Chengdu to be served daily with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from 1 July 2019


Shanghai to be upgraded to larger 787-10 Dreamliner from 1 July 2019

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 13 February 2019 — Etihad Airways will introduce the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on its daily service from Abu Dhabi to Chengdu, effective 1 July 2019, replacing the Airbus A330-200 currently operating the route. Also from 1 July, the airlines’ daily service from Abu Dhabi to Shanghai will be upgraded from the 787-9 to the larger 787-10 Dreamliner.

Once the changes take effect, the airline will fly all 28 weekly services to China’s four main gateways – Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hong Kong – with the next generation Dreamliner aircraft.

The 787-9 service to Chengdu will feature Etihad Airways’ next-generation Business and Economy cabins, configured with 299 seats - 28 Business Studios and 271 Economy Smart Seats. The upgrade of aircraft will also see an increase in belly-hold cargo capacity of four tonnes.

The 787-10 service to Shanghai will be configured with 336 seats - 32 Business Studios and 304 Economy Smart. Belly-hold cargo capacity will be increased by two and a half tonnes.

Robin Kamark, Etihad Aviation Group Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are delighted to include Chengdu to our growing list of Dreamliner destinations. The move marks a milestone for Etihad as all our Chinese gateways will now be served by these technologically advanced aircraft, ensuring our guests experience the latest in-flight product innovations. We are equally pleased to be upgrading our Shanghai flights to our 787-10 aircraft.”

Etihad Airways recently celebrated 10 years of direct flights between Abu Dhabi and China, the capital-capital airlink was launched in 2008. Since 2008, the airline has carried over four and a half million passengers between Abu Dhabi and China.

The airline has witnessed significant yearly growth in passenger numbers on its services to and from China, further boosted by codeshare agreements with partner airlines and the mutual visa-exemption policy between the UAE and China, implemented in January 2018.

الاتحاد للطيران تشغل طائرات الجيل الجديد من طراز "بوينغ 787 دريملاينر" على جميع رحلاتها إلى الصين

أبوظبي، دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 13 فبراير 2019: أعلنت الاتحاد للطيران عزمها تشغيل طائرات الجيل الجديد من طراز "بوينغ 787 دريملاينر" على جميع رحلاتها إلى الصين، وذلك بعد إدخال الطائرات الجديدة لخدمة وجهتيها إلى مدينتي تشنغدو وشنغهاي اعتباراً من الأول من يوليو المقبل.

وأشارت الاتحاد للطيران إلى أنه وبمجرد دخول هذه التغييرات حيز التنفيذ، فإن جميع رحلاتها الأسبوعية البالغ عددها 28 رحلة إلى وجهاتها الأربع في الصين ستغطي مدن بكين، وتشنغدو، وشنغهاي، وهونغ كونغ، بطائرات الجيل الجديد من طراز "بوينغ دريملاينر".

وأوضحت الشركة أن طائرات "بوينغ 787-9 دريملاينر" ستدخل لخدمة رحلاتها اليومية من أبوظبي إلى تشنغدو اعتباراً من 1 يوليو 2019، لتحل محل طائرات آيرباص A330-200 التي تخدم هذه الوجهة في الوقت الحالي. كما ستقوم أيضاً بتشغيل طائرتها من طراز بوينغ 787-10 دريملاينر الأكبر حجمًا بدلًا من طراز بوينغ 787-9 لخدمة الرحلات اليومية من أبوظبي إلى شنغهاي اعتباراً من 1 يوليو.

وتتميّز طائرات بيونغ787-9 التي سيتم تشغيلها إلى تشنغدو بمقصورات الجيل القادم على متن درجة رجال أعمال والدرجة السياحية للاتحاد للطيران والتي تضمّ 299 مقعدًا من بينها 28 استوديو في درجة رجال الأعمال و271 مقعدًا ذكيًا في الدرجة السياحية. كما ستشهد طائرات الجيل الجديد زيادة في سعة حمولة الشحن لتبلغ أربعة أطنان.

وستتضمن الطائرات من طراز "بوينغ 787-10 التي سيتم تشغليها إلى شنغهاي على 336 مقعدًا موزعة بين 32 استوديو في درجة رجال الأعمال و304 مقاعد ذكية في الدرجة السياحية، على أن يتم زيادة سعة حمولة الشحن بنحو 2.5 طن.

وقال روبن كامارك، الرئيس التنفيذي للشئون التجارية لمجموعة الاتحاد للطيران: "نحن سعداء لإدراج تشنغدو ضمن قائمة وجهاتنا المتنامية التي تعتمد على طائرات دريملاينر. وتمثل هذه الخطوة علامة بارزة في الاتحاد للطيران، حيث سيتم الآن تسيير رحلاتنا إلى جميع وجهاتنا في الصين من خلال هذه الطائرات المتقدمة تقنياً، ما يضمن لضيوفنا تجربة أحدث المنتجات والخدمات على متن الطائرة، كما يسرنا تشغيل رحلاتنا إلى شنغهاي على طائراتنا من طراز 787-10".

وأضاف كامارك: "تُعد الصين سوقاً مهمة بالنسبة للاتحاد للطيران، فقد قمنا بتعزيز حضورنا هناك بشكل كبير منذ إطلاق رحلاتنا إلى بكين عام 2008؛ حيث أظهرت إحصائيات التجارة غير النفطية لأبوظبي أن الصين تأتي ضمن أبرز خمس دول تتمتع بعلاقات تجارية مع الإمارات، ونحن نتطلع إلى البناء على هذه الأسس القوية وأن يستمتع ضيوفنا بتجربة السفر على متن طائرات "787 دريملاينر" في رحلاتهم إلى الصين".

وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن الاتحاد للطيران احتفلت مؤخرًا بمرور عشر سنوات على تسيير الرحلات المباشرة بين أبوظبي والصين، والتي تم إطلاقها في عام 2008. ومنذ ذلك الحين نقلت الشركة أكثر من أربعة ملايين ونصف المليون مسافر بين أبوظبي والصين.

وشهدت شركة الاتحاد الطيران نمواً كبيراً في أعداد المسافرين على رحلاتها من وإلى الصين، مدعومة باتفاقيات الشراكة مع شركات الطيران الشريكة وسياسة الإعفاء من التأشيرة المتبادلة بين دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة والصين، والتي بدأ تنفيذها في يناير من العام الماضي.

NYU Abu Dhabi researchers discover new frog species in Ethiopia

Recently discovered by NYU Abu Dhabi researchers, the new frog species’ characteristics make it easily distinguishable from other Ethiopian puddle frogs



Among other morphological features, a slender body with long legs, elongated fingers and toes, and a golden coloration, set this frog apart from its closest relatives

Abu Dhabi, February 13, 2019: A new species of puddle frog (order: Anura, family: Phynobatrachidae, genus: Phrynobatrachus), has just been discovered by NYU Abu Dhabi researchers at the unexplored and isolated Bibita Mountain in southwestern Ethiopia. The research team named the new species Phrynobatrachus bibita sp. nov., or Bibita Mountain dwarf puddle frog, inspired by its home.



In summer 2018, NYU Abu Dhabi Postdoctoral Associates Sandra Goutte and Jacobo Reyes-Velasco explored an isolated mountain in southwestern Ethiopia where some of the last primary forest of the country remains. Bibita Mountain was under the radars of the team for several years due to its isolation and because no other zoologist had ever explored it before.



“Untouched, isolated, and unexplored: it had all the elements to spike our interest,” says Dr. Reyes-Velasco, who initiated the exploration of the mountain. “We tried to reach Bibita in a previous expedition in 2016 without success. Last summer, we used a different route that brought us to higher elevation,” he added.



Their paper, published in ZooKeys journal, reports that the new, tiny frog, 17 mm for males and 20 mm for females, is unique among Ethiopian puddle frogs. Among other morphological features, a slender body with long legs, elongated fingers and toes, and a golden coloration, set this frog apart from its closest relatives. “When we looked at the frogs, it was obvious that we had found a new species, they look so different from any Ethiopian species we had ever seen before!” explains Dr. Goutte.



Back in NYU Abu Dhabi, the research team sequenced tissue samples from the new species and discovered that Phrynobatrachus bibita sp. nov. is genetically different from any frog species in the region.



“The discovery of such a genetically distinct species in only a couple of days in this mountain is the perfect demonstration of how important it is to assess the biodiversity of this type of places. The Bibita Mountain probably has many more unknown species that await our discovery; it is essential for biologists to discover them in order to protect them and their habitat properly,” explains NYU Abu Dhabi Program Head of Biology and the paper’s lead researcher Stéphane Boissinot, who has been working on Ethiopian frogs since 2010.

أبوظبي، 13 فبراير 2019: أعلن باحثون من جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي عن اكتشاف فصيلة جديدة من ضفادع البرك (الترتيب: أنورا، الفصيلة: فاينو باتراكيدي، النوع: برينوباتراكوس) في جبل بيبيتا المنعزل وغير المستكشف بجنوب غرب إثيوبيا. وأطلق الفريق البحثي على الفصيلة الجديدة اسم ضفدع برينوباتراكوس بيبيتا، أو ضفدع جبل بيبيتا القزم استناداً إلى المكان المكتشف فيه.

وقام الباحثان لمرحلة ما بعد الدكتوراه في جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي ساندرا جوت وجاكوبو ريس-فيلاسكو في صيف العام الماضي باستكشاف أحد الجبال المنعزلة في جنوب غرب إثيوبيا، حيث تنتشر آخر الغابات البكر التي تحتضنها البلاد. وكان جبل بيبيتا الذي تم استكشاف الفصيلة الجديدة به موضع الدراسة للفريق البحثي منذ عدة سنوات، نظراً لكونه يشكل إحدى المناطق المنعزلة والتي لم يسبق اكتشافها من قبل أي باحث بعلم الحيوانات.

وفي هذا السياق، قال الدكتور جاكوبو ريس-فيلاسكو، الذي شارك في البعثة الاستكشافية الأولى للجبل: "ينطوي جبل بيبيتا على جميع العناصر التي أثارت اهتمامنا، ولا سيما كونه من المناطق البكر والمنعزلة وغير المستكشفة من قبل. وكنا قد حاولنا من خلال رحلة استكشافية سابقة في العام 2016 الوصل إلى الجبل دون أن ننجح في ذلك. ولكننا قمنا في الصيف الماضي باستخدام مسار مختلف أوصلنا إلى ارتفاع أكبر".

ويشير هذا البحث، الذي تم نشره في مجلة ’زوكي‘، إلى أن هذه الفصيلة الجديدة من ضفادع البرك تتسم بحجمها الصغير، حيث يبلغ طول الذكر 17 ميليمتراً، في حين يبلغ طول الأنثى 20 ميليمتراً، ما يجعلها فريدة من نوعها بالمقارنة مع أنواع ضفادع البرك الإثيوبية الأخرى. وتشمل اختلافات المظهر الخارجي لهذه الضفادع جسماً نحيلاً مع أرجل طويلة وأصابع للأرجل الأمامية والخلفية ذات شكل متطاول مع ألوان ذهبية تميزها عن باقي الفصائل الأخرى، وأوضحت الدكتورة ساندرا جوت بالقول: "عندما نظرنا إلى هذه الضفادع علمنا بأننا اكتشفنا فصيلة جديدة، فقد بدت مختلفة عن أي فصيلة أخرى من الضفادع الإثيوبية التي رأيناها سابقاً!".

وقام فريق البحث لدى عودته إلى جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي بإجراء فحوصات على العينات المستخلصة من أنسجة الفصيلة الجديدة، حيث توصلوا إلى اكتشاف أن ضفادع برينوباتراكوس بيبيتا مختلفة من الناحية الجينية عن أنواع الضفادع الأخرى المنتشرة في المنطقة.

ومن جانبه، قال ستيفان بويسنوت، رئيس قسم علم الأحياء في جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي ورئيس فريق البحث والذي يعمل في مجال علم الضفادع الإثيوبية منذ عام 2010: "يبرهن اكتشاف هذه الضفادع المختلفة جينياً في جبل بيبيتا خلال عدة أيام فقط على مدى أهمية تقييم التنوع البيولوجي في هذه الأماكن المنعزلة. ومن المحتمل أن يكون هذا الجبل لا يزال يحتضن الكثير من الأنواع والفصائل الحيوانية المجهولة والتي تنتظر اكتشافها؛ إذ من الضروري أن يقوم علماء الأحياء باكتشاف الفصائل الجديدة بغية حمايتها على النحو الأمثل ضمن موائلها الطبيعية".

The Centennial Campaign also aims at creating Centennial Scholarships, to support talented students who exemplify the qualities of AUC, giving the most deserving students access to a first class world quality education.

AUC will continue to serve as an incubator for arts and creativity through launching Tahrir Cultural Center at Tahrir Square campus, revitalizing the University’s role as the fountainhead of cultural activity in Cairo’s Khedivial-era downtown. AUC’s Neighborhood Initiative has found success in both Tahrir Square and New Cairo and the University continues to expand collaborations with local residents, businesses and public servants, and develop new programs in civic engagement, social outreach and economic development.

Embracing new initiatives, AUC’s Centennial Campaign will launch El Mostakbal, The Middle East Looking Forward initiative, which is a three-year project to examine the paramount socio-economic, political and security issues in the Arab world and the Middle East region. Through this initiative, The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy will lead an ambitious research and policy program that includes a multi-track series of workshops, conferences and publications that assess the challenges and opportunities facing the Arab world and offer concrete policy recommendations that touch every aspect of life in our region.

In addition to achieving the financial target, the campaign fosters a stronger culture of philanthropy among the AUC community, increasing participation in giving among all AUC community — trustees, alumni, students and parents. Through AUC Fund, Give 100 campaign, AUC community will have the opportunity to give 100 units of their country’s currency to the AUC Fund. All proceeds will count toward the campaign total and will support scholarships for students with financial need.

In its first 100 years, AUC created a world-class campus in New Cairo, including the largest English-language library in Egypt, three modern theaters and 11 cross-disciplinary research centers, leading the conversation between Egypt and the world. The University also created Egypt’s first university spin-off company, established Egypt’s first university-based business incubator, and, in partnership with MIT, became the first university in the region to offer a blended degree, combining online learning and in-person instruction. For more than 50 years, AUC’s Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) program has been the world’s premier Arabic language program. Also, AUC Press introduced the English-speaking world to Egypt’s Nobel Prize-winning writer Naguib Mahfouz. Research at Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Research Center on Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has helped more than 10 million patients in Egypt and 200 million worldwide.

Ricciardone is ambitious to achieve even more through AUC Centennial Campaign. “AUC’s new initiatives will make Egypt’s Global University more accessible to the country’s most promising students, make the world more accessible to our students and allow all of us to imagine tomorrow’s Middle East and promote philanthropy at AUC and beyond,” said Ricciardone.

Cairo, Egypt; February 12, 2019: The UAE-based Emirates National Oil Company announced plans to expand its aviation operations in Egypt through its acquisition of a share in the jet fuel hydrant system at Terminal 2 of Cairo International Airport. The Group also plans to establish a physical presence by opening an office for its aviation operations and jet fuel marketing, serving as a catalyst to enable the growth and development of the country’s aviation infrastructure.


ENOC’s announcements follows a recent agreement with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to enable the supply of jet fuel at all key airports across the country, providing further opportunities to drive foreign direct investments in the Egyptian market.




The hydrant system fuels 18 aircrafts at Terminal 2 and has been operational since 2017. The jet fuel hydrant system has seen investment and development from Egyptian and multinational players from the energy and aviation sectors.

القاهرة، مصر ، 12 فبراير، 2019: أعلنت شركة بترول الإمارات الوطنية "اينوك" عن خططها لتوسعة عملياتها لتزويد وقود الطائرات في مصر، من خلال الاستحواذ على حصة في نظام ضخ وقود الطائرات في المبنى رقم 2 بمطار القاهرة الدولي. كما تخطط المجموعة أيضاً لتعزيز حضورها في مصر عبر تأسيسها لمكتب محلي لإدارة عمليات قطاع الطيران وتسويق وقود الطائرات، مما يمثل رافداً لدعم تنمية وتطوير البنية التحتية للقطاع في الجمهورية. 

ويأتي هذا الإعلان في أعقاب توقيع شركة بترول الإمارات الوطنية "اينوك" لاتفاقية مع "الهيئة المصرية العامة للبترول" لتزويد وقود الطائرات إلى جميع المطارات الرئيسية في مصر، مما يساهم في توفير المزيد من فرص الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر في السوق المصرية.

وتم بناء نظام ضخ وقود الطائرات لتزويد الوقود إلى 18 طائرة في المبنى 2 ، وتم تشغيله عام 2017، وشهد استثمارات وعمليات تطوير متواصلة من أبرز الشركات المصرية والدولية المتخصصة بقطاعي الطاقة والطيران.
