Record-breaking Automechanika Dubai 2023 Opens Next Week

 

The 20th edition of Automechanika Dubai is sold out, with 1,921 exhibitors from 61 nations and more than 45,000 visitors expected


Sustainability and efficiency are leading the agenda as part of the exhibition’s newly launched zone, Innovations4Mobility, which will be opened by Eng. Moza Alnuaimi, Director – Productivity & Demand, UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure


Dubai, UAE: Automechanika Dubai, the largest international trade exhibition for the automotive aftermarket and service industry, will return for a landmark 20th edition next week.


From 2-4 October, the event will span 14 halls at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), showcasing a diverse range of innovative products, services and technologies in front of an international audience.


Organised by Messe Frankfurt, Automechanika 2023 will welcome 1,912 exhibitors from 61 countries and will feature 20 official country pavilions, with visitor numbers expected to exceed 45,000. A premier networking hub for the Middle East’s automotive aftermarket community, the 2023 event will build on the success of last year’s edition, where C-suite professionals and managing directors accounted for 32 percent of visitors to the show.


Sustainability and efficiency will top the agenda at the dedicated Innovation4Mobility zone, exploring alternate fuel vehicles, driving technologies, digitisation, connectivity and smart infrastructure. The opening session will be delivered by Eng. Moza Alnuaimi, Director – Productivity & Demand, UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure and will provide an overview of the UAE’s Vision of Future Mobility on the opening day.


Mahmut Gazi Bilikozen, Portfolio Director at Automechanika Dubai organiser Messe Frankfurt Middle East, said: “The past two decades have seen phenomenal growth in the automotive aftermarket industry and the Middle East automotive market alone is set to reach $704 billion by 2025. Also taking place on 2 October is the Lubricants Technology Conference, located at PitStop 3 in the Trade Centre Arena, and dedicated to exploring how the lubricant additives market can meet its environmental objectives, an issue of particular importance as 2023 has been mandated the ‘Year of Sustainability’ in the UAE.


On day two, one of the highlights will be The Automechanika Dubai Awards, now in its third edition. Celebrating excellence and innovation in the automotive industry, the awards are judged by a panel of highly respected regional and international judges who have shortlisted 30 finalists for this year’s event. Interest has grown significantly this year in the ‘Women in Automotive’ section, and new award categories include ‘Digitalisation Project of the Year’, ‘Digital Product of the Year’, ‘Start-up of the Year’ and a highly-anticipated special recognition award.


On day three, Automechanika Dubai’s popular AfriConnections conference will take place. The platform has been designed to connect African buyers with global suppliers, where, in times of stagnating sales markets and growing legal regulations in saturated markets, the Sub-Saharan region is becoming increasingly attractive for the global automotive industry. The opening session will discuss the future opportunities in the developing African Automotive Aftermarket.

وستتصدر الاستدامة والكفاءة جدول الأعمال في منطقة الابتكار في مجال التنقل Innovation4Mobility المخصصة، لاستكشاف مركبات الوقود البديلة، وتقنيات القيادة والرقمنة والاتصال والبنية التحتية الذكية، حيث سيتم افتتاح هذه الجلسة من قبل المهندسة موزة النعيمي، مديرة الإنتاج والطلب في وزارة الطاقة والبنية التحتية في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، والتي ستقدم من خلالها لمحة عامة عن رؤية دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة للتنقل المستقبلي في يوم افتتاح المعرض.

AUC RELEASES THE AUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY OF SIR MAGDI YACOUB, A SURGEON AND A MAVERICK

 

September 24, 2023, Cairo – The American University in Cairo Press (AUC Press) announces the

release of the captivating and thought-provoking book, "A Surgeon and a Maverick: The Life and

Pioneering Work of Magdi Yacoub." In this first authorized biography of heart surgeon Sir Magdi

Yacoub, veteran journalists Simon Pearson and Fiona Gorman follow his remarkable life, from his

formative years in Egypt, through spectacular success at Cairo University, to his long and

distinguished career in Britain, leading up to his knighthood in 1992, and his 2014 awarding of the

highest honor in the gift of the Queen, the Order of Merit.




A visionary and trailblazer, Yacoub revolutionized the treatment of children’s congenital heart

disease forty years ago through innovation, dedication, and a fearless approach to challenges. In

1983, he performed the UK's first combined heart and lung transplant at Harefield Hospital. Among

his patients are men and women who are still thriving more than thirty-five years after he gave

them new hope.

The book includes captivating, vivid storytelling, rich anecdotes, and behind-the-scenes accounts

that bring to life the challenges and triumphs faced by this living legend. Authors, Pearson and

Gorman, commented on the writing process, saying, “We ended up spending a lot of time with

Prof,” as Yacoub is often called. “We also conducted forty-odd additional interviews with patients,

colleagues, key members of his team, friends, and families he’d helped. It was such a privilege to

hear these stories and to have the opportunity to learn firsthand the impact Yacoub has had on

people’s lives and on their children’s lives.”

Dubai, UAE – 11 September 2023: This season, Tashkeel – one of the UAE’s key art and design incubators – is accepting applications from artists and designers for its three most prestigious initiatives: First Solo Residency, Critical Practice Programme and Tanween Design Programme.  With each platform offering creative practitioners the chance to strengthen skills, push practice and develop new work, Tashkeel continues its commitment to the UAE visual art and design sector.

 

Deadline for submissions

First Solo Residency (for Tashkeel members only): 10pm, 26 September

Critical Practice Programme (for UAE-based creatives): 10pm, 10 October

Tanween Design Programme (for UAE-based creatives): 2 October until 10pm, 19 November

 

First Solo Residency: Entering its third edition, Tashkeel's First Solo Residency programme is a remarkable opportunity exclusively for Tashkeel members to refine their practice, experiment with new mediums and showcase work. The two six-week residencies (24 Oct – 22 Dec 2023 & 2 Jan – 4 March 2024) provide a package of studio space, mentorship, resources and funding leading to a solo exhibition at Tashkeel Al Fahidi. Natalya Konforti (one of 5 artists who have benefited from a residency so far) said, “The First Solo Residency offered an invaluable experience, profoundly benefiting my artistic practice. The dedicated space in Al Fahidi, a truly inspiring neighbourhood, facilitated growth and exploration. With the added institutional support and mentorship provided by Tashkeel, the impact was so transformative.”

 

Critical Practice Programme: With applications open until 10 October, the ninth edition of Tashkeel’s Critical Practice Programme (CPP) fosters critical thinking and experimentation, offering a vehicle for thought-provoking dialogue, artistic expansion and engagement with contemporary art.  The 12-month journey (January to December 2024) will prompt the chosen artists to challenge convention, enrich their creative processes, engage with mentors and develop new skills while undertaking research and experimentation leading to the production of a new body of work, to be showcased in a six-week solo exhibition at Tashkeel in 2025.

 

"Tashkeel’s Critical Practice Programme provided me with the two most vital elements I needed to rediscover my love of making art – the time and space from creativity and inspiration to evolve, and the mentorship of two highly-respected thought leaders.” said Sophiya Khawja, CPP2022 alumni. The Tashkeel Critical Practice Programme counts some of the UAE’s most celebrated artists among its 16-strong alumni, including Vikram Divecha, Chafa Ghaddar, Mays AlBaik, Hind Mezaina and Shamma Al Amri.

 

Tanween Design Programme: The 11^th edition of this groundbreaking 11-month programme encompasses ideation, experimentation, prototyping and manufacturing of a commercially viable design piece that embodies the values of UAE contemporary design and the principles of sustainability. By utilising natural resources, traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge manufacturing technology, Tanween provides the necessary training ground for early-career design practitioners to develop their own voice and establish themselves in the UAE market, with the debut of their final designs at Dubai Design Week. Tashkeel will be accepting applications for the 2024 Tanween Design Programme between 2 October and 19 November.

 

To date, 39 UAE-based designers have participated in the Tanween Design Programme at Tashkeel, with the latest 5-strong cohort due to reveal their designs at Downtown Design 2023.  Alumni include UAE national designers Abdalla Almulla, Latifa Saeed and Reema Al Mheiri, as well as Hamza Al Omari and Huda Al Aithan, among others .

 

“Tashkeel’s professional development programmes have become highly prized opportunities for UAE-based creatives to enhance their skills, strengthen their knowledge and realise their new-found vision in the form of innovative new work. حاضنة الفن والتصميم تفتح الباب أمام طلبات الالتحاق ببرنامج الممارسة النقدية وبأول برنامج إقامة فنية فردية يتبعهما قريباً برنامج تنوين للتصميم

 

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 11 سبتمبر 2023 – يستعدّ مركز "تشكيل"، أحد المراكز البارزة الحاضنة للفن والتصميم في دولة الإمارات، هذا الموسم، لاستقبال طلبات الفنانين والمصممين الراغبين في المشاركة في مبادراته الثلاث المرموقة: أول برنامج إقامة فنية فردية، وبرنامج الممارسة النقدية، وبرنامج تنوين للتصميم. ويواصل "تشكيل" التزامه تجاه دعم قطاع الفنون البصرية والتصميم في دولة الإمارات، متيحاً الفرصة أمام الممارسين المبدعين في جميع منصاته لصقل مهاراتهم وإثراء ممارساتهم وتطوير أعمال جديدة.

 

وأعلن مركز تشكيل عن المواعيد النهائية لتقديم الطلبات، كالتالي:

·        أول برنامج إقامة فنية فردية (لأعضاء تشكيل فقط): الساعة 10 مساء يوم 26 سبتمبر.

·        برنامج الممارسة النقدية (للمبدعين المقيمين في دولة الإمارات): الساعة 10 مساء يوم 10 أكتوبر.

·        برنامج تنوين للتصميم (للمبدعين المقيمين في دولة الإمارات): يفتح باب التسجيل يوم 2 أكتوبر ويستمرّ حتى الساعة 10 مساء يوم 19 نوفمبر.

 

أول برنامج إقامة فنية فردية: يُعد أول برنامج إقامة فنية فردية من تشكيل، في نسخته الثالثة، فرصة مميزة متاحة حصرياً لأعضاء المركز حصرياً لتحسين ممارساتهم وتجربة وسائل جديدة وعرض أعمالهم الفنية. ويتألف البرنامج من إقامتين مدة كل منهما ستة أسابيع (تقام الأولى بين 24 أكتوبر و22 ديسمبر 2023 والثانية بين 2 يناير و4 مارس 2024) تتيحان باقة تتضمن مساحات عمل في الاستوديو وتلقّي الإرشاد والاستفادة من الموارد والحصول على التمويل، ليُتوّج كل ذلك بإقامة معرض فردي في مرافق "تشكيل" الواقعة في حيّ الفهيدي التاريخي. وقالت ناتاليا كونفورتي (واحدة من 5 فنانات شاركن في البرنامج) بأن برنامج أول إقامة فنية فردية قدم تجربة "لا تقدر بثمن، عادت بالنفع على ممارستي الفنية"، مشيرة إلى أن المساحة المخصصة في الفهيدي، الذي وصفته بالحيّ الباعث على الإلهام، "قد سهّلت عليّ مسألتي النمو والاستكشاف، وكان التأثير جذرياً بفضل الدعم المؤسسي الإضافي والإرشاد الذي قدمه تشكيل".

 

برنامج الممارسة النقدية: تعمل النسخة التاسعة من هذا البرنامج لدى "تشكيل"، والتي يستمرّ تلقي طلبات المشاركة فيها حتى 10 أكتوبر، على تعزيز التفكير والتجريب النقديين، ما يفتح قناة للحوار المثير للفكر والتوسّع الفني والتفاعل مع الفن المعاصر. ومن المقرّر أن يدفع البرنامج، الذي يمتدّ لاثني عشر شهراً (من يناير إلى ديسمبر 2024)، الفنانين الذين يقع عليهم الاختيار إلى تحدي التقاليد الفنية وإثراء عملياتهم الإبداعية والتواصل مع الموجهين وتطوير مهارات جديدة أثناء إجراء البحث والتجريب الذي يُنتظر أن يؤدّي إلى إبداع مجموعة جديدة من الأعمال، لتُعرض في معرض فردي لمدة ستة أسابيع يُقام في "تشكيل" عام 2025.

 

وأكّدت صوفيا خواجة، خريجة النسخة 2022 من برنامج الممارسة النقدية، إن البرنامج زودها بعنصرين مهمين "كنت أحتاجهما لإعادة اكتشاف حبي لصناعة الفن؛ الوقت والمكان اللازمين لتحقيق الإبداع والإلهام والتطور، وتلقّي الإرشاد من اثنين من قادة الفكر المرموقين". وقد شارك في برنامج الممارسة النقدية في تشكيل بعض من أشهر الفنانين في دولة الإمارات، وتضمّ كوكبة الخريجين فيه، البالغ عددهم 16 شخصاً، فيكرام ديفيشا، وشفى غدار، وميس البيك، وهند المزينة، وشمّا العامري.

 

برنامج تنوين للتصميم: تشمل النسخة الحادية عشرة من هذا البرنامج الرائد الذي يستمر لمدة 11 شهراً، التفكير والتجريب وصنع النماذج الأولية وتصنيع قطعة تصميم قابلة للإنتاج التجاري تجسّد قيم التصميم المعاصر في دولة الإمارات ومبادئ الاستدامة. ويتيح برنامج تنوين أرضية تدريب ثابتة أمام ممارسي التصميم في بداية حياتهم المهنية، من خلال الاستفادة من الموارد الطبيعية والحِرفية التقليدية وتقنيات التصنيع المتطورة، للتعريف بأنفسهم وتأسيس حضورهم في السوق الإماراتية، وتتويج ذلك بعرض تصاميمهم النهائية لأول مرة في أسبوع دبي للتصميم. هذا، ومن المقرّر أن يبدأ "تشكيل" في استقبال طلبات الاشتراك في برنامج تنوين للتصميم 2024 اعتباراً من 2 أكتوبر القادم ولغاية 19 نوفمبر.

 

وشارك حتى الآن 39 مصمماً مقيماً في دولة الإمارات في برنامج تنوين للتصميم لدى "تشكيل"، ومن المقرر أن يكشف أحدث المصممين المشاركين في البرنامج، وعددهم خمسة، عن تصاميمهم في "داون تاون ديزاين 2023". تشمل قائمة الخريجين في البرنامج المصممين الإماراتيين عبد الله الملا، ولطيفة سعيد، وريما المهيري، وحمزة العمري، وهدى العيثان وغيرهم.

 

وبهذه المناسبة، قالت ليسا باليتشغار نائب مدير مركز تشكيل، إن برامج التطوير المهني التي يقدمها "تشكيل" أصبحت تشكّل فرصاً قيّمة للمبدعين المقيمين في دولة الإمارات والطامحين إلى صقل مهاراتهم وإثراء معارفهم وبلورة رؤيتهم في شكل أعمال جديدة ومبتكرة. وأضافت: "أثبتت هذه التجربة أنها نقطة انطلاق مهمة للحياة المهنية وللممارسة على السواء، مثلما يتضح من قائمة الخريجين المتميزين المتنامية. وتعمل هذه المبادرات على تمكين المبدعين من تطوير حياتهم المهنية والحضور بفاعلية في القطاعات الإبداعية والثقافية المزدهرة في دولة الإمارات".

عرض رئيسي ثلاثي رائع في منافسة حامية تشهدها ليلة الأبطال من دبليو دبليو إي في جدة

وتم تقديم نخبة من نجوم المصارعة الحرة الترفيهية بالتزامن مع صخب الهتافات الترحيبية لعشاق هذا النوع من الترفيه، حيث شهد الحفل قدوم النجوم بول ليفاسك أو "تربل إتش"، ورومان رينز، وسولو سیکوا، وكودي رودز، وسامي زين، وكيفن أوينز، وتريش ستراتوس، وبيكي لينش "ذا مان"، وإيه جاي ستايلز، ومصطفى علي، وبيانكا بيلير.
