The school of Continuing Education at The American University in Cairo will hold a Community Lecture Series: Ahmed El Alfi, in Conversation with James Ketterer about “Life Lessons from a Journey in Entrepreneurship.”



Ahmed El Alfi is the founder of Sawari Ventures, a Cairo based venture capital firm. In 2011, Sawari created Flat6Labs, its own startup accelerator. Flat6Labs immerses startup entrepreneurs into real-world challenges of creating and managing sustainable enterprises. In 2013 El Alfi established the GrEEK Campus, a 25,000 square meter office park near Tahrir Square where over 130 startups now work and collaborate; and which was the home of RiseUpSummit. He also founded Nafham the top online video educational platform covering the Egyptian, Saudi and Syrian public school curriculums.

James Ketterer is dean of the School of Continuing Education. Ketterer previously served as dean of international studies at Bard College and academic director of the Bard Globalization and International Affairs program and he taught in Bard’s Political Studies and Global and International Studies programs. Ketterer previously served as Egypt country director for AMIDEAST. Prior to that, he was vice-chancellor for policy and planning and deputy provost at the State University of New York (SUNY).

القاهرة في 23 نوفمبر 2019- تأكيداً لخبراتها الكبيرة والممتدة في القارة الأفريقية، ترعى السويدي اليكتريك منتدى "الاستثمار من أجل أفريقيا 2019" والذي يقام في العاصمة الإدارية الجديدة على مدار يومي 22 و23 نوفمبر الحالي تحت رعاية عبد الفتاح السيسي-معالي رئيس الجمهورية. يقام منتدى هذا العام تحت عنوان "الاستثمار في أفريقيا"، حيث تشارك السويدي اليكتريك في تلك الدورة لاكتشاف رؤى وآفاق جديدة للمساهمة في تشكيل مستقبل أفضل للقارة الأفريقية، وتنفيذ الأولويات التنموية للقارة.

CNN’s Cairo POV explores the influence of the Egyptian capital in art and culture

CNN International has launched a new travel series that seeks to uncover the captivating stories of the residents of Cairo and the hidden treasures that exist away from the Egyptian capital’s iconic monuments.

As a city famed for its historical significance and rich culture, Cairo is home to 19 million people and has been a source of fascination for travelers for centuries: it also remains one of the world’s most visited cities.

But away from attractions such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum and Al-Azhar Mosque, there are a number of sites that are playing an influential role in shaping the city’s identity as it continues to evolve in the modern era.

In Cairo POV, the programme travels to the city to speak to leading figures from the worlds of film, music, art and architecture to understand what makes Cairo so unique as a city.

From filmmaker Amr Salama to Okhtein founders Mounaz Abdelraouf and Aya Abdelraouf, a number of inspirational individuals tell CNN how they attempt to translate the culture of Cairo into their work.

Aya Abdelraouf, joint founder of Okhtein, a luxury leatherwear brand that aims to draw international attention to the inherent refinement of Egyptian artisanship, said: “Most people abroad or internationally think of Egypt as the Pyramids or the Pharaohs. And we really wanted to step out of this cliché - so we started looking for inspiration elsewhere. When we did that, we learned a lot about leather, we learned a lot about brass, and this really inspired us and pushed us to, just take this culture and heritage and somehow redefine it into a carriable piece of art.”

Aya’s sister and business partner, Mounaz Abdelraouf, commented: “My relationship with Cairo is more like any kind of relationship you have with a friend, with a lover, with anything there are times when you're so frustrated with the traffic or sometimes you're just in love with the country itself, with the scenery, with the Nile. So, you have the peaceful times and you have the hectic times.”

In addition to speaking with the hugely successful local designers, CNN International also interviewed filmmaker Amr Salama who shared how she is constantly inspired by the Egyptian capital. Salama said: “Cairo is a very dramatic city. There's drama everywhere. Beautiful drama, intense drama, sad drama, happy drama. I believe it's a goldmine for any writer to live here. In the last 10 years, I guess, it's a nourishing environment for filmmaking. It's more dynamic, it’s one of the best times to be a filmmaker in Egypt.”

The program also seeks to explore Cairo through the eyes of a film star, who now calls the city home. Hend Sabry, an actress and lawyer who is originally from Tunisia said: “I call Cairo a daily adventure. It is such an unpredictable city with such warm and great energy. The unpredictability speaks to me as an actress. When I visited Cairo for the first time, it’s true I fell in love in every sense.”

إختتام العام الثاني لمشروع "معًا " من أجل تنمية مصر

تحت رعاية الكنيسة الأسقفية ومؤسسة مصر الخير

القاهرة 16 نوفمبر - في إطار إستراتيجية الدولة المصرية لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة إختتمت اليوم فاعاليات مشروع معًا من أجل تنمية مصر للعام الثاني على التوالي تحت رعاية الكنيسة الأسقفية ومؤسسة مصر الخير بحضور "نيافة المطران منير حنا مطران الكنيسة الأسقفية بمصر وشمال أفريقيا والقرن الأفريقى" وبحضور كل من الأستاذة دينا حتحوت رئيس قطاع مناحي الحياة بمؤسسة مصر الخير و فضيلة الشيخ محمد عيد كيلانى مدير عام المساجد الحكومية بوزارة الأوقاف و فضيلة الشيخ الدكتور أسامة فخرى الجندى مدير إدارة المساجد بوزارة الأوقاف وأيضا سيادة المستشار أشرف حمدى حضر الحفل نيابة عن معالى الوزيرة الدكتورة غادة والى وزيرة التضامن وسيادة المستشار شريف أحمد أبو طالب مساعد وزير العدل و الدكتورة ناجية عبد المغنى والمهندسة تيفولى توفيق من جمعية التسلح الخلقى المصرى والأستاذ كيرى بيتزلد من سفارة الولايات المتحدة الامريكية، بالإضافة لعدد كبير من السادة سفراء الدول المختلفة.

وقد شهد الحفل إلقاء بعض الأناشيد والتراتيل الدينية ومشاركة بعض تجارب الشباب خلال المرحلة الثانية للمشروع بالإضافة إلى عن عرض فيلم تسجيلي يبين الإنجازات التي تمت خلال عام 2019 . 

حيث إستهدف مشروع "معاً من أجل تنمية مصر" خلال عامه الثاني تدريب أكثر من 200 شاب وشابة مقسمين إلى مجموعات يشرف علي كل مجموعة عدد من الأئمة والقساوسة حيث تم تقديم العديد من المبادرات والندوات والأنشطة تأتي على رأسها تعليم الصغار والشباب مهارات اللغة الانجليزية وتوظيفها فى اكتساب مفاهيم بناءه تساعدهم على إحداث تغيير ثقافى لنشر الحب وقيم التعايش المشترك والانفتاح على الآخر . بالإضافة إلى الإهتمام بتنفذ القوافل الطبية وتدريب الشباب على العديد من الحرف المهنية كالنجارة والخياطة وصيانة الهواتف وغيرها من الحرف التى تضمن لصاحبها دخل ثابت .

كما تضمن المشروع مبادرة لإحياء التراث الثقافى والفنى باستخدام الخامات الطبيعية ( جذوع الأشجار والأخشاب الطبيعية ) بأعمال الحفر والنحت بالإضافة إلى الرسم على الجدران , كما أتاح المشروع الفرصة أمام ذوي القدرات الخاصة من الصم المهمشين بتنفيذ مبادرة التعبير عن إحساسهم باستخدام فنون الرسم والتلوين والتصوير الفوتوغرافى كما شملت المبادرة قيام بعض الشباب بعمل بطاقات تعريفية بلغة برايل بالمتحف القبطى والإسلامى لمساعدة المكفوفين , بالإضافة إلى العديد من المبادرات التنموية الوطنية .

وقد تم تقديم مبادرات لحوالى سبعة عشر مجتمع ما بين قرى الصعيد والدلتا وجنوب الوادى والقاهرة وذلك من خلال التعاون مع الهيئات والجمعيات المجتمعية المختلفة المعنية بالمشروع وهى وزارة الشباب والرياضة، مرصد الأزهر ومركز الحوار بمشيخة الأزهر، وحدة تعليم الصم وضعاف السمع التابعة للكنيسة الأسقفية بمنطقة مصر القديمة، المجلس القومي للمرأة بمحافظة المنيا، جمعية مشوار التحدى بشبرا، جمعية الصعيد للتربية والتنمية، المركز الأسقفي للخدمات الإجتماعية بمنوف، المؤسسة التنموية لتمكين ذوى الإحتياجات الخاصة من المكفوفين، مؤسسة ويت أكاديمى وجمعية شموع بالمنيا، مركز جسور الثقافى بالقاهرة ومركز أركان بالاسكندرية التابعين للكنيسة الأسقفية .

وصرح نيافة المطران منير حنا بـ : أرحب بحضراتكم بالنيابة عن فضيلة الدكتور على جمعة ، وأشكر الرب من أجل الشراكة بين الكنيسة الاسقفية ومؤسسة مصر الخير حيث ان مؤسسة مصر الخير تعمل من أجل خير بلدنا ومن أجل تنمية الانسان وأنا انتمى لمؤسسة مصر الخير كونى عضو من أعضاء مجلس الامناء، ومؤسسة مصر الخير من المؤسسات الرائدة فى جمهورية مصر العربية التى تعمل بدون الرغبة فى الظهور وبدون تجارة بالناس. 

صرحت الأستاذة دينا حتحوت، رئيس قطاع مناحي الحياة بمؤسسة مصر الخير: "فخورة بوجودي في حفل ختام المرحلة الثانية من مشروع معا لتنمية مصر و تكريم الشباب المشاركين في المشروع للاحتفال بنجاح التعاون الذي بدأ منذ عام ٢٠١٧ محققا نتائج إيجابية. حيث تم التعاون بين الكنيسة الأسقفية ومؤسسة مصر الخير بهدف تنمية قدرات الشباب ورفع وعيهم الثقافي، بالاضافة إلى مشاركتهم في المبادرات المجتمعية " التي ستعود عليهم بتطور اجتماعي واقتصادي. 

كما أضافت"ان هدفنا في مؤسسة مصر الخير ان نعمل على تنمية الانسان من خلال قطاعات التعليم، الصحة، التنمية المتكاملة، التكافل الاجتماعي، البحث العلمي و أخيرا قطاع مناحي الحياة الذي يهدف لنشر الفنون والثقافة، الدمج والإتاحة للأشخاص ذوي الاعاقة، الحفاظ على البيئة، بالاضافة إلى بناء الشخصية المصرية. وهو ما يهدف اليه مشروع معا لتنمية مصر لذلك تلاقت الأهداف والرؤا مما ساهم في نجاح المشروع وحريصين كل الحرص على ان نستكمل هذا التعاون محققين انجازات ونجاحات كبيرة في عام ٢٠٢٠ والأعوام القادمة".

وصرح فضيلة الشيخ محمد عيد كيلانى : يعجز اللسان عن وصف الاحساس الجميل الذى اشعر به وانا ارى ثمرات النجاح تتحقق على أرض مصرنا الحبيبة من مثل هذه الاعمال الطيبة النبيلة وهى غاية كل دين النفع لكل البشرية لان الاديان كما نعلم كلنا مصدرها واحد ورسالات الانبياء كلهم غايتها واحدة، وهى تتميم مكارم الاخلاق. فمن الاخلاق ان يكون الانسان عضوا نافعا فى المجتمع المحيط به وهو قد تحقق الان فى ذلك المشروع وانى لسعيد بوجودى معكم واسعد بحبى لكم ومساعدتى فى تذليل الصعاب. وشكرا لكم جميعا. 

والجدير بالذكر أنه تم إختتام الحفل بإفتتاح معرض المشغولات اليدوية التى قام على تنفيذها الشباب المُشارك فى المشروع وتفقد كافة السادة الحضور أروقة المعرض وتناوبوا الحديث مع الشباب المشارك لدعمهم والتأكد عن قرب من تحقيق الإستفادة الكاملة للمشروع ومدي تغير وتنمية شخصيات الشباب المشارك .

Mimecast Announces Acquisition of DMARC Analyzer

Acquisition Offers Powerful Brand Protection with Stronger Blocking of Spoofing Attacks

With this acquisition, Mimecast customers can address threats at the email perimeter, inside the email network, and beyond their immediate purview. DMARC Analyzer’s simple and effective service offerings help reduce the time, effort and cost of stopping domain spoofing attacks. By combining Mimecast defenses with DMARC Analyzer’s reporting and email validation solution, customers can now further strengthen their cyber resilience with robust visibility into attacks that defraud customers, suppliers and partners.

Impersonation and spoofing are a significant issue for organizations, as these types of attacks are growing at a much faster rate than standard malware. In research recently conducted by Mimecast and Vanson Bourne, 65 percent of the respondents reported seeing an increase in impersonation attacks. Using DMARC can help organizations better protect against brand damage caused by phishing or spoofing attacks. Yet, Mimecast’s research found that only a third of respondents were using DMARC.




The acquisition of DMARC Analyzer strengthens Mimecast’s Email Security 3.0 approach which delivers perimeter to pervasive email security for organizations that need comprehensive protection at the perimeter, inside the perimeter and beyond the perimeter. DMARC Analyzer will provide Mimecast customers a more integrated solution for stronger visibility, governance, and brand protection across all email channels. The ability to implement DMARC efficiently as well as to hunt for and take action against threats using impersonation, will help customers protect their brands and domains that defraud customers and partners.

Financial Impact
The acquisition of DMARC Analyzer is not expected to have a material financial impact to Mimecast’s Revenue or Adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter and full year 2020, as guided on November 7, 2019.
