YouTube launches Batala, a hub for Arab female creators

The hub will feature more than 100 female creators from across the Middle East and North Africa

Tuesday Oct.18, Cairo - YouTube launched on Monday a new hub called Batala (youtube.com/batala) just for female creators from the Middle East and North Africa which features more than 100 female creators from the region.

Announced during an event in Riyadh, the channel has more than 1,000 videos and is categorized by genres such as comedy, education, fitness, and many more. The hub will also highlight a new list of creators every month at the top of the channel.

“With the continuing growth of female content creators in MENA, we want to keep the momentum going. With YouTube Batala, discovering new creators and their work is now easier than ever. The hub highlights the work of some of our best creators in the region, and showcases high-quality Arabic content to YouTube’s one billion users,” head of YouTube Partnerships in the Middle East of North Africa Diana Baddar said.

YouTube Batala highlights creators like Enji Aboul Seoud, an amateur film critic from Egypt, Njoud Al Shammari, a lifestyle YouTuber from Saudi Arabia, and Haifa Bseiso, a travel vlogger from Palestine. It also features our top creators such as Noor Stars and Hayla Ghazal, who each have more than 2 million subscribers.

The announcement comes as the supply and demand of female-related content continues to grow on the platform. In the Middle East and North Africa alone, the total number of hours spent watching female-related videos has grown by 50 percent in 2015. While in Saudi Arabia, the Consumer Connected Survey found that 63% of Saudi Females are motivated to watch their most recent online video sensation to be entertained or inspired.

ويأتي إطلاق المنصة الجديدة نتيجة النمو المستمر للعرض والطلب على المحتوى المتعلق بالمرأة. حيث نما عدد الساعات التي يمضيها المتابعون في مشاهدة مقاطع الفيديو المتعلقة بشؤون النساء في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا بواقع 50% خلال عام 2015.

Kuwait’s Al-Sumait Prize for African Development announces Winners for Health and Food Security Categories

The winners of the Kuwait-sponsored, Al-Sumait 2015 Health Award and 2016 Food Security Award have been announced by the prestigious Board of Trustees at a meeting in Kuwait City

The Board awarded the 2015 Al-Sumait Prize for Health to Professor Kevin Marsh, from the University of Oxford and African Academy of Sciences, Kenya, for his sustained efforts to control and eradicate malaria, which impacts the health of tens of millions of African children. The 2016 Al-Sumait Prize for Food Security honored two organizations The Sweet Potato for Nutrition Team International Potato Centre, Peru, in advancing the contribution of sweet potato to African farmers and households to address Vitamin A deficiency, one of the most pernicious forms of undernourishment, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Nigeria, for its work in improving the yields and nutritional quality of major staple food crops, such as cassava, banana and maize. Telia Carrier and 365 Data Centers bring 100G services to growing Pittsburgh tech scene

Stockholm/Pittsburgh – 17 October 2016 – Telia Carrier has expanded its partnership with 365 Data Centers, by now offering 100G services to customers in 365’s Pittsburgh edge facility via Telia Carrier’s award-winning, top-two ranked IP backbone. The need for high-bandwidth capacity in the city is driven by the development of innovative applications such as the testing of autonomous ridesharing services, the pervasiveness of Internet of Things (IoT) products and services, and the growing number of start-up technology companies in the area supported by local incubators including academia giants.

Smart Dubai launches DubaiNow, the unified service platform making city services even easier in Dubai

Dubai, UAE, 18 October 2016: Smart Dubai has launched the online portal of DubaiNow, the unified services platform already available as a mobile app, during the third day of GITEX Technology Week 2016. The platform is the first to meet the daily needs of Dubai residents with more than 55 smart services available from 24 government and private entities in a single user experience, making city services more seamless and efficient for Dubai residents, and contributing to the vision of Smart Dubai.

A high level delegation headed by His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council, visited Smart Dubai pavilion on the third day of the 36th edition of GITEX Technology Week to learn about the daily smart services that are contributing to more impactful experiences for Dubai.

During the visit, the delegation toured the DubaiNow unified service platform, a distinctive and comprehensive smart solution from the Smart Dubai Government Establishment (SDG), the technology arm of Smart Dubai Office, and the first unified platform of its kind to integrate smart government services and enable customers to access all services and conduct all transactions in one place and at any time, through an array of digital channels including: mobile phones, wearables, websites, smart kiosks, and IVR.

DubaiNow App, first version of DubaiNow platform

The DubaiNow app, which was the first channel to be introduced on the DubaiNow platform, was launched at GITEX 2015. The comprehensive app, which is currently available for iOS and Android users, provides an integrated city service experience supporting most daily needs of Dubai residents, with more than 55 services available from 24 government and private entities so far. DubaiNow won the Best m-Government Service Award in the One Stop App category at the national level during the World Government Summit 2016 and the Best Government Mobile App of the Year’ category at the ‘.GOV Awards 2016’ in Dubai and the northern emirates.

DubaiNow features more than 55 connected smart services for your happiness

Since the announcement of the DubaiNow app during GITEX 2015, several new services have been added from a growing list of public and private sector contributors. Among the latest services provided under DubaiNow are ‘Ejari’ which facilitates rental contract procedures, ‘Makani,’ and ‘Criminal Antecedents Clearance Certificate.’ Additional applications include “Locator” for schools, hospitals, clinics, and city service centres in the case of emergencies.

The DubaiNow application includes an impressive array of innovative and interdependent government services that support easy and smooth transactions, benefiting from shared data. A parent, for example, can browse vaccination plans under the health category connected to the Dubai Health Authority. Because a child is one of the most important things in a person’s life, users can keep a record of vaccinations that can be stored by DubaiNow, along with the dates of the next vaccination on a personal dashboard. As the single hub for most city services organized by customer-centric life domains such as health, travel and education, users can seamlessly transition from, for example, accessing pediatrician services to topping off their Salik in a unified app experience.

The application also allows the user to design a list of favorite smart services that can be accessed via a one-click button. Smart services can be easily added to or removed from the Favorites menu. Prayer Times can even be added to the Personal Dashboard, and DubaiNow will notify users of prayer timings and direct them to the nearest mosque.

After downloading DubaiNow, users can also browse schools in Dubai, and review their curricula, annual fees and other information that can help in choosing the right school for their children. In recognition of the importance of time-saving for Dubai’s residents, DubaiNow was designed to make life easier. Through it, users can automatically pay electricity, water and telecommunications bills as well as traffic fines.

All customers who have existing accounts with mPay app or MyID service will be able to use their login to access DubaiNow easily and take maximum advantage of an array of the service packages that have been created based on customers’ interests.

These service packages are classified under 11 categories: payments and bills; public transport; security and justice; health; driving; visas; educational services; Islamic services; business; housing; and public services.

"دبي الذكية" تطلق بوابة "المنصة المُوحدة للخدمات "دبي الآن"

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة؛ 18 أكتوبر 2016: أطلقت "دبي الذكية" بوابة المنصة الموحدة للخدمات "دبي الآن" المتوافر حالياً كتطبيق على الهواتف المحمولة في ثالث أيام معرض جيتكس 2016، وهي أول منصة موحدة من نوعها تغطي معظم احتياجات قاطني دبي اليومية عبر أكثر من 55 خدمة ذكية توفرها 24 جهة حكومية وخاصة في تجربة مستخدم واحدة، ما يجعل خدمات المدينة أكثر سلاسة وفاعلية لقاطني دبي ويسهم في تحقيق رؤية مكتب دبي الذكية.

وقد استقبل جناح "دبي الذكية" في ثالث أيام المعرض وفدًا رفيع المستوى يترأسه سمو الشيخ عمار بن حميد النعيمي ولي عهد إمارة عجمان ورئيس المجلس التنفيذي في الإمارة على هامش أعمال الدورة السادسة والثلاثين من "أسبوع جيتكس للتقنية" للتعرف على الخدمات الذكية اليومية التي تسهم في تعزيز التجارب السعيدة في دبي.

أكثر من 55 خدمة ذكية مترابطة في "دبي الآن" لنسعدك

منذ إعلان تطبيق "دبي الآن" خلال معرض جيتكس 2015، تم إضافة العديد من الخدمات الجديدة من قائمة من القطاعين العام والخاص. وتعد خدمات "إيجاري" التي توفر إمكانية إضافة عقود الإيجار باستخدام رقم العقد ورقم الرخصة، و"مكاني" و"بحث الحالة الجنائية" هي أحدث الخدمات التي تمت إضافتها إلى قائمة الخدمات المترابطة والمتكاملة الأخرى التي يوفرها تطبيق "دبي الآن"، مثل: إمكان البحث عن أقرب مركز لتسجيل السيارات أو تجديد الملكية، وتحديد مكان استلامها.

ويشمل تطبيق "دبي الآن" عامل إبهار وابتكار في ترابط الخدمات الحكومية مع بعضها البعض في سبيل تقديم خدمة سهلة وسلسة، مثال على ذلك بإمكان المتعامل تصفح خدمة خطة اللقاحات التي تندرج تحت تصنيف الصحة والمقدمة من هيئة الصحة، ولأن طفلك أهم ما في حياتك، احتفظ بسجل لقاحات طفلك التي قمت بإعدادها وسيذكرك تطبيق "دبي الآن" بمواعيد اللقاحات القادمة على "لوحة البيانات" الخاصة بك، ومن خلال تصفحك الخدمة كذلك وتكملة الإجراءات ستستطيع الوصول إلى طبيب أطفال من دون الخروج من الخدمة نفسها وإيجاد معلومات مهمة مثل حسابك  في سالك أو بطاقة نول ومن المكان نفسه، كما يتيح التطبيق للمتعامل إمكان تصميم قائمة الخدمات الذكية المُفضلة لديه بضغطة زر واحدة، والإضافة لها أو الحذف منها في الوقت نفسه، بسحب الخدمة الذكية وإضافتها إلى القائمة المفضلة أو حذف خدمة منها بسحبها خارج القائمة، كذلك أضف "مواقيت الصلاة" إلى "لوحة البيانات" الشخصية ليذكرك "دبي الآن"  بمواعيد الصلاة، ويساعدك في العثور على أقرب المساجد إليك، كما أنه بتحمل تطبيق دبي الآن، سوف تستطيع   تصفح تصنيف المدارس في دبي ومناهجها ورسومها السنوية وغيرها الكثير، واختيار المدرسة الملائمة لأبنائك، ولأن وقتك ثمين ونحن نقدر ذلك، صممنا تطبيق دبي الآن ليجعل حياتك أسهل فمن خلاله تستطيع تسديد فواتيرك آلياً: كهرباء، ماء، اتصالات، دو، وكذلك مخالفاتك المرورية.

وسيتمكن كل من لديه حسابٌ في تطبيق الدفع عبر الهواتف الذكية mPay أو خدمة هويتي الإلكترونية MyID من الدخول إلى هذه البوابة بسهولة والاستفادة القصوى من مجموعة من الباقات الخدماتية التي بنيت بالكامل على رغبات المتعاملين وجرى تجميعها ضمن باقات فرعية؛ مصنّفة بدورها تحت 11 فئة، وهي: الدفعات والفواتير، والمواصلات العامة، والأمن والعدل، والصحة، وقيادة المركبات، وتأشيرات الإقامة، وخدمات التعليم، وخدمة إسلام، والأعمال، والإسكان، وخدمات عامة.
