Adaptability key to young people’s engagement in development amidst the COVID Pandemic

First Annual Report of the Youth Development Delegates in the Arab Region Program concludes

Adaptability key to young people’s engagement in development amidst the COVID Pandemic

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 4th of July, 2021 – The first cohort of Youth Development Delegates in the Arab Region program has demonstrated exceptional agility and adaptability, turning the challenge of COVID-19 into an opportunity for learning and encouraging wider engagement by young people in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals in their countries, according to the first annual report of the Youth Development Delegates in the Arab Region Program, issued today in Abu Dhabi.ة

Sponsored by the Arab Youth Center (AYC) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Regional Bureau for Arab States, the program which started in 2020, engaged 11 youth delegates in 10 Arab countries in a yearlong leadership development experience. Throughout the year, the delegates learned how development assistance activities are conducted on the ground and worked closely with local development agencies and organizations

“The program gave me an in-depth understanding of how youth can unleash their potential to become a driving force for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” said Ahmed Buasallay, Youth Development Delegate from Bahrain.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNDP offices where the youth development delegates worked, adapted to flexible and remote work modalities. The challenge was turned into an opportunity through the adaptability and creativity that the delegates showed throughout the year. The first annual report of the program summarizes their achievements across target areas: getting acquainted with UNDP’s work in youth development field, enhancing their personal and leadership skills as well as capacities to tackle development challenges in their countries, connecting with UNDP decision making, and compiling portfolios of youth achievements and innovation at country level.

Collaborating with UNDP’s Youth Leadership Programme (YLP), the report records that through their activities under the program, the youth delegates engaged over 9,000 young people in online and offline training sessions, webinars and awareness raising activities. Online social media outreach, including regional social media campaigns, have garnered more than 500,000 views across the Arab region. Delegates also worked in cooperation with more than 50 companies, institutions, and organizations in the youth development sector.

The first cohort of delegates assisted UNDP in managing initiatives focusing on youth, peace, and economic and social development in their respective countries. Through their work, the 11 delegates gained practical experience and insight into UNDP’s modes of operation to support national and regional efforts to eradicate poverty, improve living standards, and promote resilience and sustainable development.

“I had the opportunity to work with creative, passionate and innovative youth delegates from across the region,” commented Aya Albitar, Youth Development Delegate from Syria. “This has had a major impact on my professional and personal skills. It also allowed me to expand my network of contacts.”

In addition to their involvement in national events in their countries, the delegates participated in regional events that brought together countries represented in the program. These included celebrating International Youth Day, which made more than 140,000 impressions through social media platforms; live events; supporting organizing the YLP-6 Regional Forum; and implementing the Hope campaign that raised awareness about the importance of mental health and positive thinking for young people through social media.

The report outlines the 2021 plans of the Youth Development Delegates program, which include supporting a new approach to youth leadership development under YLP-7, organizing virtual events, webinars and panel discussions to encourage greater youth engagement in development across the region, and stepping up local and regional cooperation with partners and decision makers in the development sphere.

With our combined and continuous efforts, it will not be long before we see these SDGs come to fruition."

In the area of ecological footprint reduction, as well as in addressing the scarcity of resources and the population boom, Wilo has established several programs that include advancing circular economy and continuously reducing its use of primary raw materials by growing its infrastructure for recycling.

Wilo currently focuses on climate action agenda that optimizes the consumption of energy for its pumps through its highly efficient pump technology that leads to significant reduction of carbon emissions. ACCESS THE ARIZONA ADVANTAGE WITH THE NEW CANON ARIZONA 135 GT UV FLATBED PRINTER

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 4 July 2021:  Canon announces the launch of the new Arizona 135 GT flatbed printer, offering sign makers, print service providers and offset and screen printers, among others, a smart technology investment to fulfil new business opportunities. Whether you are starting out in the rigid applications, large format graphics industry or are looking to further diversify into new applications, the Arizona 135 GT delivers the proven benefits of the award-winning Arizona series – high image quality, impressive productivity and reliability, application versatility and excellent total cost of ownership – at a smart investment level. Manufactured in Poing, Germany, with the same industrial-build quality and heritage as all other Arizona models, the Arizona 135 GT further demonstrates its value by being able to create impressive applications across an extensive range of not only rigid media but, with its field upgradable Roll Media Option, of flexible media too.

Designed for outstanding productivity and application versatility, the easy-to-use Arizona 135 GT produces exceptional image quality. This is thanks to its VariaDot greyscale printing technology, which uses advanced drop size selection techniques to deliver photo-realistic images. With the ability to handle substrates of up to 125 x 250 cm in size and up to 50.8 mm thick and to print at speeds of up to 34.2 m²/hour, the Arizona 135 GT is a smart investment from just 2,000 m² per year.

The productivity of the Arizona 135 GT is enhanced by its easy-to-use functionality, including nesting, batching of complex jobs, step and repeat, mirroring and re-assignment of print modes. Accurate print registration avoids errors and the ability to make last-minute adjustments at the printer saves valuable time. And with uptime being crucial to any print operation, the Arizona 135 GT incorporates a number of service features to maximise availability: Automated Maintenance System provides hands-free printhead maintenance and selectively restores nozzle function in seconds, while On Remote Service allows the user to authorise remote assistance by experienced service technicians, ensuring the highest possible uptime.

Access high-margin applications on huge media range

Thanks to Arizona flatbed technology and its UV-LED curing, a vast range of durable applications are achievable on rigid or flexible media with standard or porous surfaces, including glass, aluminium and other metals, canvas, wood, MDF, cardstock, ceramic tiles and plastics. The optional Arizona Static Suppression Upgrade Kit also enables the Arizona 135 GT to print on hard plastic materials, such as acrylic, polycarbonate and styrene, while the Arizona Classic high-pressure vacuum system provides extremely reliable media hold-down during printing, even for warped rigid media. Even more opportunities are accessible with the flatbed printer’s field-upgradeable Roll Media Option. This allows users to produce flexible media applications up to 220 cm wide, including thin and heat-sensitive media, and to run roll-to-roll jobs unattended overnight.

Access new levels of creativity with Arizona Xpert prepress software

The Arizona 135 GT comes with Arizona Xpert prepress software, enabling the design and production of high-value applications with ease. Including ready-made recipes for easy-to-create applications, the software allows users to exchange recipes directly with customers, so that designers can preview the end product with a 3D view in the Arizona Xpert Extensions, minimising design errors. The Arizona approach to first-time-right printing leads to less waste and fewer costly mistakes which, in turn, leads to better overall margins and faster turnaround times. Arizona Xpert also offers further high-margin opportunities for textured surface prints – the ability to print applications with multiple ink layers.

Access a sustainable flatbed printing solution

The Arizona 135 GT’s VariaDot technology uses variable drop sizes from 6 to 30 picolitres. Not only does this produce pin-sharp images but it also means that the Arizona printing process consumes as much as 50% less ink than regular flatbed printers, making the Arizona 135 GT environmentally and economically attractive. The device’s environmental credentials also include the use of UL GREENGUARD Gold certified inks for any indoor applications, such as in schools, hospitals and retail stores – and the low emissions make for a healthier printing environment too. Additionally, the Arizona 135 GT features low-energy consumption as a result of its Instant-On functionality and minimal warm-up time thanks to its LED lamps. Other energy saving features include its standard voltage power supply, energy-efficient curing process and power-efficient vacuum pumps. Finally, the new Arizona will, in time, be included in the Arizona Remanufacturing Programme, giving a second life to what is already a very sustainable flatbed printer.

Michele Tuscano, Head of Global Partner Channel & Vice President EMEA - Large Format Graphics at Canon Production Printing, comments, “As a family of flatbed printers, the Arizona has become renowned for its image quality, productivity, reliability and application versatility, achieving multiple awards and resulting in over 7,500 installations worldwide. In bringing the Arizona 135 GT to market, predominantly through our Partner channel, we’re looking to offer sign makers, print service providers and offset and screen printers, among others, either starting out in the large format graphics industry or those that want to diversify into new applications the ideal flatbed platform for printing multiple applications on both rigid and flexible media. As the latest member of the fifth generation of Arizona printers, the Arizona 135 GT offers users the same core technology and benefits of its mid-volume siblings at an attractive investment level and we’re confident that it will again prove to be as popular as its predecessors with customers.”

Ayman Ali, Senior Marketing Manager at Canon Middle East, said: “The new Arizona 135 GT is environmentally friendly and cost-effective, making it a smart investment choice to print services provider, businesses, and end-users.  It provides extremely reliable media hold-down during printing, even for warped rigid media and is designed to produce multiple prints on both rigid and flexible media. The Arizona 135 GT not only promises the same industrial build quality as all other Arizona models, it also proves to be more sustainable and is suitable for different markets around the world including the Middle East.”

The Arizona 135 GT is available for demonstration via accredited Partners as well as Canon’s sales teams.
