SODIC Wins “Best Residential Developer” and “Best Office Developer” in Euromoney’s Real Estate Survey 2016

SODIC announced that it had been selected by the prestigious Euromoney awards as “Best Residential Developer” and “Best Office/Business Developer” in Egypt for the year 2016. The awards are the result of an industry wide survey, and come as a testament to the developers’ leading position in the industry.

أعلنت شركة السادس من أكتوبر للتنمية والاستثمار (سوديك) عن فوزها بجائزتي "أفضل مطور سكني"، و"أفضل مطور عقاري"- فئة المكاتب الإدارية، وذلك ضمن الاستطلاع الخاص بـ "جوائز يورومني العقارية لعام 2016". يتم منح جوائز يورومني العقارية بناءً على استطلاعات آراء موسعة، وتعكس بالتالي المكانة الرائدة للمطورين العقاريين الذين يفوزون بها.

Maritime leaders to discuss regional prospects in challenging global trade conditions

International line-up of industry experts to weigh up current and future impact of continued low oil prices and slowing Chinese trade at Seatrade conference

The eighth edition of the biennial Seatrade Maritime Middle East (SMME) exhibition and conference, which takes place in Dubai from 31 October to 2 November 2016, will open with an economic forum session addressing the challenges and prospects for the industry in light of future oil price forecasts, the state of the Middle East economy and the effect of the Chinese trade slowdown on the region’s maritime sector.

SMME, a part of Dubai Maritime Week, has speakers and delegates representing international and regional shipping operators, ports, financiers and associated maritime professionals, who will gather for a high profile 90-minute panel session, moderated by broadcast journalist, Eithne Treanor, that will set the tone for the three-day conference and exhibition.

According to data released by FocusEconomics, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region growth continues to be hampered by geopolitical risks and weak global growth, with oil-driven economies most impacted in light of the unstable oil price scenario, with regional consolidation also hampering short-term growth. The online forecast expects inflation at 4.6% in 2016, increasing to 4.9% in 2017.

“In its August 2016 update, FocusEconomics’ panel of analysts kept the region’s growth projections stable at a conservative 2.3% (growing to 3% in 2017), which, if it holds will be the weakest growth rate since the apex of the financial crisis in 2009. This is sounding a warning bell for government and industry leaders across the region, and SMME 2016 will provide a timely and essential platform for discussion as the maritime community looks at ways to mitigate, consolidate and re-strategise amidst this prolonged period of uncertainty,” said Chris Hayman, Chairman, Seatrade.

Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, SMME is the largest maritime event in the regional calendar

Other panelists at the opening session include Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai, President & CEO, Milaha; Marcus Machin, CEO, Tufton Oceanic Finance Group; Admiral Mohab Mohamed Mameesh, Chairman & MD, Suez Canal Authority; Tim Power, MD, Drewry; and Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Non-Executive Director and Vice Chairman, DP World.

According to Hayman, amongst other issues likely to affect the regional maritime sector, such as Europe’s refugee and debt crises, US monetary tightening and Brexit, the panelists will also debate the impact of China’s slowing trade and the country’s economic stability.

“At the start of 2016, the IMF warned that the effect of China rebalancing its economy will continue to impact global economic growth through 2017. However, it also highlighted a gradual improvement of growth rates for some currently ‘distressed’ Middle Eastern economies, which could – in the longer term - see a revival of maritime opportunity in certain locations.

“But with other geopolitical issues in play, including ongoing discussions surrounding the need for a production limitation commitment from Russia and Saudi Arabia, which was a major talking point at the recent G20 Summit in China, as well as the impact of the US’ shale oil market on future crude oil prospects, this is a challenging market for the MENA maritime industry at present.”

More than 7,000 participants from 67 countries are expected throughout the show, which is set to evaluate current market challenges as well as look at ground-breaking case studies such as Egypt’s Suez Canal expansion, alongside a series of technical forums in association with IMarEST.

Over 240 exhibitors from more than 30 countries will also be represented on the exhibition floor this year, which extends to over 4,300 square metres - Japan, Denmark, Qatar, Singapore are participating with dedicated country pavilions.  Major delegations from Saudi Arabia, UK, Egypt and China, will be visiting the 61st International Shipsuppliers & Services Association's (ISSA) Convention, which is a partner of SMME 2016.

   

خبراء القطاع البحري يناقشون تأثير ظروف التجارة العالمية على صعيد المنطقة

• الحدث يسلط الضوء على أبرز الجوانب الحالية والمستقبلية لاستمرار انخفاض أسعار النفط وتباطؤ التجارة الصينية على قطاع النقل البحري

تنعقد الدورة الثامنة من مؤتمر ومعرض سيتريد الشرق الأوسط للقطاع البحري في دبي خلال الفترة 31 أكتوبر - 2 نوفمبر عام 2016، ويفتتح هذا الحدث الرائد الذي ينعقد كل عامين فعالياته بتنظيم جلسة المنتدى الاقتصادي لتسليط الضوء على أبرز التحديات الراهنة والآفاق المستقبلية وارتباطها بتوقعات أسعار النفط، والوضع الاقتصادي في منطقة الشرق الأوسط، وتأثير تباطؤ التجارة الصيني على قطاع النقل البحري في المنطقة.

ويعد مؤتمر ومعرض سيتريد الشرق الأوسط للقطاع البحري جزءاً من فعاليات أسبوع دبي البحري الذي ينعقد برعاية سمو الشيخ حمدان بن محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، ولي عهد دبي، في نهاية شهر أكتوبر القادم. وستتم استضافة نخبة من أبرز المتحدثين وممثلي شركات الشحن الدولية والإقليمية والموانئ بالإضافة إلى الممولين والمهنيين والعاملين في القطاع البحري في جلسة نقاش لمدة 90 دقيقة تديرها الصحفية إيثني ترينور.

ووفقاً للبيانات الصادرة عن "فوكس إيكونوميز" فإن مسيرة النمو في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا تتأثر بسبب المخاطر الجيوسياسية وضعف النمو العالمي، وتأثر الوضع الاقتصادي بسب أسعار النفط غير المستقرة. وتشير التوقعات إلى وصول معدلات التضخم إلى 4.6٪ في عام 2016 لتصل إلى 4.9٪ في عام 2017.

وبهذا السياق قال كريس هايمان، رئيس مجلس إدارة سيتريد: "أشارت لجنة الخبراء في ’فوكس إيكونوميز‘ في تقرير حديث صدر في شهر أغسطس 2016 إلى أن توقعات النمو في المنطقة ستسجل نسبة 2.3٪ هذا العام (وتصل إلى 3٪ في عام 2017)، وهو أضعف معدل نمو منذ ذروة الأزمة المالية في عام 2009. وهذا ما يجسد دلالة واضحة على أهمية مبادرة صناع القرار والقادة في هذا القطاع على مستوى المنطقة باتخاذ الإجراءات المناسبة. ويوفر مؤتمر ومعرض سيتريد الشرق الأوسط للقطاع البحري 2016 منصة مثالية وضرورية لمناقشة تطلعات القطاع البحري وأهمية تطوير الاستراتيجية المستقبلية".

وأشار هايمان إلى أنه سيتم تسليط الضوء أيضاً على العديد من القضايا الرئيسية الأخرى التي يمكن أن تؤثر على القطاع البحري الإقليمي، مثل أزمة اللاجئين في أوروبا، وأزمة الديون، والسياسة النقدية الأميركية، وخروج بريطانيا من الاتحاد الأوروبي، وتباطؤ التجارة الصينية، والاستقرار الاقتصادي.

وعلق بالقول: "حذر صندوق النقد الدولي في بداية عام 2016 أن تأثير إعادة توازن اقتصاد الصين سوف يستمر بالتأثير على نمو الاقتصاد العالمي خلال عام 2017. كما أنه أشار إلى وجود تحسن تدريجي في معدلات النمو لبعض اقتصادات الشرق الأوسط المتعثرة في الوقت الراهن، والتي يمكن أن لديها فرصة لإحياء القطاع البحري في العديد من المواقع على المدى الطويل".

وأضاف هايمان قائلاً: "توجد العديد من القضايا الجيوسياسية المؤثرة بما في ذلك المناقشات الجارية حول ضرورة التزام روسيا والمملكة العربية السعودية بتحديد الإنتاج، وخاصة خلال قمة العشرين التي جرت مؤخراً في الصين، فضلاً عن تأثير سوق النفط الصخري في الولايات المتحدة على أسواق النفط الخام في المستقبل، وهذا ما يؤكد وجود الكثير من التحديات الصعبة أمام القطاع البحري في منطقة الشرق الأوسط حالياً".

ومن المتوقع أن يشهد مؤتمر ومعرض سيتريد الشرق الأوسط للقطاع البحري مشاركة أكثر من 7000 شخص من 67 دولة. وسيناقش هذا الحدث أبرز جوانب التحديات الحالية للسوق وتوفير نظرة عن كثب على أبرز المشاريع مثل توسيع قناة السويس في مصر، إلى جانب سلسلة من المنتديات بالتعاون مع "IMarEST".

Affordable Solar Energy is a driving force of Middle East innovation

Intersolar Middle East exhibitors state low solar energy costs enable them to develop technologies in the region

20 September, Dubai – Falling solar energy costs are driving innovation and the creation of new intelligent energy systems for managing solar energy in the Middle East, according to participants at the 2016 Intersolar Middle East at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Day two of the action packed Intersolar Middle East saw Ben Hill, Vice President of Tesla Energy, deliver a keynote presentation on the future of energy storage and how batteries can revolutionise the solar industry.

Visitors were also delighted in entering an exclusive competition to experience the Middle East’s first electric car - which is powered by energy, ahead of the pioneering Emirates Tesla electric vehicle road trip (EVRT). 

“Technology has proven to be a key driver in bringing costs down and efficiencies up, and has enabled utilities companies to leverage the power of the sun in their energy mix.” said Fadi Nassif, Director for Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey at GE Power Conversion.

“In line with this trend, we’re preparing to launch next generation technology inverters that will support utilities in the Middle East with even higher efficiency and reliability,” he said.

Over the past 80 years GE has built a reputable position in the MENA region driving its infrastructure development, and is now extending its advance suite of solar solutions in leveraging solar power efficiency.

As the host for Intersolar Middle East, Dubai has been at the forefront of efforts to reduce solar energy costs. It made headlines earlier this year when announcing that is building a massive 800-megawatt solar plant that will produce electricity at an average cost of just 2.99 cents a kilowatt hour, substantially below what even coal-fired power plants charge.

Beyond Dubai, the 2016 Bloomberg New Energy Outlook expects that zero-emission energy sources will make up 60 percent of installed capacity by 2040. Wind and solar will also account for 64 percent of the 8.6TW of new power generating capacity added worldwide over the next 25 years, and for almost 60 percent of the US$11.4 trillion being invested.

“As the world contends with growing demand for electricity, volatile fuel costs, and climate change concerns, renewable energy resources such as solar power are playing a larger role in the search for energy solutions. GE is using its expertise and industry leadership to deliver solar energy solutions able to offer both performance and reliability,” Nassif said.

Intersolar Middle East welcomes government, business, and industry leaders to attend the three days solar energy exhibition. A senior official at Austrian solar technology manufacturer, Fronius, has said that smart energy distribution systems can help drive costs down even further.

“Fronius is leading the way by developing solutions that are bringing us closer to our goal of 24-hours of sun,” said Martin Hackl, Head of the Solar Energy Division at Fronius.

“To make this vision reality we need to be able to generate, store, distribute and consume renewable energy efficiently and intelligently - particularly solar energy,” explained Hackl.

The MENA region solar industry is developing at such a fast-pace, keeping up to date with latest global technology will help elevate their progression in terms of storage, distribution and maintenance. This time comes shortly after the launch of Fronius 24 hours of sun campaign, focusing on the goal of the world’s energy being generated purely by renewable resources. For them to make this vision a reality renewable energy companies must understand fully how to generate, store, distribute and consume this energy efficiently.  In this bid, the sun and its solar energy plays a key role with all major countries in the region taking advantage.

GCC Financial Technology (FinTech) startups are cashing in on the always-connected banking habits of Millennials, industry experts announced today in the build-up to GITEX 2016.

There is a surge in growth of “moneyhawks” - the high-income, and under-35-year-old customers who want constant mobile access to their banking and finance accounts.

Banks often struggle to profit from their customers. The bottom 28 percent of customers give a 22 percent profit loss, due to cashing checks at branches or not paying back loans. Moneyhawks are only 16 percent of banks’ customers, but generate the majority of profit, especially from digital payments, according to the Database Marketing Institute.

Millennials in the UAE are a key target for banks. About 60 percent of the population is under 25 years old, and the GDP per capita is over USD 48,000, the second-highest in the Middle East and North Africa, according to a recent report by the Kuwait Financial Center, Markaz.

“UAE Millennials do not want to wait at bank branches – they want constant, secure, and easy access to their banking and financial from their mobile devices. As a result, more banks are establishing partnerships with FinTech startups, which can drive digital payment innovation with a more agile mindset,” said Abdirizak Ibrahim Salah, Co-Founder of Trriple, a UAE-based digital payments startup.

Global investors are pouring money into FinTech firms. Investment grew by 75 percent from USD 13 billion in 2014 to USD 22 billion by 2015, according to a recent Accenture report. 

At last year’s GITEX, Trriple launched as a company and signed a partnership with Ericsson on mobile wallet solutions in banking and Smart Cities. Trriple returns this year to showcase digital payment innovations, and exhibit alongside FinTech startups at the GITEX Startup Movement.

“Cash represents 75 percent of the UAE’s total payments – leading to a fragmented payment space for consumers, businesses, and banks. Innovative FinTech startups can use mobile apps to transform the UAE consumer payments space, leading to a cashless society by 2018,” added Abdirizak Ibrahim Salah.

At GITEX Technology Week 2016, Trriple will exhibit in Hall 6, along with their partner ecosystem.

قال خبراء في تقنية المعلومات اليوم إن الشركات الناشئة العاملة في مجال التقنيات المالية في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي بدأت تستفيد من العادات المصرفية التي يمارسها أبناء جيل الألفية. جاء ذلك على خلفية الاستعدادات الجارية لإقامة حدث أسبوع جيتكس للتقنية 2016.

وثمّة زيادة، وفق الخبراء، في نمو عملاء البنوك من الشباب ذوي الدخل المرتفع الذين تقل سنّهم عن 35 عاماً والحريصين على البقاء على اتصال بحساباتهم المصرفية أثناء التنقل، يساعدهم في ذلك ولعهم بالتقنيات الحديثة، وهم المعروفون بمصطلح "صقور المال" Moneyhawks.

وغالباً ما تبذل البنوك جهوداً حثيثة لتحقيق الأرباح من عملائها؛ إذ إن الشريحة الدنيا من شرائح عملاء البنوك والبالغ حجمها 28 بالمئة من العملاء تتسبّب في تحقيق خسائر في الأرباح قدرها 22 بالمئة، نظراً لصرف الشيكات في الفروع بدل إيداعها في الحسابات البنكية أو بسبب العجز عن سداد مستحقات القروض. كما أن شريحة "صقور المال" التي لا تزيد نسبتها عن 16 بالمئة من عملاء البنوك، تساهم في تحقيق الجزء الأكبر من الأرباح، خصوصاً جراء عمليات الدفع الإلكتروني، وفقاً لدراسة أعدها معهد "داتابيز ماركتينغ".

ويشكّل أبناء جيل الألفية في الإمارات هدفاً رئيسياً للبنوك في الدولة؛ إذ إن نحو 60 بالمئة من السكان تقل سنّهم عن 25 سنة، كما أن الناتج المحلي الإجمالي للفرد الواحد يزيد عن 48,000 دولار، وهو ثاني أعلىمستوى في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، وفقاً لتقرير صدر حديثاً عن المركز المالي الكويتي.

وقال عبد الرزاق إبراهيم صلاح الشريك المؤسس لدى "تريبل"، الشركة المختصة بالتقنيات المالية والتي تتخذ من دولة الإمارات مقراً، إن الشباب من أبناء جيل الألفية في دولة الإمارات لا يريدون الانتظار في فروع البنوك لإنجاز معاملاتهم، وإنما يرغبون بالتمتع بإمكانية الوصول الدائم والآمن والسهل إلى حساباتهم المصرفية من أجهزتهم المحمولة، مضيفاً أن مزيداً من البنوك، نتيجة لذلك، "بدأت تعمل على إبرام علاقات شراكة مع شركات ناشئة متخصصة في مجال التقنيات المالية، ما من شأنه تحريك عجلة الابتكار في مجال الدفع الرقمي بعقلية أكثر مرونة".

ويواصل المستثمرون العالميون ضخّ أموال في شركات التقنيات المالية، فقد ارتفعت الاستثمارات في هذه الشركات بنسبة 75 بالمئة، من 13 مليار دولار في العام 2014 إلى حوالي 22 مليار دولار في 2015، وفقاً لتقرير حديث صدر عن شركة أكسنتشر للاستشارات.

وكانت "تريبل"، التي أطلقت أعمالها خلال الدورة الماضية من معرض جيتكس، أبرمت شراكة مع شركة إريكسون تحت مظلة الحدث تتعلّق بحلول المحفظة المتنقلة في قطاعي الأعمال المصرفية والمدن الذكية. ومن المنتظر أن تعود الشركة هذا العام لعرض أحدث ابتكاراتها في مجال الدفع الرقمي عبر مشاركتها في فعالية "حراك الشركات الناشئة" المقرّرة فيالمعرض، إلى جانب شركات ناشئة أخرى متخصصة في المجال ذاته.

وأشار صلاح إلى أن النقد يمثل 75 بالمئة من إجمالي المدفوعات في دولة الإمارات، معتبراً أن ذلك يؤدي إلى إيجاد "مساحات دفع مجزأة بين المستهلكين والشركات والبنوك"، وانتهى إلى القول: "بوسع الشركات الناشئة الحريصة على الابتكار استخدام التطبيقات التنقلية في إحداث التحوّل الرقمي في المساحة المخصصة لمدفوعات المستهلكين في الإمارات، ما قد يؤدي إلى إيجاد مجتمع غير معتمد على النقد بحلول العام 2018".

جدير بالذكر أن "تريبل" تشارك بأسبوع جيتكس للتقنية 2016 في القاعة (6) إلى جانب شريكتها "إكوسيستيمز".
