Airbus and Nedaa receive ICCA award for helping to secure Expo 2020 Dubai

Dubai, UAE – 3 November 2022: Airbus and Nedaa receive ICCA award given for their key role in providing secure communications and thus helping secure the global Expo 2020 Dubai premises.
In collaboration with Nedaa, Airbus deployed its mission-critical communication solutions Tactilon Agnet and Tactilon Dabat during Dubai’s hosting of the six-month international Expo. The technologies were used to support the work of Dubai Police and members of the Dubai World Expo security and site management teams and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.
In recognition of this role, Airbus recently clinched the “Best Use of Critical Communications in Public Safety” during the annual International Critical Communications Awards (ICCAs) at the Critical Communications World (CCW) event in Vienna.
Selim Bouri, Vice-president for Airbus Secure Land Communications in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, said: “It’s our honor to share our latest recognition with Nedaa whose 4G and TETRA networks provided the much-needed connection for our hybrid critical solutions. The network was vital to ensuring the seamless communication and collaboration between first responders and public safety personnel deployed throughout the premier event.”

Tactilon Agnet served as a bridge between both Tetra and broadband technologies by providing Tetra users such as medical professionals the platform to communicate with the volunteers who all used smartphones.
Tactilon Dabat, on the other hand, were used to scan access badges and visitor, contractor, volunteer and worker- IDs . The solution gave professional smartphone users instant and reliable access to voice, video, multimedia, files, and location information, allowing them to securely transmit data such as photos and videos in real-time regardless of the device used.
Zayed University students participate in UN sponsored COP27 Simulation in Cairo
- A Zayed University team from the College of Interdisciplinary Studies were selected from more than 2000 student applicants to take part in the UN sponsored COP 27 Simulation Model.
- The event brought together 130 students from 24 countries to promote international youth dialogue on international climate action.
- The COP 27 Simulation Model was under the auspices of HE Mahmoud Mohieldin, the UN Climate Change High Representative.
A group of Zayed University (ZU) students from the College of Interdisciplinary Studies were selected from more than 2000 students to take part in the UN sponsored COP 27 Simulation Model at the British University in Cairo.
The Zayed University team consisted of students from the UAE, Pakistan, Brazil and Chile; in total the event brought together 130 students from 24 countries to promote international youth dialogue on international climate action.
The COP27 Simulation Model is a global youth-led climate conference bringing students from around the world together to simulate the real COP27 activities, with students representing country delegates and representatives of international organizations. The event was held under the auspices of HE Mahmoud Mohieldin, the UN Climate Change High Representative. The students also received talks from international ministers including UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister Gillian Keegan MP and HE Ashraf Sobhy Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports.
During the event the Zayed University students were trained for climate action and debate within Egypt’s COP27 framework and themes: Adaptation, Mitigation, Finance and Regional and International Collaboration. The event gave students the chance to experience life at the heart of political decision making and provided them with experience in diplomacy, debate and conflict resolution, and critical thinking, in addition to research writing and public speaking skills.
The visit was led by Professor Suzanna El Massah, Associate Professor at the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, who commented: “I am so proud of our students. They showcased the very best of Zayed University and are wonderful ambassadors for the UAE. The event was an incredible experience for all of them and gave the students the chance to reflect on the full spectrum of issues related to the climate crisis. The format was designed to encourage the students to think outside the box and embrace creative solutions to this urgent problem. These forums, which engage young people in the debate around sustainability, are vital and I want to thank the British University in Cairo for hosting us.”
Reem Aljabri, a student in the College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Zayed University said, “The British university in Egypt gave the youth an opportunity to mock COP27 as we are the leaders of tomorrow. Alongside the conference students were immersed in Egyptian culture with visits arranged to the Pyramids of Giza, the oldest and only remaining Ancient Wonder of the World, the Great Spinx and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation.

BMW Group reveals strong performance in Q3

Munich. BMW Group in the Middle East is delighted to report a strong performance for the third quarter of 2022. Despite the rising costs of raw materials and energy, BMW Group has been able to produce solid financial results in an uneven economic environment.

BMW Group continues to be at the forefront of electromobility, witnessing significant growth in sales of fully-electric and electrified vehicles. More than 128,000 electric vehicles were delivered to customers in the year to the end of September – more than twice the number for the same period of 2021. As a result, there has been a decrease in CO2 emissions in the EU new vehicle fleet that is ahead of target.
Launches of the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 7 Series were warmly received, while a similarly positive reception is anticipated for the first fully-electric BMW i7 in November 2022. Both the X1 and 7 Series come with different drive train variants: as pure-electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids (PHEVs) and with petrol and diesel engines, which offers the versatility that is demanded by today’s driver.
In the face of global disruption to supply chains and COVID lockdowns in China, BMW Group was still able to deliver 1,747,838 vehicles to customers in the first nine months of the year, 587,744 of which came in Q3. This achievement places BMW Group at number one in the premium segment in Germany and worldwide. The number of deliveries is forecast to increase significantly in the fourth quarter, compared to Q3 in 2022. Compared to 2021, BMW Group expects sales of fully-electric vehicles to double in 2022.
Turning to revenues, in the third quarter of 2022, BMW Group reached €37,176 million, pushing the total for the first nine months of the year to €103,088 million.

COP27 needs a tremendous focus on action, Commonwealth of Dominica looking to share scalable solutions
Roseau, Nov. 04, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COP27 takes place in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November and the Commonwealth of Dominica, like many nations around the world, will be watching to see if this summit finally brings action and implementation of proposals and promises.
“We are at the stage where we can no longer use these events as talk shops, but rather, we need to be laser-focused and intentional about developing actionable plans to tackle the biggest challenge of our time – climate change,” says Dr. Vince Henderson, Dominica’s minister for planning, economic development, climate resilience, sustainable development, and renewable energy.
Small island nations like Dominica, are not the only countries facing extreme weather conditions as a result of global warming. UN Secretary-General António Guterres mentioned to journalists in New York recently that a third of Pakistan is flooded, Europe is experiencing its hottest summer in 500 years, the Philippines is dealing with the aftermath of tropical storm Paeng and in the United States, Category 4 Hurricane Ian was just another reminder of the climate crisis.
Dominica has been on a path to be the world’s first climate-resilient nation following Hurricane Maria which left an estimated 90 percent of buildings damaged or destroyed in 2019.
This year, at COP27, Dominica wants to showcase how it will reach climate resiliency by 2030. The country has implemented a number of projects that can be used as case studies that can be used as a flywheel of action.
“Everybody is talking about sustainability and climate change and why we need to reduce carbon emissions, the issue is how we are going to make a meaningful impact. For people to translate insight into action, they need to see good examples that motivate them, and we believe Dominica has an abundance of examples that are yielding results,” continues Minister Henderson.
In response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria, Dominica launched a climate resilience policy framework to help guide its recovery journey in the form of the National Resilience Development Strategy 2030 (NRDS).
The Climate Resilience and Recovery Plan of Dominica aim to build strong communities, build a robust economy, have a well-planned and durable infrastructure; strengthen institutional systems and, protect and sustain natural and other unique assets.
It centres around three pillars: structural resilience, financial resilience, and post-disaster resilience.
Structural resilience: The government of Dominica is building a resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding natural disasters, including Category 5 hurricanes. It includes the construction of 5 000 climate-resilient homes, healthcare centres, roads, bridges, airports, and schools.
Financial Resilience: The government of Dominica is implementing institutional fiscal reform to ensure stronger fiscal resilience which will aid in the strengthening of debt sustainability utilising several key institutional fiscal areas.
Post Disaster and Social Resilience: This pillar helps encourage farmers to plant more root crops which are more resilient to heavy rain and wind, and increases farmer training programmes and government assistance with the provision of seeds and fertilizers. The government’s plan to strengthen food security includes specific policies for the resiliency of the agriculture and fisheries industries.
With 2022 set to rank among the 10 warmest years on record, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Dominica is also constructing a geothermal power plant which will increase the country’s share of renewables and diversify the country’s energy matrix. The Commonwealth of Dominica already obtains 28% of its energy requirements from renewable energy sources such as hydropower and wind.
The UN is urging the world’s industrialized nations to ‘lead by example' by taking ‘bold and immediate actions’. One of these nations includes the United States of America and with President Joe Biden confirmed to attend, it is said he will build on the significant work the United States has undertaken to advance the global climate fight and help the most vulnerable build resilience to climate impacts.
Last year, Biden arrived at COP26 largely empty handed and this year he will promote the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that devotes hundreds of billions of dollars to clean energy initiatives and brings Biden’s pledge to cut United States emissions in half by 2030 closer within reach.
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the group of nations that have signed the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was put together in 1992. It commits them to act together to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations “at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic (human-induced) interference with the climate system”. Since then, the parties, or nations, have met almost annually.
COP26 was held in the Scottish city of Glasgow in November 2021 and it brought together 120 world leaders and representatives from almost 200 countries. It culminated in the Glasgow Climate Pact, which reaffirmed the 2015 Paris Agreement goal of “limiting the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C”.
CGTN: China, Tanzania upgrade ties to comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership

Noting that the two countries should take the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as a guide to advance cooperation in various fields in the next stage, Xi said China will continue to import more Tanzanian products, support Chinese companies in investing and doing business in Tanzania and provide assistance for Tanzania's economic and social development.
He said China has always viewed its relations with Tanzania from a strategic perspective and has always been a reliable friend.
The bilateral trade between China and Tanzania has developed rapidly. The trade volume reached $6.74 billion, up 47.1 percent year on year. Among them, Tanzania's exports to China amounted to $606 million, up 47.3 percent year on year, and the growth rate was faster than the average level in Africa, according to Chinese statistics.
Hassan said Tanzania regards China as a "true and most important friend" and is willing to be a trusted partner of China forever.
She said Tanzania will continue to firmly support China on issues concerning China's core interests, such as the issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents on trade, investment, development cooperation, digital economy and green development.
The two sides also issued a joint statement on establishing a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, covering issues such as leveraging the guiding political role of head-of-state diplomacy, elevating two-way trade, and strengthening coordination and cooperation in international affairs, among others.
Building a China-Africa community with a shared future
In 2013, during his visit to Tanzania, Xi put forth the guiding principles of China's policy toward Africa, namely sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith, which have since become China's basic policy on pursuing solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries.
Xi told Hassan that under the new circumstances, the sound development of China-Tanzania relations not only serves the common and long-term interests of the two countries but also is of great significance to building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
China is ready to create new opportunities for Africa with its new development, take infrastructure as the guide, strengthen cooperation in trade, investment and financing, and foster new drivers of China-Africa cooperation, he said.
Hassan said her country will join China in taking the establishment of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as an opportunity to strengthen practical cooperation in various fields and build bilateral relations into a model of Africa-China relations in the new era.
Highlighting the role of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in promoting the development of African countries, she said Tanzania will continue to actively participate in and support the development of FOCAC.
FOCAC is an effective platform and multilateral mechanism for China and African countries to conduct collective consultations and carry out pragmatic cooperation.
Since the establishment of FOCAC, Chinese enterprises have built more than 10,000 kilometers of railways, nearly 100,000 kilometers of roads, nearly 1,000 bridges, nearly 100 ports and a large number of hospitals and schools in Africa, said Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian during a conference on China-Africa cooperation through FOCAC in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam in October.
In 2021, China-Africa trade volume was $254.2 billion, and China's stock of direct investment in Africa exceeded $56 billion, 25 times and 100 times that of 2000, when the forum was established, respectively, according to the Chinese envoy.

49% من الموظفين قلقون من احتمال أن يسيء مديروهم الظنّ بهم إذا كانت مطالباتهم باسترداد النفقات مرتفعة
دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 6 نوفمبر 2022: استعرضت شركة "إس إيه بي كونكر" اليوم مجموعة من الخطوات التي تساعد المؤسسات على تحسين السياسات والعمليات المرتبطة بأقسام الشؤون المالية والموارد البشرية، لاسيما في ظل الأوضاع الاقتصادية المضطربة التي تمرّ بها.
وفي ظلّ ارتفاع تكاليف المعيشة، بات الموظفون أحرص على التدقيق في معاملات الاسترداد المالي لنفقات العمل أو السفر في أماكن عملهم، نظرًا لتخوّفهم من أن تؤثر هذه المعاملات في مواردهم المالية، لذلك يزداد الحرص في الإقسام المعنية بإدارة النفقات في المؤسسات على تأدية هذه المعاملات بسرعة ودقة، حفاظًا على سلامة العلاقات بين أصحاب العمل والموظفين.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال جابرييل إندريري، نائب الرئيس والمدير التنفيذي لمنطقة جنوب أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا لدى شركة "إس إيه بي كونكر": "إن رضا الموظفين ضروري لتعزيز عمل المؤسسات ودعم نموها، لكن إدارة النفقات ظلّت أحد المجالات التي أُغفلت لوقت طويل. لذا فإن الحرص على وضع سياسات محدثة تدعم الموظفين بمعاملات يسيرة وتضمن لهم سرعة استرداد النفقات، ستجعلهم يشعرون بالتقدير والاهتمام".
وفي المقابل، قد تمنع العمليات المعقدة الموظفين من الاستفادة الكاملة من المطالبات التي يقدمونها لاستعادة النفقات، لأنهم كثيرًا ما يشعرون بالقلق إزاء أخطاء غير متعمدة قد تُفسّر بأنها محاولات احتيال، ما قد يُعرّض أمنهم الوظيفي للخطر، عدا عن عدم قدرتهم على تحمّل انتظار استرداد النفقات، وتبعات هذا الأمر من شعورهم بقلّة التقدير والاحترام.
ويظهر ذلك بوضوح في نتائج دراسة حديثة حول إدارة النفقات وتجربة الموظفين، أجرتها "إس إيه بي كونكر"، وكشفت عن أن ما يقرب من نصف الموظفين (49 في المئة) في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا قلقون من احتمال أن يسيء مديروهم الظنّ بهم إذا كانت مطالباتهم باسترداد النفقات مرتفعة، ما يشير إلى أن بعض الموظفين قد يُحجمون عن المطالبة بجميع النفقات التي تحملوها، في حين يشعر 54 في المئة أنهم سيقعون في المشكلات إذا اشتملت مطالباتهم باسترداد النفقات على أخطاء.
وإذا ما أخذنا هذه التحديات في الاعتبار، نجد أن ثمّة أربع خطوات يمكن لأقسام الشؤون المالية والموارد البشرية اتباعها لتحسين السياسات والعمليات دعمًا للموظفين:
1. تسخير تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي والأتمتة
إن الطريقة التي يتم بها وضع العديد من سياسات إدارة النفقات لم تعد مناسبة للتحديات المعاصرة التي تواجهها الشركات والموظفون، لا سيما المتعلقة بمخاوف الموظفين حيال العمليات التي تضع عليهم ضغوطًا تتمثل في الحاجة إلى استكمال بعض المهام اليدوية غير المألوفة لهم.
لذا تأتي تقنيات الأتمتة المتاحة في الوقت الحاضر لتساهم في دعم العمليات الفعالة والمباشرة. وتجني المؤسسات التي تستخدم هذه التقنيات منافع تحسين تجربة الموظفين ورفع كفاءتهم، ما يخفف الضغط الواقع عليهم ويزيد من مستويات رضاهم.
لذلك وجدت دراسة "إس إيه بي كونكر" أن 50 في المئة من الموظفين قد قالوا إن أتمتة عمليات النفقات هي أفضل طريقة لتبسيطها. هذا، ويتواصل التحوّل إلى الأدوات الرقمية، إذ بات 55 في المئة من صناع القرار في أقسام الشؤون المالية والموارد البشرية يستخدمون الذكاء الاصطناعي لضمان امتثال جميع امتيازات الموظفين الخاضعة للضريبة للوائح الحكومية. وقد ذكر 62 في المئة أن الأدوات الرقمية تساعد في إدارة النفقات إدارةً أكثر فاعلية في مؤسساتهم، فالأقسام المعنية، من دون هذه الأدوات، ستقضي المزيد من الوقت في البحث عن الأخطاء والتدقيق في الامتثال يدويًا بطريقة غير فعالة.
2. طلب الحصول بانتظام على ملاحظات الموظفين
إن الطريقة التي تستجيب بها المؤسسات لتحديات إدارة النفقات من شأنها أن ترفع رضا الموظفين وتدعّم استبقاء أصحاب المواهب، أو أن تخلق نقطة انهيار في علاقة العمل وضياع للمواهب.
ونظرًا لانخراط الموظفين في عمليات النفقات بانتظام، فإنه ينبغي لقادة الأعمال فهم السبل التي يمكنهم عبرها تحسين هذه العمليات، بالحرص على طلب آراء الموظفين وملاحظاتهم. ووفقًا لدراستنا، قال 79 في المئة من الموظفين إن مؤسساتهم تجري مبادرات للحصول على آرائهم وقياس رضاهم في هذا الجانب، لكن 27 في المئة فقط قالوا إن هذا الأمر يتكرر بحرص وانتظام.
إن على المؤسسات أن تدرك أن هذا الإجراء مهم لتقليل الضغط في مكان العمل من دون الحاجة إلى تقديم دعم مالي مباشر، فمجرّد تحدثّ المسؤولين إلى الموظفين يجعلهم يدركون نوع التدريب الذي يحتاجه موظفوهم والسياسات التي يمكنهم تطويرها لجعلهم يشعرون براحة أكبر في التعامل مع مسألة استرداد النفقات.
3. سياسات مبتكرة وقوية تناسب العصر
لطالما عُرف عن أنظمة إدارة النفقات والفواتير بأنها تستغرق وقتًا طويلًا ويصعب التعامل معها، مع أنه بالإمكان أن يكون الوضع أفضل من ذلك. إن التقصير القائم في هذه العمليات والوقت الذي تستغرقه يتسببان في إحباط الموظفين، وهذا أمر واضح، لكن المؤسسات تسعى في الوقت نفسه إلى تقليل أوجه القصور في عملياتها وخفض التكاليف. وهناك تلوح فرصة القيام بذلك أثناء تحسين الإجراءات والسياسات لدعم الموظفين.
يجب أن تكون سياسة النفقات المؤسسية واضحة ودقيقة، وأن تشتمل النسخة الموجّهة للموظف منها على الأساسيات وتخلو من المصطلحات القانونية أو المؤسسية المعقدة، فكلما غدت السياسة أسهل فهمًا، سهُل على الموظفين اتباعها وتنفيذها. كما يجب على أصحاب العمل أيضًا أن يأخذوا في الاعتبار أن أنواع النفقات ومتطلباتها قد تغيرت في السنوات القليلة الماضية لتنسجم مع توجهات العمل عن بعد.
4. تأكد من قيام المديرين بتوصيل السياسات بشفافية وانفتاح
تُعدّ تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي والأتمتة أمرًا بالغ الأهمية، ولكن من الضروري دمجها مع ثقافة الشفافية والتواصل المفتوح لنزع فتيل التوتر وتمكين الموظفين من التعامل بسهولة مع معاملات النفقات والسماح لأقسام الشؤون المالية والموارد البشرية بأن تديرها بكفاءة.
ويجب في هذا السياق الإعلان بوضوح عن أية تحديثات تخضع لها السياسة، لضمان وصولها إلى جميع الموظفين.
إن شرح الأسباب الكامنة وراء التغييرات في سياسة النفقات، وتبيان منافعها لجميع الموظفين، يساعد في تقبلها والامتثال لها، لذا من المهم أن تكون هناك سياسة يجب اتباعها، ولكنها أيضًا سياسة يخضع الجميع بلا استثناء للمساءلة بموجبها، بغض النظر عن المنصب أو الأقدمية، ضمانًا لتحقيق العدالة في جميع الجوانب.

رينيسانس تدعم مكتبة ماي أون الرقمية بميزة القراءة الجهرية الجديدة
دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة؛ 26 أكتوبر 2022: كشفت رينيسانس، الشركة الرائدة عالمياً في تقديم حلول تكنولوجيا التعليم، عن إطلاق ميزة القراءة الجهرية على منصة القراءة الرقمية الخاصة بها ماي أون (myON). وتتيح الميزة الجديدة للطلبة تسجيل أصواتهم عند القراءة بصوت عالٍ وإرسال التسجيل إلى معلميهم، مع إمكانية سماع التسجيل ومراجعته قبل إتمام عملية الإرسال.

وتواصلت رينيسانس مع عدد كبير من المعلمين في سياق تطوير الميزة الجديدة، ولمست عدم توفر الوقت الكافي في الفصل في معظم الأحيان لمنح فرصة القراءة الجهرية لجميع الطلبة بالقدر المناسب. كما يُبدي بعض الطلبة عدم رغبتهم في القراءة أمام زملائهم، سواء كانوا ممن يواجهون صعوبات في القراءة أو يشعرون بالخجل عندما يكونون محط أنظار الآخرين. وتساعد الميزة الجديدة على معالجة هذه المشاكل، إذ تتيح للطلبة تسجيل قراءاتهم في المساء أو في عطلات نهاية الأسبوع دون وجود الكثير من الأشخاص حولهم، كما تمنح المعلمين فرصة إنشاء ملفات للقراءة تمكنهم من تحديد مدى تطور مهارات الطلاب من حيث إتقان أساسيات القراءة وأثرها في رفع سوية الفهم والقدرة على التعلم، وذلك من خلال مقارنة مستوياتهم بين بداية العام الدراسي ونهايته.
