Montreux Comedy Festival brings international comedians to the UAE for an unforgettable night of laughter

2017 edition of most popular French-language comedy festival to feature shows in English for the first time ever

The people of the UAE are set to be treated to an unforgettable night of laughter with the arrival of the Montreux Comedy Festival, the biggest French-language comedy festival in the world bringing the most talented comedians from across the globe. The highly-anticipated event is now on its 28th year and is making a comeback for its second edition in the UAE--offering residents a crazy and loud night of laughter therapy.

The shows for this year’s festival have been slated for March 14, 2017 at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi and on March 15 and 16, 2017 at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC), Mall of Emirates, in Dubai. This will be the first time that the International Comedy Gala, co-produced by Culture Emulsion, will be hosting comedy shows in the English language as well. Abu Dhabi will feature the opening French speaking show while the Dubai leg will have a showcase in English & French.

Swiss citizen Grégoire Furrer, President and Founder of the Montreux Comedy Festival, said: “Laughter has always been a universal language that brings people together and we are excited to hold our 2017 edition of the festival in the UAE. Agreeing with the Swiss festival Organizer, the Ambassador of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates, Her Excellency Maya Tissafi said, “Montreux is a very symbolic region for Switzerland when it comes to humor, as it hosted Charlie Chaplin at a time when European countries were laughing at the idea of value-sharing. 40 years after the actor’s death, the Montreux comedy happily reminds us that it is now time to share laughs and values with our francophone family and Emirati friends.”

The French-speaking line-up for the Montreux Comedy @UAE 2017 includes Kominek from Switzerland, PE from Belgium, Mike Ward from Canada and Sebastian Marx from the USA. The show will be presented by PE from Belgium. The English-speaking line-up includes Ali Al Sayed from the UAE, Sebastian Marx from the USA and Mike Ward from Canada. The show will be presented by Loyiso Madinga from South Africa.

تتجه أنظار محبي الكوميديا حالياً إلى الدورة الثامنة عشرة من "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي" (Montreux Comedy Festival)، أكبر مهرجان للأعمال الفنية الكوميدية باللغة الفرنسية في العالم، الذي يَعِد متذوقي الفنون العالمية في دولة الإمارات بأمسية مفعمة بـ "الضحك الراقي" بمشاركة نخبة من الكوميديين الموهوبين. ويعود المهرجان المرتقب للمرة الثانية إلى الإمارات، حاملاً في جعبته سلسلة من العروض الفنية الحافلة بالفكاهة والضحك والدعابة ضمن أجواء باعثة على الفرح.

ومن المقرر أن تنطلق أولى عروض الكوميديا في 14 آذار/مارس المقبل في "جامعة باريس السوربون - أبوظبي"، على أن تنتقل موجة الضحك إلى "مسرح دبي الاجتماعي ومركز الفنون" في "مول الإمارات" بدبي، والذي سيحتضن الفعاليات العالمية على يومي 15 و16 آذار/مارس. وسيكون ضيوف "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي 2017" على موعد مع انطلاق النسخة الأولى من "إنترناشيونال كوميدي جالا" (International Comedy Gala) بالتعاون مع "كالتشر إمولشن" (Culture Emulsion)، والتي ستشهد سلسلة من العروض الكوميدية الشيّقة باللغة الإنجليزية إلى جانب الفرنسية. وتمتاز العروض الافتتاحية المقررة في أبوظبي بكونها موجهة إلى الناطقين بالفرنسية فقط، فيما تخاطب العروض المقررة في دبي الجمهور من الناطقين بالفرنسية والإنجليزية على السواء.

وقال غريغوار فوريه، مؤسس ورئيس "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي": "تسعدنا العودة مجدداً إلى دولة الإمارات التي ستكون الوجهة الحاضنة لـ "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي 2017"، الذي نتطلع من خلاله إلى الاحتفاء بالضحك الذي لطالما شكّل لغة عالمية من شأنها تعزيز التقارب بين الشعوب. وجاء قرارنا بتنظيم المهرجان للمرة الثانية في دولة الإمارات بالنظر إلى النجاح الذي حصدناها العام الماضي، والذي تجلى بالدرجة الأولى في حفاوة الاستقبال والإقبال الواسع من الجمهور الذي استمتع بعروضنا الكوميدية التي تنتمي إلى مدرسة "الضحك الراقي". وبالنظر إلى أنّ حس الفكاهة والضحك يمثل جزءاً لا يتجزأ من الثقافة المحلية والعالمية، فإنّنا على ثقة تامة بأنّ عروضنا الكوميدية المرتقبة ستترك أثراً إيجابياً عميقاً لدى الجمهور. ونتطلع إلى استضافة عروض باللغة الإنجليزية للمرة الأولى في تاريخنا، تماشياً مع حرصنا على الوصول إلى أكبر شريحة ممكنة من محبي فن الكوميديا في دولة الإمارات."

من جهتها، قالت سعادة مايا تيسافي، سفيرة سويسرا لدى دولة الإمارات: "تجسد مونترو ثقافة الضحك والمرح والدعابة في سويسرا، لا سيّما وأنها كانت الوجهة المختارة للأسطورة شارلي شابلن الذي قضى سنوات طويلة من حياته في هذه المدينة الساحرة. وبعد 40 عاماً من وفاة شابلن، يأتي "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي" ليوفر لنا منصة مثالية لنتشارك الضحك وننشر قيم السعادة ونحتفي بثقافة الدعابة مع الناطقين بالفرنسية والمواطنين والمقيمين في دولة الإمارات التي تعتبر البيئة المثالية الحاضنة للشعوب من مختلف الثقافات والجنسيات."

ويشارك في دورة العام من "مهرجان مونترو الكوميدي" في دولة الإمارات نخبة من أمهر نجوم الكوميديا المتحدّثين باللغة الفرنسية، في مقدّمتهم كومينيك من سويسرا ومايك ورد من كندا وسيباستيان ماركس من الولايات المتّحدة، بالإضافة إلى "بيه. إي" من بلجيكا الذي سيتولى تقديم الحدث. وستشتمل قائمة الكوميديين المتحدّثين باللغة الإنجليزية المشاركين في الحدث على كل من علي السيد من دولة الإمارات العربية المتّحدة، وسيباستيان ماركس من الولايات المتّحدة ومايك ورد من بلجيكا، في حين سيتولى لوييسو مادينجا من جنوب أفريقيا تقديم الفقرة.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy the New Chancellor of Gulf Medical University

The Board of Governors of Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman headed by the Founder President Thumbay Moideen, appointed internationally renowned medical educator and pediatric surgeon Prof. Hossam Hamdy as the Chancellor of GMU, the leading private medical university in the region.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy, accompanied by Thumbay Moideen, Founder, President of Board of Governors of GMU, was granted audience with His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, UAE and Ruler of Ajman, on Monday, January 30, 2017, where he was formally introduced to His Highness.

“Prof. Hossam Hamdy has joined GMU to help the University, to take it to a different level with his vast experience in the region. I am very confident that he will bring in international standards and new systems into the University,” said Thumbay Moideen, commenting on Prof. Hamdy’s appointment.

Speaking on his new role, Prof. Hossam Hamdy said, “I am pleased to join GMU. I look forward to having an exciting time supporting the journey of transition from a top-ranking medical University to a full-fledged Academic Healthcare System; a first-of-its-kind in the country.”

Prof. Hamdy, who has an enviable track-record as a renowned Professor of Surgery and Medical Education across leading medical institutions in the Gulf Region and worldwide, has been a distinguished scholar, professional, and leader in higher education in the Middle East for the last 40 years. He has established several Medical Colleges in Egypt, Bahrain, UAE, and Qatar, and brings with him a wealth of professional experience, having served in different senior academic and administrative positions; Vice Chancellor Medical & Health Science Colleges  - Sharjah University, Advisor to the President - Qatar University, Director of the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education, Dean College of Medicine and Medical Sciences - Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain and as WHO Consultant in Medical Education.  He is one of the founders of the Suez Canal University Medical College in Egypt, a leading institute of medical education in the region.

Prof. Hamdy is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal Medical Education, and Editorial Board of the Journal Health Profession Education. He is an avid researcher and has published more than 70 studies that are highly cited. He has introduced several innovations and best practices in Medical Education, and has received many awards like the Sheikh Khalifa Award for Higher Education for “Distinguished Professor in Teaching”. His efforts led the College of Medicine, Arabian Gulf University to win the “Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award” for Best Medical College in the Arab world. He was decorated by the Republic of France with the prestigious “Chevalier Dans L’ordre Des Palmes Academiques” / “Knight of the Order of Academic Palms” for his achievements.

Prof. Hamdy completed his MBChB and Doctorate of Surgery from Alexandria University, Egypt. He is Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians of England. He did his Ph.D. in Medical Education from the University of Groningen, Netherland.

Innovation Arabia 10 will feature a series of innovative training programs to be held on the sidelines of the international conferences. Quality & Business Management Conference 2017 will host a training workshop on ‘Planning by Scenarios – Shaping the Future,’ which is specifically designed by HBMSU in response to the decision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to adopt the ‘UAE Strategy for the Future.’ The latter seeks to anticipate opportunities and challenges across various industries in the UAE. Grundfos Launches Its First CRN Pumps Assembly Line in the Middle East

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 31 January 2017, (ME NewsWire): Grundfos, the award-winning world leader in advanced pump solutions, recently launched its first assembly line for CRN pumps in the Middle East. The opening of the assembly line located at the company’s facilities in Jebel Ali in Dubai comes following an extensive feasibility study that examined numerous product types.

In his remarks on the launch of the assembly line; Stewart Procter, Grundfos Senior Director Operations & Customer Service, Middle East noted: “Exceeding our client’s expectations is a main component of Grundfos philosophy. Therefore, and in order to maintain the maximum flexibility for our 13 countries, we recommended that the CRN pumps should be assembled in Grundfos facilities in the UAE rather than keeping finished stock units. The recommendations were approved by the Group’s headquarters.”

He continued: “The study we undertook concluded that we can increase sales of our CRN1-45 by 350 units in the first year alone. In case we applied further improvements and adhered to the set plans, this number could remarkably rise to an extra 2600 units by the fifth year.”

Notably, the approval for the assembly line was received at the end of August and the execution phase began through the VPC (Verification of product conformity) process immediately after. A small team in Grundfos was formed and included several departments such as the Product Management, Engineering, CSU (customer support unit), Quality and Production, along with several colleagues from the Group who provided help, guidance and the ultimate approval of the VPC.

The optimum mix of components had to be determined, ordered and shipped which takes six weeks transit time from Europe to Grundfos facilities in Jebel Ali. Various improvements to the test bed were made; lots of SAP data were entered; training sessions were organized; and production tools, printers, shelves and lifting tables were ordered as well.

“Whilst I would like to say it was a smooth process throughout the VPC. We did have several minor hiccups that were easily dealt with by our expert teams, and the first 14 pumps were ready by mid-December, and we were able to take some along to our Christmas party on 22nd December. “We can say now that we’re all set to start selling, 2017 started off with the first official GGD-assembled CRN order for one of our OEM customers,” concluded Procter.

غروندفوس تطلق أول خط تجميع وإنتاج لمضخات الطرد المركزي سي آر إن في الشرق الأوسط

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة, 31 يناير 2017, ("إم إي نيوز واير"): أطلقت "غروندفوس"، الشركة العالمية الرائدة في مجال تصنيع الحلول المتطورة للمضخات الحائزة على جوائز، أول خط تجميع وإنتاج لمضخات الطرد المركزي الرأسي متعدد المراحل ("سي آر إن") في الشرق الأوسط. ويأتي إفتتاح خط التجميع والتصنيع الموجود في مرافق الشركة في جبل علي في دبي، بعد دراسة جدوى واسعة النطاق شملت أنواعاً عدة  من المنتجات.

وقال ستيوارت بروكتر، المدير الأول لشؤون العمليات وخدمة العملاء لدى "غروندفوس" في الشرق الأوسط في معرض تعليقه على إطلاق خط التجميع والإنتاج: "يشكّل تخطي توقعات عملائنا الركيزة الأساسية لفلسفة ‘غروندفوس’. لذلك، وبهدف الحفاظ على أقصى قدر من المرونة لصالح البلدان الثلاث عشرة التي نخدمها، إقترحنا أن يتمّ تجميع وتصنيع مضخات الطرد المركزي الرأسي متعدد المراحل ("سي آر إن") في مرافق ‘غروندفوس’ في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، بدلاً من تخزين منتجات نهائية معدّة للبيع. وقد وافق المكتب الرئيسي للمجموعة على هذه المقترحات."

وتابع بروكتر: "توصّلت الدراسة التي أجريناها إلى أن هذا القرار سيسمح لنا أن نزيد مبيع مضخات ‘سي آر إن – 45’ بمقدار 350 وحدة في السنة الأولى وحدها. بالتالي، إن نفّذنا المزيد من التحسينات والتزمنا بالخطط الموضوعة، يمكن لهذا الرقم أن يرتفع بشكل ملحوظ إلى 2600 وحدة إضافية بحلول العام الخامس."

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن الموافقة على نقل خط التجميع والإنتاج أعلنت في نهاية أغسطس الماضي، وإنطلقت مرحلة التنفيذ مباشرة بعد ذلك، من خلال عملية المصادقة الطوعية على المنتج ("في بي سي"). وتم تشكيل فريق صغير من عدة أقسام داخل شركة "غروندفوس"، مثل إدارة المنتجات، الهندسة، قسم دعم العملاء ("سي إس يو") والجودة والإنتاج، إلى جانب العديد من الزملاء من المجموعة، الذين قدموا المساعدة والتوجيه والموافقة النهائية على المنتج.

تطلّبت العملية تحديد المزيج الأمثل من المكونات وطلبها وشحنها، وهي عملية تستغرق ستة أسابيع من أوروبا إلى مرافق "غروندفوس" في جبل علي. كما تمّ إدخال تحسينات مختلفة على منصة الإختبار والكثير من النظم والتطبيقات والمنتجات في معالجة البيانات؛ ونظمت الدورات التدريبية، وتمّ أيضاً طلب أدوات الإنتاج، والطابعات، والرفوف ومنصات الرفع الهيدروليكية.

وختم بروكتر كلامه بالقول: "في حين أود أن أقول أنها كانت عملية سلسة في كافة مراحل المصادقة الطوعية على المنتج، إلا أننا واجهنا بعض العقبات البسيطة التي تولت فرق الخبراء لدينا معالجتها، فكانت أول مجموعة من 14 مضخة جاهزة بحلول منتصف ديسمبر وتمكنا من عرض بعضها في حفلة عيد الميلاد في 22 ديسمبر. يمكننا الآن أن نعلن بأننا جاهزين لبدء بيع هذه المضخات؛ وقد سجّل عام 2017 أول طلبية رسمية لمضخات الطرد المركزي الرأسي متعدد المراحل ("سي آر إن") لصالح أحد عملائنا من صانعي القطع الأصلية."
