Cloud and Microsoft ecosystem will create more than 100,000 jobs in Egypt over next five years: IDC

International Data Corporation draws on a decade of research to paint an encouraging picture of future employment in Egypt


IT spending in Egypt will reach $1.17 billion and direct IT employment will have created 417,135 jobs by 2022.


Microsoft ecosystem sells, services and deploys products which has supported over 202,250 workers in 2017- creating downstream revenues accounted $9.37 for every dollar that Microsoft generates.




05 March 2019; Cairo, Egypt – Microsoft’s technology ecosystem and the growing popularity of cloud services will create nearly 100,000 jobs in Egypt by the end of 2022, according to new research by the International Data Corporation (IDC). The study was conducted in other key markets of the Middle East such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Turkey.

IDC’s white paper analyses the impact of ICT, cloud services, and the Microsoft ecosystem on the Egypt economy between 2017 and 2022, covering a decade of regional findings. The research shows that spending on public cloud services in Egypt is expected to rise nearly 3.5 times, growing from approximately $48.5 million in 2017 to $162.6 million in 2022. This will create nearly 69,570 new jobs and the Microsoft technology ecosystem will add 30,540 jobs for a total of 100,110 in net job creation.

The IDC study highlights that government-led plans such as the Egyptian Government Cloud (EG-Cloud) strategy, along with private sector investments, will generate $2.36 billion in net new revenues from the cloud over the next half decade. IDC estimates IT spending in Egypt will reach $1.17 billion in 2022 and direct IT employment will have created 417,135 jobs. The study also reveals that the Microsoft ecosystem – the companies that sell, service, deploy, or otherwise work with Microsoft products – supported more than 202,250 workers in 2017, while creating downstream revenues, accounting for $9.37 for every $1 that Microsoft generates.

“As cloud continues to gain momentum in the region, countries will be able to accelerate their digital transformation and economic diversification agendas.” said Manish Ranjan, Program Manager - Software & Cloud, IDC Middle East, Turkey & Africa “Egypt has outlined several policies, programs and initiatives to accelerate its wider development plans. Cloud will further enable these innovative projects that revolve around artificial intelligence (AI), enterprise mobility, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain to create demand for new skill types and expertise in the market. We will begin to see a shift in the job types that will be needed by organizations, with new roles coming in to play. These will range from AI and blockchain architects and data scientists to AI systems trainers.”

According to World Bank the high-tech sector has a job multiplier effect. For every 1 job in the sector, approximately 4.3 jobs are created across all income groups and occupations. Tawar w 3’ayar’, an initiative by Microsoft Egypt, is making significant contribution to bridge the skill gap in the labour market by empowering Egyptian youth for fourth industrial revolution jobs through digital competencies and building digital science capabilities. To date, Tawar w 3’ayar’ has provided employment opportunities to over 1.4 million youth by developing 500 centres in 27 different governorates. The team is diligently working with authorities to create relevant job opportunities. The program has successfully promoted 117,621 job opportunities whilst matching more than 10,000 young individuals to over 1500 employers.

The Microsoft Cloud Society - our mass readiness program is poised for IT Professionals, Developers and Data Professionals to learn Cloud technologies, best practices and advance their careers. 5 مارس2019 / مصر - القاهرة: ستتمكن شركة مايكروسوفت عملاق صناعة البرمجيات في ظل تزايد شعبية الخدمات السحابية بالآونة الأخيرة من خلق مايزيد عن 100 ألف وظيفة جديدة في مصر بحلول نهاية عام 2022 من خلال منظومة مايكروسوفت المتكاملة وتقنية الحوسبة السحابية وتأتي هذه الأرقام وفقاً لدارسة جديدة أجرتها شركة الابحاث الدولية (IDC)، بالإضافة إلى أسواق أخرى اشتملت عليها الدراسة في الشرق الأوسط مثل المملكة العربية السعودية والإمارات والبحرين وتركيا.

ولفت بحث IDC أيضاً في دراسته أن منظومة مايكروسوفت المتكاملة ستساهم في دفع عجلة الحكومة المصرية من خلال المعاهدات والمبادرات التعاونية، وبالتالي تحقيق عوائد كبيرة على اقتصاد مصر بين عامي 2017 و 2022، مع العلم أن المؤسسات في جميع أنحاء الجمهورية ستشارك في زيادة الإنفاق على تكنولوجيا المعلومات والتوظيف، في حين كشف ذات التقرير أن الإنفاق على الخدمات السحابية العامة من المتوقع أن يزيد في مصر بمقدار 3.5 أضعاف على مدار الخمس سنوات المقبلة، حيث سيشهد نمواً من 48.5 مليون دولار في عام 2017 ليصل إلى 162.6 مليون دولار في عام 2022، وفي سياق تفصيلي أكثر أظهر البحث أن اعتماد الخدمات السحابية سيؤدي إلى خلق ما يقرب من 69,570 صافي وظائف جديدة، بينما ستخلق منظومة مايكروسوفت المتكاملة 30,540 صافي وظائف جديدة، بما يعادل مجموعه 100,110 صافي وظائف جديدة في مصر.

بهذا الصدد أكد خالد عبد القادر، مدير عام مايكروسوفت مصر، أن التقدم التكنولوجي ليس مفهموماً أو مصطلحًا جديدًا على مصر، كما أن رؤية مصر2030 رسمت فعلياً خارطة طريق لتشكيل مستقبل مستدام على جميع الأصعدة الاقتصادية والتطويرية وغيرها، وأوضح في حديثه أيضاً أن خطط التنمية في مصر تدعم الاستثمارات الجارية حول التقنيات السحابية ومبادرات التحول الرقمي، وتفخر مايكروسوفت بشراكتها مع الحكومة المصرية ومساهمتها في خلق العديد من الوظائف والفرص داخل نطاق مصر وخارجها، ونوه أيضاً بإن ارتفاع نمو الاقتصاد والإيرادات ماهي إلا نتيجة طبيعية يعود فضلها إلى تضافر جهود منظومة مايكروسوفت المتكاملة في مساعدة كل فرد ومنظمة حول العالم من تحقيق أقصى طاقاتهم". 

وتطرقت الدراسة في بحثها أيضاً إلى تسليط الضوء على الاستراتيجية السحابية للحكومة المصرية وكذلك استثمارات القطاع الخاص، حيث أفادت بأنهما معاً سيولدان 2.36 مليار دولار صافي إيرادات جديدة من المشروعات السحابية خلال نصف العقد القادم ، فضلاً عن ذلك سيصل الإنفاق على تكنولوجيا المعلومات في مصر إلى 1.17 مليار دولار في عام 2022، فيما سيخلق التوظيف المباشر لتكنولوجيا المعلومات 417.135 فرصة عمل.

وتتضمن منظومة مايكروسوفت المتكاملة مجموعة من الشركات التي تتعامل بشكل رسمي مع منتجات مايكروسوفت، وتجني هذه المنظومة وفقاً لتقرير شركة IDC عائدات بقيمة 9.37 دولار مقابل كل دولار واحد تكسبه مايكروسوفت من عائدات الخدمات التي تتيحها.

ومن جانبه أوضح مانيش رانجان، مدير البرامج والحوسبة السحابية لدى IDC الشرق الأوسط وتركيا وأفريقيا، أن الدول ستتمكن في ظل استمرار توسع نطاق استخدام التقنية السحابية في المنطقة من تسريع خطى التحول الرقمي والتنوع الاقتصادي، وستساهم أيضاً التقنية السحابية في تمكين المشاريع المبتكرة التي تتمحور حول تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي وإنترنت الأشياء والبلوك تشين، كما أن هذا التوسع سيخلق ارتفاعاً في الطلب على أنواع مخصصة من المهارات والخبرات الجديدة في السوق، وأورد معقباً أن العالم سيشهد ظهور أدوار جديدة في العديد من الوظائف التي ستحتاجها المؤسسات، وستتراوح هذه التغيرات والمتطلبات بين مهندسي تقنية الذكاء الاصطناعي والبلوك تشين ومختصي البيانات وصولاً إلى خبراء نظم الذكاء الاصطناعي. 

والجدير بالذكر أن خلق وظائف تكنولوجيا المعلومات يساهم في إيجاد فرص عمل وتوليد وظائف غير متعلقة بتكنولوجيا المعلومات، وهذا ما أكده البنك الدولي نفسه من خلال التقرير الذي قدر فيه بأن كل وظيفة تقنية ستولد 4.3 وظيفة أخرى عبر مختلف الصناعات، في حين وجد تقرير "مستقبل الوظائف" الصادر عن المنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي أن طفلين من بين كل ثلاثة أطفال سينتهي بهم المطاف إلى العمل في وظائف غير موجودة بعد. والأهم من ذلك أنه تم تحديد حجم الفجوة أيضًا في القوى العاملة اليوم حيث قال التقرير أن 54٪ من المؤسسات ستحتاج إلى إعادة تقييم و تدريب موظفيها بناء على مهارات وتقنيات جديدة. وقد ساهمت مبادرة "طور وغير" التي اطلقتها مايكروسوفت مصر في تنمية مهارات الشباب، وتمكين الشركات الصغيرة والمتوسطة، وتطوير التعليم، ودعم ريادة الأعمال والتوظيف، حيث ساعدت عبر أنشطتها في اعداد الشباب وتمكينهم من اكتساب المهارات اللازمة لأخذ مكانهم الريادي في ظل وظائف الثورة الصناعية الرابعة، اضافة إلى ذلك وفرت هذه المبادرة أكثر من 1.4 مليون فرصة عمل من خلال تطوير 500 مركز عبر 27 محافظة مختلفة. 

وأضاف خالد قائلاً "تعتبر مسألة سد فجوة المهارات من أهم الأمور التي تأخذها مايكروسوفت بعين الاعتبار، وأكد أيضاً أن مايكروسوفت تمتلك إلتزاماً عميقاً نحو خلق الوعي اللازم تجاه هذا الأمر الذي بات عنصراً أساسياً في صلب المتطلبات الوظيفية الجديدة، مشيراً إلى جهود مايكروسوفت من خلال المبادرات والمنصات التي تقدمها لتعزيز مهارات الشباب، ولفت قائلاً أن مجتمع مايكروسوفت لخبراء التقنية السحابية تعتبر احدى أهم المنصات التي تكثف جهودها لتمكين الشباب وصقل مهاراتهم التقنية، كما نوه بأن مراكز بيانات مايكروسوفت السحابية في الشرق الأوسط هذا العام ستلعب دوراً في تحقيق هذه الأهداف وخلق وظائف جديدة في المنطقة".

AUC CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL INTERNATIONAL DAY-SPRING FESTIVAL

March 5, 2019, Cairo – The American University in Cairo (AUC) celebrated yesterday

the AUC Centennial International Day - Spring Festival at the New Cairo Campus. Students from 32 countries including Japan, USA, Canada, Palestine, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Madagascar, Kenya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon paraded their countries’ flags and showcased the cultures of their countries in different booths. Community members enjoyed live music throughout the night filled with singing, dancing, eating and playing games.

“We are celebrating the International Day this year in a very special way as AUC celebrates 100 years in Egypt,” said AUC President, Francis Ricciardone, “It made me feel very proud and happy to hear all these different national anthems and see the students in their national costumes. It was really spectacular.”




Celebrating International Day, Erick Edward Dokalahi, who studies food chemistry as part of the African Graduate Fellowship program at AUC, said: “I am the first person from Madagascar to study at AUC and I am always happy to tell people how we live, our culture and the different ethnicities in my country.” Dokolahi expressed how he feels welcomed at AUC, saying: “Whenever there is an event like the International Day, Egyptian students and others from different nationalities are always eager to know details about my country, that is why I am always enthusiastic about International Day.”

The Office of Student Life and The Cairo International Model of United Nations (CIMUN) helped in organizing the event, which featured also booths selling merchandise by different NGOs as part of AUC’s Neighborhood Initiative.

AUC TO COMMEMORATE EGYPT’S 1919 REVOLUTION

WHAT

A tribute, hosted by The American University in Cairo (AUC), as part of its yearlong centennial celebration, in commemoration of Egypt’s 1919 Revolution and the inspiring art of the legendary Sayed Darwish.

The day-long celebration will include a press conference, lectures by prominent figures, an art exhibition and a musical concert.

The press conference will highlight AUC's role in commemorating the 1919 Revolution. This will include discussing AUC's archival collection project of the original lyrics of Sayed Darwish’s songs of the Revolution, the students' exhibition, and the role of the Rare Books and Special Collection Library in preserving, archiving and digitizing the heritage of the Revolution such as photos, maps and books.

Speakers are Alaa Eldin Edris, associate provost for research, innovation and creativity at AUC; Wael El Mahalawi, associate professor, Department of the Arts; Naglaa Samir, associate professor of practice, Department of the Arts and Amr Kamel, assistant director, Rare Books and Special Collection Library. A tour of the student exhibition will take place after the conference *The press conference will be held in Arabic.

This will be followed by discussions by distinguished speakers who will discuss the events that led up to the eruption of the 1919 revolution; the impactful role of women; and the aftermath and the socio-economic and public forces landscape at the time.

Speakers are Mostafa El Feki, director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Mohamed Abou El-Ghar, professor of gynecology at Cairo University and political activist; and Sania Sharawi, novelist and the granddaughter of feminist and women’s rights activist Huda Sharawi.

The discussions will be followed by a concert showcasing a compilation of the most influential songs written for the revolution in a historic archive of lyrics, musical notations and multi-track recordings. The concert features Eskenderella with lead singer Hazem Shaheen and the AUC Ferqa with lead singer Nesma Mahgoub ’13. The concert is directed by AUC Professor Wael El Mahallawy.

SALAMAIR MAKES INAUGURAL DIRECT FLIGHT TO ALEXANDRIA

Muscat/Alexandria, 5 March 2019 – SalamAir’s first non-stop flight from Muscat to Alexandria, Egypt landed in Borg El Arab International Airport on 20:15pm local time March 2nd 2019, marking the airline’s first destination in Egypt. SalamAir OV527, operated by an Airbus A320neo, departed Muscat International Airport following a special celebration ceremony commemorating the debut of this route. مسقط/الإسكندرية، 5 مارس 2019 – وصلت أولى رحلات طيران السلام المباشرة من مسقط إلى الإسكندرية في جمهورية مصر العربية، بعد هبوطها في مطار برج العرب الدولي في تمام الساعة 20:15 مساءً بالتوقيت المحلي يوم 2 مارس 2019، لتصبح الإسكندرية الوجهة الأولى لطيران السلام في مصر. وكانت رحلة طيران السلام OV527 من طراز إيرباص A320neo أقلعت من مطار مسقط الدولي عقب احتفال خاص أقيم بمناسبة الرحلة الإفتتاحية لهذه الوجهة الجديدة، حضره سعادة محمد أحمد فهمي غنيم، سفير جمهورية مصر العربية في سلطنة عُمان والكابتن محمد أحمد، الرئيس التنفيذي لطيران السلام وعدد من كبار الشخصيات. كما كان في استقبال الرحلة في الإسكندرية عدد من المسئولين وكبار الشخصيات المصريين.

وفي إطار احتفال طيران السلام بأولى رحلاته المباشرة بين المدينتين، أقامت الشركة أيضًا احتفالاً خاصًا في الإسكندرية حضره الشركاء من وكالات السفر والسياحة، بالإضافة إلى مجموعة كبيرة من ممثلي قطاع الطيران. وحظيت الرحلة الافتتاحية بإشادة المسئولين العُمانيين والمصريين حيث اعتبروها خطوة مهمة نحو تسهيل نقل الأفراد والبضائع بين البلدين مانحة ضيوف طيران السلام لأغراض العمل أو الترفيه المزيد من خيارات السفر اتي تناسب متطلباتهم.

وصرح سعادة السفير المصري بأن ربط الإسكندرية ومسقط جويًا من شأنه دعم وتقوية العلاقات التاريخية العريقة بين عُمان ومصر، التي تقوم على التعاون المثمر بين البلدين عبر الأجيال على جميع الأصعدة السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية والتجارية. مضيفًا أن: "هذه الخطوة ستوفر الراحة للمصريين المقيمين في عُمان خلال سفرهم من وإلى مصر، كما يسعدنا أن نرحب بأشقاءنا العُمانيين للاستمتاع بسحر مصر وكرم ضيافتها المعروف".
