THE PHOTOGRAPHIC GALLERY AT AUC TO HOST “INDELIBLE” EXHIBITION BY RANDA SHAATH

 


WHAT
A photographic exhibition, “Indelible” by photographer Randa Shaath, organized by The Photographic Gallery at The American University in Cairo (AUC).
The exhibition is Shaath’s work of the last two years where she takes her camera inside the homes of family and friends and acknowledges ordinary and familiar objects, moments, and spaces that we often overlook, granting them a grace that evokes the people that breathe life into them asking the question “when does one feel at home?” 
Shaath is a Cairo-based photographer. She received her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota, School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 1987. She is currently teaching photography at AUC. She was the Photo editor of Al-Shorouk daily newspaper in Egypt from 2008 till April 2014. She has also worked as a photographer and graphic designer for children’s books, photographer for Al-Ahram Weekly from 1994-2005 and served on the editorial board of Zawaya an arts and culture magazine.
Shaath’s work is exhibited in Egypt and abroad including Fondation Tapies, Barcelona, Aperture and The International Center of Photography in New York. She represented Egypt at the Biennale de São Paulo in 2006. She published three monographs: Watani ala Marma Haggar 1988Misr Umm el Dunia 1990 and Under the Same Sky; Cairo 2003.
