Ultra luxury is alive and well in the UK with six suites included on the list located in the UK – and all of them are in London, to be exact, more than any other city in the world.

The most expensive suite out of the six London-based properties is the Royal Suite at the InterContinental London Park Lane, coming in at a cool £10,000 per night.  The suites at the other five properties are a relative bargain in comparison:

Royal Suite, InterContinental London Park Lane, at £10,000 per night
Penthouse Suite, the Wellesley, at £6,600 / night
SuiteME, the ME London, at £6,000 / night
Cinema Suite, 51 Buckingham Gate, Taj Suites and Residences, at £5,255 / night
Dorchester Suite, The Dorchester, London, at £4,865 / night
Ebony Suite, the May Fair, London, at £2,000 / night

When looking at the full list, a night’s stay in each of the 101 hotel suites on the list would cost £541,851 and combined they take up over 416,000 square feet of space.  By comparison, the National Association of Home Builders reports the average American home is 2,700 square feet and costs $270,000.  Hotels report that typical length of stay varies from 10 days to three weeks depending on location and time of year.  Typical guests come from around the world, and the suites are popular with families, heads of state, royalty, celebrities, and elite business leaders.

The list is not necessarily comprised of only the most expensive suites.  According to Travel Editor Tova Syrowicz, “We are always looking for suites and villas that have just been opened or have not been publicized yet.”  Eighty percent are new suites in new hotels, new suites in existing hotels and seriously renovated suites.  The remaining 20 percent come from a panel of luxury travel agents and celebrities and existing suites in top hotels that haven’t made the list in previous years. Also included are villas that are part of hotel complexes.  In other words, high prices alone won’t get your hotel on the list, which is whittled down from over 400 nominations.

The list of Top 101 Suites is the cover story of the July/August 2013 issue of Elite Traveler, and is also available at Elitetraveler.com. (link to article).  Elite Traveler readers spend over £260,000 per household annually at luxury hotels and resorts making the subject very appropriate for the magazine.
