The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at The American University in Cairo (AUC) is organizing a webinar to discuss the recently published book "Reaching for the Heights: The Inside Story of a Secret Attempt to Reach a Syrian-Israeli Peace," as part of the Tahrir Dialogue Series.
The book, written by Ambassador Frederic C. Hof, the chief architect and mediator of the 2009 US initiative to broker peace between Israel and Syria, is an insider’s account of secret negotiations to broker a Syria-Israel peace deal. Hof takes the readers behind the scenes in Washington, Damascus, and Jerusalem, where Hafez Al Assad, former president of Syria, and Benjamin Netanyahu, former prime minister of Israel, inched toward a deal to return Israeli-occupied areas of the Golan Heights in exchange for Syria severing military ties with Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas.

Speakers include Ambassador Frederic Hof, the author of the book, and the former US. special envoy to Syria; Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, former ambassador of Egypt and former assistant secretary-general of the United Nations and deputy envoy for Syria; and Nabil Fahmy, former foreign minister and founding dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
