Imdaad signs MoU with Al nokhba Model School in Dubai to build state-of-the-art STEM laboratory and library

In line with H.H. Sheikh Khalifa’s move declaring 2017 as ‘Year of Giving’

January 14, 2017 – As part of its contributions to help improve human capital skills in the country in accordance with UAE Vision 2021, Imdaad, the GCC’s leading integrated facilities management (FM) company based in Dubai, has expressed its optimism for the year 2017 and has forged a strategic partnership with Al nokhba Model School in Dubai to convert a huge hall at the school’s campus into a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) laboratory and a library to encourage reading. Imdaad signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with Al nokhba Model School to formalize the joint public-private venture that is expected to prepare students across the Arab state for the jobs of the future.

The company’s latest partnership is the leading FM firm’s response to UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s move declaring 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving.’ The national initiative focuses on three main pillars, namely creating a sense of community responsibility in the private sector, enhancing the spirit of volunteering and encouraging specialized volunteer programs, and instilling loyalty and commitment in the next generations to serve their country.

By investing in the cutting-edge STEM laboratory, Imdaad is demonstrating its unwavering dedication to take on worthy causes that will have far-reaching benefits for the whole society. STEM has emerged as an important and indispensable component of the UAE’s shift towards a knowledge-driven economic framework. Additionally, the government’s heavy investments in this field is its proactive response to the global need for smart and alert students who will be qualified to join the burgeoning sectors of renewable energy, oil and gas, construction, real estate, finance, information technology, medicine technology, and health, among others, in the future. In the UAE, of the 43,000 students enrolled in higher education in 2013, only 30 per cent were in STEM-related fields.

وقال جمال عبدالله لوتاه، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ "إمداد": "تجسد خطة بناء مكتبة متطورة ومختبر حديث لـ "العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات" المساعي المشتركة بين "إمداد" و"مدرسة النخبة النموذجية" لتشجيع الطلبة في دولة الإمارات على الالتحاق بالبرامج الأكاديمية في "العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات" خلال مرحلة التعليم العالي، فضلاً عن تحفيزهم على القراءة وحب المعرفة التي تلعب دوراً مؤثراً في إرساء أسس التنمية الحضارية."

Emirates Talent Association launches ‘Local Programmer’ initiative in cooperation with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University & Microsoft

UAE, January 14, 2017 – Emirates Talent Association, in cooperation with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) and Microsoft, has officially launched today (Saturday, January 14, 2017) the ‘Local Programmer’ initiative. The program was launched in the presence of H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police, General Security in Dubai, and Chairman of the University’s Board of Governors and Chairman of the Emirates Talent Association, receiving praise from UAE-wide educational and academic circles. The initiative will boost national efforts aimed at achieving the goals of UAE Vision 2021 in harnessing the potential of local human capital and investing in the promising talents in innovation, leadership and knowledge in order to make the UAE one of the world’s most advanced countries.

The ‘Local Programmer’ initiative has garnered remarkable interest as it is aimed at building generations of Emirati programmers who are adept in the modern technology. The innovative program will provide training on programming through designing games, digital and electronic applications using Microsoft software and Cloud Campus platform to talented students between the age of 7 and 15 years. It is a proactive step that will promote innovation, inquisitiveness, and cooperation among students when dealing with the new technology.

The new program is like a gateway that will enable students to master the programming and computational thinking systems, acquire basic skills of developing applications and electronic and digital games, and write software in TouchDevelop and KODU languages. It follows an innovative methodology that encourages exploring and learning through experience and practice in an interactive and entertaining manner, reinforcing confidence in students to deal with modern technology. This has emerged as a key priority to advance the smart transformation process in the UAE and keep up with requirements of the 21st century.

H.E. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, said: “The ‘Local Programmer’ initiative reflects the success of the Emirates Talent Association in embodying the visions related to investment in local human talent. The ‘Local Programmer’ initiative will conduct training workshops on every Saturday from January 14, 2017 until February 11, 2017. These workshops will be based on ‘Blended Learning’ which is adopted by HBMSU as well as virtual activities via the ‘Cloud Campus.’ The program depends on self-learning system and sources of learning within the classroom, providing greater flexibility for students by attending lessons, whether in the classroom or online via the ‘Cloud Campus’ by using any modern Internet browser on smartphones, tablets and PCs.

The ‘Local Programmer’ initiative is composed of three levels. The first level offers ‘Introduction to Computer Programming Certificate,’ which provides students with the basics of computer programming skills, while the second level awards ‘Digital Games and Applications Development Certificate,’ centering on the idea to create electronic applications and games. The third level enables students to obtain ‘Advanced Level of Developing Electronic Games and Applications.’ The program will also organize the ‘Computer Language Programming Competition’ in partnership with Microsoft, allowing students the opportunity to compete for the title of the ‘Innovative Programmer’ and ‘Hackathon.’

الإمارات، 14 يناير2017  – في دفعة قوية لمسيرة بناء جيل مبتكر قادر على قيادة التحول نحو اقتصاد معرفي تنافسي، أطلقت "جمعية الإمارات لرعاية الموهوبين" في إطار التعاون المثمر مع "جامعة حمدان بن محمد الذكية" وشركة "مايكروسوفت" العالمية اليوم (14 كانون الثاني/يناير 2017) رسمياً مبادرة "المبرمج المواطن". وانطلق البرنامج النوعي بحضور معالي الفريق ضاحي خلفان تميم، نائب رئيس الشرطة والأمن العام بدبي، رئيس مجلس أمناء الجامعة ورئيس "جمعية الإمارات لرعاية الموهوبين"، ووسط إشادة واسعة من الأوساط التعليمية والأكاديمية كونه خطوة داعمة للجهود الوطنية لترجمة "رؤية الإمارات 2021" في توظيف الطاقات الكامنة لرأس المال البشري المواطن والاستثمار في المواهب الواعدة في الابتكار والريادة والمعرفة، وصولاً بالدولة إلى مصاف الأمم الأكثر تقدماً في العالم.

ويحظى "المبرمج المواطن" بإهتمام لافت كونه يستند إلى منهجية تستهدف بناء أجيال من المبرمجين المواطنين الذين يمتلكون زمام التكنولوجيا الحديثة ، ويستند البرنامج المبتكر إلى تدريب الطلاب الموهوبين، من الفئة العمرية بين 7 و15 عاماً، على البرمجة بلغة الحاسوب من خلال تصميم الألعاب والتطبيقات الرقمية والإلكترونية وباستخدام بيئة البرامج الخاصة بـ "مايكروسوفت" (Microsoft) ومنصة "الحرم الجامعي السحابي" (Cloud Campus)، في خطوة سبّاقة من شأنها تعزيز الابتكار والفضول المعرفي والتعاون لدى الطلاب فيما يتعلق بالتعامل الأمثل مع التكنولوجيا المتطورة.

وتنبثق أهمية البرنامج الجديد من كونه مدخلاً لتمكين الطلاب من إتقان البرمجة ونظم التفكير الحاسوبية واكتساب أساسيات تطوير التطبيقات والألعاب الإلكترونية والرقمية وكتابة البرامج بلغتي (TouchDevelop) و(KODU)، وذلك وفق منهجية ابتكارية تشجع على الاستكشاف والتعلم عن طريق التجربة والممارسة بأسلوب جذاب وممتع وترسخ الثقة في نفوس الطلاب بشأن التعامل مع التكنولوجيا الحديثة، التي تعتبر اليوم مطلباً ملّحاً لدفع عجلة التحوّل الذكي في دولة الإمارات ومواكبة متطلبات القرن الحادي والعشرين.

ويتخلل "المبرمج المواطن" سلسلة ورشات تدريبية ستقام كل يوم سبت في الفترة بين 14 كانون الثاني/يناير الجاري و11 شباط/فبراير المقبل، والتي تستند بمجملها إلى نموذج "التعليم المدمج" المتّبع لدى "جامعة حمدان بن محمد الذكية"، علاوة على أنشطة افتراضية عبر "منصة التعليم المجتمعي الذكي". ويعتمد البرنامج على أسلوب التعليم الذاتي ومصادر التعلم ضمن قاعة الدراسة، ما يوفر مرونة أكبر للطلاب من خلال حضور الدروس سواء في قاعة الدراسة أو إلكترونياً عبر "منصة التعليم المجتمعي الذكي"، وذلك بواسطة أي متصفح حديث لشبكة الإنترنت على الهواتف الذكية والأجهزة اللوحية والحواسب المكتبية.

ويجدر الذكر بأنّ "المبرمج المواطن" يقوم على 3 مستويات، يشمل المستوى الأولى الحصول على "شهادة مدخل إلى البرمجة بلغة الحاسوب" التي ترفد الطلاب بأساسيات البرمجة بلغة الحاسوب، في حين يتضمن المستوى الثاني "شهادة تطوير الألعاب والتطبيقات الرقمية"، التي تتمحور حول كيفية إنشاء تطبيقات وألعاب إلكترونية. أما المستوى الثالث، فيمنح الطلاب "شهادة مستوى متقدم لتطوير الألعاب والتطبيقات الإلكترونية". ويشتمل البرنامج أيضاً على تنظيم "مسابقة البرمجة بلغة الحاسوب" بالشراكة مع "مايكروسوفت"، والتي تتيح الفرصة أمام الطلاب للتنافس على لقب "المبرمج المبتكر"، فضلاً عن "مسابقة هاكاثون" (Hackathon).

du Shareholders Approve Proposed Capital Reduction

Dubai, 12 January 2017 –Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (“du”) said it held a General Meeting today where shareholders voted in favour of a Board of Directors’ recommendation to reduce the company’s capital.

The capital reduction is still subject to final approval from the Securities and Commodities Authority (‘SCA’) as well as other relevant authorities.

Following the approval of the capital reduction, du intends to publish a notice to its creditors in two UAE Arabic-language daily newspapers on 13 January 2017. du will allow a 30 day creditor notification period, expiring on 12 February 2017, before proceeding with the capital reduction.

The proposed capital reduction will involve nominally cancelling 38,522,582 shares held by du and previously allocated to its employee long-term incentive plan. The share cancellation represents approximately 0.84% of du’s total issued share capital.

du’s total issued share capital is currently 4,571,428,571 shares. Following the proposed cancellation, du’s total issued share capital will consist of 4,532,905,989 shares.

The company’s Board of Directors believes that the capital reduction will provide shareholders with an enhanced shareholding in the company and will result in du having a more efficient capital structure.
