Cairo 9 January 2019 : Chipsy for Food Industries represented by SunBites – one of PepsiCo’s subsidies – cooperated with “Kafelat El-Khair” association to implement a house rooftop cultivation project by providing financial support. “Qafelat El-Khair” will manage the technical support and periodic follow-ups. The project aims to aid the most deserving families by providing them with a stable source of income, so that they can move from subsistence to sufficiency, and be able to face the challenging economic circumstances.




“Qafelat El-Khair” association supplies and imports a number of agricultural units with an average productive capacity of one farm to include 300-315 plants in the crop rotation. It is defined as the primary agriculture method using the hydroponics technology that enables beneficiaries to plant the rooftops without soil, and with limited resources. Especially as the system used to cultivate the surfaces, is a system that is lightweight and does not cause excessive load on the building, which is also a safe element for use on the roofs of buildings.




Tamer Mosalam, General Manager of Chipsy for Food Industries in Egypt and North Africa, stated: “We work on empowering the Egyptian youth through numerous initiatives, amongst them the rooftops cultivation project. We work on empowering the most deserving families by offering a safe source of food for them and for their parents, creating job opportunities, as well as providing a constant source of income. This is considered a significant step towards creating sustainable opportunities and enhancing the shared values amongst the community, including effective economic and social development.”




He further added, “Those projects and ideas come as part of our global strategy known as “Performance with Purpose”, which aims to develop people, products, and planet. This comes in line with Egypt’s 2030 Vision, as youth and individual development is the hope to guarantee a true efficient economic and social development”.




“Qafelat El-Khair” association commits to prepare and implement the training program to qualify landowners to use the hydroponics technology. Those farms are being followed up on after the agricultural process to measure its success and performance.

The initiative started with a campaign on social media, where Chipsy for Food Industries through its product “SunBites”, extended the invitation to website admins to support it. In exchange for interactive participation, the company will help implement the project through providing financial support.




This initiative come as response to the Ministry of Agriculture’s calls for cultivating rooftops to achieve maximum benefit from the unit area. The initiative is represented in producing pesticide-free crops, which leads to the increase in production per unit area and enhances the capacity of utilizing water.

القاهرة 9 يناير 2019…. تعاونت شركة شيبسي للصناعات الغذائية متمثلة في منتج "صن بايتس" _إحدى شركات بيبسيكو مصر - مع جمعية "قافلة الخير" لتنفيذ مشروع زراعة أسطح المنازل من خلال تقديم الدعم المالي، في حين تتولى "قافة الخير" تقديم الدعم الفني والمتابعة الدورية، وذلك بهدف مساعدة الأسر الأكثر استحقاقا على توفير مصدر داخل دائم لمساعدتهم على الانتقال من حد الكفاف إلى حد الكفاية ومواجهة الظروف الاقتصادية الصعبة. 

حيث تقوم جمعية قافلة الخير بتوريد وتركيب عدد من وحدات زراعة الاسطح على أن يكون متوسط الطاقة الإنتاجية للمزرعة الواحدة من 300 – 315 نبتة في الدورة الزراعية الواحدة شاملة الزراعة الأولية وذلك باستخدام تقنية "hydroponics”التي تمكن المستفيدين من زراعة الأسطح بدون تربة بإمكانيات بسيطة ومتاحة، خاصة وأن النظام المُستخدم لزراعة الاسطح، هو نظام يتميز بخفة الوزن ا فلا يتسبب في حمل زائد على المبني، مما يعتبر ايضا عنصر آمن للاستخدام على أسطح المباني.

قال تامر مُسلَم، مدير عام شركة شيبسي للصناعات الغذائية مصر وشمال أفريقيا: "نعمل في شركة شيبسي على تمكين الشباب المصري من خلال مبادرات عديدة، ومن خلال مشروع زراعة الأسطح نعمل على تمكين الأسر الأكثر استحقاقا من خلال توفير مصدر غذائي آمن لهم ولذويهم وخلق فرص عمل، بالإضافة إلى خلق مصدر ثابت للدخل، وهو ما يعد خطوة هامة لخلق فرص مستدامة وتعزيز القيم المشتركة بين أفراد المجتمع بما يضمن تنمية اقتصادية واجتماعية فعالة."

وتلتزم جمعية "قافلة الخير" بتجهيز وحدة التدريب العملي وتنفيذ التدريب الخاص عن طريق تأهيل أصحاب هذه المزارع لاستخدام تقنية "hydroponics"، ويتم متابعة هذه المزارع بعد الانتهاء من عملية الزراعة لقياس مدى نجاح الدورة الزراعية. 

وقالت حنان محمد عبد الفتاح، رئيس مجلس إدارة جمعية قافلة الخير: إن الجمعية حريصة على دعم الأسر المستحقة وتعمل جاهدة علي المساعدة في تأسيس مشروعات خاصة بهم، إلى جانب تقديم التدريب اللازم والدعم المالي والمتابعة الدورية للمستفيدين، وذلك بهدف تحقيق دعم واستدامة موارد دخلهم هم. وأكدت أن النظرة

وكانت المبادرة بدأت من خلال حملة على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، حيث دعت شركة شيبسي للصناعات الغذائية من خلال منتجها " صن بايتس" بتوجيه الدعوة لرواد المواقع على دعم المبادرة من خلال المشاركة التفاعلية حيث ان المشاركة التفاعلية للجمهور ستساعد في تنفيذ المشروع بشكل أكبر وتقديم دعم مالي لتنفيذ المشروع. 

تأتى هذه المبادرة استجابة لوزارة الزراعة واستصلاح الأراضي بالنداء لزراعة أسطح المباني والمنشآت المختلفة لتحقيق أقصى استفادة ممكنة من وحدة المساحة، وتمثلت هذه المبادرة في إنتاج محاصيل خالية من المبيدات ومتبقيات الأسمدة، مما ادي الي زيادة الإنتاجية من وحدة المساحة وتعظيم كفاءة استخدام المياه.

Al Ansari Exchange donates USD 1 million to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance

UAE, 08 January 2019 – Al Ansari Exchange, the UAE-based foreign exchange company has donated USD 1 million to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to support the Alliance mission to create equal and improved access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the world’s poorest countries. Oman Gas Leverages Digital DNA to Increase Reliability Performance by 9% with AssetWise Asset Reliability

8 January 2019 - Oman Gas Company (OGC) is the principal gas transportation company of the Sultanate of Oman established in 2000. OGC operates a 2,500-kilometer high-pressure gas transmission network that runs the length and breadth of the Sultanate with annual gas transmission volumes of around 21.549 billion cubic meters. Other facilities include three compressor stations and 38 gas supply stations. The majority of the Sultanate’s industrial sectors, from power and desalination plants to fertilizer, methanol, petrochemicals, refineries, steel, and cement plants, rely on OGC to deliver the gas for their operations.




OGC adopted an advanced reliability and integrity program that ensures production availability to meet its customer demands and achieve its goal of becoming “a world-class midstream gas value chain company.” The organization has digitized its reliability and maintenance program by implementing Bentley’s AssetWise Asset Reliability solution. To reduce human intervention and avoid human fault analysis, the system leverages the inherent capabilities of AssetWise Asset Reliability to automate several processes including:


Ensuring the reliability, availability, and maintainability of the facilities down to the equipment level


Bad-actor analysis


Alert and email notification of equipment condition


Follow up reminder of RCA recommendation


Approval route for bad actor, RCA, RCM, and RBI


Automatic analysis and notifications for operator routine duties using handheld devices




The software utilizes these inputs to calculate reliability and availability of an individual asset based on an exponential reliability model. The weekly calculations are based on series and parallel configurations, which were previously performed monthly by a dedicated reliability engineer using Excel spreadsheets.




The system introduces digital workflows using handheld devices for routine operator duties to bridge the disconnect between engineers and field operators by mapping trends, monitoring operational parameters, and providing necessary technical support remotely. It also ensures that operational key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved by monitoring the compliance status regularly.




Bentley’s AssetWise Asset Reliability solution triggers an alert and email notification as soon as any value is out of range. With this technology, OGC has calculated a significant increase in reliability performance. This calculation is based on failure reduction against Mean Time to Repair and Cost of Lost Production Opportunity, which greatly impacts revenues and profits.

HONEYWELL UOP AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO ENGINEERING STUDENTS FROM CAIRO UNIVERSITY

CAIRO, Egypt, January 08, 2018 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) awarded scholarships to four chemical engineering students from Cairo University as a part of its ongoing commitment to develop and support young engineering talent in Egypt. Honeywell awarded the students at an event hosted by Cairo University.

“The recognition we have earned through the Honeywell UOP scholarship and internship program is a testament to the education we provide at Cairo University,” said Professor Ehab Abadir, head of Cairo University’s chemical engineering department. “We are very pleased with the Honeywell UOP initiative in the field of engineering with a particular focus on the oil and gas industry, enabling our students to learn about the industry in the Middle East as a whole. We look forward to further enhancing the Honeywell – Cairo University relationship in our future endeavors.”



The annual scholarship program, which commenced in 2016, is part of Honeywell’s investment in nurturing engineering talent in Egypt. This year the scholarship program was offered to Ahmed Yousry Muhammad, Omar Emad Khallaf, Esraa Ashraf Abdel-Alam and Mohamed Ahmed Khodeir, each who were selected after a rigorous interview process led by Honeywell UOP. In addition to the scholarship, the four students will compete for a seven-week internship placement program in the United States at Honeywell’s Research and Development Center near Chicago.



“Honeywell is committed to developing young talent in the engineering field in Egypt, and through our ongoing collaboration with Cairo University, we are able to recognize excellent academic potential,” said Khaled Hashem, president for Honeywell in Egypt and Libya. “With the oil and gas industry advancing rapidly, it is now vital to equip the younger generation with knowledge of the technological disruptions impacting the industry. The students received this scholarship at a ceremony in Cairo University.
