Small-scale livestock keepers in Syria receive emergency support from FAO

FAO with the support of the Syrian Veterinary Association is helping more than 80 000 small-scale herders to protect their livestock assets and reduce animal production losses. 1 February 2015, Damascus -- Nearly 4 000 000 sheep, goats and cattle across Syria will be treated for parasites by FAO with the support of the Syrian Veterinary Association (SVA). This mass treatment campaign is conducted with funding from the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium and will benefit more than 76 000 livestock keepers in high-risk areas in Al Hasakeh, Dar’a, Idleb, Hama, Homs and Rural Damascus governorates. Since the campaign was launched in December 2014, nearly 2.4 million animals have been treated and activities are proceeding at a very good pace. “Treatment of livestock for parasite is more than a public health issue - it contributes to maintain animals and people healthy. It therefore helps to keep families and communities fed and to build their resilience” said FAO Representative in Syria, Ms. Eriko Hibi. With the intensification of the crisis in Syria, the regular delivery of animal health services has been significantly disrupted. This is of particular concern as livelihood loss, deepening poverty, inflation and steep depreciation of the Syrian pound have further eroded the capacity of farmers to spare resources for veterinary treatments. In this context, small-scale herders have been particularly vulnerable and their livestock has been left exposed to a series of serious health threats including transboundary animal diseases (TADs) and parasites. For the small-scale herders supported, livestock is the only productive asset they own. “It is their only source of income - their lifeline,” said Ms. Hibi “Therefore, they cannot afford to lose livestock to preventable diseases.” There is thus the urgent need to put in place a sound defense against the threats to animal health and production through enhanced veterinary services and strengthened capacities of local herders and animal raisers. As a first step, FAO has launched in December 2014 a large treatment campaign for parasites. Parasites represent a major concern for livestock keepers as they can cause a severe reduction in productivity and may lead to death of malnourished animals. The anti-parasite treatment will improve the capacity of vulnerable livestock keeping communities in targeted areas to protect their animals from deaths and production losses. This will ultimately result in their enhanced food security and livelihoods. Furthermore, it will also contribute to the increased availability of milk, dairy products and meat at the community level. This is extremely important as recent assessments reveal that crisis-affected people in 1 Syria have an increasingly limited access to fresh nutrient food, which has a direct negative impact on their dietary diversity, food and nutrition security. During the first half of 2015, treatment efforts will continue thanks to funding received from the United States of America. Nevertheless, further resources are urgently required. In 2015 FAO is seeking USD 10 million to provide emergency support to small-scale herders affected by the Syria crisis to protect their livestock assets . صغار مربي المواشي في سورية يستلمون مساعدات إنسانية عاجلة من منظمة الفاو منظمة الفاو، وبالتعاون مع نقابة الأطباء البيطريين السوريين، تقدم مساعدات إلى ما يزيد عن 80,000 من صغار مربي المواشي للحفاظ على قطعانهم والتخفيف من الخسائر في قطاع الإنتاج الحيواني 1 فبراير 2015، دمشق--  تقوم منظمة الفاو، بالتعاون مع نقابة الأطباء البيطريين السوريين، بمعالجة حوالي 4,000,000  رأس غنم وماعز وأبقار في سورية من الطفيليات. ويتم تنفيذ حملة المعالجة الواسعة هذه بتمويل من الحكومة البلجيكية ليستفيد منها حوالي 76,000 مربي مواشي في المناطق الساخنة بمحافظات الحسكة، ودرعا، وإدلب، وحماه، وحمص، وريف دمشق. وقد تمت معالجة ما يقارب 2.4 مليون رأس مواشي منذ بداية الحملة المذكورة في كانون الأول 2014، كما تسير عملية المعالجة بوتيرة جيدة جداً. وقالت السيدة إيريكو هيبي، ممثل منظمة الفاو بسورية أن "معالجة الثروة الحيوانية من الطفيليات هي أكثر من مجرد قضية صحة عامة – فهي تساهم في الحفاظ على صحة الحيوانات والبشر. وهي بذلك تساعد على توفير الغذاء للأسر والمجتمعات ومساعدتهم على التكيف مع الظروف". ومع طول فترة الأحداث الحالية في سورية، فقد تأثرت بشكل كبير وتيرة تقديم خدمات الصحة الحيوانية. ويحتل هذا الأمر أهمية خاصة، في ظل عوامل مثل خسارة سبل المعيشة وزيادة الفقر والتضخم وانخفاض القوة الشرائية لليرة السورية، حيث قلصت هذه العوامل إلى حد بعيد من قدرات المزارعين على توفير الموارد اللازمة للمعالجة البيطرية. وفي هذا السياق، يعتبر صغار المربين بشكل خاص من الفئات المتأثرة حيث تركت قطعانهم عرضة لسلسلة من التهديدات الصحية الخطرة والتي تتضمن الأمراض الحيوانية العابرة للحدود والطفيليات.  أما بالنسبة لصغار المربين الذين تمت مساعدتهم، فتعتبر الثروة الحيوانية الأصول الإنتاجية الوحيدة التي يملكونها. كما قالت السيدة هيبي  :"إنها المصدر الوحيد للدخل الذي يملكونه – بل وسيلة حياتهم ، لذلك فلا يمكنهم تحمل فقدان قطعانهم بسبب أمراض يمكن تجنبها وبالتالي ثمة حاجة عاجلة إلى تنفيذ برنامج وقائي جيد في مواجهة المخاطر التي تتهدد الصحة الحيوانية والإنتاج الحيواني من خلال تعزيز الخدمات البيطرية وقدرات مربي المواشي المحليين". وكخطوة أولى، بدأت منظمة الفاو في كانون الأول 2014 حملة واسعة لمعالج المواشي من الطفيليات. وتعتبر الطفيليات مصدر قلق رئيسي بالنسبة لمربي المواشي نظراً لقدرتها على التسبب في انخفاض الإنتاجية إلى حد كبير وقد تؤدي إلى نفوق الحيوانات المصابة بسوء التغذية. وستساعد المعالجة من الطفيليات في تحسين قدرات مجتمعات مربي المواشي المتأثرة في المناطق المستهدفة على حماية قطعانهم من النفوق وتجنب الخسائر في الإنتاج. ويهدف ذلك في نهاية الأمر إلى تعزيز الأمن الغذائي وسبل المعيشة لدى هذه المجتمعات. علاوة على المساهمة في زيادة توفر الحليب ومنتجات الألبان واللحوم على مستوى المجتمع ككل. ويعتبر هذا الأمر على درجة عالية من الأهمية حيث أظهرت مسوحات التقييم المنفذة مؤخراً أن إمكانية حصول المتأثرين بالأحداث الحالية في سورية  على طعام مغذي طازج تزداد صعوبة أكثر فأكثر، الأمر الذي له أثر سلبي مباشر على تنوع مكونات وجباتهم وجوانب الأمن الغذائي والتغذية الخاصة بهم.    وخلال النصف الأول من عام 2015، ستستمر نشاطات حملة المعالجة بتمويل من حكومة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. رغم ذلك، ثمة حاجة عاجلة لتمويل إضافي. وتسعى الفاو عام 2015 للحصول على 10 مليون دولار أمريكي من أجل تقديم المساعدات العاجلة لصغار المربين المتأثرين بالأحداث الحالية في سورية بهدف حماية قطعانهم التي تمثل أصولهم الإنتاجية. |لقراءة الخبر علي الموقع |

في مصر C أمهات يصبن الأطفال بعدوى التهاب الكبد بالفيروس

تشير دراسة حديثة إلى أن نحو 3000 الى 5000 طفل مصري قد يصابون سنويًّا بعدوى التهاب الكبد بالفيروس C عن طريق انتقال العدوى من الأم إلى الطفل.

ما هو أكثر مدعاة للقلق هو أن نتائج الدراسة تُظهر أن انتقال الفيروس من الأم إلى الطفل قد يسهم في إحداث ما بين 30 و50% من إجمالي الحالات الجديدة ضمن الفئة العمرية الأصغر من خمس سنوات.

وتأتي مصر في المركز الأول من حيث انتشار الفيروس كما أورد موقع "نيتشر ميدل إيست" العلمي بحسب الدراسة، حيث يقدر أن 14.7% من السكان يحملون الفيروس. تعد هذه الدراسة الأولى من نوعها لدراسة انتقال الفيروس من الأم إلى الطفل في أي بلد، واستند الباحثون على احصائيات من المسح الديمغرافي والصحي في مصر لعام2008 .

تشرح لينكا بينوفا - من كلية لندن للصحة والطب الاستوائي، وكلية طب وايل كورنيل في قطر، والباحثة الرئيسية للدراسة - أن الانتقال العمودي من الأم إلى الطفل يتميز بالعديد من الخصائص الفريدة التي تجعل فهمه صعبًا، وأهمها هو أن هذا النوع من الإنتقال نادر الحدوث و أن الأمر يستغرق وقتًا طويلاً لتحديد حالة العدوى بين الأطفال حديثي الولادة الذين تعرضوا لانتقال الفيروس عموديًّا.

ويوضح الباحثون ان مراقبة هذا النوع من العدوى مهم في محاولات تقليل العدوى والتحكم في انتشار المرض في مصر عن طريق إجراء الفحص وتقديم العلاج للنساء المصابات بعدوى التهاب الكبد الفيروسي C النشط قبل أن يحملن، خاصةً ان 2%  فقط من النساء المصريات ذكرن أنهن خضعن في وقت ما لاختبار التهاب الكبد الفيروسي  Cفي الاحصائية.

Thuraya appoints Keith Murray to lead Maritime Product Management

New hire brings 25 years of experience in maritime and product management to growing maritime and offshore-focussed team

Dubai, United Arab Emirates- February 2, 2015 – (ME NewsWire)  Thuraya Telecommunications, a leading Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) operator has further strengthened its maritime team with the appointment of Keith Murray as Maritime Product Manager, based in Dubai.

Murray’s key tasks will be to increase the penetration of the Orion IP maritime broadband terminal in the market and oversee the commercial roll-out of the new Atlas IP broadband terminal in the first quarter of 2015.

دبي، دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة – 2 فبراير 2015: )ميدل إيست نيوز واير(  أعلنت شركة الثريا للاتصالات المشغّل الرائد لخدمات الجوال عبر الأقمار الصناعية "إم إس إس"، بأنها عززت فريق القطاع البحري لديها بتعيين كيث موراي في منصب مدير منتجات القطاع البحري في دبي.

وستتركز المهام الموكلة إلى موراي في توسيع نطاق انتشار محطات النطاق العريض للقطاع البحري "أوريون آي بي" (Orion IP) في الأسواق، ومتابعة النشر التجاري لمحطات النطاق العريض "أطلس آي بي" (Atlas IP) خلال الربع الأول من عام 2015.

وعلق موراي على التعيين الجديد قائلاً: " أصبح السوق جاهزاً لاستقبال بديل جديد في القطاع البحري، ولا شك بأن المزيج المثالي الذي توفره الثريا من أسعار تنافسية ومحطات نطاق عريض جديدة وخدمات موثوقة تضعنا في موقع ممتاز لتحقيق ذلك، ويوفر لي هذا المنصب الجديد فرصة كبيرة لدفع أعمال القطاع البحري لدينا قدماً. يتصف هذا القطاع بطابع عملي وديناميكي من حيث سرعة تبني الحلول الجديدة، كما أنه يُظهر مستويات نمو مشجعة في الاتجاهين التنازلي من جهة التشريعات الموضوعة، والتصاعدي من جهة الزخم الناتج عن المستخدمين الذين تتركز توقعاتهم في القدرة على إجراء الاتصالات أينما كانوا".

وسيعمل موراي بصورة وثيقة مع ليتيشيا دياز ديل ريو مديرة تطوير أسواق منتجات القطاع البحري، ومع فويبي وانغ مدير مبيعات منتجات القطاع البحري وذلك أثناء مواصلة الثريا سعيها لبناء سمعتها كمزودة اتصالات قوية وراسخة لأسواق القطاعات البحرية والشحن والعمليات البحرية.

وينضم موراي إلى شركة الثريا آتياً من شركة "إيرباص للدفاع والفضاء" حيث كان مسؤولاً عن إدارة دورة حياة المنتجات والأنظمة الخاصة بفئة الاتصالات البحرية عبر الأقمار الصناعية، وهو يتمتع بخبرة تزيد عن العقدين من الزمن في مجال الأعمال والتجارب التي يمر بها العملاء، والتي يتركّز أكثر من نصفها في مجال الاتصالات عبر الأقمار الصناعية.

من جهته قال راندي روبرتس، نائب الرئيس لشؤون الابتكار في شركة الثريا في معرض ترحيبه بهذا التعيين الجديد: "لقد أصبحت الثريا عبر تشكيلها لفريق عالي الخبرة في القطاع البحري في كل من دبي وسنغافورة، في موقع ممتاز يتيح لها تنفيذ استراتيجيتها الفريدة الخاصة بالقطاع البحري والعروض القيمة التي نقدمها. إن استثماراتنا في الأفراد الذين نحتاج إليهم مثل كيث لدعم هذه الاستراتيجية، تؤكد للسوق بأننا ملتزمون بدعمه على المدى الطويل".

وكان موراي قد شغل في السابق عدداً من المناصب منها مدير المنتجات (فئة أنظمة الاتصالات البحرية عبر الأقمار الصناعية) في شركة "إيرباص للدفاع والفضاء"، وهو يحمل شهادة في الهندسة الكهربائية والإلكترونية من جامعة "هيريوت وات".
