The majority of information technology decision makers in the UAE believe that their organizations were victims of cyber attacks in the last 12 months, and almost all of them expect to be targeted again in 2015, a recent survey commissioned by Bit9+Carbon Black, the leader in endpoint threat prevention, detection and response, showed.
About 86 per cent of organizations polled by Vanson Bourne, an independent specialist in market research for the technology sector, suspect that their systems were breached in 2014, with 96 per cent of them saying that they could be likely targeted again at any point over the next 12 months. All respondents have either full or partial responsibility for their organizations’ IT security, and are with organizations having at least 500 employees.
A variety of attackers launch their assault for diverse reasons, but the respondents expect that their organizations are more likely to be targeted by corporate competitors (45 per cent); be attacked in order to be sabotaged (33 per cent); and have their intellectual property (IP) stolen (36 per cent).
Only a small portion of those polled, however, showed confidence in the ability of their systems to fight off possible online threats. The survey results revealed that only seven per cent of the respondents are completely confident in their companies’ anti-virus solutions, while only five per cent rate their organizations’ detection abilities as excellent.
The results further disclosed slow response times to online breaches. Most respondents (71 per cent) report that it takes more than 30 minutes to identify where malware has been introduced into the IT environment, while many of them (72 per cent) say it takes more than 30 minutes to respond to a malware incident.
When asked what aspects of their organizations are the most vulnerable to cyber attacks, the respondents perceive mobile devices (31 per cent) and infrastructure servers (24 per cent) as the most susceptible.

Bit9+Carbon Black commissioned the survey to shine a light on the cyber threat mindset of organizations in the region and help companies determine if they have the best endpoint security solution in place to protect their information, including customer data, from theft or destruction.
The study aims to provide a better understanding of the benefits of adapting powerful detection and response cyber security solutions for IT decision makers, CEOs, managing directors and enterprise owners. It also has the objective of helping understand the involvement of the respondents in huge projects such as ‘Smart City’ and ‘Smart Government,’ and how crucial it is to have a proficient cyber security system to protect enterprises from costly attacks.

أشارت دراسة أجريت مؤخراً بتكليف من "بت9 + كاربون بلاك"، الشركة الرائدة في مجال الحد من تهديدات نقاط الاتصال والكشف عنها ومعالجتها، إلى أن غالبية صناع القرار في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات في دولة الإمارات يعتقدون بأن مؤسساتهم كانت عرضة للهجمات الإلكترونية على مدى الإثني عشر شهراً الماضية، كما يتوقع جميعهم تقريباً أن يتم استهداف مؤسساتهم مرة أخرى خلال العام الجاري.
وتعتقد نحو 86% من المؤسسات التي استطلعت آراؤها من قبل "فانسون بورن"، وهي شركة مستقلة مختصة بأبحاث السوق الخاصة بقطاع التكنولوجيا، أنه قد تم اختراق نظمها خلال العام الماضي، فيما أشارت 96% من هذه المؤسسات إلى أنه من المرجّح أن يتم استهدافها ثانيةً خلال الإثني عشر شهراً المقبلة. ويتولى جميع من استطلعت آراؤهم مسؤولية كاملة أو جزئية في مجال أمن تكنولوجيا المعلومات في مؤسساتهم، التي تضم كل منها 500 موظفاً على الأقل.
ويقوم المخترقون بإطلاق هجومهم لأسباب متنوعة، إلا أن 45% من المشاركين في الاستطلاع يتوقعون أن تكون مؤسساتهم أكثر عرضة للإستهداف من قبل شركات أخرى منافسة؛ فيما يرى 33% أنها تتعرض للهجوم بغرض التخريب، و36% يرون أنها تتعرض للهجوم لأجل سرقة حقوق الملكية الفكرية.
ولم يبدي سوى قلة من المشاركين في هذه الدراسة ثقتهم بقدرة أنظمتهم على التصدي للتهديدات الإلكترونية المحتملة، حيث كشفت النتائج أن 7% فقط ممن استطلعت آراؤهم واثقون تماماً من حلول مكافحة الفيروسات المعتمدة في شركاتهم، فيما رأى 5% فقط أن قدرات الحماية في شركاتهم هي ذات مستوى ممتاز.
كما كشفت نتائج الدراسة عن بطء عملية التجاوب مع الخروقات الإلكترونية، حيث أفاد معظم من استطلعت آراؤهم (71%) بأن الأمر يستغرق أكثر من 30 دقيقة لتحديد مكان وجود البرمجيات الخبيثة ضمن بيئة تكنولوجيا المعلومات، فيما قال العديد منهم (72%) بأن الأمر يستغرق أكثر من 30 دقيقة للتعامل مع خروقات البرمجيات الخبيثة.
وعندما تم سؤالهم عن الجوانب الأكثر عرضة للهجمات الإلكترونية في مؤسساتهم، أفاد المشاركون في الدراسة أن الأجهزة النقالة (31%) وخوادم البنية التحتية (24%) هي الأكثر عرضة لهذه الهجمات.
وقال هاري سفيردلوف، مدير قسم التكنولوجيا في شركة "بت9 + كاربون بلاك": "توضح الدراسة بجلاء أن معظم المؤسسات معرضة للاستهداف، ولذلك فهي بحاجة إلى تعزيز وتحسين قدراتها في مجال أمن المعلومات باستمرار. وتتعرض الشركات من مختلف الأحجام إلى الهجمات الإلكترونية، الأمر الذي يؤدي غالباً إلى سرقة المعلومات السرية ويتسبب بخسائر مالية كبيرة والتأثير على مكانة وسمعة هذه الشركات. ولأن الحلول التقليدية لحماية نقاط الاتصال، مثل برامج مكافحة الفيروسات، غير كافية لمواجهة التهديدات والهجمات المتطورة اليوم، فإننا نركز من جانبنا على تزويد عملائنا بجيل جديد من الحلول الشاملة لحماية نقاط الاتصال من أجل اكتشاف الهجمات المتزايدة والمتطورة التي تستهدف مؤسساتهم والحد من هذه الهجمات ومعالجتها".
وأجريت هذه الدراسة بتكليف من شركة "بت9 + كاربون بلاك" بهدف تسليط الضوء على آراء المؤسسات في المنطقة فيما يتعلق بالتهديدات الأمنية الإلكترونية ومساعدة الشركات على تحديد فيما إذا كانت تمتلك أفضل حلول حماية نقاط الاتصال لحماية معلوماتها، بما في ذلك بيانات العملاء، من السرقة أو التخريب.
وتهدف الدراسة إلى توفير فهم أفضل لمزايا وفوائد تبني حلول أمنية قوية للكشف عن الهجمات الإلكترونية ومعالجتها بالنسبة لصناع القرار في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات والمديرين التنفيذيين والمديرين العامين وأصحاب المؤسسات. كما تهدف الدراسة إلى المساعدة على معرفة مدى مشاركة من استطلعت آراؤهم في مشاريع ضخمة مثل "المدينة الذكية" و"الحكومة الذكية"، ومدى أهمية أن يكون هناك نظام فعال للأمن الإلكتروني لحماية الشركات من الهجمات التي تتسبب بخسائر فادحة.
