letstango.com’s total sales for 2017 expected to grow by three to five times higher than growth posted in 2016

August 10, 2017 – ‘letstango.com’, a UAE-based online marketplace, has announced that its estimated total sales is expected to grow by more than three to five times this year as compared to the growth it posted in 2016. The company’s upbeat attitude shows that its expected positive performance will represent a strategic portion of the MENA region’s growing e-commerce sector, which has posted continuous growth over the last few years as well.

The company continues to record a strong financial performance and steadily growing transactions. The premier online platform’s sales volume has tripled over the past four years, with its number of visitors and orders growing five and eight times, respectively. The future outlook for the online retail marketplace still remains positive, in spite of challenges that include rising site traffic, products, orders, and conversions.

The price-to-sales multiple is 2.6 times. Investment rounds in similar early-stage companies in the region have been within the range of 3 to 5 times price-to-sales ratio.

According to ‘letstango.com’, the extra capital will be utilized in the next year to fund numerous key projects, including investments in iOS and Android apps and development of the Arabic version of its website. A big chunk of the money will also go to brand-building and marketing initiatives; establishing a wider and deeper core management, operations and procurement team; and creating the needed infrastructure to support its entry to the Saudi market in the fourth quarter of this year. Through the funds, the online marketplace is eyeing merchant empanelment, rapid stock-keeping unit (SKU) growth, and improved supply chain and delivery logistics services as well.

ABB to upgrade Sweden-Germany HVDC power transmission link

Zurich, Switzerland, August 9, 2017 – Baltic Cable link modernization to include latest ABB Ability™ MACH™ control system and support energy exchange

ABB has won an order from Baltic Cable AB, a subsidiary of Norway based Statkraft, one of Europe's leading renewable energy generators to upgrade the Baltic Cable high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link. This link runs beneath the Baltic Sea and interconnects the electricity grids of Germany and Sweden. As part of the modernization project, ABB will upgrade the control and protection system of the link, with its latest ABB Ability MACH technology.

The 250 kilometer long, subsea transmission link, has a capacity of 600 megawatts and a voltage of 450 kilovolts (kV) – the highest operating voltage in Germany. Built in 1994 to enhance the efficiency of power utilization, the link takes advantage of the differing patterns of power generation and consumption in Sweden and Germany, pooling energy resources and facilitating the exchange of electricity.

The upgraded MACH control system acts like the brain of the HVDC link by monitoring, controlling and protecting the sophisticated technology in the converter stations. It incorporates advanced fault registration and remote control functions. ABB will also replace other aging equipment to boost efficiency and reliability.

جارتنر: 75% من المؤسسات على استعداد لدفع مبالغ أكبر لقاء الاستفادة من قدرات شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية 5G

الاتصالات الخاصة بإنترنت الأشياء هي الاستخدام الأول والأبرز لشبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية 

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 10 أغسطس 2017: أشارت دراسة استطلاعية عالمية أجرتها مؤخراً مؤسسة الدراسات والأبحاث العالمية جارتنر إلى أن 75 بالمائة من المؤسسات على استعداد لدفع مبالغ أكبر للتمتع بقدرات شبكات اتصالات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية5G؛ في حين أشار 24 بالمائة فقط من المستطلعين إلى عدم رغبتهم بدفع مبالغ إضافية لاتصالات الجيل الخامس 5G مقارنة بتلك الخاصة بخدمات اتصالات الجيل الرابع 4G. 

وفي هذا السياق قال سيلفان فابري، مدير الأبحاث لدى جارتنر: "إن الشركات العاملة في قطاع الاتصالات على استعداد على الأرجح لدفع مبالغ أكبر مقارنةً بالشركات العاملة في قطاعات وصناعات أخرى. فعلى سبيل المثال، نجد أن مؤسسات المستخدم النهائي في قطاعات التصنيع والخدمات والهيئات الحكومية أقل استعدادً لدفع مبالغ إضافية للتمتع بمزايا شبكات الجيل الخامس مقارنةً بشركات الاتصالات الراغبة بالدفع للاستفادة من مزايا شبكات الجيل الخامس على صعيد استخداماتها الداخلية".

وبالإضافة إلى تقديم أسعار أفضل للصناعات التي تمتاز بمستخدمين أقل قناعةً بالمزايا التجارية لشبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية، ينبغي على شركات توريد خدمات الاتصالات توفير عروض قيّمة من شأنها تشجيع العملاء ودفعهم لاعتماد خدمات شبكات اتصالات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية بشكل أسرع. 

وعلى الرغم من أن معظم المشاركين في الاستطلاع يعتقدون بأن مؤسساتهم مستعدة لدفع مبالغ إضافية للتمتع بمزايا شبكات اتصالات الجيل الخامس، إلا أن قلة منهم (8 بالمائة) يتوقعون أن تحقق شبكات الجيل الخامس وفورات في التكاليف أو زيادةً في الإيرادات. وبشكل رئيسي، يُنظر إلى اتصالات الجيل الخامس على أنها ثورة رائدة في عالم الشبكات (59 بالمائة)، أما على الصعيد الثانوي فيُنظر إليها على أنها من عوامل تمكين الأعمال الرقمية (37 بالمائة). كما أبرزت نتائج الاستطلاع أيضاً أن المشاركين العاملين في قطاع الاتصالات هم أقل قناعةً بأن شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية ستعزز من مستوى الإيرادات، مقارنةً بالمشاركين العاملين في القطاعات والصناعات الأخرى، وهو ما تطرق إليه سيلفان فابري قائلاً: "تميل هذه الفئة إلى اعتبار عملية التحول للاستفادة من خدمات شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية جاءت على سبيل التغيير التدريجي والحتمي للبنية التحتية، عوضاً عن النظر إليها كفرصة لتوليد العوائد الجديدة".

اتصالات إنترنت الأشياء هي الاستخدام الأول والأبرز لشبكات اتصالات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية 

أظهرت نتائج الاستطلاع أن حوالي نصف المشاركين يرغبون باستخدام شبكات الجيل الخامس لمشاهدة مقاطع الفيديو، والتمتع بالقدرات والخصائص اللاسلكية الثابتة. ومن المثير للاهتمام أن غالبية المشاركين (57 بالمائة) يعتقدون بأن الهدف الرئيسي الذي يقف وراء إقدام مؤسساتهم على استخدام شبكات الجيل الخامس يكمن في دفع مسيرة نمو اتصالات إنترنت الأشياء.

وتطرق سيلفان فابري لهذه النقطة قائلاً: "هذه النتائج مثيرة للدهشة، حيث أن عدد "الأشياء" التي تم نشرها وتوزيعها لا تحتاج إلى اتصالاتتتجاوز قدرة ونطاق اتصالات إنترنت الأشياء القائمة حالياً في معظم المناطق، وحتى العام 2023. وحتى لو تم تنفيذها وتطبيقها بشكل شامل ومتكامل، فإن اتصالات شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية ستلبي متطلبات مجموعة بسيطة من حالات الاستخدام الخاصة بإنترنت الأشياء والتي تتطلب وجود مزيج حيوي وتفاعلي بين المعدلات العالية جداً للبيانات، وزمن الوصول السريع جداً. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، لن تصبح شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية جاهزة لدعم الاتصالات الهائلة للآلات، أو الاتصالات فائقة الاعتمادية، أو الاتصالات التي تتمتع بزمن وصول سريع، حتى أوائل العام 2020". وقد تشير هذه النتيجة أيضاً إلى وجود حالة من الارتباك حول مدى قابلية تطبيق شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية، فقد أظهرت العديد من البدائل المعتمدة والأقل كلفةً فعاليتها بالنسبة لربط تقنيات إنترنت الاشياء لاسلكياً، بما فيها استخدام شبكات الواي فاي اللاسلكية، أو شبكات زيغبي، أو شبكات البلوتوث، فهذه الخيارات، على سبيل المثال، قادرة على تجنب الكلفة والتعقيد التي ترافق الاتصالات الخلوية.

هناك على الأرجح درجة الفهم واضحة وجلية من سوء تتمثل في اعتقاد الغالبية العظمى من المشاركين بالاستطلاع (84 بالمائة) أن شبكات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية ستكون متاحة على نطاق واسع بحلول العام 2020. وعلى النقيض تماماً، تشير الخطط الموضوعة من قبل شركات توريد خدمات الاتصالات إلى أن توافر خدمات اتصالات الجيل الخامس على نطاق واسع لن يتحقق قبل العام 2022.

كما تشير توقعات مؤسسة جارتنر إلى أن 3 بالمائة فقط من شركات توريد خدمات الاتصالات العالمية، والتي تملك شبكاتها الخلوية الخاصة، ستتمكن من إطلاق اتصالات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية بشكل تجاري بحلول العام 2020. وهو ما أكده سيلفان فابري بقوله: "رغم توفر معدات الشبكات التجارية المتوافقة مع المعايير بحلول العام 2019، إلا أنه من المرجح استعانة شركات توريد خدمات الاتصالات بمعدات غير متوافقة مع المعايير لإطلاق شبكات وخدمات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية قبل العام 2019".

استناداً على ما سبق، ينبغي على مؤسسات التسويق المرتبطة بشركات توريد خدمات الاتصالات وضع خرائط طرق واقعية لمجال التغطية والأداء النموذجي الذي تقدمه اتصالات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية كي يقدموا للعملاء معلومات دقيقة. كما يتوجب عليهم نشر خطط واضحة لآلية طرح ونشر شبكات الجيل الخامس خلال السنوات ما بين 2019-2021، لمساعدة المبتكرين والمصممين على فهم زمان ومكان توفر خدمات الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية لاستثمارها من قبل تطبيقات إنترنت الأشياء.

FDA Allows WIN Consortium to Proceed with Targeted Tri-Therapy Clinical Trial in First Line Treatment of Metastatic Non Small Cell Lung Cancer

VILLEJUIF, France--(BUSINESS WIRE/AETOS Wire)-- WIN Consortium (WIN) received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s approval to start the clinical investigation of a novel therapeutic approach using a combination of three targeted therapies for the first line treatment of patients with advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). The Survival Prolongation by Rationale Innovative Genomics (SPRING) trial will aim to enroll patients who are usually offered first line platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients with documented targetable driver alterations (EGFR mutations, ALK rearrangements, ROS1 and MET exon 14 skipping mutations) will be excluded. The population of NSCLC patients without actionable oncogenic driver mutations, envisioned for the enrollment in SPRING trial, represents the vast majority of patients with metastatic NSCLC (~80% in the Caucasian population).

With over 60% of NSCLC detected in an advanced or metastatic stage, and less than 5% of patients alive at 5 years, a paradigm changing strategy for treating the deadliest cancer is needed. WIN’s novel approach is based on the utilization of the tri-therapy combination of targeted drugs, following the historical success of this approach in AIDS and tuberculosis. Similarly, our concept relies on the association of three targeted drugs that used in combination are expected to be highly potent, whereas used alone in monotherapy they produce only modest clinical outcome.

SPRING’s investigator initiated research will be led by Dr. Razelle Kurzrock (University of California San Diego, Moores Cancer Center) and co-led by Dr. Enriqueta Felip (Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology) and is planned to be launched in 5 countries and 8 WIN member sites: University of California San Diego Moores Cancer Center and Avera Cancer Institute (Dr. Benjamin Solomon), USA; Institut Curie (Dr. Nicolas Girard), Centre Léon Bérard (Dr. Pierre Saintigny) and Hôpital Paris Saint-Joseph (Dr. Eric Raymond), France; Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology, Spain; Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (Dr. Guy Berchem); and Chaim Sheba Medical Center (Dr. Jair Bar), Israel.

The SPRING trial will start with a Phase I portion to explore the safety of the combination and determine the optimal doses for the Phase II that will explore the efficacy of this tri-therapy regimen in first line treatment of metastatic NSCLC. The trial will also aim to validate a novel algorithm SIMS (Simplified Interventional Mapping System) developed by WIN and designed to match each patient’s tumor biology to a specific drug combination. For this purpose, both tumor and normal lung tissue biopsies will be obtained and explored in the SPRING trial. DNA and RNA analysis will be performed by Dr. Brandon Young at Avera WIN Precision Oncology Laboratory in San Marcos, California on biopsies using, respectively, Illumina NGS (next generation sequencing) and HTG Molecular’s expression (mRNA and microRNA) EdgeSeq technology used in conjuction with Illumina (NGS). Data integration for the SIMS algorithm will be performed by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Dr. Eitan Rubin), Israel.

وقال الدكتور جون مندلسون، رئيس مجلس إدارة "وين": "مع ذلك، إنه لمن الأهمية بمكان الاعتراف بوجود فرق كبير بين السرطان والإيدز حيث يكمن في التعقيد والتباين البيولوجي الكبير لمرض السرطان مقارنة بالإيدز. ففي علاج مرض الإيدز، يكون استخدام مجموعة واحدة ثلاثية العلاجات فعالاً لغالبية المرضى، في حين يُتوقع أن يحتاج علاج مرض السرطان إلى عدة مجموعات من العلاجات لمعالجة جميع المرضى بشكل فعال. وطوّرت ’وين كونسورتيوم‘ تقنيات جديدة لتخصيص مجموعات العلاجات لكل مريض على حدة. وبالتالي، تُعتبر تجربة ’وين‘، التي تحمل اسم ’سبرينج‘ دليلاً أولياً لمفهوم هذه المنهجية الحديثة في علاج سرطان الرئة، وستُختبر كأول مجموعة علاجات ثلاثية من قبل أعضاء ’وين‘ من الشركات الدوائية الرئيسية، والتي تتضمن ’أفيلوماب‘ من ’ميرك‘ مع ’بالبوسيكليب‘ و’أكسيتينيب‘ من ’فايزر‘".

وستقود البحث الأولي الذي أطلقه باحثو "سبرينج" الدكتورة رازيل كورزروك (جامعة كاليفورنيا سان دييغو، مركز مورز لأمراض السرطان) بمساعدة الدكتور إنريكيتا فيليب (معهد فال دي هيبرون للأورام السرطانية) ومن المخطط إطلاقه في 5 دول و8 مواقع خاصة بأعضاء شركة "وين"، حيث تتضمن جامعة كاليفورنيا سان دييغو، مركز مورز لأمراض السرطان؛ ومعهد أفيرا لأمراض السرطان (الدكتور بنجامين سولومون)، في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية؛ ومعهد كوري (الدكتور نيكولاس جيرارد)؛ ومركز ليون بيرارد (الدكتور بيير ساينتيجني)؛ ومستشفى باريس سان جوزيف (الدكتور إريك رايموند)، في فرنسا؛ ومعهد فال دي هيبرون للأورام السرطانية، في إسبانيا؛ ومركز هوسبيتلير دو لوكسمبورغ (الدكتور جاي بيرشيم)؛ ومركز شايم شيبا الطبي (الدكتور جير بار)، في إسرائيل.

وستبدأ تجربة "سبرينج" بجزء المرحلة الأولى لاستكشاف سلامة مجموعة العالجات وتحديد الجرعات المثلى للمرحلة الثانية التي ستستكشف فعالية نظام العلاج الثلاثي هذا في خط العلاج الأول لسرطان الرئة غير صغير الخلايا النقيلي. وستهدف التجربة أيضاً إلى التحقق من صحة خوارزميات "إس آي إم إس" الحديثة (نظام مبسّط لرسم خرائط التدخلات) الذي طوّرته وصمّمته "وين" للقيام بعملية المطابقة الحيوية بين الأورام لدى كل مريض مع مجموعة معين من العلاجات. ولتحقيق هذه الغاية، ستؤخذ خزعات من الأنسجة المصابة بأورام والأنسجة الطبيعية وسيجري استكشافها في تجربة "سبرينج". وسيتم إجراء تحليلات الحمض النووي الريبي منقوص الأوكسجين "دي إن إيه" والحمض النووي الريبي "آر إن إيه" من قبل الدكتور براندون يونغ، في مختبرات أفيرا بريسيشن لأمراض السرطان التابعة لـ "وين" في سان ماركوس بكاليفورنيا، على خرعٍ باستخدام التقنيات التالية على التوالي: تقنية "إلومينا إن جي إس" (الجيل التالي من تقنيات التسلسل الجيني) وتعبيرات تقنية "إيدج سيك" من "إتش تي جي موليكيولار" (الحمض النووي الريبي المرسال "إم آر إن إيه" والحمض النووي الريبي المصغر "ميكرو آر إن إيه") المستخدمة بالتزامن مع تقنية "إلومينا إن جي إس". وستجري عملية تكامل البيانات لخوارزمية نظام "إس آي إم إس" في جامعة بن جوريون في النقب بإسرائيل (من قبل الدكتور إيتان روبن).

وقال الدكتور فلاديمير لازار، الرئيس التنفيذي للشؤون العلمية والتشغيلية في "وين": "نشهد تعاوناً غير مسبوق بين أعضاء ’وين‘ من المنظمات الأكاديمية والصناعية والمعنية بالأبحاث. وستقوم ثمانية مواقع سريرية بتفعيل الدراسة، وستتوفر الأدوية من ’فايزر‘ وستجري ’إلومينا‘و’إتش تي جي موليكيولار‘ تقنيات تحليل الحمض النووي الريبي منقوص الأوكسجين "دي إن إيه" والحمض النووي الريبي "آر إن إيه"، بينما توفّر’كوفانس‘ القياسات الحيوية والسلامة الدوائية. ونتوجّه بالشكر بشكل خاص إلى ’فاوندايشن إيه آر سي‘ للبحث السرطاني في فرنسا على الدعم المالي للبدء بتجربة ’سبرينج‘. ونرحّب بدعم أي منظمة أخرى أو أي متبرعٍ خاص يرغب بالانضمام لهذا الجهد العالمي الفريد من نوعه والمخصص لمرضى سرطان الرئة".

وقالت الدكتورة رازيل كورزروك، المنسقة العالمية للتجارب، ورئيسة لجنة التجارب السريرية في "وين": "من المشوق جداً رؤية تحوّل هذه الجهود إلى أمرٍ ملموس إضافةً إلى تجسّد هذا التعاون غير المسبوق. ونتطلع إلى تفعيل مواقعنا السريرية، كما سنحتاج إلى إطلاق المزيد من مجموعات العلاجات بسرعة وإلى انضمام شركات أدويةٍ أُخرى إلينا في إنجاز هذا العمل. وتملك "وين" القدرة والخبرة لاختبار مجموعات علاجاتٍ أخرى ولديها التقنيات المطلوبة بعملية المطابقة الحيوية بين الأورام لدى كل مريض مع مجموعة علاجاتٍ مناسبةٍ من الأدوية".

EXPO 2020 DUBAI: SMEs RECEIVE OVER 50% OF 2017 AWARDED CONTRACTS

• Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) receive more than 50% of awarded Expo 2020 Dubai contracts, according to the latest Big 5 Dubai report.

The latest Expo 2020 Dubai report, prepared by The Big 5 Dubai, reveals that more than 15,000 businesses have registered their interest on Expo 2020 Dubai’s online procurement portal, and that USD3bn in contracts are expected in 47 awards over 2017.

Around 70% of the firms registered as suppliers are SMEs and as of June this year they had won more than 50% of the contracts awarded. This preference is energized by the 2016 UAE Ministry of Economy announcement that SMEs engaged in the project will receive up to 20% of total direct and indirect spending, an estimated USD1.36bn in contracts.

Future opportunities related to Expo 2020 include crucial construction logistics packages that are to be awarded in January 2018; including those for a delivery management system, a waste management contractor and temporary utilities installations. 

The final portion of packages, which are also scheduled to be awarded next year, is the Horizontal/Infrastructure/Site Wide/Construction Packages. These packages include elements for the public realm spaces such as landscaping and vertical transportation.

Set on a 438 hectare site, Expo 2020 Dubai will open to the public on 20 October 2020. Construction on the site is expected to be completed a year earlier, by October 2019. Of all the built assets, 80% will be reused after the event.

‘Connecting minds, Creating the Future’ is the theme of Dubai Expo 2020, underpinned by the three sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Fulfilling the latter focus, Expo 2020 will draw at least 50 percent of power from renewable energy sources, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and will receive support from official sustainability partner, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

Organizers of Expo 2020 Dubai are adamant on complying with local green building regulations and contributing to LEED accreditation, as well as driving compliance with ISO 20121:2012, which specifies requirements for an event sustainability management system.

Their ability to support organisers sustainability standards saw UAE contractor Al Futtaim Carillion secure the main construction contract for the development of the Theme Districts. The candidate beat 35 other bidders to secure contract which was worth just shy of USD 600m.

“The link between renewable energy, sustainable measures and the construction sector is connectivity” observes Portfolio Director of The Big 5 Dubai, Josine Heijmans. Discussing the impact of Expo 2020 Dubai themes on the industry, she goes on to announce that “the adoption of new building technologies is vital in moving forward.”

The Expo 2020 Dubai report is released ahead of The Big 5 Dubai, which will run from 26 – 29 November at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The largest construction event in the Middle East, it will showcase the most innovative solutions for the built environment from around the world.

It will feature the Excellence in Construction Summit where Vice President of Real Estate for Expo 2020 Dubai, Ahmed Al Khatib, will be a VIP speaker. Ahmed Al Khatib is responsible for the delivery and management of the Expo site masterplan and is involved in managing the sustainability of the site.

As well as an all new HVAC dedicated hall, and the Innovation in Precast Summit, there will be live products demonstrations, and the return of the industry’s most respected 10th edition of the Gaia Awards which are committed to escalating sustainable interests in the construction sector. 

In further pursuit of green building trends, The Big 5 Dubai 2017 will be co-located with The Big 5 Solar event, under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy. Featuring technologies from leading PV manufacturing countries, The Big 5 Solar is set to become the premier event for solar industry professionals.

Additionally, the event will offer a broad educational agenda with world-class knowledge-sharing CPD (Continued Professional Development) certified talks covering six featured themes including Technology, Architecture, Sustainability and Project Management.
