Under UAE President's Patronage: Abdullah bin Zayed Attends Zayed Award for Human Fraternity Ceremony Recognizing Honorees

Abu Dhabi, February 5:  Under the patronage of President of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity ceremony recognizing the 2024 honorees of the award’s fifth edition.

The award ceremony - held Monday evening at the Founder's Memorial under the theme “Tales of Light" – was attended by President of East Timor His Excellency Josè Ramos-Horta; Vice President of Indonesia His Excellency Ma’ruf Amin; UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan; UAE Minister of Energy His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei; as well as a number of senior UAE officials, ambassadors, the award’s judging committee members, and international figures.

The award ceremony coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Human Fraternity, which was unanimously designated by the United Nations as an international day in recognition of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2019.

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity recognized Indonesian humanitarian organizations Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah; world-renowned cardiac surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub; and Chilean NGO founder Sister Nelly Leon Correa as honorees of the 2024 award.

The award honors individuals and organizations from around the world who are working to advance solidarity, integrity, fairness, and optimism at the local and international levels and create breakthroughs towards peaceful coexistence. 

The ceremony featured video remarks from His Holiness Pope Francis; His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb; His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia; and His Excellency Alberto van Klaveren Stork, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Chile.

Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, two of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organizations, have been awarded for their humanitarian and peacebuilding efforts. Through their dedicated efforts in facilitating hospitals, educational institutions, and poverty alleviation projects, both organizations have significantly helped Indonesian community members and other vulnerable populations worldwide. 

Sir Magdi Yacoub was honored for his efforts extending medical care to the most vulnerable. He is the founder of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation in Egypt, and the Chain of Hope charitable organization in the UK. Dr. Yacoub has helped save thousands of lives, especially children. His pioneering surgical techniques have revolutionized heart transplants, and he has received numerous honors, including a British Knighthood, the Grand Order of the Nile, and the Order of Merit by Queen Elizabeth II.

Sister Nelly Correa, known as Mother Nelly, was recognized for her work in providing care to women in prison and helping reintegrate those recently released in their communities through her foundation Fundación Mujer Levántate (Woman Standing Up Foundation). Committed to the principles of human fraternity, she manages temporary shelter for female prisoners who have nowhere to go upon their release.

On this occasion, His Holiness Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church said: “Those who have been awarded the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2024 are recognized for their united commitment to the progress of humanity and promotion of peaceful coexistence. I trust that their example has meant an incentive for others to undertake initiatives born of fruitful collaboration among people of different religions at the service of all humanity.” 

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb said: “This award draws its strength and continuity - after God Almighty - from the esteemed figure of the Arabs, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him and grant him peace. And it reflects the diligent efforts and continuous approach of the United Arab Emirates in spreading the culture of fraternity and global peace.” 

For his part, Secretary-General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam said: “Our 2024 independent judging committee reviewed hundreds of nominations of inspiring and impactful individuals and organizations. This year’s honorees are true champions of human fraternity across cultures, countries, and fields. This year’s honorees demonstrate that the award has truly become a global initiative and a significant platform to advance the values of human fraternity.”

Sheikh Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of Indonesia’s Nahdlatul Ulama said: “Nahdlatul Ulama is honored to receive the 2024 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, alongside fellow Indonesian organization, Muhammadiyah. This moment truly unites the people of Indonesia and people of goodwill around the world. This award will enable us to continue our humanitarian and peacebuilding efforts as the largest Islamic organization in the world with over 121 million members.”

Dr. Haedar Nashir, General Chairman of Muhammadiyah said: “We are increasingly enthusiastic to continue working optimally in carrying out humanitarian roles at local, regional and international levels. This Zayed Award is very important and meaningful for the human fraternity movement in the world. It is a momentum to raise awareness in the hearts of all humans that we cannot live on this earth alone and must be together in sincere and authentic fraternity.”

World-renowned cardiac surgeon, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub said: “I am honored to be a small part in this great endeavor uniting people from all over the world to treat everyone with fairness and integrity and not discriminate between people. I look forward to working with the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity team to achieve our shared objectives.”

Sister Nelly Leon Correa, the President and Co-Founder of Fundación Mujer Levántate (Woman Standing Up Foundation) said: “More than 14,000 kilometers from Abu Dhabi in the women's prison of Santiago in Chile, the inmates are currently accompanying us in this ceremony. When they found out that I had been awarded, they also felt like winners and expressed it with cries of true happiness, a cry of joy that is rarely heard inside a prison facility. This award will be a new impetus for us to work for them, for their children, for their families.”

NORWEGIAN SEAFOOD COUNCIL MARKS RECORD YEAR AS IT RETURNS TO GULFOOD 2024

 

 

Dubai, UAE, 6 February 2024 – The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), a dedicated marketing partner to Norway’s aquaculture industry and global advocate for Norwegian fisheries, has announced its participation in the 29^th edition of Gulfood, which will be held in Dubai from 19 to 23 February 2024. The NSC is returning to the exhibition following its contribution to last year’s installment, as it highlights the success of 2023 and seeks to support the increasing value of Norwegian seafood throughout the Gulf.

 

As the largest annual F&B sourcing event in the world, Gulfood provides a unique networking platform that allows the NSC to share its knowledge and products with a diverse international audience. The event is expected to bring together over 5,500 major global brands spanning 127 countries, driving exposure for innovative approaches to business within the global F&B ecosystem.

 

Last year, the NSC marked the occasion with a celebration of its 25-year history as a supplier of Norwegian seafood to the United Arab Emirates (UAE); this year, the group is commemorating 2023 as a record year for exports, both to the UAE and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

 

Over the last 12 months, the NSC has exported a total of 10,997 metric tonnes of seafood to the UAE – a 35 per cent increase from 2022, with a value exceeding 345,000 AED. Of the 10,997 tonnes, 9,866 of it was salmon, signaling the overwhelming demand for fresh, whole pink fish. Frozen salmon also comprised a significant portion of the export, with an annual growth rate of 223 per cent; experts link the rise to increased consumption and the UAE’s strengthening position as a regional hub for salmon consumption.

 

Similar statistics are seen in exports to KSA, with over 9,500 tonnes of seafood exports valuing over 285,000 AED. Salmon maintained its popularity, accounting for 7,169 tonnes, with demand for fresh whole salmon remaining highest. The targeted response to rising demand in the region – and subsequent success in export trends – follows the findings of a comprehensive digital survey conducted by the NSC across the UAE and KSA last year.

 

The study – which aimed to analyse rates of fish consumption, address awareness levels of Norway as a country of origin, and note key drivers and barriers to purchasing salmon – identified that 28 per cent of respondents in KSA ate seafood at least once a week, with over half (51 per cent) of all respondents who eat seafood at least once every three months opting to prepare their meals at home, as opposed ordering in or dining at a restaurant. In the UAE, 34 per cent of respondents are fish or seafood at least once a week, with 55 per cent choosing to eat at home.

 

The results also indicated that Norway was top-of-mind as the dominant country of origin for salmon across both KSA and the UAE, highlighting an increased awareness of and consideration for product history and quality. Key drivers for buying seafood throughout the region were consistent, with the majority of respondents buying salmon for its taste and health benefits, while cost and availability were highlighted as factors that hindered respondents’ purchasing power.

 

Commenting on the learnings from last year and the NSC’s attendance of Gulfood 2024, Ingelill Jacobsen, Project Manager Emerging Markets, said: “Throughout 2023, we have witnessed a dynamic increase in the synergy between the supply and demand of the Norwegian and Middle Eastern seafood markets, and have been able to respond accordingly to meet a rising interest in fresh, high quality aquaculture products from Norway. From the survey we conducted late last year, we are now also able to begin addressing the obstacles that consumers are facing – including high costs and limited availability – ensuring that Norwegian salmon becomes easily accessible for buyers in both the UAE and KSA.”

 

She continued: “We look forward to returning to Gulfood to share Norway’s passion for seafood with the Middle East and remain committed to fostering relationships that will advance ongoing efforts to bring premium Norwegian seafood to all surrounding regional markets.”

جزيرة الجبيل تطلق أول برنامج للفنون العامة ضمن فعاليات معرض "فن الحياة"

 

أُقيمت النسخة الثانية من الحدث في جزيرة الجبيل خلال الفترة من 1 إلى 4 فبراير 2024

• جزيرة الجبيل تطلق أول برنامج للفنون العامة خلال فعاليات المعرض، وتكشف عن العمل الفني الفريد "الطاقة التحويلية" للفنان طارق القاصوف كأول عمل فني ضمن البرنامج
• يتضمن برنامج الفنون العامة مجموعة مختارة من الأعمال الفنية التي سيتم عرضها في مجتمعات جزيرة الجبيل على مدار الأشهر المقبلة، لتعكس الترابط بين الفن والعمارة والطبيعة. 

الإمارات العربية المتحدة، أبوظبي – 6 فبراير 2024: احتفلت جزيرة الجبيل في أبوظبي بإطلاق برنامج الفنون العامة ضمن معرض فن الحياة "آرت أوف ليفينغ"،  والذي أقيمت نسخته الثانية هذا العام بالشراكة مع Architectural Digest Middle East.

وتضمن المعرض، الذي يعكس التزام جزيرة الجبيل تجاه إثراء الثقافة والمجتمع في أبوظبي، مجموعة من أعمال فنانين من مختلف أنحاء العالم، استعرضوا أعمالهم في فلل العرض في جزيرة الجبيل. وأتيحت الفرصة للضيوف خلال فعاليات المعرض للتعرف على الأعمال الإبداعية المعروضة واستكشاف الفلل الراقية في المشروع ونبذة عن أسلوب العيش المجتمعي في جزيرة الجبيل، إضافة إلى الاستمتاع بأجواء غامرة من الأضواء والموسيقى والعروض الحية في الهواء الطلق.

وضمن هذا الحدث السنوي، أطلقت جزيرة الجبيل برنامج الفنون العامة، والذي يعد مبادرة جديدة تدمج الفن مع مجتمع جزيرة الجبيل ومساحاتها العامة وسط المناظر الطبيعية الخلّابة. وكان العمل الفني "الطاقة التحويلية" للفنان طارق القاصوف أول الأعمال التي عرضت ضمن البرنامج في جزيرة الجبيل، والتي تم الكشف عنها خلال فعاليات معرض فن الحياة "آرت أوف ليفينغ" لهذا العام.

وفي هذا السياق قال محمود دندشلي، الرئيس التنفيذي لقطاع الأعمال في شركة ليد للتطوير العقاري: "تم تصميم برنامج الفنون العامة لتشجيع المقيمين بجزيرة الجبيل وزوارها على التفاعل مع الفن بشكل يومي. فقد أثبت الفن قدرته الفعّالة على تحفيز الفكر والتصوّر، وتقدير جماله وتأثيره على العواطف. ويعكس هذا البرنامج جوهر الجزيرة، ويضيف مزيداً من السحر والجمال إليها، كما يُعزّز الأثر الإيجابي على مجتمع أبوظبي ودولة الإمارات بشكل عام، مما يحقق أثراً مستداماً وإرثاً لأجيال المستقبل".

ويُعتبر طارق القاصوف فناناً ونحاتاً متميزاً حاصلاً على عدة جوائز عالمية لأعماله الفنية المعاصرة، يدفع باستمرار حدود ما هو ممكن في عالم النحت. وفي بيانه الفني، يناقش طارق مفهوم التوازن بعد التحول.

ويتضمن العمل الفني لطارق القاصوف الذي يحمل اسم "الطاقة التحويلية"، والمعروض في جزيرة الجبيل، ستة منحوتات فريدة تم نحتها بدقة، ولكل منها طابع ورسالة تميزها. وتم تصميم هذا العمل الفني بعناية باستخدام أحجار البازلت والصخر الكلسي، مما يضمن متانته ومقاومته للعوامل البيئية. ويُجسّد العمل الفني الروح الديناميكية والتطور السريع الذي شهدته دولة الإمارات، وهو مستوحى من التزام الدولة تجاه الاستدامة والإرث الثقافي العريق. 

حول مشاركته في برنامج الفنون العامة في جزيرة الجبيل، قال طارق القاصوف: "وجد هذا العمل الفني منزله في مكان يتمتع بجمال لا مثيل له. وأنا فخور بمساهمتي في تطوير المشهد الفني الطبيعي المزدهر في جزيرة الجبيل وفي أبوظبي بشكل عام".

وفي حديثه عن عمله الفني، أضاف القاصوف: "إن التقارب بين المنحوتات الحجرية ومحميات أشجار القرم في جزيرة الجبيل قد يبدو متناقضاً، ولكن التعمق بتناغمهما الرمزي يكشف العلاقة الدقيقة والمعقدة التي تجمع بينهما، فهناك انسجام بين العمل الفني الدائم وجمال الطبيعة الزائل، وكلاهما يعملان معاً على تقديم تجربة شمولية تتشابك فيها حكايات الإبداع البشري والطبيعة باعتبارها مصدر إلهام دائم".

وتجدر الإشارة إلى أنه قد تم الكشف عن العمل الفني "الطاقة التحويلية"، والذي يبلغ ارتفاعه 3.25 متر، خلال فعاليات معرض "آرت أوف ليفينغ" بجزيرة الجبيل، حيث أتيحت الفرصة لجميع أفراد مجتمع الجزيرة وضيوفها للاستمتاع بتجربة غامرة جديدة للحياة في الجزيرة، حيث تمتزج العمارة والفن مع الطبيعة.

تبلغ ميزانية مشروع جزيرة الجبيل 15 مليار درهم إماراتي، وهو مشروع مملوك لشركة جزيرة الجبيل للاستثمار، وتتولى شركة ليد للتطوير العقاري مسؤولية تنفيذه وإداراته، ويشمل ست قرى سكنية تتميز بتصميمها الفريد والمبتكر وتقع بين جزيرتي ياس والسعديات.

The international grand finale of the third edition of the YouthX Challenge will pit teams from leading restaurants and hotels in the UAE (SLS and Atlantis The Palm), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Four Seasons Riyadh), Kenya, and the USA against each other for a chance to win an internship at an international 3-Michelin star restaurant. Last year’s winners recently completed a successful internship with Chef Heinz Beck at La Pergola in Rome.

جائزة زايد للأخوة الإنسانية تعلن عن أسماء المكرمين للعام 2024

الإمارات العربية المتحدة، أبوظبي – 2 فبراير 2024: أعلنت جائزة زايد للأخوة الإنسانية اليوم عن أسماء المكرمين بجائزتها للعام 2024، حيث يشترك في الجائزة كل من الجمعيتين الإسلاميتين في إندونيسيا جمعية نهضة العلماء والجمعية المحمدية، وجراح القلب المصري الشهير عالمياً السير مجدي يعقوب، والقائدة المجتمعية الأخت نيلي ليون كوريا من تشيلي. 

تم اختيار المكرمين لهذا العام من قبل لجنة تحكيم مستقلة، اختارتهم بناءً على جهودهم الاستثنائية في مواجهة التحديات المجتمعية المعقدة والتشجيع على التعايش السلمي والتكافل بين الناس على المستوى المحلي والدولي. وسيتم تكريم الفائزين بالجائزة خلال مراسم التكريم الذي يقام يوم 5 فبراير 2024 في صرح زايد المؤسس بالعاصمة الإماراتية أبوظبي. 

تم اختيار جمعية نهضة العلماء والجمعية المحمدية، أكبر جمعيتين إسلاميتين في إندونيسيا وتضما أكثر من 190 مليون عضو، لجهودهما الإنسانية القيمة ومساعيهما لنشر السلام. فقد نجحت الجمعيتان في تحسين حياة عدد لا يحصى من الإندونيسيين والفئات المجتمعية الضعيفة في جميع أنحاء العالم من خلال إنشاء المؤسسات التعليمية والمستشفيات ومشاريع التخفيف من حدة الفقر. 

ويتم تكريم جراح القلب صاحب الشهرة العالمية الواسعة، البروفيسور السير مجدي يعقوب، تقديراً لجهوده في تمكين الرعاية الطبية لإنقاذ حياة من هم في أمس الحاجة إليها، بما في ذلك الفئات المجتمعية الأضعف. وبصفته مؤسس مؤسسة مجدي يعقوب للقلب في مصر، ومنظمة سلسلة الأمل الخيرية في المملكة المتحدة، ساعد الدكتور يعقوب في إنقاذ آلاف الأرواح، وخاصة الأطفال. وقد افتتح مراكز للقلب في إثيوبيا وموزمبيق، ويجري حالياً إنشاء مركز في كيغالي برواندا. يشار إلى أن تقنياته الجراحية الرائدة أحدثت ثورة في زراعة القلب، وقد حصل على العديد من الأوسمة، بما في ذلك وسام الفروسية البريطاني، ووسام النيل الكبير، ووسام الاستحقاق من الملكة إليزابيث الثانية.

أما الأخت نيللي ليون كوريا - المعروفة باسم "الأم نيللي"- فهي الرئيس والمؤسس المشارك لمؤسسة Fundación Mujer Levántate (مؤسسة المرأة الصامدة)، وهي منظمة غير حكومية تركز على تقديم الدعم الشامل للسيدات السجينات، وذلك اعتباراً من فترة وجودهن في السجن وحتى مرور عام على إطلاق سراحهن حتى يتمكن من بناء حياة جديدة والاندماج مجدداً في مجتمعاتهن. تنطلق أعمال المؤسسة من منظور الأخوة الإنسانية، حيث تدير مأوى مؤقتاً للسجينات اللاتي ليس لديهن مكان يذهبن إليه عندما يتم إطلاق سراحهن. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن أربعة وتسعون بالمائة من المشاركات في برامج الأخت نيللي لا تواجهن إدانات جديدة خلال عامين من إطلاق سراحهن من السجن.

وبهذه المناسبة قال المستشار محمد عبدالسلام، الأمين العام لجائزة زايد للأخوّة الإنسانية: "تزامناً مع اليوم الدولي للأخوة الإنسانية، نتشرف بتكريم ثلاثة من الأفراد والجهات التي تمثل تجسيداً حقيقياً لقيم الوثيقة. ويسر جائزة زايد للأخوة الإنسانية أن تعلن أسماء المكرّمين لهذا العام ممن جسدوا قيم الأخوة الإنسانية ليكونوا منارة للأمل في مجتمعاتهم، حيث اتبع كل منهم رؤية نبيلة تسعى إلى عالم أكثر سلاماً. وسنحرص على أن يكون هذا التكريم دافعاً لهم لمواصلة وتسريع جهودهم كلٌ في مجاله."

وقد سُميت جائزة زايد للأخوة الإنسانية باسم الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، مؤسس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة (طيب الله ثراه) والذي عُرف بجهوده الإنسانية وتفانيه في مد يد العون للشعوب من مختلف الثقافات والخلفيات.

Ahlan Modi, Unity in Diversity: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Grace Historic meet as registrations cross 60,000.

Abu Dhabi, UAE –(3.2.2024) The Indian community in the UAE is set to host a grand cultural extravaganza, a testament to the unity and friendship between India and the UAE with the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. This historic event is scheduled for the evening of February 13th at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Celebrated as one of the most significant assemblies for Prime Minister Modi outside Indian borders, the gathering is an homage to "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," an Indian worldview that espouses global brotherhood. This event serves to affirm the rich cultural heritage and inclusiveness that epitomizes the Indian diaspora.

In preparation for an evening of such monumental scale, with over 60,000 individuals who have already registered, the organizing committee is engaged in meticulous coordination with Abu Dhabi authorities to guarantee an event marked by grandeur and seamless execution.
