NetApp announces new data services and solutions for Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Salesforce that empower customers to innovate in the cloud



December 23, 2018 — NetApp, the data authority for hybrid cloud, has just wrapped up its annual, three-day conference to help data visionaries across industries and disciplines create their own data-driven journeys to better business outcomes. After four years in Berlin, the NetApp Insight® conference headed for Barcelona for the first time, hosting more than 4,000 attendees at the popular Fira Gran Via. From keynotes, spotlight and technical breakout sessions, Hands-On Labs, Insight Central, and a lot of networking, attendees were presented with all the news that matters when delivering innovation with cloud services, building cloud infrastructure to accelerate new services, and modernizing IT architectures with cloud-connected all-flash storage.




NetApp announced new data services and solutions that empower customers to innovate in the cloud, including the expanded availability of the Azure NetApp® Files preview, the expanded availability of NetApp Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud Platform, and NetApp SaaS Backup for Salesforce. This news was supported by keynotes from George Kurian, chief executive officer and president, and customers such as WuXi NextCODE, Coca Cola, and DreamWorks, who shared how data has a ubiquitous role in today’s business processes. Sharing a broader perspective on the ethics and implications of this digital transformation was Gerd Leonhard, one of the world’s most highly respected futurists.




NetApp also announced the support of a conference-themed charity initiative with a pledge to donate to the e-learning for kids campaign every time attendees used the conference hashtag #NetAppInsight over the course of the event. With the help of all attendees, NetApp will donate more than $8,000 in support of free and fun digital education for children worldwide.

عقدت "نت آب" (NetApp)، الجهة المرجعية لبيانات السحابة الهجينة، مؤتمرها السنوي "نت آب إنسايت" (NetApp Insight) لمساعدة مختصي البيانات ذوي الرؤية في مختلف القطاعات والتخصصات على تطوير رحلاتهم الخاصة القائمة على البيانات من أجل تعزيز نتائج الأعمال على نحو أفضل. وبعد مضي أربع سنوات على إقامته في برلين، أقيم مؤتمر "نت آب أنسايت" لأول مرة في برشلونة، حيث استضاف وعلى مدى ثلاثة أيام، أكثر من 4.000 مشارك في مركز فيرا غران فيا للمؤتمرات. وتم خلال الحدث إطلاع الحضور على كافة الأخبار والمعلومات التي تهمهم في مجال الابتكار باستخدام الخدمات الذكية، وبناء البنية التحتية السحابية لتسريع الخدمات الجديدة، وتحديث بنى تكنولوجيا المعلومات باستخدام أنظمة التخزين السحابي بالذواكر الضوئية، حيث ألقيت من أجل هذا الغرض كلمات رئيسية وعقدت جلسات فرعية فنية وعروض "هاندس أون لابس" (Hands-On Labs) و"إنسايت سنترال" (Insight Central) والكثير من فعاليات التواصل.

APICORP announces USD100m worth of financing for Oman’s Duqm Refinery

Duqm Refinery is a joint venture between Kuwait Petroleum International and Oman Oil Company



Dammam, Saudi Arabia 23 December 2018: The Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP), a multilateral development bank, is pleased to announce a USD100m investment as part of a consortium of international and regional banks to finance the construction of Oman’s Duqm Refinery.

Situated within the Duqm Special Economic Zone the refinery is joint venture between Kuwait Petroleum International and Oman Oil Company. Duqm Refinery is a milestone project which will contribute to the transformation of Oman’s economy.

APICORP contributed USD100m to the financing of the refinery, USD50m sharia compliant, and USD50m conventional tranche. This is a demonstration of APICORP’s commitment to Oman with over USDD380m currently committed to the energy sector in country.

Today’s announcement continues APICORP’s collaboration with Kuwait, a 17% shareholder in APICORP, with a continued partnership in the financing of foreign investments in petrochemical projects such as MEGlobal in Canada and the Netherlands, and for Equipolymers in Switzerland, as well as the Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical plant in Vietnam.

Duqm Refinery is based in Al Duqm in the South East Al Wusta Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. A strategic maritime location providing immediate access to international shipping lanes in both the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, helps the process of transport in and out of the region and gives the project a significant competitive advantage. Duqm Refinery recently celebrated the laying of the foundation stone and the commencement of the USD5.75b construction work for the project. Once the refinery is completed, it will have the capacity to process around 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Its primary products will be diesel, jet fuel, naphtha and LPG.

الدمام، المملكة العربية السعودية، (23) ديسمبر 2018: أعلنت اليوم الشركة العربية للاستثمارات البترولية "ابيكورب"، البنك التنموي الداعم لقطاع الطاقة، عن توفيرها تمويلًا بقيمة 100 مليون دولار أمريكي ضمن مجموعة تمويلات مقدمة من عدد من المصارف والبنوك الدولية والاقليمية لمشروع مصفاة الدقم والصناعات البتروكيميائية في سلطنة عمان.


ويقع هذا المشروع في قلب المنطقة الاقتصادية الخاصة بالدقم، وينفذ بالشراكة بين شركة البترول الكويتية العالمية وشركة النفط العمانية. ويعد مشروع مصفاة الدقم أحد أهم المشاريع التي ستسهم بشكل كبير في التحول الاقتصادي في سلطنة عمان.


وساهمت ابيكورب في توفير تمويل بقيمة 100 مليون دولار للمشروع، حيث تمول 50 مليون دولار منها بما يتوافق مع أحكام الشريعة الإسلامية، و50 مليون دولار أخرى حسب شروط التمويل التقليدي. ويعكس هذا المشروع التزام ابيكورب الكامل بدعم وتطوير قطاع الطاقة في سلطنة عمان من خلال تخصيصها لتمويلات تربو على 380 مليون دولار أميركي لهذا السوق في الوقت الحالي.


ويعد هذا التمويل بمثابة تأكيد على العلاقة المتينة والمتواصلة التي تربط ابيكورب بدولة الكويت التي تمتلك نسبة 17% من أسهم شركة ابيكورب، ودعمها المتواصل لقطاع الطاقة الكويتي من خلال توفير المتطلبات التمويلية اللازمة للاستثمار في هذا القطاع. وتشمل هذه المشاريع البتروكيمائية لشركة MEGlobal في كندا وهولندا، ومشروع Equipolymers في سويسرا، وكذلك مصفاة ومحطة Nghi Son في فيتنام.

ويقع مشروع مصفاة الدقم في قلب المنطقة الاقتصادية الخاصة بالدقم على الساحل الجنوبي الشرقي للسلطنة. ويتميز الموقع بسهولة الوصول إلى ممرات الملاحة الدولية في المحيط الهندي وبحر العرب، مما يسهل عملية النقل داخل وخارج المنطقة، الأمر الذي يمنح المشروع ميزة تنافسية كبيرة. واحتفلت شركة مصفاة الدقم مؤخرًا بوضع حجر الأساس لمجمع المصفاة وبدء الأعمال الإنشائية بقيمة 5.75 مليار دولار أمريكي. وستعمل المصفاة بطاقة تكريرية تصل إلى 230 ألف برميل يومياً. وستنتج المصفاة شريحة واسعة من المشتقات النفطية كالديزل ووقود الطائرات والغاز المسال.

NYU Abu Dhabi-led cybersecurity research receives funding from Intel

The tech company’s funding will lead to secure computer chips, a significant leap forwards in global cybersecurity



Abu Dhabi, 23 December, 2018: The American technology giant, Intel Corporation, has awarded NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) a research grant of three years of funding, equating to $300,000 worth of support to support NYU Abu Dhabi Associate Dean of Engineering Ozgur Sinanoglu’s research into new ways of securely testing and configuring computer chips by third-party companies.



Sinanoglu’s research allows tech companies to obfuscate security critical data, such as the chip’s serial ID, by using a secret key pre-loaded onto the chip. Once hidden, a third-party company can test and configure each chip before being sold onto customers, yet with no access to the chip’s security critical data.



With the results of this research, hardware designers will be able to ensure that any chip they produce cannot be reverse-engineered by attackers. This will allow only authorized users to access the information on the chip. In addition, studies led by Sinanoglu aim to demonstrate the commercial viability of the new process by assessing low-cost obfuscation techniques and their integration across the electronic chip supply chain.



Intel’s support comes in the wake of research by Sinanoglu and his team at the NYUAD Design for Excellence Lab that led to the production of the world’s first un-hackable computer chip. First announced last year, the development was regarded as a major breakthrough for computer security.



Sinanoglu said: “The development of this obfuscation process represents a central breakthrough in the production of the computer chip. The NYUAD Design for Excellence team are immensely proud of the recognition that this project has received thus far. This support from Intel is a signal of the potential for this advancement in cybersecurity and its impact on the electronic chip supply chain.



“The funding vindicates the work being undertaken by our team, and the groundbreaking research happening at NYU Abu Dhabi. I look forward to collaborating with Intel on this project.”



The NYUAD Design for Excellence lab is leading global developments on cybersecurity, providing both industry bodies and academic circles with insights around securer and safer computer systems. These developments benefit not only the designers and manufacturers of IT technology, but also everyday consumers of products and services that use computer chips, from cars and aircraft to smartphones and medical equipment.
