Cybercriminals Target Linux-based Systems with Ransomware and Cryptojacking Attacks

VMware report finds more than half of Cobalt Strike users are using the tool illicitly     PALO ALTO, Calif. – February 21, 2022 – As the most common cloud operating system, Linux is a core part of digital infrastructure and is quickly becoming an attacker’s ticket into a multi-cloud environment. Current malware countermeasures are mostly focused on addressing Windows-based threats, leaving many public and private cloud deployments vulnerable to attacks that target Linux-based workloads.   VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) has released a threat report titled “Exposing Malware in Linux-Based Multi-Cloud Environments.”(1) Key findings that detail how cybercriminals are using malware to target Linux-based operating systems include:   Ransomware is evolving to target host images used to spin workloads in virtualized environments; 89 percent of cryptojacking attacks use XMRig-related libraries; and More than half of Cobalt Strike users may be cybercriminals, or at least using Cobalt Strike illicitly.   “Cybercriminals are dramatically expanding their scope and adding malware that targets Linux-based operating systems to their attack toolkit in order to maximize their impact with as little effort as possible,” said Giovanni Vigna, senior director of threat intelligence at VMware. “Rather than infecting an endpoint and then navigating to a higher value target, cybercriminals have discovered that compromising a single server can deliver the massive payoff and access they’re looking for. Attackers view both public and private clouds as high-value targets due to the access they provide to critical infrastructure services and confidential data. Unfortunately, current malware countermeasures are mostly focused on addressing Windows-based threats, leaving many public and private cloud deployments vulnerable to attacks on Linux-based operating systems.”   As malware targeting Linux-based operating systems increases in both volume and complexity amid a rapidly changing threat landscape, organizations must place a greater priority on threat detection.   In this report, the VMware Threat Analysis Unit (TAU) analyzed the threats to Linux-based operating systems in multi-cloud environments: ransomware, cryptominers, and remote access tools.

تقرير «في إم وير» يكشف تعرض أداة الحماية الإلكترونية "كوبالت سترايك" الشهيرة للاستغلال في أنشطة غير مشروعة على يد أكثر من نصف مستخدميها

 

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة –21 فبراير 2022: نشرت شركة «في إم وير» (رمزها VMW في بورصة نيويورك)، اليوم نتائج تقريرها عن التهديدات الإلكترونية تحت عنوان "كشف أنشطة برمجيات الفدية في بيئات السحابة المتعددة العاملة بنظام لينوكس". وسلط التقرير الضوء على الأساليب التي ينتهجها المجرمون الإلكترونيون لنشر البرمجيات الخبيثة ضمن الأنظمة السحابية القائمة على نظام لينوكس Linux بغية سرقة مواردها وابتزاز القائمين عليها وتعدين العملات المشفرة.

 

ويعتبر نظام لينوكس العصب الأساسي لتشغيل البنى التحتية الرقمية ويشيع استخدامه بكثرة في إدارة أنظمة الحوسبة السحابية، ولذلك فقد أصبح هذا النظام المستهدف الأول بالهجمات الإلكترونية الرامية إلى اختراق الأنظمة السحابية، سيما أن غالبية تدابير مكافحة البرمجيات الخبيثة في الوقت الراهن تركز على التهديدات الإلكترونية ضد أنظمة التشغيل ويندوز، الأمر الذي يترك الكثير من أنظمة الحوسبة السحابية الخاصة والعامة معرضة للهجمات الإلكترونية التي تسعى إلى سرقة موارد الحوسبة التي يديرها نظام لينوكس.

 

وجاء من أبرز نتائج التقرير عن الهجمات الإلكترونية ضد الأنظمة السحابية العاملة بنظام لينوكس:

• تطور أسلوب عمل برمجيات الفدية واستهدافها لقوالب الأنظمة المضيفة التي تشرف بدورها على إدارة موارد الحوسبة في البيئات الافتراضية.
• اعتماد 89 بالمئة من الهجمات الخبيثة لتعدين العملات المشفرة على مكتبات برامجية تابعة لنظام التعدين المفتوح "إكس إم ريج" XMRig.
• أكثر من نصف مستخدمي أداة الحماية والاختبارات الأمنية الشهيرة "كوبالت سترايك" Cobalt Strike قد يكونون من المجرمين الإلكترونيين أو ممن يستغلونها لأغراض غير مشروعة بأقل تقدير.

 

وبهذه المناسبة، قال جيوفاني فيجنا، كبير مدراء معلومات التهديدات الإلكترونية لدى «في إم وير»: "يعمل المجرمون الإلكترونيون على توسيع نطاق أهدافهم بشكل كبير، مستغلين في الوقت ذاته برمجيات خبيثة متطورة قادرة على استهداف أنظمة التشغيل العاملة بنظام لينوكس، سعيا إلى تحقيق أكبر قدر من التأثير وبأقل جهد ممكن".

 

وأشار جيوفاني إلى التكتيكات الجديدة المتبعة في الهجمات ضد أنظمة الحوسبة السحابية وقال: "بدلا من قيامهم باختراق نقطة نهائية ومن ثم البحث عن هدف عالي القيمة، وجد المجرمون الإلكترونيون بأن اختراق نظام خادم واحد يستطيع أن يقدم المردود الكبير والنفاذ الواسع الذي يسعون إليه بالأصل، وأصبحوا ينظرون إلى بيئات السحابة العامة والخاصة باعتبارها أهداف عالية القيمة لما توفره من قدرة على النفاذ إلى الخدمات الحيوية في البنى التحتية والبيانات المحاطة بالسرية. وللأسف فإن تدابير مكافحة البرمجيات الخبيثة تركز بمعظمها على التهديدات التي تطال أنظمة ويندوز، تاركة الكثير من أنظمة السحابة العامة والخاصة المنتشرة عرضة للهجمات التي تستهدف أنظمة التشغيل القائمة على نظام لينوكس".

 

وفي ضوء ازدياد وتيرة هجمات برمجيات الفدية وتعقيداتها ضد أنظمة التشغيل القائمة على نظام لينوكس، يتوجب على الشركات إعطاء أولوية كبيرة للوسائل التي تستطيع كشف التهديدات الأمنية الإلكترونية.

 

وقد قامت وحدة تحليل التهديدات لدى شركة «في إم وير» بإجراء تحليل شامل للتهديدات الإلكترونية التي تستهدف أنظمة التشغيل لينوكس ضمن بيئات الحوسبة السحابية المتعددة، وهي برمجيات طلب الفدية وبرمجيات تعدين العملات المشفرة وأدوات النفاذ إلى الأنظمة عن بُعد.

Trimble’s Tekla Structures reduces design complexities of the Museum of the Future

 

Project achieves accurate design and detail with Tekla Structures

Dubai’s Museum of the Future, set to open on February 22, 2022, was built using advanced construction technologies and software, including Trimble’s flagship product, Tekla Structures. Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB), a global leader in construction technology, has revealed how its solutions enhanced and simplified the details and workflow in the designing, fabricating, and coordinating phases of this landmark project.

With its size and complex design, the Museum of the Future involved using massive amounts of data during the design phase and Eversendai integrated Tekla Structures, Trimble’s flagship software solution, to make the workflow seamless and deliver precise interface requirements.

Eversendai also utilized a cloud collaboration tool from Trimble portfolio to identify potential clashes in various processes such as roofing, façade, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), and reinforced cement concrete. Using the cloud-based software allowed the contractor to resolve the issues in the initial design phase, saving substantial time and resources.

During the construction of the Museum of the Future, various project teams used multiple solutions from Trimble. Trimble Connect was used as the Common Data Environment (CDE), Trimble’s SysQue was used for the intricate MEP design, Tekla Structures also proved helpful in designing the building’s highly complex structure and Robotic Total Stations were used for the automated on-site layout. The use of modern Trimble solutions helped reduce the rework by up to 65%, a 50% productivity boost and a 25% total energy consumption reduction.

Reminiscing the project experience, Sreenivasa Rao Vipparla, General Manager, Design & Engineering – ME, UK & CIS, Eversendai Engineering L.L.C said “Tekla Structures is a potent tool behind the success of our Museum of Future Project due to its powerful 3D modeling capabilities and flexibility to open API options that gave us a large scope to explore and develop routines to do modeling and detailing accurately in a relatively short time with a high degree of precision. دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 21 فبراير 2022: أعلنت شركة الإمارات دبي الوطني "ريت" (الإمارات دبي الوطني ريت أو الـ "صندوق")، وهي صندوق استثمار عقاري يعمل وفقاً للشريعة الإسلامية وتديره شركة الإمارات دبي الوطني لإدارة الأصول المحدودة، عن صافي قيمة الأصول (NAV) كما في 31 ديسمبر 2021. وبلغ صافي قيمة الأصول لدى شركة الإمارات دبي الوطني "ريت" 168 مليون دولار أمريكي (0.67 دولار أمريكي للسهم)، مقارنة بـ 164 مليون دولار أمريكي في سبتمبر 2021 و184 مليون دولار أمريكي في ديسمبر 2020، مما يشير إلى علامات أولية على استقرار القيمة. وبلغت قيمة المحفظة العقارية للشركة 357 مليون دولار أمريكي، بزيادة قدرها 3٪ مقارنة بالربع الماضي، ويرجع هذا النمو الإيجابي بشكل رئيسي إلى تعديل منهجية تقييم المحفظة بما يتماشى مع اللوائح والقوانين.

 

ظل الإشغال الإجمالي عبر المحفظة ثابتاً عند 77٪ مقارنةً بالربع الماضي، بفضل الأداء الإيجابي للتأجير من الأصول في المحفظة السكنية التي استفادت من بدء التعافي وتحسن ظروف السوق. وبلغ المتوسط المرجح لعقد الإيجار غير المنتهي ("WAULT") 4.30 سنة للمحفظة.

 

وانخفضت المصاريف التشغيلية لشركة الإمارات دبي الوطني "ريت" لفترة التسعة أشهر المنتهية في 31 ديسمبر 2021 بنسبة 6.6٪، فيما انخفضت مصاريف الصندوق بنسبة 20٪ خلال نفس الفترة. ومع ذلك، ارتفعت تكاليف التمويل لفترة التسعة أشهر بنسبة 3.5٪ بسبب التكاليف غير المتكررة المرتبطة بإعادة التمويل في تلك الفترة. وعند استبعاد هذه النفقات غير المتكررة البالغة 1.4 مليون دولار أمريكي، فإن تكاليف التمويل انخفضت بنسبة 20٪ خلال تلك الفترة، بسبب انخفاض أسعار الفائدة في البنوك. وستؤدي إعادة تمويل ديوننا في ديسمبر 2021 بشروط تجارية أفضل إلى تقليل تكاليف التمويل في المستقبل، وينبغي أن تخفف، إلى حد ما، من تأثير الزيادات المحتملة في أسعار الفائدة المتوقعة في العام 2022 والأعوام التالية.

 

وعلى الرغم من التدفقات النقدية الإيجابية من الأنشطة التشغيلية في هذا الربع، فإن صافي دخل الإيجارات أو الأموال المُحقّقة من العمليّات المسجلة كان سالب 300 ألف دولار أمريكي لهذه الفترة، وذلك بسبب حدثين مهمين أديا إلى تعديلات محاسبية غير نقدية بلغت 3.6 مليون دولار أمريكي. يتمثل الحدث الأول في إعادة تمويل الدين بالكامل، مما أدى إلى إنفاق جميع المصاريف غير المطفأة المتعلقة بتمويل بنك المشرق السابق وتكاليف حل تحوط إيبور السابق بالكامل في هذا الربع، أما الحدث الثاني فيتعلق بإتمام مفاوضات الإيجار مع الشركة المستأجرة لمبنى السكن الطلابي، شركة يونينست لخدمات التأجير والإدارة المحدودة "يونينست"، مما أدى إلى عكس جزئي للدخل.

 

وفي هذا الصدد، قال أنتوني تايلور، رئيس قسم العقارات بشركة الإمارات دبي الوطني لإدارة الأصول: "يسرنا أن نعلن عن استقرار تقييمات الأصول خلال هذا الربع، حيث يتواصل تعافي السوق بعد عامين مليئين بالتحديات التي فرضتها جائحة كوفيد-19 بشكل رئيسي. وقد بدأ نهجنا الاستباقي في إدارة أصولنا وهيكل رأس المال يؤتي ثماره مع استقرار معدلات الإشغال عبر المحفظة وبقاء النفقات الجارية عند مستويات منخفضة قياسية. كما أتممنا اتفاقية الإيجار المعدلة مع شركة "يونينست" في ديسمبر 2021، مما أدى إلى استئناف مدفوعات الإيجار لهذا الأصل. وما زلنا نركز على إدارة التكاليف على المدى الطويل رغم تكبد بعض النفقات غير المتكررة المتعلقة بإعادة تمويل تسهيلات الدين والتي أثرت على الأداء خلال هذا الربع، ولكنها ستقلل التكاليف بشكل كبير في المستقبل. وبفضل السيولة الجيدة لدينا، والمبادرات التي نفذناها مؤخراً، فإننا في وضع جيد يتيح لنا التغلب على ظروف السوق مع دخول فترة الارتفاع المتوقع في أسعار الفائدة".

 

 

يذكر أن نسبة القرض إلى القيمة في شركة الإمارات دبي الوطني "ريت" ظلت مستقرة عند 54٪، مقارنة بالربع الماضي، نتيجة ثبات التقييمات خلال هذا الربع.

 

France returns to the Mobile World Congress with 56 exhibitors

“Once again, this year, France has a major presence and is asserting its position as one of the largest national pavilions operating in the sectors of telecoms infrastructure and IoT, mobile applications and services, artificial intelligence, hardware and software. 2022 marks the grand return of the French Tech pavilion, which will this year celebrate 13 years at the Mobile World Congress. Organised by Business France, the La French Tech pavilion will occupy an area of 344 m² in Hall 5 on stands 5B41 & 5B61. New products and services will be demonstrated to visitors during the 4 days of the event. The Business France teams based in countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East have organised a number of meetings at the show designed to take full advantage of discussions between French exhibitors and foreign professionals. The collaboration between national pavilions such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland will also enable specially arranged meetings between French and international businesses. 

A programme of visits by French officials to the French Tech pavilion is also planned with the arrival of Christophe Lecourtier, Managing Director of Business France, on 28 February and that of Laure de la Raudière, President of ARCEP, on 2 March. 

The Middle East zone, a market favored by French companies

A total of 20 French companies exhibiting on the French pavilion have joined the meeting and support programs in the Middle East zone via the support of local Business France offices. The telecom market is particularly flourishing for French technologies. Indeed, the Global Competitiveness Report 2020 ranks the United Arab Emirates 2nd in the world in terms of adoption of new technologies and 4th for the adaptation of its legal framework to the digital sector (e-commerce, fintech). The legal framework now allows the establishment of 100% foreign companies throughout the UAE and a very advantageous tax framework makes the United Arab Emirates attractive to tech companies.

Major Innovative Startups

انضمت 20 شركة فرنسية مشاركة في الجناح الفرنسي إلى برامج الاجتماعات والدعم في منطقة الشرق الأوسط من خلال دعم مكاتب المحلية لوكالة بيزنس فرانس. يزدهر سوق الاتصالات، لا سيما أمام التكنولوجيا الفرنسية،  وقد حلت الإمارات العربية المتحدة في المرتبة الثانية عالمياً من حيث تبنيها التكنولوجيات الجديدة، والمرتبة الرابعة من حيث تكييف إطارها القانوني مع القطاع الرقمي (التجارة الإلكترونية والتكنولوجيا المالية) وفق تقرير التنافسية العالمية للعام 2020، فيما يسمح القانون الإماراتي حالياً للمستثمرين الأجانب بتأسيس شركات أجنبية وتملكها بنسبة 100٪ في جميع أنحاء دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، كما أن الإطار الضريبي المفيد للغاية يجعل من الإمارات العربية المتحدة وجهة استثمارية جذابة لشركات التكنولوجيا.

 

شركات ناشئة ابتكارية

ومن بين الوفد الفرنسي المشارك، نسجل مشاركة شركات ناشئة ابتكارية مثل "آي بي إم فرانس" التي ستعرض محطاتها التفاعلية المصممة لرقمنة وكالات الاتصالات ذاتية الخدمة على مدار الساعة طوال أيام الأسبوع، فيما ستقدم شركة "بونان تكنولوجي" حلاً روبوتياً (eTASQ Motion) سهل الاستخدام يضمن جودة المنتجات من خلال اختبارها في ظل ظروف الحياة الحقيقية.
