Slovenian Government, Tourism & Trade Delegation Conducts First Ever “Trade & Investment Mission” to the U.A.E

- Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology His Excellency Zdravko Počivalšek heads largest Slovenian international trade delegation to any country to develop commercial networks and trade for mutual benefit with UAE partners -

[Dubai, 21 September 2016] Slovenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology will commence its first ‘Trade and Investment Mission’ to the United Arab Emirates today, 21 September 2016, by holding a number of high level government and private business meetings, seminars and events with the UAE’s political and commercial elite. The mission is significant not only as it is the first such mission from Slovenia to visit the UAE, but for its size, which includes over 80 Slovenian industry and government leaders, representing almost 50 companies across 6 economic sectors, making it the largest Slovenian trade mission of its kind to GCC.
The initiative, led by the Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology His Excellency Zdravko Počivalšek, will commence with an invitation only “I FEEL SLOVENIA EVENING” at the St. Regis Dubai on the evening of 21 September 2016, followed by a “UAE – SLOVENIA SEMINAR” to be held at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce on 22 September 2016. Seminar highlights will include a special address by His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, a keynote speech by the Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology His Excellency Zdravko Počivalšek, and presentations by the Director General of the Slovenian Tourist Board Maja Pak, the Director of SPIRIT Slovenia (the Public Agency for Entrepreneurship, Internationalization, Foreign Investments and Technology) Gorazd Mihelič, and other Slovenian and Dubai commercial leaders. Following the seminar Slovenian delegates and the UAE’s business leaders will assemble for individual business meetings, including a business workshop specifically for the UAE’s leading travel agencies and Slovenian tourism sector partners.
Commenting on this historic occasion His Excellency Zdravko Počivalšek, Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology noted: “This being the largest such business and trade delegation from Slovenia to GCC signifies the importance, commitment and expectations that Slovenia’s business elites have in building strong political, commercial and trade ties with the government and business leaders of the United Arab Emirates. Chief Executive Offices and Directors from around 50 leading Slovenian companies are present in the delegation representing companies from various sectors including; Agriculture and Food Processing, the Electro Industry, Information and Communication Technologies, Interior Design, Engineering, and the largest participating sector with 24 companies, Tourism.
Slovenia is a world leader in sustainable development, signified by the country’s capital Ljubljana being awarded 2016 European Green Capital and demonstrated by Global Green Destinations Day, which will take place in Slovenia later this year. Slovenia is awarded as the fifth greenest country in the world while the country is also ranked as the 10th safest country in world based on the Global Peace Index 2016. (دبي،دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة،22 سبتمبر 2016 ) : اختتم سعادة السيد زدرافكو بوتشفيالشك،وزير التنمية الاقتصادية والتكنولوجيا السلوفيني زيارته بنجاح إلى دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، وذلك عبر  أول مهمة اقتصادية و استثمارية له في منطقة الخليج،التقى خلالها معالي سلطان بن سعيد المنصوري،وزير الاقتصاد الإماراتي،حيث قام بتسليمه خطاب رسمي من جمهورية سلوفينيا  في 22 سبتمبر 2016 ،مؤكداً فيه مشاركة بلاده في معرض أكسبو  2020 دبي،وقد تم إبرام هذه الاتفاقية في ندوة جمعت الجانبين بغرف تجارة وصناعة دبي،والتي تضمنت عروضاً و خطابات تطرقت إلى تطوير و تعزيز العلاقات الاقتصادية و التجارية بين البلدين.

وحضر الندوة أكثر من 140 من المسؤولين الحكوميين ،صناع القرار و كبار رجال الأعمال الإماراتيين،في حين ضم الوفد السلوفيني 80 شخصية على نحوٍ  يمثلون فيه  50 شركة موزعة على 6 قطاعات اقتصادية بما في ذلك: الزراعة،صناعة الأغذية،الصناعات الكهربائية،تكنولوجيا المعلومات،الاتصالات والديكور الداخلي، وعقب الندوة عقد قادة الأعمال من الإمارات مع نظرائهم السلوفينين اجتماعاً ناقشوا فيه سبل ترقية برامج العمل  السياحي علماً إن الوفد السلوفيني يحتضن 24 شركة سياحية عريقة.وفي ذات الشأن نظمت ورشة عمل لـ 75 خبيراً ومتخصصاً في ميدان السياحة الصادرة من دولة الإمارات،سعياً منهم إلى تشجيع سكان الدولة ومقيمها لزيارة سلوفينيا للترفيه والبزنس في آنٍ معاً .

من جانبه صرح سعادة زدرافكو بوتشفيالشك،وزير التنمية الاقتصادية والتكنولوجيا السلوفيني قائلاً : بالنيابة عن جمهورية سلوفينيا،إنه لمن دواعي سروري أن أعلن رسمياً عن مشاركة سلوفينيا في معرض أكسبو 2020 دبي،منوهاً إلى النجاح الكبير للبعثة الأولى والتاريخية إلى دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة،ومشيراً بقوله إلى بداية عهد جديد للتبادل التجاري والعلاقات الاستثنائية بين الدولتين،وذكر سعادته إن هذه المشاركة المستقبلية في المعرض تستند على متانة العلاقات الحكومية مع الإمارات،التي سنجم عنها نتائج إيجابية على مستوى النمو الاقتصادي للدولتين،بشكلٍ تستمر فيه إلى ما بعد عام 2020 .

African public-private partnerships are fast-tracking education improvement from primary school to university, potentially levelling the playing field for millions of students worldwide.

In the face of electricity shortages and over-crowding, African public-private partnerships are integrating technology in education to enhance learning. Broadband supports tablets, laptops, and online courses to reach students with poor or no access to education, improve teacher training, and lower costs, according to a recent report by UNESCO.

For example, Africa’s e-learning market has doubled from 2011 to 2016, reaching USD 513 million, according to a report by market researchers Ambient Insights. South Africa is Africa’s largest e-learning market, along with Angola, Nigeria, and Tunisia. Meanwhile, Senegal, Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are posting 25 per cent annual e-learning market growth.

“Africa is one the world’s most dynamic education markets. Public-private partnerships show best practices for using technology to reach marginalised students with technology that students use in their daily lives. Africa presents exciting business opportunities for education technology vendors and startups worldwide,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice-President, for Exhibitions and Events Management at Dubai World Trade Centre, host of GITEX Technology Week, one of the world’s most influential technology gatherings and conferences.

Supporting technology investment in Africa, GITEX Technology Week will host the Africa Investment Forum, in partnership with Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Authority. Over 20 African countries will show how technology can enhance verticals, support foreign direct investment in ICT, and drive economic growth.

The Arabian Gulf states and South Africa enjoy strong trade ties, especially in electronics, construction, and defence. Trade between South Africa and the UAE, where Dubai is the largest city, reached about USD 3 billion in 2015, and the governments are hoping to double its value in the coming years, according to the South African Consulate General in Dubai.

The Rumie Initiative Shows Power of Affordable Tech

African education projects are seeing the power of partnerships with local and international NGOs. The Rumie Initiative, a Canada-based NGO, has produced the Rumie tablet that is in the hands of more than 3,000 children in Africa, including in Benin, Egypt, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda.

“Rumie saw an opportunity to give disadvantaged students access to the kind of free digital learning materials that had been available only to affluent schools in the past,” said Tariq Fancy, the founder and executive director of The Rumie Initiative, and one of dozens of educational luminaries speaking at GITEX’s Education Vertical Days conference programme.

The affordable Rumie tablet is pre-loaded with USD 5,000 worth of crowdsourced educational software and textbooks, with the impact of every dollar spent delivering 100 times the impact.

“Tablets can be sourced and distributed cheaply, the cloud provides low costs for storage, and crowd-sourced content allows educators to provide students with the local resources that best meet their needs. Rumie is now untethering content from tablets so that any student with a mobile device can learn from anywhere at any time,” added Tariq Fancy.

Further energising education innovation will be global technology companies, such as South Africa’s Dimension Data. African startups at the GITEX Startup Movement, the world’s most global startup event in 2016, will be able to have their business plans validated by global investors, pitch for USD 160,000 in funding, and network with fellow innovators.

Smart device hacking gets real

For years now, cybersecurity risk exaggerators have been talking about the threat to connected devices from hackers and other cybercriminals. But most observers have scoffed at stories of networked fridges or toasters being hacked and hijacked by cybercriminals. Just where is the real threat to our day-to-day lives from this sort of Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD), they have asked?

Even suggestions that cybercriminals – possibly State-sponsored – have found ways to take down nuclear power stations and power grids is slightly more worrying, but far removed from our everyday experiences and influences.

But news this week that car manufacturer Volkswagen has set up a special cybersecurity firm to protect smart connected vehicles from attack by hackers and other undesirables, would tend to suggest smart device security is getting “real” and is now part of business consciousness.

So far attacks on internet connected cars and self-driving vehicles have simply been the realms of researchers and proof-of-concept, but clearly if manufacturers like car makers are worried that one day their vehicles could be a major target for hackers, we are moving from concepts to realities.

Of course we really should not be surprised that criminals are turning their eyes towards connected devices. After all, hardly a day goes by without new connected devices and services being launched and, if we know one thing about cybercriminals, they follow the opportunity to make money and look to exploit new avenues as services and solutions become mainstream.

It’s all a part of the Internet of Things, or IoT. These connected devices are impacting our lives on a daily basis, changing everything from the way we provide healthcare to heating our homes to running our manufacturing facilities and other critical infrastructure. Of course the ultimate goal of IoT is to increase operational efficiency, power new business models, and improve quality of life. By connecting everyday objects and networking them together, we benefit from their ability to combine simple data to produce usable intelligence. But that also means there is greater potential that more personal information and business data will exist in the cloud and be passed back and forth, and with that comes significant implications for applying proper security to protect the data and establishing privacy policies to address how the data is used.

While much is changing, what continues to be true is that in today’s world of IoT, security needs to be top of mind as the number and type of attack vectors will continue to increase as will the amount of data, creating a daunting challenge for companies and those responsible to defend the infrastructure and keep a watchful eye on would-be attackers and their motives.

We need to ensure we install security on these devices at design stage, not as an afterthought; we maintain sensible security precautions like patching and password discipline; and that we monitor the impact these devices have on our digital footprint and how that puts ourselves and the companies we work for under the potential threat of exploitation.

That way we can hope to take advantage of the undoubted benefits the connected world gives us, while still remaining safe.

تم ترشيح التحفة الفنية من لويس موانيه، إصدار Memoris Red Eclipse الأنيق، والتي صُنعت احتفالا باختراع لويس موانيه للكرونوغراف وتقديرا للحدث الخاص الذي يحتفي بمرور 200 عام لمرصد نيوشاتل، خلال  جائزة جنيف الكبرى للساعات الفخمة 2016 في فئة الكرونوغراف.

يعد ميموري Memoris أول كرونوغراف تعليمي في تاريخ تصنيع الساعات. يتسم هذا الموديل بالجوانب الفنية والممتعة، حيث يعرض تصميم الكرونوغراف على جانب الميناء. يحتوي “Red Eclipse” على قمر أحمر بطلاء ورق ذهبي على وزنه المذبذب، إلى جانب نقوشات يدوية الصنع على معابره والطارة.

يصادف العام 2016 مرور مائتي عام على اختراع الكرونوغراف. وسيتم تنظيم حدث بعنوان "200 عام في 24 ساعة" في مرصد نيوشاتل في سبتمبر لمراقبة كسوف القمر. وتكريما للمراقبات الفلكية من لويس موانيه سيتم الكشف عن موديل “Red Eclipse” المقدم هنا. يبرز “Red Eclipse” هذه السلالة السماوية بقمر أحمر بطلاء ورق ذهبي على وزنه المذبذب، إلى جانب نقوشات يدوية الصنع على معابره وطارته. علبة الذهب الأبيض هي الأخرى يدوية النقش تماما، بفكرة الكسوف القمري، ومزينة بجواهر في نهاية الأجزاء الناتئة. وفي نفس الوقت يتم عرض توقيت Memoris على ميناء طلاء Grand Feu.

توفر التركيبة الفريدة في Memoris قياس الوقت وتسمح لك بتفهم كيفية عمله أيضا. بلمسة واحدة رقيقة على المكبس، تقع عيناك على أداء فريد: آلية أجزاء وتروس الفولاذ وهي تحيا، كلها بتنسيق الترس العمودي عند الساعة 12 تماما. الترس العمودي ذاته، الذي يحتوي على سنّة في القاعدة وأعمدة رأسية تم قصها بمنتهى الدقة، هي نجم العرض. تحيي الأوجه المتعددة لهذا الجزء المتطابق رافعات متعددة تجعل المعلومات في المتناول.
