The Mercurys, the world’s most influential awards in travel catering, to take place on 5th December in Abu Dhabi as the value of in-flight catering set to reach US$18 billion by 2020; winners will be announced at glittering gala dinner at Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat al Beri
SIAL 2016, the region’s fastest-growing professional trade exhibition for the food, beverage and hospitality industries, will return to Abu Dhabi where it will once again host the world’s leading supply companies to the airline catering sector, during the 35th edition of The Mercurys.
SIAL, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, is taking from 5-7 December 2016 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The awards will be taking place at a glittering gala dinner on 5th December at Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat al Beri in Abu Dhabi, with the awards an integral part of the 7th edition of SIAL Middle East 2016.
“The Mercurys were launched in 1982 and are designed to recognise and reward innovation within the travel food industry, they are among the most sought after accolade for those in the airline catering business,” said Thamer Al Qasemi, chairman of the organising committee of SIAL Middle East 2016. “Judged by a panel of independent experts, the awards recognise the very best in on-board catering with five main award categories spanning airline meals, service, general on-board food and beverages and equipment.”
Companies competing at this year’s event include Green Gourmet Ltd., German Bakery Company GmbH, Kaelis Onboard Services, RMT Global Partners, Perth Inflight Catering, Emirates Modern Poulty Co LLC and Monty’s Bakehouse, amongst others.
Research by Global Industry Analysts has attributed the growth in air passenger traffic and new effervescent service innovations by airline companies as the driving force behind an annual 5% growth. This growth is set to result in growth of the global inflight catering industry to US$18 billion by 2020.
The Middle East is forecast to grow strongly (by 4.9%) with an extra 237 million passengers a year on routes to, from and within the region according to the International Air Transport Association. The UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia will experience robust growth of 5.6%, 4.8%, and 4.6% respectively with a total market size of 383 million passengers.
Speaking ahead of the event, head judge, chef, airline catering consultant and writer, Jeremy Clark said:
“The GCC leads the world when it comes to aviation sector expansion and innovation and, with passenger volumes continuing to rise, supported by regional carrier fleet expansion and ambitious network programmes, this is fueling demand for onboard catering services and providing an attractive target market for many mainstream food manufacturers.”
SIAL 2016 will feature more than 900 exhibitors, 500 VIP hosted buyers, and 22,000 food, beverage and hospitality visitors with an impressive 36% of visitors from the foodservice and HORECA sectors. Attendees will enjoy three days of business, networking and knowledge sharing, with access to niche conferences and innovative show floor events.

يستضيف معرض سيال الشرق الأوسط 2016، الحدث المتخصص في مجال الأغذية والمشروبات والضيافة، الشهر المقبل مجموعة كبيرة من أبرز الشركات الرائدة في مجال تموين السفر على مستوى العالم مع عودة الدورة الـ 35 لجوائز "ميركوريز" المرموقة مجدداً إلى مدينة أبوظبي.
وتمثل هذه الجوائز أبرز فعاليات الدورة السابعة لمعرض سيال الذي ينعقد تحت رعاية كريمة من صاحب السَمو الشيخ منصور بن زايد آل نهيان، نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير شؤون الرئاسة، رئيس مجلس إدارة جهاز أبوظبي للرقابة الغذائية؛ خلال الفترة ما بين 5-7 ديسمبر 2016 في مركز أبوظبي الوطني للمعارض (أدنيك) حيث سيتم تنظيم حفل توزيع الجوائز يوم الاثنين 5 ديسمبر 2016، في فندق شانغريلا قرية البري في أبوظبي.
وقال ثامر القاسمي، رئيس اللجنة المنظمة لمعرض سيال الشرق الأوسط عام 2016: "تعد جوائز "ميركوريز" من أبرز الجوائز المرموقة الرامية إلى تسليط الضوء على إنجازات الشركات العاملة في مجال تموين قطاع الطيران حيث ستشرف على عملية التحكيم لجنة من الخبراء المستقلين لتحديد وفرز الفائزين ضمن خمس فئات رئيسية تغطي مختلف جوانب وجبات شركات الطيران، والخدمات، والأغذية والمشروبات على متن الطائرات، فضلاً عن المعدات".
وتشمل قائمة الشركات المتنافسة هذا العام كلاً من "جرين جورميه" و"جيرمان بيكيري كومباني" و"كايليس أونبورد سيرفيسز" و"آر إم تي جلوبال بارتنرز" و"بيرث إنفلايت كيتيرينغ" و"إيماريتس مودرن بولتري" و"مونتي بيكهاوس" وغيرها الكثير.
وقد أشار تقرير متخصص إلى أن نمو حجم حركة السفر العالمية بالإضافة إلى الابتكارات الجديدة لشركات الطيران في مجال الخدمة يمثل أهم العوامل الرئيسية لتحقيق معدل نمو سنوي يبلغ 5٪. ومن المتوقع أن يسهم هذا النمو في ارتفاع قيمة قطاع تموين السفر العالمي لتصل إلى 18 مليار دولار بحلول عام 2020.
ومن المتوقع أن تشهد منطقة الشرق الأوسط نمواً بنسبة 4.9٪ مع توقعات بتسجيل 237 مليون مسافر إضافي سنوياً من المنطقة وداخلها، وذلك وفقاً لبيانات اتحاد النقل الجوي الدولي. وستشهد دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وقطر والمملكة العربية السعودية نمواً قوياً بنسبة 5.6٪ و4.8٪ و4.6٪ مع وصول إجمالي حجم السوق إلى 383 مليون مسافر.
من جانبه قال جيريمي كلارك، الطاهي والكاتب والمستشار في مجال خدمات تموين قطاع السفر، ورئيس لجنة تحكيم جوائز "ميركوريز": "تعتبر دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي من أهم المناطق على مستوى العالم في مجال توسع قطاع الطيران والابتكار؛ كما ستشهد المنطقة مزيداً من الارتفاع في أعداد المسافرين بالإضافة إلى التوسع في حجم أسطول وشبكات الناقلات الإقليمية، وهذا ما يساهم بالتالي في تعزيز الطلب على خدمات تقديم الطعام على متن الطائرات، والارتقاء بمكانة هذه السوق كوجهة جذابة للعديد من مصنعي المواد الغذائية".
ويستضيف معرض سيال الشرق الأوسط، الحدث الأسرع نمواً في المنطقة في مجال قطاع الأغذية والمشروبات والضيافة، أكثر من 900 جهة عارضة و500 من المشترين المستضافين، كما سيجذب 22 ألف زائر من التجار وأهل الإختصاص على مدى ثلاثة أيام للاستفادة من الفرص التي يوفرها المعرض للتواصل وتبادل المعرفة والمشاركة في مجموعة من المؤتمرات المتخصصة والأحداث المبتكرة.
