Project about water management system for communities in the Amazon Rainforest succeeds against sixty other projects.
GROHE, founding partner of the World Architecture Festival (WAF), sponsors 10,000 pounds’ prize money for the research prize.
At WAF over 500 projects will be judged and the best completed design will win “World Building of the Year”.
CAIRO, 29 November 2018. Today, GROHE, a leading global brand for integrated bathroom solutions and kitchen faucets, and the World Architecture Festival (WAF) awarded the winner of the International Water Research Prize in Amsterdam, the Netherlands: On behalf of her students, Belen Desmaison, teaching fellow of the Pontificia Catholic University of Peru (PCUP), received the prize money of 10,000 pounds, sponsored by WAF founder partner GROHE. The presentation of the prize, which was awarded for the first time, took place at the three-day festival’s kick-off.
Project Provides Amazon Communities with Access to Water
GROHE and WAF awarded the prize to a small-community water management system in the Amazon Rainforest. The area has the world's highest precipitation rate per year, yet just under a third of its population has access to water. The PCUP team has developed a solution that collects, stores and processes rainwater using pipes. The project won against twelve competitors. The finalists on the competition’s shortlist were selected out of a total of 60 submissions.
Work on the production of a rainwater storage system continues
Belen Desmaison commented: “We are very grateful for this award as it will allow us and the communities in the Amazon Rainforest that work with us to continue to explore alternatives for the provision of water to peri-urban and rural areas. We aim to use this opportunity to work on the production of a rainwater storage system made using local materials and knowledge that can be easily integrated with traditional architectural typologies.”

We are proud to present the 10,000 pounds’ prize money for this research project.”
The Water Research Prize is Based on the WAF Manifesto
The Water Research Prize, which GROHE and WAF use to support the PCUP team’s existing research, is based on the WAF Manifesto published last year. It describes the most important challenges for architects within the next ten years. Proper handling of water is a top priority. Other categories include topics such as the aging of society and health, climate, energy and carbon, ethics and values, power and justice, smart cities, building technologies, recycling and virtual worlds.
Better Understanding of the Relationship Between Water and the Built Environment
“At GROHE, we want to contribute to a better understanding of how water relates to its built environment. As such, we're more than happy to support an architectural award that honours relevant research initiatives,” said Christopher Barger, Senior Vice President of Global Projects at GROHE. “I would like to thank the students of PCUP for bringing this specific water-related issue in the Amazon Rainforest to our attention. Architectural Awards in Over 30 Categories at the World's Largest Competition
In addition to other Manifesto-related awards, the WAF also honours numerous architecture awards. In 2018, a total of more than 500 projects from over 50 countries have been shortlisted for awards in more than 30 categories. During the three-day event the finalists present live to the panel of international jury across three days of live judging. With this, the WAF is the world's largest competition. As in the past year, GROHE sponsors the “World Building of the Year Award”, which will be presented on 30 November. In addition, GROHE supports the awards in the categories “Hotel and Leisure” and “Housing and Residential”.
Ideal Platform to Better Understand the Needs of Architects
“GROHE has partnered right from the beginning with the World Architecture Festival,” said Michael Seum. “For us, this is the ideal event to reach out to architects and building planners. أكثر من خمسمئة مشروع تتنافس خلال مهرجان العمارة العالمي للفوز بجائزة "البناء العالمي للعام"
القاهرة، في 29 ديسمبر 2018: قدّمت اليوم شركة "غروهي" الرائدة عالمياً في توفير الحلول المتكاملة للمطابخ والحمّامات، بالتعاون مع مهرجان العمارة العالمي "جائزة الأبحاث المائية" في أمستردام (هولندا) إلى طلاّب جامعة بونتيفيكا الكاثوليكية في البيرو التي تسلّمتها نيابة عنهم المدرّسة بيلين دسمايسون. الجائزة النقدية بقيمة عشرة آلاف جنيه كانت برعاية "غروهي"- الشريك المؤسس لمهرجان العمارة العالمي المستمرّ لثلاثة أيام وهي المرّة الأولى التي يتم تقديمها.
المشروع يوفّر فرصة الوصول للمياه لمجتمعات الأمازون
قدّمت "غروهي" ومهرجان العمارة العالمي الجائزة إلى مشروع نظام لإدارة الماء مصمّم لمجتمع صغير في غابات الأمازون. فهذه المنطقة تتميّز بأعلى نسبة متساقطات في العالم سنوياً، ومع ذلك أقل من ثلث سكانها تصلهم المياه. فقد نجح فريق طلاّب جامعة بونتيفيكا الكاثوليكية في البيرو بتطوير حل يجمّع مياه الأمطار ويخزّنها ويعالجها باستخدام الأنابيب. وقد تنافس مع 12 مشروعاً مرشحاً تم اختيارها من بين ستين مشروعاً دخل المسابقة.
يستمر العمل على إنتاج نظام تخزين مياه الأمطار
وحول الموضوع، قالت بيلين ديسمايسون: "نحن ممتنون جداً لأن هذه الجائزة ستتيح لنا ولمجتمعات غابات الأمازون المتعاونة معنا فرصة مواصلة استكشاف بدائل لتوفير مياه للمناطق شبه الحضرية والريفية. وسنستغنم هذه الفرصة لإنتاج نظام لتخزين مياه الأمطار باستخدام مواد ومعارف محلّية يسهل دمجها مع النماذج المعمارية التقليدية."
"غروهي" فخورة بدعمها لاستحداث الحلول العملية والمبتكرة
ومن جهته، قال مايكل سيان، نائب رئيس قسم التصميم في "غروهي": "في البداية، عندما كنا ننظر في مشاريع معالجة شح المياه، لم أتخيل أن يترشّح مشروع الأمازون في البيرو. إلاّ أن هذا المشروع المدروس بعناية سلّط الضوء على حقيقة مفادها أن أقل من ثلث سكان هذه المنطقة تصلهم المياه. كما أن اقتراح نظام مشترك لإدارة الماء يجمع الشبكات المتوفّرة سابقاً يبدو حلّاً عملياً ومبتكراً. ونحن فخورون بتقديم جائزة نقدية بقيمة عشرة آلاف جنيه لهذا المشروع البحثي".
جائزة الأبحاث المائية تستند إلى بيان مهرجان العمارة العالمي
تستند جائزة الأبحاث المائية، التي تستخدمها "غروهي" ومهرجان العمارة العالمي لدعم البحث الحالي الذي قام به فريق طلاب جامعة بونتيفيكا الكاثوليكية في البيرو، إلى بيان مهرجان العمارة العالمي المنشور في العام الماضي. وهو يصف أبرز التحديات التي سيواجهها المهندسون المعماريون في السنوات العشر المقبلة، حيث يتصدّر التعامل السليم مع الماء سلّم الأولويات. وتتضمن سائر الفئات قضايا أخرى منها شيخوخة المجتمع والصحة، المناخ، الطاقة وبصمة الكربون، الأخلاقيات والقيم، السلطة والعدالة، المدن الذكية، تقنيات البناء، وإعادة التدوير والعوالم الافتراضية.
فهم أفضل للعلاقة التي تربط المياه بالبيئة العمرانية
وحول الموضوع، قال كريستوفر بارغر، نائب الرئيس الأول للمشاريع العالمية في شركة "غروهي": "نحن في غروهي، نسعى إلى المساهمة في تقديم فهم أعمق لكيفية ارتباط المياه ببيئتها العمرانية. لذا، نحن سعداء بتقديم الدعم لجائزة العمارة التي تكرّم المبادرات البحثية المتمحورة حول الماء"، مضيفاً: "نشكر طلاب جامعة بونتيفيكا الكاثوليكية في البيرو الذين لفتوا انتباهنا لقضية الماء في غابات الأمازون وأهنئهم على الحل المبتكر الذي طوّروه لهذه المشكلة".
الجوائز المعمارية في أكثر من 30 فئة خلال أضخم منافسة عالمية
وإضافة إلى سائر الجوائز المرتبطة ببيان مهرجان العمارة العالمي، يكرّم هذا المهرجان عدة جوائز معمارية. ففي العام 2018، تم اختيار أكثر من خمسمئة مشروع مقدّم من خمسين دولة ترشح لنيل جوائز ضمن أكثر من ثلاثين فئة. وطوال مدة المهرجان المستمر لثلاثة أيام، يقدم المتسابقون الذين بلغوا المراحل النهائية مشاريعهم مباشرةً إلى لجنة التحكيم الدولية طوال الأيام الثلاثة للتحكيم المباشر. لذا بعتبر مهرجان العمارة العالمي أضخم منافسة عالمية. وكما في العام الماضي، ترعى "غروهي" جائزة "أفضل مبنى في العالم لهذا العام" التي ستعرض في 30 نوفمبر. كما تقدّم "غروهي" دعمها لجوائز أخرى ضمن فئات "الفنادق والمرافق الترفيهية" و"الإسكان والمباني السكنية".
منصة مثالية لفهم احتياجات المهندسين المعماريين بشكل أعمق
وأضاف مايكل سيوم: "حرصت "غروهي" منذ البداية على التعاون مع مهرجان العمارة العالمي. فنحن نعتبره الحدث المثالي للوصول إلى المهندسين المعماريين ومصمّمي الأبينية. وهدفنا طبعاً هو فهم أعمق لاحتياجاتهم لنتمكّن من مساعدتهم في عملهم". فقد يتسنّى للمهندسين المعماريين تجربة العديد من منتجات "غروهي" التي عادة ما يوصّفونها في المباني بشكل مباشر في منصة "غروهي" ضمن مهرجان العمارة العالمي في الجناح B10.
