Companies to lead contributions to better climate future during COP21 in Paris (7-8 December 2015)

What:
On 7-8 December, the largest business coalition for climate change will convene the third annual Caring for Climate Business Forum at COP21 in Paris. Organized by the UN Global Compact, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the secretariat of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the event is backed by 400 CEOs in 65 countries and is the official avenue for business at COP.

The Forum is the opportunity to advance the climate change agenda, highlighting commitments around concrete solutions such as carbon pricing, responsible policy engagement, adaptation and science-based target setting. Over 700 participants from business, finance, government, civil society and the UN are expected to attend. CEOs and representatives from major companies such as Mars Inc., Unilever, Acciona, Siemens, BASF, Abengoa and L’OREAL.

The event will be opened by high-level speakers including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; COP21 President and France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius; and the UN’s top climate change official Christiana Figueres.

Day One (7 December, 9:00-18:00, open to media): will feature plenary and thematic sessions on the topics of carbon pricing, science-based target setting, responsible policy engagement, adaptation and finance.

Day Two (8 December, 13:00-15:00, open to media): the high-level meeting is the focus area business event under the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (see http://newsroom.unfccc.int/lpaa/). The meeting will put forward an overview of all commitments and contributions by business and investors towards COP21, and will close with a focused discussion on pricing the cost of carbon emissions.

Press Conference (8 December, 12:00-12:45, TBC, open to media): will feature company announcements and commitments to action on topics from carbon pricing to responsible policy engagement.

Deadline for Media Accreditation:  Friday, 20 November 2015.

Media access to the Caring for Climate Forum will require 1) COP21/CMP11 media accreditation and 2) registration for the event. 

1.COP21/CMP11Media Accreditation:
Requests for media accreditation must be submitted through the UNFCCC online media accreditation and registration system. Online accreditation is the official channel to obtain registration for the media for a conference or event.

2. Forum Registration:
In addition to receiving accreditation, all media must register for the event by emailing the UN Global Compact Office at media@unglobalcompact.org with your name, role and media organization. Please indicate any broadcasting equipment you will bring and register early to avoid wait times at the Forum.
