Exploiting Data Breaches

High profile data breaches are regularly in the news and, seemingly, businesses and are losing the battle to protect their intellectual property (IP), corporate, and customer data from the threats posed by professional cybercriminals.

It is no surprise that financial gain is the single biggest motivator for cyberattacks. The 2016 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report highlighted that financial gain and espionage accounted for more than 89% of all data breaches they studies. Financial gain was by far the biggest single reason for attacks, beating espionage and all other objectives into a distant second place.

This is big business for cybercriminals.

To deal with the threats posed by these breaches, organizations, have to get on the front foot when protecting their intellectual property.  Firstly, by identifying the location and protections around critical IP, secondly keeping a watchful eye on the types of attackers and the methods they might use to obtain it.   

But despite the excitement, which is often rightly directed at new viruses or malware or attack techniques, it is exploit kits that remain one of cybercriminals’ most reliable and trusted delivery mechanisms to embed malware and conduct malicious activity. And, even as an exploit kit gets shut down, others pick up the slack and continue to deliver their payloads.

Our report, “In the Business of Exploitation”, found that the vulnerabilities exploited by the top 22 exploit kits showed that Adobe Flash Player was likely to be the most targeted software, with 27 of the 76 identified vulnerabilities exploited taking advantage of this software.

Understanding the most commonly exploited software, and the most frequently targeted vulnerabilities, can aid in mitigating the threat posed by exploit kits and prioritizing their patching.

To protect their IP it is critical that a company evaluates their security using the perspective of an attacker, which helps prioritize the work to address potential vulnerabilities. This could involve looking at where their organization is exposed on social media sites, points of compromise, and looking for evidence of previous attacks across the visible, dark, and deep web. The military use the term situational awareness, and we believe that it is useful for companies to use this approach when considering their cybersecurity controls.

Companies can therefore remain quick to respond to incidents and limit the consequences of any potential breach. That way they can remove information from public view by issuing takedown requests as soon as an organization finds its information being shared advertised or sold on the web. Similarly, by knowing what information is compromised, passwords can be changed, customers notified and points of weakness fixed.

By being proactive, organizations can tailor their defenses and make better, more informed business decisions. In a world of complexity and uncertainty, this kind of illuminating context is key to preventing vital IP falling in to the wrong hands.

Cairo, Egypt - June 6, 2017: The Internet of Things (IoT) continues to gain a strong footing in the Middle East across different sectors ranging from manufacturing and transportation to energy. The vulnerability of IoT to external cyber threats remains high – in fact even higher than traditional IT - a recent Booz Allen Hamilton report has highlighted.

The Booz Allen Hamilton  “IoT Field Guide” also states that industries are moving to IoT at a pace that is far greater than the ability to secure it. Traditional IT systems are generally self-contained and easy to protect. IoT, on the other hand, connects systems with tens of thousands of sensors and other devices around the world, resulting in a much higher variety and volume of potential threat.

According to Kaspersky Labs, 23.5%, of Internet users in Egypt have been affected by online threats in the first quarter of 2017 – which means Egypt has amongst the highest numbers of web threat incidents in the entire Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) region.  The global ‘WannaCry’ ransomware attack has put further pressure on public and private sector entities to upgrade their security measures.  The three largest Egyptian telecoms providers Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Misr and Orange Egypt are investing heavily in network expansion and new IoT technologies. It is essential for them to build advanced security measures into the growth structure of their IoT frameworks in order to contend within the dynamic cyber threat landscape.

Companies can probably save money by building IoT systems with less-than-secure parts and materials. But if they get hacked, the financial cost of reputational harm – including lawsuits, or regulatory penalties - could make it much worse for them.

If organizations are to succeed with IoT – security has to be deeply embedded in their DNA. This involves a close, careful, and systematic examination of all potential weak points.

The comprehensive model ultimately empowers an organization’s leaders and stakeholders to make effective IoT security investment decisions.

The process of building the model makes sure that different teams understand their interdependent risks, technologies, and investments and it helps serve as a common platform for IoT security dialogue across the enterprise.

More importantly, the model is an inclusive process that involves stakeholders from across the organization, including human resources, security, IT, law and compliance, and vendor sourcing.

Once developed, the model becomes a living tool – one that’s regularly evaluated, updated, and discussed as part of the organization’s broader security processes.

القاهرة، مصر،  ٦ يونيو 2017 -  أشار تقرير صادر مؤخرا عن بوز ألن هاملتون الى أن إنترنت الأشياء يواصل كسب حضور قوي في منطقة الشرق الأوسط عبر مختلف القطاعات بدءا من التصنيع والنقل الى الطاقة. ولا تزال قابلية تعرّض إنترنت الأشياء للتهديدات السيبرانية الخارجية عالية، بل أعلى بكثير مما هي في وضع تكنولوجيا المعلومات التقليدية.

ويبيّن تقرير بوز ألن هاملتون الصادر تحت عنوان "الدليل الميداني لإنترنت الأشياء" أن القطاعات تتحول الى إنترنت الأشياء بوتيرة أكبر بكثير من القدرة على ضمان أمنه. نظم تكنولوجيا المعلومات التقليدية متكاملة الاستقلالية وسهلة الحماية. أما إنترنت الأشياء فيربط بين الأنظمة من خلال الآلاف من أجهزة الاستشعار وغيرها من الأجهزة حول العالم، مما يؤدي الى نسبة أكبر بكثير من التنوع والتهديدات المحتملة.

وقد أشارت مصادر مختبرات كابيرسكي إلى أن 32.5% من مستخدمي الإنترنت في مصر قد تضرروا من التهديدات الالكترونية في الربع الأول من العام 2017، مما يعني أن الأرقام في مصر هي ضمن قائمة الأرقام الأعلى في عدد حوادث التهديد على شبكة الانترنت عبر كامل منطقة الشرق الأوسط وتركيا وأفريقيا. وقد ساهمت الهجمة العالمية  ‘WannaCry’ ransomware في وضع المزيد من الضغوط على كيانات القطاعين العام والخاص لرفع مستوى إجراءاتها الامنية. وتقوم أكبر ثلاث شركات مصرية للإتصالات فودافون مصر، إتصالات مصر وأورانج مصر بالاستثمار بقوة في أعمال توسعة الشبكة والتقنيات الجديدة لإنترنت الأشياء. ولا بد لهذه الشركات من إنشاء إجراءات أمنية متقدّمة ضمن هيكلية نمو أطر عمل إنترنت الأشياء للمنافسة في بيئة التهديدات السيبرانية الديناميكية.

يمكن للشركات أن توفّر المال عن طريق إنشاء أنظمة إنترنت الأشياء بقطع ومواد أقل من آمنة. ولكن في حال تعرّضها لأية هجمة، فإن التكلفة المالية للضرر على سمعتها، بما في ذلك الدعاوى القضائية أو العقوبات القانونية، يمكن أن تجعلها أسوأ بكثير بالنسبة اليها.

 وقد أظهرت بوز ألن هاملتون أن المؤسسات التي لديها أفضل إجراءات أمنية مرتبطة بإنترنت الأشياء هي إستباقية في نهجها وتستخدم بيانات تقييم للتهديد في الوقت الحقيقي وأحدث التطورات في التحليلات لرصد هجمات مخفية تستهدف إنترنت الأشياء.

يتضمن الدليل الميداني لإنترنت الأشياء "نموذج تحديد لأولويات الموارد" الذي يمكن أن يساعد المؤسسات على التخفيف من أية مخاطر واحتوائها. ويشتمل النموذج على ثلاثة عناصر هي تقييم المخاطر التقنية، والتأثير المحتمل للهجوم على الأعمال، واستراتيجيات تخفيفها. ويؤهل النموذج الشامل قادة المؤسسات والمعنيين بها لاتخاذ قرارات فعّالة بشأن الاستثمار في أمن إنترنت الأشياء.

Ericsson expands its Support Services portfolio

To help operators cope with the demands inherent in connecting an increasingly complex world, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) is introducing a new approach to Support Services.It involves complementing Ericsson’s existing Support Serviceswith predictive analytics and deep learning, introducing more systematic control of software changes, andspeeding up network-level fault isolation and recovery. Ericsson willalso provide actionable intelligence that enables operators to achieve new levels of network stability.

As businesses of all kinds reinvent themselves to realize the full potential of data, operator networks are coming under increasing pressure to connect anything and everything. The introduction of differentuse cases such as video and audio ondemand, self-driving vehicles and factory automationwillrequire network latenciesunder 10 milliseconds,withno room for error.

Fredrik Jejdling, head of Business Area Networks at Ericsson, says: “As operators face increasing network complexity with the introduction of new use cases, they must become more proactive. Through close collaboration betweenour support engineers and ourcustomers’ operations –and by making use of automation, machine learning, and other artificial intelligence techniques –we’re putting the zero-defect network vision within our customers’reach.”

Rodrigo Orozco, Head of Network Operations atEntel Chile, says: “We are working with Ericsson to explore the power of data analytics to enhance network operations. Together, we were able to prevent approximately 85 percent of critical incidents in the network. This proactive approach significantly reduced the impact of any network issues on our end users.”

In other trials and early deployments, Ericsson has enabled operators to achieve a near-perfect success rate in handling software changes anddrastically reduced emergency recovery time from 4 hoursto just60 minutes.In one example, a European operatorwas able to reduce network incidents by 30 percent despite tripling the total number of upgrades per annum.

Paul Rizzuto, industry analyst at GlobalData (previously Current Analysis), says: “Ericsson’s holistic approach to network operations addresses increasing complexity facing operators as they face the challenges of supporting virtualized and hybrid environments. The company’s connected engineers are augmenting their deep knowledge base with real-time analytics and intelligence tools to create a strong collaboration between human and machine.”

Ericsson’s new approach to Support Servicesenables operatorsto focus on managing network transformation and implementingnew technologies such as virtualization, the Internet of Things and 5G.

The enhanced Ericsson Support Services offeringwill consist of three key areas: Predict and Prevent (available at the end of July), Analyze and Change (available now) andIsolate and Recover (available at the end of June).These new Support Services capabilities are part of Ericsson’s recently introduced Engineered Intelligence approach.

بهدف مساعدة مشغلي الإتصالات على التعامل مع المتطلبات المتزايدة فيما يتعلق بتعزيز تقنيات الاتصال في عالم يزداد تعقيداً يوماً بعد يوم، أعلنت شركة إريكسون عن إطلاقها نهجاً جديداً لخدمات الدعم التي تقدمها ويشمل تعزيز خدمات الدعم الحالية التي تطورها الشركة بتحليلات تنبؤية وحلول التعلم العميق، وإدخال وسائل تحكم أكثر منهجية على التغيرات البرمجية، والعمل على تسريع تطوير حلول لمعرفة الأخطاء والعيوب على مستوى الشبكة وإصلاحها بالسرعة المطلوبة وستوفر إريكسون أيضاً معلومات وأدوات ذات فعالية أكبر تمكن المشغلين من تحقيق مستويات جديدة من استقرار الشبكة.

وفي الوقت الذي تعمل فيه كافة الشركات عبر قطاعات الأعمال على إعادة ابتكار أنفسها لتحقيق الاستفادة القصوى من إمكانات البيانات، تصبح شبكات المشغلين أكثر عرضة لضغوط متزايدة فيما يتعلق بربط أي شيء وكل شيء وسيتطلب تقديم حالات الاستخدام المختلفة مثل الفيديو والصوت حسب الطلب، والمركبات ذاتية القيادة و معدلات سكون في الشبكة أقل من 10 ميلي في الثانية، مع عدم وجود أي مجال للخطأ.

وتعليقاً على التوسع الجديد، قال فريدريك جيجلينغ، رئيس وحدة أعمال الشبكات في إريكسون: "نظرا لأن المشغلين يواجهون تعقيدا متزايدا فيما يتعلق بمتطلبات الشبكات نتيجة طرح حالات استخدام جديدة، فإن ذلك يحتم عليهم أن يصبحوا أكثر نشاطاً ومن خلال التعاون الوثيق بين مهندسي الدعم وعمليات العملاء لدينا، ومن خلال الاستفادة من وسائل التعلم الآلي وغيرها من تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي، نحن في إريكسون نهدف إلى وضع رؤية الشبكة الخالية من العيوب في متناول عملائنا".

ومن جانبه قال، رودريغو أوروزكو، رئيس عمليات الشبكة في شركة إنتيل في تشيلي: "نعمل مع اريكسون لاستكشاف قوة تحليلات البيانات لتعزيز عمليات الشبكة. وقد تمكنا معا من منع حوالي 85% من الحوادث الحرجة في شبكتنا وقد أسهم هذا النهج الاستباقي بخفض تأثير مشاكل الشبكة على مستخدمينا النهائيين."

وفي اختبارات أخرى وعمليات نشر مبكرة، مكَنت إريكسون المشغلين من تحقيق معدل نجاح شبه مثالي في التعامل مع تغيرات البرمجيات وتقليل فترة استرداد الخدمة في حالات الطوارئ بشكل كبير من 4 ساعات إلى 60 دقيقة فقط وفي أحد الأمثلة، تمكَن مشغل أوروبي من تقليل حوادث الشبكة بنسبة 30% على الرغم من مضاعفة العدد الإجمالي للتحديثات بمقدار ثلاثة أضعاف سنوياً.

وقال بول ريزوتو، المحلل المختص بشؤون خدمات وحلول الاتصال في مؤسسة جلوبال داتا (كرينت أناليسيز سابقاً): "إن نهج اريكسون الشامل لعمليات الشبكة يعالج التعقيد المتزايد الذي يواجهه المشغلون فيما يتعلق بتحديات دعم البيئات الافتراضية والهجينة ومن الملاحظ أن مهندسي الشركة يزيدون من قاعدة معرفتهم العميقة من خلال تحليلات مثالية وأدوات بحثية ومعلوماتية لخلق ترابط قوي بين الإنسان والآلة. New facility to address demand for professional trucking facilities and services in the UAE

Nasser Bin Abdullatif Alserkal Est., the sole importer and distributor of Bridgestone brand tires for Dubai and the Northern Emirates within the UAE, in partnership with Dubai Municipality, has successfully broken ground for the construction of a modern AED 10 million Alserkal Bridgestone Truck Tyre Centre. The new facility, which spans across 52,000 square feet, is part of Alserkal’s strategic retail expansion plan and will be built within the truck and heavy equipment market in the Al Ruwwaya area of Dubai.

The ground-breaking ceremony was led by officials from both Nasser Bin Abdullatif Alserkal Est., Dubai Municipality and Bridgestone Middle East & Africa, which included Ahmad Bin Eisa Alserkal, Vice Chairman, Nasser Bin Abdullatif Alserkal; Ahmed Abdul Karim, Assistant Director General for Public Support, Dubai Municipality; Eng. Jumaa Al Fakaii, Director of Property Management Department, Dubai Municipality; Faisal Al Badiaoui, Director of Market Management, Dubai Municipality; Eng. Omar Abdulrahman, Head of Investment Department, Dubai Municipality; along with representatives from Bridgestone ME. Also present during the event were senior representatives from RTA, Dubai Police, Emirates Transport, Dubai Government Workshop, ENOC Lubricants, and Enoc Tasjeel.

Recent industry reports have shown that truck market sales in the UAE are expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8 percent until 2021. With this in mind, industry analysts have lauded the Alserkal Bridgestone Truck Tyre Centre as both timely and strategic, as it is expected to cater to cover the increasing demand for a professional trucking centre and facility for the UAE. The new centre, which is up for completion during the end of the first quarter of 2018, will be staffed with certified and highly- experienced trucking maintenance managers and technicians--in full compliance of set international standards and best practices in heavy vehicle maintenance.

“The transport and commercial movement for import and re-export of trucks and heavy equipment will continue its growth for the trucking and heavy equipment segment, accompanied by a continuously increasing demand for a facility that can service and address all trucking needs of heavy vehicles passing through Dubai's roads. This new centre, once completed, will be the first ever truck and heavy equipment facility that will combine all trucks and heavy vehicles in one location.” said Eng. The centre will house a truck wash, repair facility and a registration & insurance counter--providing a complete solution to private, fleet and transport companies. The Alserkal Bridgestone Truck Tyre Centre will also be offering preventive maintenance services (PM) for trucks and trailers, which include oil, lube and filter service; DOT annual inspections; electrical repairs for lights, charging and starting; brake adjustments, repair and replacements; wheel-end work; and minor body repair services.

5 يونيو 2017 - أعلنت مؤسسة ناصر بن عبد اللطيف السركال، المستورد والموزع الوحيد لإطارات بريدجستون في دبي والإمارات الشمالية في دولة الإمارات، عن إطلاقها مشروع "مركز السركال بريدجستون لخدمات غسيل وتشحيم وتبديل الزيوت والإطارات والفحص الفني للشاحنات والمعدات الثقيلة "، بالشراكة مع بلدية دبي والتي تبلغ قيمته 10 مليون درهم إماراتي ويمتد على مساحة 52,000 قدم مربع، ويشكل هذا المشروع جزءاً من الخطة الاستراتيجية لمؤسسة السركال الرامية إلى توسيع نطاق أعمالها في قطاع التجزئة ويقع في سوق الشاحنات والمعدات الثقيلة في منطقة الروية في دبي. وأقيم حفل افتتاح المشروع بحضور عدد من المسؤولين من مؤسسة ناصر بن عبد اللطيف السركال وبلدية دبي وبريدجستون الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا، ومن أبرزهم؛ أحمد بن عيسى السركال، نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة في مؤسسة ناصر بن عبد اللطيف السركال؛ وعدد من موظفي شركة بريدجستون الشرق الأوسط؛ احمد عبد الكريم، مساعد المدير العام لقطاع الدعم العام في بلدية دبي؛ المهندس جمعه الفقاعي، مدير إدارة الممتلكات في بلدية دبي؛ وفيصل البديوي، رئيس قسم إدارة الاسواق، في بلدية دبي؛ والمهندس عمر عبد الرحمن، رئيس فسم الاستثمار، في بلدية دبي؛ وعدد من موظفي إدارة الممتلكات، إلى جانب كبار الممثلين من "هيئة الطرق والمواصلات"، و"شرطة دبي"، و"شركة الإمارات للنقل"، و"ورشة حكومة دبي"، وشركة "إينوك للزيوت" و"إينوك تسجيل".

وأظهرت التقارير الصادرة مؤخراً أنه من المتوقع أن تواصل مبيعات سوق الشاحنات في دولة الإمارات نموها بمعدل سنوي مركب يبلغ 8% حتى عام 2021، مما جعل المحللين ينظرون بإيجابية وتفاؤل حيال "مركز السركال بريدجستون لخدمات غسيل وتشحيم وتبديل الزيوت والإطارات والفحص الفني للشاحنات والمعدات الثقيلة" نظراً لتوقيت إطلاق هذا المشروع المبتكر ودوره الاستراتيجي في تلبية احتياجات السوق في ظل الطلب المتزايد على وجود مركز ومرفق متخصص للشاحنات في الدولة. ومن المقرر إنجاز المركز الجديد في نهاية الربع الأول من العام 2018، وسيتضمن فريق عمله عدداً من أبرز المدراء وفنيو الصيانة المعتمدين المتخصصين في مجال صيانة وتنظيف الشاحنات  والمعدات الثقيلة ووفقاً لأعلى المعايير الدولية وأفضل الممارسات المتبعة في صيانة المركبات الثقيلة.

وقد أشار المهندس جمعه الفقاعي، مدير إدارة الممتلكات في بلدية دبي بأن قطاع النقل والحركة التجارية لاستيراد وإعادة تصدير الشاحنات والمعدات الثقيلة سيشهد نمواً مستمراً بالتزامن مع تزايد الطلب المتزايد على وجود منشأة قادرة على تلبية جميع احتياجات الشاحنات والمعدات الثقيلة التي يتم توريدها لسوق الشاحنات في الروية 3 التابع لبلدية دبي لغايات إعادة بيعها للسوق المحلي والخارجي بالإضافة إلى التي تمر عبر طرق دبي. وسيكون هذا المركز الجديد عند إنجازه، أول منشأة من نوعها متخصصة في خدمات الشاحنات وصيانة المعدات الثقيلة والتي تضمّ كافة أنواع الشاحنات والآليات الثقيلة في مكان واحد ويحقق الاستدامة البيئية

Senior delegation led by Brazilian Agriculture Minister successfully completes four-nation visit to strengthen agribusiness ties with GCC

Import of livestock products from Brazil to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait & Qatar increased 12 per cent with USD 1.363 billion generated during Q1 of 2017

UAE, June 5, 2017 - His Excellency (H.E.) Blairo Maggi, Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, successfully completed his visit to the GCC, throwing the spotlight on the high quality of Brazilian goods, especially agriculture and livestock, as well as drawing interest from potential investors. Maggi was accompanied by a delegation composed of senior government officials, multinational companies, and leading private sector organizations such as the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). The Brazilian delegations stops included Kuwait, followed by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.

According to recent statistics, Saudi Arabia emerged the fourth biggest importer of agriculture and livestock products from Brazil for the first quarter of 2017, while the UAE ranked 19^th. In fact, the Middle East is the world’s biggest importer of poultry from Brazil. During the same period, Brazilian agribusiness export to the four GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar touched USD 1.363 billion, an increase of 12 per cent for the same period in 2016.

During their visit to the GCC, the high-level delegation aimed at further strengthening its ties with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar in trade, investment and cooperation as these nations are long-time importers of Brazilian agri-business products, especially poultry. Nearly 20 delegates, representing about 25 agribusiness companies, met with senior government authorities in the four countries as well as participated in hosted seminars for potential investors to showcase their agribusiness projects in Brazil.

Rubens Hannun, President, Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Middle East in general and the four GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar in particular, have been traditional trade partners for Brazil. The four-nation tour was held to underline the importance of the bilateral ties between the Arab countries and Brazilian agribusiness and showcase its untapped opportunities.”

The delegation expressed its gratitude to the GCC nations for their response to the ‘Operation Carne Fraca’ (‘Operation Weak Flesh’), an operation by the Federal Police of Brazil to investigate 21 of the country’s largest meat processing companies and subsequently leading to a ban on the import of meat and poultry products by some countries. In addition, the visit underscored Brazil’s role in ensuring food security for the Arab countries that invest in overseas agricultural projects to ensure proper supply to their markets.

“The ABCC, in particular, has played a key role in highlighting the measures taken by Brazil as part of ‘Operation Carne Fraca.’ As part of the Operation, we had organized a meeting of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brazil with Brazilian ministers as well as hosted a tour to a meat packer in Rio Grande do Sul to enlighten them about our stringent halal process. We continue to relay information between the governments and private sector players which has further cemented relations between Brazil and the Arab countries,” concluded Hannun.

وزير الزراعة البرازيلي يبحث تعزيز التعاون التجاري مع الخليج العربي

1,363 مليار دولار حجم استيراد المنتجات الزراعية والحيوانية من البرازيل في الربع الأول من 2017 بنمو 12%

الإمارات، 5 يونيو 2017 – إختتم معالي بلايرو ماجي، وزير الزراعة البرازيلي، زيارة رسمية إلى دول الخليج العربي، يرافقه وفد رفيع المستوى من كبار المسؤولين الحكوميين ورجال الأعمال والمديرين التنفيذيين في قطاع الشركات وممثلين عن أبرز المنظمات المعنية بالشأن الاقتصادي، وفي مقدمتها "الغرفة التجارية العربية البرازيلية". وشكلت الجولة الخليجية فرصة هامة للترويج للمنتجات البرازيلية عالية الجودة، لا سيّما الزراعية والحيوانية، إلى جانب استقطاب اهتمام المستثمرين الخليجيين بالفرص الهائلة المتاحة حالياً في البرازيل. وشملت الجولة 4 محطات، يتمثل أولها في الكويت، ومن ثمّ تلتها السعودية والإمارات وقطر.

وتشير الإحصائيات الرسمية الأخيرة إلى أنّ السعودية تربعت على المركز الرابع بين قائمة أكبر مستوردي المنتجات الزراعية والحيوانية من البرازيل خلال الربع الأول من العام الجاري، فيما جاءت الإمارات في المرتبة التاسعة عشرة، في الوقت الذي تبرز فيه منطقة الشرق الأوسط باعتبارها أكبر مستورد للدواجن من البرازيل. وبالمقابل، وصل حجم الواردات البرازيلية من المنتجات الزراعية إلى السعودية والإمارات والكويت وقطر إلى 1,363 مليار دولار أمريكي خلال الأشهر الثلاثة الأولى من السنة الحالية، بزيادة قدرها 12%ٌ مقارنةً في الفترة ذاتها من السنة الفائتة.

وركزت جولة الوفد البرازيلي، برئاسة معالي بلايرو ماجي، على تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي والاستثماري والتجاري مع كل من السعودية والإمارات والكويت وقطر، باعتبارها من أهم المستوردين للمنتجات الزراعية والحيوانية البرازيلية، وبالأخص منتجات الدواجن. وشهدت الجولة عقد اجتماعات موسعة بين نحو 20 موفداً يمثلون 25 شركة برازيلية وكبار الشخصيات الحكومية في الدول الخليجية الأربع، بالإضافة إلى تنظيم ندوات متخصصة لتمكين المستثمرين المحتملين من استعراض مشاريهم الاستثمارية في البرازيل.وقال روبنز هانون، رئيس "الغرفة التجارية العربية البرازيلية": "لطالما برزت منطقة الشرق الأوسط والخليج العربي عموماً، وتحديداً السعودية والإمارات والكويت وقطر، كشريك تجاري رئيسي للبرازيل. لذا جاءت جولتنا الخليجية بمثابة تأكيد على أهمية العلاقات المثمرة بين الدول العربية والبرازيل، مقدمةً بذلك فرصة هامة لمناقشة السبل المثلى لتوظيف الفرص الواعدة وغير المستغلة بما يخدم التطلعات المشتركة."

وجاءت الزيارة بمثابة تقدير للاستجابة الإيجابية التي أظهرتها الدول الخليجية تجاه التحقيقات بقضية اللحوم منخفضة الجودة والمعروفة باسم "كارفي فراكا" (Carne Fraca)، والتي تقوم بها الحكومة الفيدرالية البرازيلية للتحقيق مع 21 من كبرى شركات تصنيع ومعالجة اللحوم في البرازيلية بسبب فضيحة اللحوم الفاسدة، التي تسببت في فرض حظر على استيراد بعض منتجات اللحوم والدواجن البرازيلية من قبل بعض دول العالم. وبالمقابل، أثبتة الجولة البرازيلية بأنها محطة ناجحة على صعيد التعريف بدور البرازيل في المساهمة بضمان الأمن الغذائي للدول العربية، التي تستثمر في المشاريع الزراعية الواعدة ضمن الأسواق العالمية من أجل توفير الإمدادات الغذائية التي تلبي احتياجات أسواقها.
