Spectacular Opening for the 5th Edition of the UAE SWAT Challenge 2024 in Dubai

The UAE SWAT Challenge 2024, now in its fifth edition, commenced with a spectacular display of fireworks and a massive public turnout at the Al Ruwayyah Training City in Dubai. 

The challenge was officially inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and His Excellency Omran Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Advanced Science and Technology, alongside His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, senior officers, diplomatic mission heads, and tactical team leaders from across the globe.

Opening Ceremony: Inspiring Unity and Excellence

The ceremony commenced with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, performed by the Dubai Police band, followed by a powerful address from Dubai Police underscoring the significance of global collaboration in elevating tactical responses to security challenges worldwide. 

"Today marks a gathering of the world's finest in a quest for excellence, safety, and the pursuit of unparalleled skill," Dubai Police highlighted, inspiring participants and onlookers with a message of solidarity and ambition.

The ceremony ended with a bang of fireworks that delighted the audience and guests. 

Day 1: The Tactical Competition

Following the opening ceremony, the first competition, "The Tactical Event," got underway. This event requires six members from each team to achieve the highest level of seamless coordination and the ability to engage targets with precision shooting while overcoming time constraints. 

Five Days of Adrenaline-filled Events 

Over the next four days, teams will face challenges in obstacle courses, officer rescue missions, tower events, and assault competitions, each demanding tactical strategies, physical capabilities, and skilfulness to accumulate points.

260,000 $ to Grab

Teams will compete for challenge prizes totalling $260,000, distributed daily to the top three teams, and awards for the overall leaders at the challenge's conclusion.

Open to the Public 

It is worth noting that this year's edition of the UAE SWAT Challenge is open to the public, who can conveniently get free entry tickets on the Dubai Platinum List website and Virgin Megastores. 

Spectators will have the opportunity to indulge in various cuisines offered by different restaurants, explore sports and products, and other items showcased by the challenge's partners.

وأكدت اللجنة لعليا المنظمة لتحدي اإلمارات للفرق التكتيكية في شرطة دبي، أن "النسخة الخامسة من تحدي اإلمارات للفرق التكتيكية" هذا العام سجلت العدد األكبر من الفرق الراغبة بفضلفي خوض المنافسات من مختلف دول العالم، مشيرة إلى أن التحدي شهد تطوراً كبيراً دعم وتوجيهات معالي الفريق عبد هللا خليفة المري، الذي يتابع أدق التفاصيل لتنظيم الفعاليات وفق أفضل المعايير ونوعية المنافسات والتحضيرات اإلدارية والميدانية، التي تتم على قدم وساق الستقبال كل الفرق العالمية.

New Regional Climate Lab Launched at Partnership Development for Climate Adaptation in Arab States Conference to Enhance Access to Clean Air and Water

 

 

Cairo, Egypt – 27 September 2023

 

Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science and learning, and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab Middle East and North Africa (J-PAL MENA) at the American University in Cairo, have announced plans to launch a new J-PAL air and water lab.

 

In the MENA region, 90 percent of children already face high or extreme water scarcity. The new lab will offer the opportunity to institutionalise evidence-informed air and water policies into the Egyptian government and offer millions of people access to clean air and water.

 

Community Jameel is supporting at least five J-PAL labs focused on clean air and water – at the national government level in Egypt, at the city level in Cape Town, and at the state level in India, including Gujarat – collectively serving nearly 260 million people. It will also support two C40-led labs focused on sustainable urban planning in South and West Asia, based in Chennai, India, and Amman, Jordan. J-PAL and C40 will collaborate to leverage learnings.

 

Plans to launch the new air and water lab in Cairo were announced at the Partnership Development forClimate Adaptation in Arab States (PDCA) conference, a two-day conference organised by J-PAL MENA, the Arab Water Council, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, in partnership with Community Jameel.

 

With a focus on advancing evidence-based strategies for effective climate solutions to support efforts on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), the conference aimed to introduce randomised evaluations to policymakers and practitioners, support regional practitioners in setting the adaptation agenda, and empower climate negotiators representing Arab states at COP28 in the United Arab Emirates. Leveraging J-PAL’s research insights, the PDCA conference aims to inform the climate adaptation agenda and highlight how randomised evaluations can serve as a tool to guide investments towards impactful climate solutions.

 

George Richards, director of Community Jameel, said: “Swift climate action is critical – now more than ever. Our commitment to promoting policies and solutions rooted in evidence aims to ensure that actions undertaken by governments have maximum impact. Our recently launched air and water lab in Egypt, in partnership with J-PAL MENA, will generate evidence to inform effective policymaking which will enhance access to clean air and water for millions of Egyptians in the face of climate change. Through this conference, we hope to support climate actors in the region to leverage more evidence in the solutions and partnerships which will drive a more coordinated response to the worsening climate crisis.”

Community Jameel has previously partnered with J-PAL to advance evidence-based policymaking through partnerships with governments to allow for enhanced policies and programmes in line with development priorities. In 2022, J-PAL Middle East and North Africa launched the Egypt Impact Lab in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, with foundational support from Community Jameel and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.

 

Since its establishment in 2003, more than 600 million people have been reached by programmes informed by evaluations by J-PAL affiliated researchers, and in 2019 its co-founders, Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, along with longtime J-PAL affiliated professor Michael Kremer, won the Nobel prize in economics for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.

وكجزء من الوفد المشارك، ستعرض شركة فيوليا لأنظمة المياه مسألة إزالة الكربون من المياه، مستفيدة من خبرتها في حلول معالجة المياه المطبقة بالفعل في الشرق الأوسط. تستخدم شركة فيوليا التقنيات الرقمية لتقليل اعتماد قطاع المياه على الوقود الأحفوري، وتعمل بشكل نشط على إنشاء مرافق لاستعادة الموارد المائية.

في هذا الإطار، قال أكسيل بارو، المفوض التجاري والاستثماري الفرنسي والمدير الإقليمي لوكالة بيزنس فرانس الشرق الأوسط: "يؤكد الجناح الفرنسي على الدور الهام لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة والشرق الأوسط في مشهد الطاقة العالمي إضافة إلى الخبرة الفرنسية في هذا المجال. وتعترف فرنسا بأهمية التحول إلى مصادر الطاقة النظيفة، ويقدم "أديبك 2023" مكانًا مثاليًا للتواصل مع خبراء الطاقة والمسؤولين الحكوميين والمتعاملين المحتملين. ومع ارتفاع كفاءة استخدام الطاقة والتقنيات النظيفة وتطوير الهيدروجين في فرنسا، هناك فرصة تعاون ضخمة تنشأ مع شركائنا المحليين، وهو ما أصبح واضحًا بالفعل مع بعض الشركات العارضة المشاركة في مشاريع الطاقة الرئيسية في المنطقة.

إن التزام فرنسا بمستقبل منخفض الكربون واضح، مع تحول صناعة النفط والغاز في البلاد نحو الوقود منخفض الكربون والكهرباء، تماشيًا مع هدف خفض الانبعاثات إلى الصفر بحلول عام 2050 بموجب القانون المتعلق بالطاقة والمناخ لعام 2019. وقد قادت فرنسا تطوير سياسة الهيدروجين الأوروبية، لمعالجة إزالة الكربون بشكل عميق في القطاعات الحيوية مثل مصافي التكرير والصناعات الكيماوية وإنتاج الصلب والتنقل. وبموجب خطة "فرنسا 2030" للاستثمار، تم تخصيص 1,9 مليار يورو (7,6 مليار درهم إماراتي) لتقنيات الهيدروجين الخالية من الكربون، بما يتماشى مع طموح فرنسا لقيادة إنتاج الهيدروجين الأخضر و5,6 مليار يورو (22,4 مليار درهم إماراتي) لإنتاج الهيدروجين الأخضر، بهدف إزالة الكربون من قطاع الطاقة.

وتساهم هذه المبادرات الاستشرافية في تعزيز الخبرة الفرنسية التي وجدت أرضًا خصبة في الشرق الأوسط. وفي فبراير، خلال زيارة ترأسها أوليفييه بيشت، وزير شؤون أوروبا والتجارة الخارجية وشؤون الفرنسيين بالخارج، أطلقت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وفرنسا برنامجًا تعاونيًا للاستفادة من الخبرات الفرنسية والإماراتية في تسريع الفرص الجاهزة للسوق في قطاع الطاقة النظيفة، مع التركيز على إزالة الكربون من الصناعات التي تواجه تحدياً في هذا المجال واستكشاف حلول الهيدروجين النظيف للتنقل.
