By 2022, the Number of Global Public EV Chargers Will Total 2 Million Units
DUBAI, UAE., January 31, 2022 – Six million electric cars (battery electric and plug-in hybrid) will be shipped in 2022, up from 4 million in 2021, according to a new forecast by Gartner, Inc.
“At COP26 in November 2021, the Zero Emission Vehicle Transition Council agreed that vehicle manufacturers will commit to selling only zero emission vehicles by 2040, and earlier in leading markets, putting pressure on the automotive sector to prepare for the decarbonization in transportation. EVs are an important powertrain technology to help reduce CO2 emissions from the transportation sector,” said Jonathan Davenport, research director at Gartner. “The ongoing shortage of chips will impact the production of EVs in 2022, and while shipments of vans and trucks are currently small, their shipments will grow rapidly as commercial owners see the financial and environmental benefit of electrifying their fleets.”
Gartner forecasts that electric cars will represent 95% of total EV shipments in 2022 and the remainder will be split between buses, vans and heavy trucks (see Table 1).

Greater China and Western Europe to Lead in EV Shipments in 2022
With China imposing a mandate on automakers requiring that EVs make up 40% of all sales by 2030 and automakers establishing new factories for manufacturing electric cars, Gartner estimates that Greater China will account for 46% of global EV shipments in 2022. Greater China will take the No. 1 position in shipments globally, shipping 2.9 million EVs in 2022. Western Europe is on pace to ship 1.9 million units in 2022, ranking No. 2 in EV shipments. North America is expected to be the third highest region in shipments at 855.3 thousand EVs in 2022.
“The EU’s plans to cut CO2 emissions from cars by 55% and vans by 50% by 2030 is a catalyst to the uptake of EVs in Europe,” said Davenport.
As governments across the world introduce new regulations and incentives to fuel EV sales, the automotive industry is also increasing investment in companies that provide charging infrastructure and vehicle battery technology to support and bolster the transition to EVs by consumers and businesses. Gartner forecasts that the number of global public EV chargers will rise from 2.1 million units in 2022, up from 1.6 million units in 2021.
Challenges to Mass EV Deployment Remain
To foster the transition to EVs, automotive manufacturers will have to address several factors such as lowering the price of EVs and batteries, recycling EV batteries, offering a wider selection of vehicle models with more extensive driving range and improving charging infrastructure.
“Additionally, a major issue that must be addressed is lack of fast-charging availability for home and public charging,” said Davenport. “Utility providers will need to increase their investments in smart grid infrastructure to cope with the growing consumption of electricity. Additionally, to meet climate change ambitions, countries which utilize fossil fuels to generate electricity will need to redesign their power generation to respond to the transition.”

عدد محطات الشحن الكهربائية العامة يصل إلى مليوني محطة عالمياً بحلول عام 2022
دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 31 يناير 2022: من المتوقع أن يتم شحن ستة ملايين سيارة كهربائية (سيارات كهربائية هجينة قابلة للشحن وسيارات كهربائية كاملة) في عام 2022، مقارنة بـ 4 ملايين سيارة كهربائية تم شحنها في عام 2021، وذلك وفقاً لأحدث التوقعات الصادرة عن مؤسسة الدراسات والأبحاث العالمية جارتنر.
وفي هذا السياق قال جوناثان دافنبورت، مدير الأبحاث لدى جارتنر: "خلال فعاليات مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتغير المناخي COP26 في شهر نوفمبر 2021، وافق المجلس الخاص بالتحول نحو مركبات عديمة الانبعاثات، على أن يلتزم صانعو السيارات ببيع المركبات التي لا تصدر أية انبعاثات بحلول عام 2040، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز الضغط على قطاع السيارات ضمن الأسواق الرائدة للاستعداد للتحول إلى صافي صفر لمعدلات انبعاث الكربون في قطاع النقل. حيث تعتبر المركبات الكهربائية إحدى أبرز التقنيات التي تساعد على تقليل انبعاثات ثاني أكسيد الكربون من قطاع النقل. سوف يؤثر النقص المستمر في تصنيع الرقائق على حجم إنتاج المركبات الكهربائية في عام 2022، على الرغم من انخفاض أعداد شحنات الشاحنات الكبيرة والصغيرة في الوقت الحالي، إلا أن شحنات هذه المركبات سوف تحقق نمواً سريعاً حيث يرى أصحاب الأعمال التجارية الكثير من المزايا المالية والبيئية التي يمكن أن يحصلوا عليها من خلال زيادة الشاحنات الكهربائية في أساطيلهم".
تتوقع جارتنر أن تمثل السيارات الكهربائية 95% من إجمالي شحنات المركبات الكهربائية في عام 2022، وسوف يتم تقاسم النسبة الباقية بين الحافلات والشاحنات الصغيرة والشاحنات الثقيلة (انظر الجدول 1).

الصين الكبرى وأوروبا الغربية تتصدران أعداد شحنات السيارات الكهربائية في عام 2022
مع فرض الصين قيوداً على شركات صناعة السيارات بحيث تشكل المركبات الكهربائية 40% من إجمالي المبيعات بحلول عام 2030، وأن تقوم شركات صناعة السيارات ببناء مصانع جديدة لتصنيع السيارات الكهربائية، تُقدر جارتنر أن تصدّر الصين الكبرى 46% من شحنات السيارات الكهربائية العالمية في عام 2022. كما سوف تحتل الصين الكبرى المركز الأول في أعداد الشحنات على مستوى العالم، حيث ستقوم بشحن 2.9 مليون مركبة كهربائية في عام 2022. وبالنسبة لأوروبا الغربية، فهي في طريقها لشحن 1.9 مليون وحدة في عام 2022، لتحتل المرتبة الثانية في أعداد شحنات المركبات الكهربائية. ومن المتوقع أن تحتل أمريكا الشمالية المركز الثالث في أعداد الشحنات عند 855.3 ألف مركبة كهربائية في عام 2022.
وقال السيد دافنبورت: "يخطط الاتحاد الأوروبي لخفض انبعاثات ثاني أكسيد الكربون الصادرة عن السيارات بنسبة 55%، وعن الشاحنات الصغيرة بنسبة 50%، وذلك بحلول عام 2030، وهو ما يُعد دافعاً للتحول نحو المركبات الكهربائية بشكل أكبر في أوروبا".
ومع قيام الحكومات في كافة أنحاء العالم بإطلاق لوائح تنظيمية وحوافز جديدة لتعزيز مبيعات السيارات الكهربائية، فإن قطاع السيارات يعمل أيضاً على تعزيز الاستثمار في الشركات التي توفر البنية التحتية المناسبة لشحن بطاريات السيارات، وتكنولوجيا بطاريات السيارات، وذلك بغية دعم وتعزيز عملية تحول المستهلكين والشركات نحو السيارات الكهربائية. وتتوقع جارتنر ارتفاع أعداد محطات الشحن الكهربائية العامة لتصل إلى 2.1 مليون محطة عالمياً في عام 2022، مقارنة بـ 1.6 مليون وحدة في عام 2021.
