Middle East and North Africa’s first
driverless electric pods for public transport are expected to hit the road in
Dubai within a year
Cairo, October 31, 2016 – Committed to transforming the transportation
sector through innovation and industry-leading technology, Careem, the region’s
leading app based car booking service, recently unveiled its driverless pods in
partnership with NEXT Future Transportation Inc.
The pods were
showcased at GITEX 2016, the Middle East and Africa’s largest, annual
technology exhibition, and are expected to hit the road within a year in Dubai.
The emirate will serve as a tester market before Careem looks to roll out the
pods in other cities across the region.
The launch of
the driverless electric pods for public transportation is set to reinforce the
region’s position as a thriving hub for innovation, especially at a time when
economies in MENA and beyond sharpen their focus on driving long-term growth
through the launch of smart initiatives.
The pods are
electric, driverless and can move individually or by attaching themselves to
other pods, to form a bus-like structure, allowing passengers to move freely
from one pod to another. These self-driving pods are designed to operate as a
mass transportation system whereby passengers can conveniently be picked up on
demand and dropped off to different locations, as the pods link and detach
accordingly, creating an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly mode of
transportation.

Careem, which
has enjoyed early success in delivering luxury rides to millions of customers
since its launch in 2012, recently partnered with Dubai’s Road Transportation Authority
(RTA) to make public transportation such as taxis, more accessible by
eventually making it available on their apps.

المركبات
ستُطرح في طرقات دبي لفترة تجريبية قبل إطلاقها في أسواق المنطقة
القاهرة ٣١ اكتوبر ٢٠١٦ – كشفت شركة "كريم"،
الرائدة في مجال خدمات حجز السيارات عبر التطبيق الإلكتروني، مؤخراً عن إطلاقها
خدمة المركبات الكهربائية ذاتية القيادة بالشراكة مع "نيكست فيوتشر
ترانسبورتيشن". وتأتي هذه الخطوة تماشياً مع التزام الشركة في تحقيق نقلة
نوعية في قطاع المواصلات بالاعتماد على الابتكار والتكنولوجيا.
وقد عُرضت هذه المركبات خلال
أسبوع جايتكس للتقنية 2016، المعرض التكنولوجي السنوي الأكبر في منطقة الشرق
الأوسط وإفريقيا. ومن المتوقع أن تشهد طرقات دبي إطلاق المركبات خلال عام لفترة
تجريبية قبل طرحها في المدن الأخرى في المنطقة.
وسيساهم إطلاق المركبات
الكهربائية ذاتية القيادة لاستخدامها في المواصلات العامة في تعزيز مكانة المنطقة
كمركز مزدهر للأفكار والخدمات المبتكرة، وخاصة مع تركيز الاقتصادات في منطقة الشرق
الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وفي المناطق الأخرى على دفع عجلة النمو على المدى الطويل من
خلال إطلاق المبادرات الذكية.
ويمكن
لهذه المركبات الكهربائية التنقل من دون سائق سواء منفردة أو بصورة متصلة لتشكّل
ما يشبه الحافلة، متيحةً للركاب إمكانية التنقل بحرية بين المركبات. وقد صُممت هذه
المركبات لتشكّل وسيلةً جديدةً للنقل العام، حيث يمكن للمستخدمين طلبها للمرور بهم
وتوصيلهم إلى مواقع مختلفة، كما يمكن لهذه المركبات أن تتّصل وتنفصل عن بعضها البعض
وفقاً للمسار، مشكّلةً بذلك وسيلة تنقّلٍ فعّالة وآمنة وصديقةً للبيئة في الوقت
ذاته.

والعلاقات الحكومية في

وقد نجحت كريم في تقديم وسيلة نقلٍ مميّزة لملايين
العملاء منذ تأسيسها في عام 2012. وعقدت مؤخّراً شراكة مع هيئة الطرق والمواصلات
في دبي لتسهيل استخدام سيارات الأجرة من خلال التطبيق الإلكتروني.
