Pioneering new research in Qatar will advance
cutting-edge network solutions, from smart stadiums to disaster response systems

Ooredoo, Qatar University (QU)
and Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) today signed a major new research
agreement to support innovation and development in Qatar and across the wider
region.
To ensure the most positive
results for future technology in Qatar, the ground-breaking agreement will
support research in key areas, including fast deployable wireless communication
systems for disaster and emergency response; innovations of green radio
access technologies in wireless communications; tele-health and applications; wireless communications
for next-generation power grids; and stadium communications.
In particular, the studies will
examine areas that will have a positive social, economic and educational impact
on the wider community.
As well as providing support for
students and researchers seeking to enhance their understanding of these
developing fields, data generated by the initiative will make an important contribution
to wider efforts to make Qatar one of the best-connected countries in the world
and a hub for “smart solutions”.

Qatar is aiming to become a hub for smart solutions and one of the
best-connected countries in the world.”

network technology, as Qatar continues to build its position as a worldwide
communication hub.”
Ooredoo’s sponsorship will
provide the opportunity for QU and Texas A&M at Qatar students to be exposed
to the telecom industry and be engaged in real-world experiences during their
academic studies in preparation for their future careers.
The sponsorship was also
designed to foster research and development in Qatar and contribute towards the
country’s development and technological advancement. By inviting students to participate,
Ooredoo hopes to produce the country’s future leaders who are equipped with hands-on
knowledge of next-generation technology such as 5G and even faster networks.
The agreement is the latest in a
long history of collaborations between the three institutions, the most notable
being the 2005 and 2008 agreement for collaborative research into third-generation
(3G) and fourth-generation (4G) networks, and HSPA-LTE (High Speed Packet
Access-Long Term Evolution) for next-generation networks, technologies and
services, and research and development, which was the first of its kind in the
Middle East.
This sponsorship reflects
Ooredoo’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, which places
education and entrepreneurship as part of the company’s main pillars of focus.

كل من Ooredoo وجامعة قطر وجامعة تكساس إي أند إم في قطر اليوم اتفاقية رئيسية للتعاون في مجالات الأبحاث
الجديدة. وتهدف هذه الاتفاقية إلى دعم الابتكار والتنمية في قطر والمنطقة
بأكملها.
وستدعم
الاتفاقية الأبحاث في عدة مجالات رئيسية، بما في ذلك أنظمة الاتصالات اللاسلكية
سريعة الانتشار للاستجابة للكوارث وحالات الطوارئ، وابتكارات التقنيات الصديقة
للبيئة في الاتصالات اللاسلكية عبر موجات الراديو، والرعاية الصحية عن بعد
والتطبيقات؛ والاتصالات اللاسلكية لشبكات الكهرباء من الجيل القادم، وأنظمة
الاتصالات في الملاعب. ويهدف كل ذلك إلى ضمان الحصول على أفضل النتائج فيما يتعلق
بتقنيات المستقبل في قطر.
وستبحث
الدراسات على وجه الخصوص المجالات التي سيكون لها أثر اجتماعي واقتصادي وتعليمي هام
على المجتمع ككل.
وإلى
جانب توفير الدعم للطلاب والباحثين الذين يسعون إلى تعزيز فهمهم في هذه المجالات
المتطورة باستمرار، ستسهم البيانات الناتجة من
هذه المبادرة في خدمة الجهود الرامية إلى الارتقاء بدولة قطر كواحدة من أفضل
البلدان في العالم في مجال الاتصالات، وأن تصبح
مركزاً محورياً "للحلول الذكية".

اتفاقية الرعاية، يقول وليد السيد، الرئيس التنفيذي لـOoredoo قطر:

قال الدكتور حسن الدرهم، رئيس جامعة قطر: "إن شراكتنا مع هذه المؤسسات

جامعة قطر ملتزمون بدعم الابتكار لدى طلابنا وتشجيع المواهب في المجالات الهندسية
المختلفة. وتعكس اتفاقية التعاون هذه التزام جامعة قطر بتوفير البيئة الأمثل
لطلابها لتكون مصدر إلهام يسهم في ابتكارهم للحلول الذكية والمتطورة التي تعود
بالنفع على المجتمع القطري وعلى المنطقة بأكملها. كما أنها تؤكد على سعي الجامعة
المتواصل للتشجيع على فهم أفضل لتقنيات الشبكات في وقت تسعى فيه قطر لتكون مركزاً
رئيسياً للحلول الذكية وواحدة من أفضل دول العالم في خدمات الاتصالات".
ومن
جهتها قالت الدكتورة آن كينيمير، العميدة بالإنابة ورئيسة العمليات لجامعة تكساس
إي أند إم في قطر: "نحن ملتزمون بتمكين الطلاب لتحقيق الريادة في الجيل
القادم من الاكتشافات الهندسية. وستوفر لنا مثل هذه الاتفاقيات نظاماً يشكل مصدر
إلهام لطلابنا. ففي عالمنا اليوم، يوفر الجيل القادم من الشبكات اللاسلكية أساساً
لمجموعة جديدة من الحلول الذكية التي تسهم في إحداث تحولات في المنازل والمجتمعات
وحتى الدول. كما أن لهذه الشراكة البحثية إسهام كبير في زيادة الفهم
العالمي لتقنية الشبكات، حيث تواصل قطر الارتقاء بدورها كمركز اتصالات رئيسي لجميع
أنحاء العالم ".
وستسهم
اتفاقية الرعاية من Ooredoo في توفير الخبرة العملية لطلاب جامعتي قطر
وتكساس إي أند إم في قطر في قطاع الاتصالات، وإشراكهم في تجارب وخبرات حقيقية خلال
مسيرتهم الأكاديمية، وذلك من أجل إعدادهم لتحقيق النجاح في مسيرتهم المهنية في
المستقبل.
وقد
تم إعداد اتفاقية الرعاية بهدف تشجيع البحث العلمي والتطوير في دولة قطر والمساهمة
في تنمية البلاد وتحقيق التقدم التكنولوجي فيها. ومن خلال دعوة الطلاب للمشاركة، تأمل Ooredoo في المساهمة بإنتاج قادة المستقبل في البلاد، وتجهيزهم بأدوات المعرفة والتدريب
على تقنيات الجيل القادم مثل شبكات الجيل الخامس (5G)
وما
سيليها من شبكات أكثر سرعة.
وتعد
هذه الاتفاقية الأحدث ضمن مسيرة حافلة بالتعاون بين المؤسسات الثلاث، وأبرزها
اتفاقيات 2005 و2008 لإجراء بحوث تعاونية حول شبكات الجيل الثالث (3G)
والجيل الرابع 4G))، وتقنيات HSPA-LTE لشبكات الجيل القادم، والتقنيات والخدمات،
والبحث والتطوير، وهي الأولى من نوعها على مستوى الشرق الأوسط.
وتعكس
هذه الرعاية استراتيجية المسؤولية الاجتماعية لدى Ooredoo
وتركيزها على مجالات التعليم وريادة الأعمال باعتبارها من المحاور الرئيسية
للارتقاء بدولة قطر.
