July 4, 2021 -Wilo Middle East (WME), a UAE-based provider of pumps and pump systems for the building services, water management, and industrial sectors, has reaffirmed its commitment in the areas of sustainability and climate protection to help advance sustainability in the UAE and the Middle East in 2021.

Based on the UAE Vision 2021 that entitles improving the quality of air, preserving water resources, increasing the contribution of clean energy, and implementing green growth plans, Wilo has come up with a sustainability strategy that consists of the four strategic pillars: water; energy and emission; material and waste; and employees and company.

Oliver Hermes, President and CEO of the Wilo Group, said: “As an international company with an unwavering commitment to sustainability, Wilo has embarked on numerous initiatives to promote environment-friendly solutions. Some of our programs are done in cooperation with our partners according to global frameworks, keeping in mind the importance of collaborations in addressing major challenges such as climate change and environmental degradation. Our focus is to facilitate better access to clean water for 100 million people worldwide, reduce CO2 emissions by 50 million tons, and reduce the consumption of raw materials by 250 tons by 2025.”

The number of innovative water solutions have been steadily growing in the UAE, with an annual growth rate of 7.5 per cent per year. The smart water system portfolio is annually expanding at a rate of 35 per cent, while the expansion of smart product portfolio is at 15 per cent per year. Besides, the adoption of reusable packaging is witnessing a 100 per cent growth rate, while recycling rate at Wilo sites is growing by 90 per cent,” said Jens Dallendoerfer, Senior Vice President - Sales Region Emerging Markets.

Using its influence, resources and knowledge, Wilo Group is committed to principles of the UN Global Compact to uphold corporate sustainability and establish a culture of integrity within its organization. Similarly, it has committed to seven of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations member states to help establish an inclusive and sustainable world economy that leads to social change.

Out of the 17 SDGs, the Group promotes SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals).

Its initiatives include the provision of clean water to remote communities, investments in training and skills development, and usage of highly efficient digital technologies and innovations. Wilo is also renowned for its capabilities to promote sustainable industrialization, as well as establish robust infrastructures and sustainable cities and communities.

Yasser Nagi, Managing Director, Wilo Middle East, said “Sustainability is at the core of Wilo's mission, as we believe it is our duty to leave a lasting legacy to future generations in this regard.  We support the UN's 17 SDGs in our solutions and operations, and we aim to continue in setting an example for other companies and organizations to emulate. With our combined and continuous efforts, it will not be long before we see these SDGs come to fruition."

In the area of ecological footprint reduction, as well as in addressing the scarcity of resources and the population boom, Wilo has established several programs that include advancing circular economy and continuously reducing its use of primary raw materials by growing its infrastructure for recycling.

Wilo currently focuses on climate action agenda that optimizes the consumption of energy for its pumps through its highly efficient pump technology that leads to significant reduction of carbon emissions. On the partnership arena, Wilo remains consistent in its efforts to build new alliances as an essential part of its success.
