Effat Mostafa ranked among the 100 Most Powerful Arabs under 40 by Arabian Business

Owing to her many accomplishments, Mostafa was recently named among the 100 Most Powerful Arabs under 40 by Arabian Business.


With over 9 years of experience in the maritime industry in various media roles, she is extremely passionate about the maritime industry and continuously strives to ensure that entities within the industry grow through well-thought-out media and marketing strategies. As part of the thriving industry, Mostafa has to her credit extensive successful projects with several clients from the government and the private sector. Her objective through her role as a media expert is to curate bespoke communications strategies and messages that are aligned with the business objectives of the entities. She leads a team of media professionals who are responsible for developing communication strategies including publications, partnerships, media marketing, social media, media outreach and conferences for esteemed clients in the industry.


As part of the UAE delegation, in 2019 Mostafa was selected as the official Marketing Comm. Officer for the IMO Women Committee’s AWIMA. Her responsibilities include managing all associated branding and initiating and implementing strategies internally to execute marketing communication activities externally, in addition to supervising all other marketing activities for future events.

Mostafa’s career progression has been upward, helping her earn a number of accolades that have gained her credibility in the industry. She is the youngest Arab journalist who has successfully published more than 500 articles, covering different fields within the maritime sector. She is also a contributing writer in several UAE newspapers such as Gulf Today and Al-Watn. Her published articles have been anthologised in different books and journal essays such as “Issues in Comparative Politics” that was published in the US by Todd Landman.


In 2015, she became the youngest Exco-member for the International Women in Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) and was selected as one of the official speakers and moderator to talk about women empowerment in the maritime industry at Seatrade ME 2018. She has also been a panelist at well-reputed media forums such as Young Arab Media Forum and PR Pressure Conference.

تدرجت عفت مصطفى بسرعة خلال مسيرتها المهنية وحصلت على العديد من الجوائز المرموقة في القطاع البحري. كما كانت أصغر صحافية عربية تنشر أكثر من 500 مقال في مختلف مجالات القطاع البحري، حيث تنشر مقالاتها في عدد من الصحف الإماراتية مثل "الوطن" و"غلف توداي"، وتم اختيار مقالاتها الصحفية للنشر في عدد من الكتب والدوريات المرموقة، من بينها مقال "قضايا في السياسة المقارنة" الذي نشره البروفيسور "تود لاندمان" في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

في عام 2015، كانت عفت مصطفى أصغر عضوة في اللجنة التنفيذية لرابطة النساء العاملات في قطاع التجارة والشحن البحري (WISTA). وفي مؤتمر سيتريد الشرق الأوسط 2018، تم اختيارها ضمن قائمة المتحدثين الرسميين للحديث عن تمكين المرأة في القطاع البحري. كما شاركت في الجلسات النقاشية في العديد من المنتديات المرموقة مثل الملتقى الإعلامي العربي للشباب ومؤتمر (PR Pressure Conference) للعلاقات العامة.

Canon updates its popular Speedlite Transmitter, with the new ST-E3-RT(Ver.2)

 

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 14 February 2021 – Canon announces the ST-E3-RT(Ver.2) – an update of the popular ST-E3-RT transmitter. Enabling wireless flash synchronisation and multiple control of Speedlites - positioned up to 30m away - this new transmitter gives professionals greater creative freedom in both a studio and natural environment. It supports key features of the recently introduced Speedlite EL-1 and also enables new capabilities when using previously launched RT Speedlites – including wireless (radio) second-curtain synchronisation.

Other new features of the ST-E3-RT(Ver.2) include support for the Speedlite EL-1’s low-power 1/8192 micro flash, and for photographers who use manual flash, the transmitter boasts a new FE Memory mode.

High-quality, flexible capture

Through introducing radio wireless transmission and second-curtain synchronisation, the ST-E3-RT(Ver.2) releases the flash at the end of a long exposure. As a result, it helps photographers produce natural looking images when capturing moving subjects. The ST-E3-RT(Ver.2) offers this feature as a new wireless option, giving users flexibility in a range of shooting scenarios.


When shooting with a large aperture and/or high ISO speed, the flash level can often overpower the subject and scene. This forces the photographer to change settings or set up, ultimately losing the look they desired. When partnered with the Speedlite EL-1, the transmitter’s 1/8192 micro flash adds beautifully subtle nuances of light without disrupting the atmosphere and ambient light reflected on set. This feature is perfect for fashion and portrait photographers looking to capture scenes with a natural atmosphere.


Building on the original transmitter’s flexible qualities, the ST-E3-RT(Ver.2) supports FE Memory – offering a quicker and more convenient manual flash set up. Alleviating the need for multiple test shots, professionals now have the option to perform an initial shot in E-TTL mode, capturing the E-TTL flash settings. Users can then switch the Speedlites to manual flash to allow for manual adjustments where needed – all whilst retaining the original E-TTL settings.


Maximising product life span

The Quest in Building Resilient and Sustainable Edge Data Centers

Edge computing is the latest trend to be talked about in the technology sector. But what is behind all of the hype? Edge computing is a real-world data processing concept that helps companies tackle latency issues, operational strain, and security, especially in the current environment. Gartner estimates that 75% of enterprise data is expected to be created and processed at the edge by 2025, and a 2019 report by Analysys Mason suggests that enterprises will spend an average of 30% of their IT budgets on edge computing over the next three years.



With companies expediting their digital transformation now more than ever, edge computing can unleash the power of local data that is generated from digitized and connected devices of all kinds. Data, as we know, is the currency of success. Companies are depending on data to make better decisions, establish competitive advantage and drive revenues.



Today, edge data centers are highly important as the nature of work performed by IoT devices within commercial environment is creating a need for much faster connections between data centers or cloud and the devices that are being widely used through remote working and cross-border collaborations. This means that people and businesses are more dependent on data centers.



Increase in demand must be met with sustainable data centers



To meet increasing demand, it is absolutely critical for data centers to be both sustainable and resilient. At our current pace and based on internal projections at Schneider Electric, energy consumption by data centers is expected to double by 2040; an increase largely attributed to the continued rise in edge data centers. And with 7.5 million new micro data centres expected to be installed by 2025, the global footprint at peak power stands at a staggering 120 GW for edge facilities alone. This adds up to between 450,000 to 600,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.



Just as how we must keep ourselves accountable for our carbon footprint, so will the public at large keep us on our toes. Increased energy consumption by the data center industry will not go unnoticed by the public and governments as sustainability remains high on the agenda for both private and public sectors.



In fact, recent report from 451 Research shows that global co-location providers are aware of their responsibilities in ensuring sustainability of data centers. Most respondents (57%) believe efficiency and sustainability will be highly important competitive differentiators in three years, a large increase from the current reading of 26%. It is no surprise that the top driver for efficiency and sustainability programs is customer expectations (50%), followed by long-term operational resiliency (40%) and regulatory guidelines (36%).



Four elements of resilient edge data center of the future



Companies undergoing digital transformation require critical networks, systems, and processes that are highly available, resilient – more importantly, done sustainably. Deployed at scale, edge data centers are both resilient and sustainable when they factor the following:




Standardization and integration: Most edge deployments have limited or no IT staff, which means that good reference designs and digital design tools are more important than ever. Standardization simplifies deployment and maintenance which is an added benefit for everyone, including partners. In parallel, integrated systems offer the added benefit of simplified deployment and management.




Improved efficiency: Given the increasing demand we are currently seeing for local edge data centers; it would be a tall order for IT staff to manage a high number of deployments. Data insights, benchmarking, and predictive analytics are key differentiators that drive greater efficiency and lower costs.




Monitoring and management: It is important for us to anticipate and have the right systems in place to react efficiently when issues arise. A cloud-based, next-generation edge management platform gives end users and partners the ability to manage sites remotely and moreover, enables the collection and analysis of data that leads to better performance with predictive capability. Better still, software and services that are built on an open, vendor-agnostic, next-generation platform will enable IT staff to optimise management of edge computing sites by reducing cost to service and mitigating risk while improving availability.




Simplified Deployment and Maintenance: When deploying at scale, preconfiguring the site as well as the micro data center to match the site becomes important. A plug and play installing is desirable. In addition, these micro data centers should be designed for minimal maintenance as the site may be difficult and expensive to access. If maintenance or trouble shooting is required, it should be able to be handled by a non-skilled person on-site that could be remotely guided.



As digital transformation initiatives accelerate, sustainability remains an essential cornerstone in our digital-centric world. While the world moves towards leveraging the edge, we need to keep in mind that the solution is only as strong as the coordinated efforts that are put in place to optimize systems and processes. By pushing the limits of technology and innovation, successful and sustainable business operations are entirely within the realm of possibility.

رحلة إنشاء مراكز بيانات حافة مرنة ومستدامة

من المهم أن تكون مراكز البيانات مستدامة ومرنة، وذلك لتلبية الطلب المتزايد، وبالمعدلات الحالية واستناداً إلى التوقعات الداخلية في شنايدر إلكتريك، من المتوقع أن يتضاعف استهلاك مراكز البيانات للطاقة بحلول عام 2040؛ وهي الزيادة التي ترجع إلى حدٍ كبيرٍ إلى الارتفاع المستمر في مراكز بيانات الحافة، ومع التوقعات بتركيب 7.5 مليون مركز بيانات مصغر جديد بحلول عام 2025، فإن البصمة العالمية في ذروة الطاقة تبلغ 120 جيجاوات لمنشآت الحافة وحدها، ويضيف هذا ما بين 450 ألف إلى 600 ألف طن من ثاني أكسيد الكربون سنويًا.

EWEC Invites Expression of Interest Submissions for the Development of M2 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Independent Water Project

M2 RO will provide up to 150 million imperial gallons per day and improve the security of water supply in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

Developers or developer consortiums are invited to submit Expressions of Interest by the specified deadline

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 15 February 2021: EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), a leading company in the integrated coordination of planning, purchasing and supplying of water and electricity across the UAE, today opened invitations to submit Expression of Interest for the development of the Mirfa 2 (M2) Reverse Osmosis (RO) Independent Water Project (IWP).


M2 will see desalination of seawater using reverse osmosis to supply up to 150 million imperial gallons per day of water, improving the security of water supply in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In addition, M2 will play a key role in the ongoing cost reduction initiatives in the sector through the procurement of competitive and efficient RO water desalination technology. This is part of EWEC’s wider strategic initiative of decoupling power and water generation capacity.



Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, said: “Reverse osmosis is a modern technology that desalinates water with high energy efficiency, and cost efficiency. In addition, reverse osmosis desalination technology helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and significantly reduce gas consumption by decoupling power and water production for the winter and summer seasons. M2 is a project we have developed to support these key strategic aims, and enhance clean and sustainable water supply in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”



The M2 project is to be located adjacent to the existing Mirfa IWPP, approximately 110 kilometres west of the city of Abu Dhabi, and involve the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and ownership of a standalone greenfield RO seawater desalination plant with a capacity of up to 150 million imperial gallons per day of water output, together with associated infrastructure. The expected date for starting commercial operations is Q1 2024.


The successful developer or developer consortium will own up to 40 percent of the entity while the remaining equity will be primarily held indirectly by the Abu Dhabi Government.


EWEC invites developers or developer consortiums to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by the deadline of 4 March 2021 at 12:00 p.m. Gulf Standard Time (GST). Interested parties are requested to submit their EOI via electronic copy to: ewec.m2RO@ewec.ae.


Following review of the EOIs, EWEC will issue the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to proceed to the next stage.

Africa Finance Corporation hires Blackstone’s Zarou CEO, Sameh Shenouda, as CIO

 

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE/AETOSWire)-- Africa Finance Corporation, one of the biggest investors in infrastructure solutions in Africa, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sameh Shenouda as its new Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer.

Mr. Shenouda brings over 27 years of experience in investments and fundraising in international capital markets, with a focus on infrastructure development, setting up new platforms and supporting management teams. He has deep knowledge of African markets and has worked across AFC’s priority sectors including Power, Transport & Logistics, Heavy Industries and Natural Resources.

Egyptian-born Mr. Shenouda was most recently the CEO of Zarou, a developer, owner and operator of infrastructure projects in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia that is 100% owned by The Blackstone Group. Previously, he was the Head of Infrastructure at CDC Group Plc, the UK development finance institution. Mr. Shenouda built CDC’s direct infrastructure equity business, which, under his leadership, invested in excess of US$1 billion in Africa and South Asia.

During his tenure as CIO, AFC deployed over US$8.7 billion across 35 countries in Power, Transport & Logistics, Heavy Industries, Telecommunications and Natural Resources. He was pioneer of the project development asset class at AFC, having led several signature transactions including the 350MW Cenpower Kpone IPP project in Tema, Ghana; the 60MW Red Sea Power wind farm in Ghoubet, Djibouti; Dynamic Mining bauxite mine in Guinea; and ARISE, a pan-African infrastructure and industrial platform. The pioneer Chairman of Africa Infrastructure Development Association, Mr. Andrews led AFC’s accreditation with the Green Climate Fund.
