Miele to showcase cost, environmental and safety benefits of reprocessing in oil industry laboratories at Arab Lab Exhibit – helps reduce energy and Dubai landfill waste
Miele Professional is showcasing a range of products at this year’s Arab Laboratory exhibition, which opened yesterday (Monday 23rd March) at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre. Once again particular emphasis is being placed on their advanced laboratory washers, especially for the petrochemical sector, which address environmental issues.
“The environmental impact of reprocessing is far-reaching, particularly for glassware. In 2013 Dubai sent 2.6 million tonnes of waste to landfill, an estimated 15-25% of which was laboratory waste comprising of glass and other hazardous material. Reprocessing of glassware negates the need for recycling but also contributes to the overall reduction in industrial energy use,” said Babak Rashnavadi, Regional Sales Manager, Gulf Region of Miele Professional.
Petroleum is the world's most complex natural mixture and one of the most challenging samples for chemical analysis. It is also one of the most difficult properties to effectively and efficiently clean off glassware and the reason why so many laboratories in the oil industry simply discard glassware after a single use.
Research by the US Energy Information Administration highlighted glass manufacturing as amongst the most energy-intensive industries. Through reprocessing glassware annual fuel costs, electricity costs and water costs could be reduced by US$1.5 million alone in the US, while simultaneously reducing their environmental impact – issues that businesses in the Middle East are all too familiar with. Dubai is on the cusp of introducing new fees increasing its current tariff of AED10 per truck load of waste, Abu Dhabi already charges AED 225 per tonne.
“The need for reprocessing glass has never been more crucial particularly when you consider Dubai’s target of zero landfill waste and a reduction in energy consumption of 30 per cent by 2030,” added Rashnavadi.
Miele’s advanced engineering features shorter cleaning times, reduced water consumption, self-cleaning, specialised detergents specifically created to remove petroleum compounds, optional built-in dryer system and service friendly designs all illustrate the new range’s sustainability and efficiency message.
“Many laboratories have already seen the benefits of our machine-based reprocessing of glassware with ADNOC and the National Gas Company both maximising the benefits of the washers. Not only do our machines provide superior technology – Miele washers circulate 156 gallons per minute of water, typical lab washers only generate 60 gallons per minute – automatic reprocessing cuts down on work and reduces costs.
“Our lab washers ensure zero glassware breakage due to the circulation of water at lower pressure whilst still delivering best in category cleaning results. By negating the need for laboratory staff to manually clean glassware, we are not only avoiding the risk of breakage, hazards to staff are also reduced. Automatic, machine-based processes are also more easily standardised, validated and documented while offering maximum protection to personnel,” said Rashnavadi.
Top Miele Lab washers have been awarded the iF-design award and the Essen Design Centre reddot award, both highly coveted awards in Miele’s native Germany. The sterilisation and disinfector products on show at the four-day event are CE certified and endorsed by Germany’s Robert Koch Institute, the government organisation responsible for disease control and prevention.
Started over 30 years ago, ArabLab has been one of the most influential laboratory and instrumentation events, featuring equipment from all the leading manufacturers in the world and is now recognised as one of the most important annual events of the year.

تشارك "ميلي بروفيشينال"، احدى الشركات الألمانية الرائدة المتخصصة في تصنيع الأدوات المنزلية و الطبية ، في معرض عرب لاب 2015، أحد أهم فعاليات المختبرات و الأجهزة الطبية الأكثر تأثيراَ في العالم ، الذي انطلقت فعالياته الأثنين (23 مارس ) في دبي حيث تعرض أحدث منتجاتها في مجال المختبرات الطبية الخاصة في قطاع البتروكيماويات.
وقال باباك راشنافادي، مدير مبيعات ميلي بروفيشنال في المنطقة :"في عام 2013 تم اتلاف 2.6 مليون طن من النفايات الطبية في دبي، و تضم هذه النفايات ما يقارب 15 الى 25 في المائة من المواد الزجاجية و المواد الخطرة التي تستخدم في المختبرات الطبية، و نحن رأينا اهمية اعادة معالجة هذه النفايات على المدى البعيد، حيث تساهم هذه العملية في تخفيض شامل في استخدام الطاقة الصناعية".
يشار الى أن البترول هو الخليط الطبيعي الأكثر تعقيداَ في العالم و أحد العينات العنيدة للتحلل الكيميائي، كما أنه يضم الخصائص الأكثر صعوبة للتنظيف في الأواني الزجاجية، مما يؤدي الى اتلاف هذه المعدات عند استخدامها في المختبرات الطبية.
و أظهرت تقارير الصادرة عن مديرية المعلومات و الطاقة الأمريكية، بأنه من الممكن خفض تكاليف الانتاج بنسبة 1.5 مليون دولار امريكي في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وحدها عند اعادة تدوير الأواني الزجاجية في المختبرات الطبية، بالاضافة الى التأثير الايجابي على البيئة، و تعمل الامارات حالياَ على خفض عملية المخلفات الطبية من خلال فرض تعرفة تبلغ 10 دراهم لحمولة الشاحنة في دبي، و تفرض أبوظبي رسوماَ تبلغ 225 درهما للطن الواحد من النفايات.
وقال راشنافادي: "ان الحاجة الى اعادة تدوير و معالجة الزجاج تتزايد يوماَ بعد يوم لمواكبة مبادرة دبي للحد من استهلاك الطاقة بنسبة 30 في المائة بحلول عام 2030".
و عمل مهندسي ميلي على خفض استهلاك المياه في عملية التنظيف و انشاء منظفات آلية خصيصاَ لازالة مركبات البترول، و دمج نظام التجفيف مع خدمات التصاميم الصديقة للأستدامة.
وأضاف راشنافادي:" تشهد العديد من المختبرات على كفاءة منتجاتنا في تنظيف الزجاج، حيث نوفر لكل من أدنوك و شركة الغاز الوطنية غسالات ميلي و التي تدور 156 جالوناَ من المياه في الدقيقة الواحدة، و توفر غسالات المختبر النموذجية 60 جالوناَ في الدقيقة الواحدة، مما تساهم في خفض التكاليف و اعادة المعالجة التلقائية، و تعمل منتجاتنا على عدم كسر الأواني الزجاجية بسبب الدورة المائية و قلة الضغط بجانب تقديمها أفضل نتائج التنظيف".
و قد حصلت غسالات ميلي للمختبرات على جائزة "أي اف" للتصميم و جائزة ريدوت من مركز ايسن للتصميم في المانيا، و هي معتمدة من قبل معهد روبرت كوخ الألماني، الجهة الحكومية المسؤولة عن مكافحة الأمراض و الوقاية منها.
