Lake Chad: Italy allocates 6.3 million euros for emergency actions in favour of Boko Haram victims

The actions will be carried out by Italian civil society organisations and other non-profit stakeholders working in the four Countries

Italy has allocated 6.3 million euros for emergency actions in the four countries of the Lake Chad Basin, namely Nigeria, Cameroun, Chad and Niger, which are facing the consequences of Boko Haram's radical and extremist violence. The actions will be carried out by Italian civil society organisations and other non-profit stakeholders working in the four Countries.  

Actions will especially focus on the most vulnerable segments of the community, large families, displaced people, refugees, women and children prey to malnutrition, with the aim of providing them immediate support and curb the migration flows headed towards Europe.

The entire Lake Chad region has in fact become a place of extensive violence leading to the forced displacement of the population, which is very difficult to help because of their lack of access to humanitarian aid.

Ericsson’s BOARD names Börje Ekholm new President and CEO

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Börje Ekholm President and CEO, effective January 16, 2017. Börje Ekholm will also remain a member of the Board of Directors of Ericsson.
Chairman of the Board Leif Johansson says: “I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Börje Ekholm. He has a solid understanding of both the technology and business implications of the ongoing convergence of telecoms, IT and media. Börje Ekholm joins Ericsson from his current position as CEO of Patricia Industries, a division within Investor. Prior to assuming this position in 2015, Börje Ekholm held the position as President and CEO of Investor AB between 2005 and 2015. Previous positions also include President of Investor Growth Capital Inc., as well as positions with Novare Kapital AB and McKinsey & Co Inc.

تعيين بورية إيكهولم في منصب الرئيس والمدير التنفيذي الجديد للشركة

أعلنت إريكسون (المدرجة في ناسداك باسم: ERIC) عن وصول مجلس إدارتها إلى قرار تعيين بورية إيكهولم في منصب الرئيس والمدير التنفيذي للشركة ابتداءً من 16 يناير 2017 وسيواصل إيكهولم أداء مهامه كعضو في مجلس إدارة شركة إريكسون أيضاً.
ويقول رئيس مجلس الإدارة لييف جوهانسن: "يسعدني الإعلان عن تعيين بورية إيكهولم كونه يتمتع بتفهم قوي لتطبيقات التكنولوجيا والأعمال في رحلة التغيير المتواصل التي يعيشها قطاع الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات والإعلام ومن خلال عمله في مجلس الإدارة خلال السنوات العشر الماضية، يمتلك إيكهولم إدراكاً متكاملاً للتحديات والفرص التي تواجه إريكسون في المرحلة الراهنة".
ويتولى بورية إيكهولم منصبه الجديد بعد عمله كمدير تنفيذي لشركة باتريشيا إندستريز للصناعات، وهي إحدى شركات إنفستر وقبل توليه هذا المنصب، عمل إيكهولم في منصب الرئيس والمدير التنفيذي لشركة إنفستر AB بين العامين 2005 و2015 وتضمنت مناصبه السابقة رئاسة شركة ’إنفستر جروث كابيتال‘، إضافة إلى مناصب أخرى في شركة ’نوفار كابيتال AB‘ و’ماكينزي آند كو‘.

UN approves Energy Efficiency Programme in the UAE

ESCO type and efficient lighting projects are now listed in the UNFCCC site as approved Programme of Activities for the UAE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai Carbon has jointly announced with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) that it has reached a major milestone to incentivise retrofit markets in the entire UAE. The UN backed Programme of Activities (PoA) framework, launched during WETEX 2016, will enable ESCO type and efficient lighting projects to earn carbon credits once included as Component Project Activities (CPAs) within the framework.

The PoAs will be managed by Etihad ESCO, the Dubai Government owned SuperESCO vehicle, with consultancy support from Dubai Carbon, which will also act as the coordinator between UNFCCC, Etihad ESCO, DSCE and CPAs. The PoA, ‘Fostering an ESCO Industry in the UAE’ once registered will become an umbrella programme for small-scale ESCO type projects, that from a financial point of view otherwise may not be suitable to apply for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project Activities.

Meanwhile, the ‘Lighting Efficiency PoA in the UAE’ will support energy-efficient lighting retrofit projects that cut energy demand and associated emissions.

HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, commented: “It is an exciting time for the UAE as we will set new benchmarks for public-private partnerships in the energy efficiency sector. This will open new opportunities for private companies to contribute towards realising the UAE’s aim to become one of the most sustainable countries in the world. The PoAs will further support the vision of our leaders to make Dubai a leading example of energy efficiency and hub for green economy investment, for the region, and globally.”

Waleed Salman, Chairman, Dubai Carbon, said: “We are thoroughly convinced that the private sector can bring highly effective solutions to consumers, and be a strategic partner for the public sector in achieving the UAE’s sustainability goals Both PoAs signed by us, will not only contribute in achieving UAE’s sustainability goals, but also to meet the carbon reduction target of 16% by 2021.”

Ivano Iannelli, CEO, Dubai Carbon, said, “Dubai government is providing project owners, both big and small, with an opportunity to improve the project economics and achieve UN backed Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) earned under these PoAs. The CERs are certificates designed by the UN to reward investors in energy efficiency projects, and allow investors in emission reduction projects to earn carbon credits that governments and companies can use to offset emissions. The PoAs will allow the inclusion of an unlimited number of projects over a 28-year lifespan.”

دبي ، الإمارات العربية المتحدة : أعلن المجلس الأعلى للطاقة في دبي و مركز دبي المتميز لضبط الكربون عن توقيع اتفاقيتين هامتين مع المجلس الأعلى للطاقة في دبي ، بهدف تعزيز كفاءة استخدام الطاقة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. وسيمكّن إطار برنامج الأنشطة (PoA) المدعوم من الأمم المتحدة، والذي تم توقيعه خلال معرض تكنولوجيا المياه والطاقة والبيئة (ويتكس 2016)، شركات توفير خدمات الطاقة ومشاريع ترشيد الإضاءة من الحصول على ائتمانات الكربون حالما يتم تضمينها كأنشطة مكونة للمشروع (CPAs) ضمن إطار البرنامج.

وحيث تقوم شركة ’الاتحاد اسكو‘ لخدمات الطاقة المملوكة لحكومة دبي و التي تعمل تحت إشراف المجلس الأعلى للطاقة في دبي ، بإدارة وتنظيم برنامج الأنشطة فيما يتولى مهام الدعم الاستشاري مركز دبي المتميز لضبط الكربون والذي يعمل حالياً كمنسق بين اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة الإطارية بشأن تغيير المناخ (UNFCCC) و شركة ’الاتحاد اسكو‘ لخدمات الطاقة والمجلس الأعلى للطاقة في دبي والأنشطة المكونة للمشروع. ومن المقرر أن يدعم برنامج الأنشطة " قطاع شركات توفير خدمات الطاقة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة" حال تسجيله كمظلةً لمشاريع شركات توفير خدمات الطاقة الصغيرة والتي قد لا تكون قادرة على التقدم بطلب أنشطة برنامج آلية التنمية النظيفة (CDM).

وفي الوقت نفسه، سيدعم "برنامج أنشطة ترشيد الإضاءة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة" مشاريع الإصلاحات المرتبطة بترشيد الإضاءة والتي من شأنها تخفيض تخفض الطلب على الطاقة والانبعاثات الناجمة عنها.

وتعليقاً على ذلك، قال سعادة أحمد بطي المحيربي، الأمين العام للمجلس الأعلى للطاقة في دبي: "إنها مرحلة مميزة للإمارات العربية المتحدة أن نشهد وضع معايير جديدة للشراكات بين القطاعين العام والخاص فيمجال كفاءة استخدام الطاقة. سيوفر هذا الحدث فرصاً جديدة لشركات القطاع الخاص للمساهمة في تحقيق هدف دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في أن تصبح واحدة من أكثر البلدان المستدامة في العالم. كما سيقدم برنامج الأنشطة المزيد من الدعم لرؤية قادتنا في جعل دبي مثالاً رائداً في كفاءة استخدام الطاقة ومركزاً لاستثمار الاقتصاد الأخضر في المنطقة والعالم على حدٍّ سواء".

وبدوره، قال المهندس وليد سلمان، رئيس مجلس إدارة مركز دبي المتميز لضبط الكربون: "نحن مقتنعون بقدرة القطاع الخاص على توفير حلول فعالة للغاية للمستهلكين وبأنه سيكون شريكاً استراتيجياً للقطاع العام في تحقيق أهداف الإمارات على صعيد الاستدامة. لا شك أن برنامجي الأنشطة الذين وقعناهما سوف يسهمان في تحقيق أهداف الاستدامة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة كما أنهما سيشاركان أيضاً في تحقيق الهدف المتمثل بخفض انبعاثات الكربون بنسبة 16% بحلول العام 2021."

ومن جانبه، قال إيفانو انيللي، الرئيس التنفيذي في مركز دبي المتميز لضبط الكربون: "تقدم حكومة دبي لأصحاب المشاريع الصغيرة فرصة الحصول على ائتمانات الكربون من خلال شهادات خفض الانبعاثات (CERs) المكتسبة في ظل برنامج الأنشطة هذا. حيث ان شهادات خفض الانبعاثات هي شهادات تصدرها الأمم المتحدة لمكافأة المستثمرين في مشاريع ترشيد الطاقة، وتسمح للمستثمرين في مشاريع الحد من الانبعاثات من كسب ائتمانات الكربون التي يمكن للحكومات والشركات استخدامها لتعويض الانبعاثات. كما يسمح برنامج الأنشطة بإدراج عدد غير محدودمن المشاريع خلال 28 عاماً".
