More than 678 exhibitors from 51 countries and 19,610 medical laboratory trade professionals expected to participate in the 18th edition of the MENA region’s largest medical laboratory exhibition and congress
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 3rd February 2019: More than 19,610 medical laboratory industry professionals and 678 exhibiting companies from 51 countries will be welcomed in Dubai tomorrow (Monday, 4th February) for the opening of MEDLAB, the MENA region’s largest medical laboratory exhibition and congress.
With the World Bank projecting that the UAE’s population will reach 12.8 million by 2050 (up from 9.4 million in 2017), over three million of whom are expected to be over the age of 60 years, the demand for clinical laboratory services such as blood tests, clinical specimen analysis and DNA sequencing is expected to significantly increase as a result.
The four-day MEDLAB Exhibition & Congress, which is organised by Informa Exhibitions – Healthcare and runs from 4 – 7 February 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is expected to generate business exceeding last year’s value of $166 million as an increasing number of healthcare practitioners now rely on clinical laboratory tests before making a clinical decision on diagnosis and the treatment of diseases.
This year, country representation at MEDLAB remains robust with 15 country pavilions including three new pavilions - Belgium, Turkey and Russia - and one regional pavilion, Berlin. Showcasing the importance of the medical laboratory service industry in the region, many country pavilions at MEDLAB are increasing in size such as the Austrian pavilion which will grow by 15%, and the US and German pavilions which will grow by 12% respectively.
According to a report by Colliers International, which is part of the MEDLAB Market Report Series, there has been a continuous shift in the balance of power from service providers to healthcare insurance companies and from laboratories in hospitals to standalone laboratories – providing better and more advanced technologies as well as lower cost per test due to economies of scale.
Commenting on their participation at MEDLAB 2019, Abdul Hamid Oubeisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi-based National Reference Laboratory (NRL), said: “NRL has continued to work relentlessly throughout 2018 to expand our specialised testing capabilities, and we will be returning to MEDLAB in 2019 to increase awareness among the region's laboratory professionals and healthcare providers of the high-quality diagnostic testing that is available in-country through NRL laboratories. As a key event highlighting the UAE's capabilities in the medical laboratory industry, MEDLAB continues to be the right platform for us to share international best practices and our latest innovations in clinical laboratory testing.”
In addition to the exhibition, MEDLAB also provides an important platform for scientific exchange by bringing together more than 6,700 conference delegates to hear from more than 110 speakers from 20 countries, in an effort to provide advanced medical laboratory techniques for better health.
The 2019 edition will see the introduction of three new tracks including Artificial Intelligence, Immunology, and Cytogenetics & IVF, bringing the total number of CME-accredited multi-disciplinary conferences to 11.
“As the region’s only CME accredited multi-disciplinary congress, we are working closely with our supporting associations including the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, College of American Pathologists, Saudi Society for Clinical Chemistry, Saudi Quality Council, Saudi Society of Haematology, IEEE and the International Society of Blood Transfusion, to provide a selection of multi-disciplinary sessions in laboratory medicine to help medical lab professionals advance their skills and improve care in the region,” said Rejoy Penacerrada, Conference Director, MEDLAB Congress.
Running alongside the laboratory medicine conference tracks will be the Heads of Lab Masterclass, an invitation-only exclusive discussion on clinical laboratory management challenges, which aims to strengthen collaboration and cooperation amongst regional leaders in the lab to better and improve patient services.
MEDLAB will also host a Scientific Poster Zone displaying the latest research from laboratorians worldwide and providing an area for MEDLAB’s delegates to congregate and discuss the latest research, findings and developments within the industry. Offering the know-how on the latest testing methods, findings and technology, a number of workshops – many of which are CME-accredited - will also be hosted by leading laboratory and diagnostic companies and manufacturers on the exhibition floor.

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 3 فبراير 2019: ستستقبل دبي غداً (الإثنين 4 فبراير) أكثر من 19,610 زائر من المتخصّصين والمهنيين العاملين في مجال المختبرات الطبية و678 شركة عارضة من 51 دولة في افتتاح ميدلاب، أضخم معرض ومؤتمر للمختبرات الطبية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا.
وفي ظل تقديرات البنك الدولي التي تشير إلى وصول عدد سكان دولة الإمارات إلى 12.8 مليون نسمة بحلول عام 2050 (ارتفاعًا من 9.4 مليون نسمة في عام 2017)، من المتوقع أن تتخطى أعمار أكثر من ثلاثة ملايين منهم 60 عامًا؛ ونتيجةً لذلك، من المنتظر أن يزيد الطلب بصورة كبيرة على خدمات المختبرات السريرية مثل فحوص الدم وتحليل العينات السريرية وتسلسل الحمض النووي.
ومن المتوقع أن يحقق معرض ومؤتمر ميدلاب، الذي تنظّمه إنفورما إكزيبيشنز - هيلث كير على مدار أربعة أيام من 4 إلى 7 فبراير 2019 بمركز دبي التجاري العالمي، معاملات تتجاوز قيمتها 166 مليون دولار أمريكي، وهو إجمالي ما حققته دورة العام الماضي، مع تزايد عدد ممارسي الرعاية الصحية الذين يعتمدون الآن على الفحوص المخبرية السريرية قبل اتخاذ قرار سريري بشأن تشخيص الأمراض وعلاجها.
وفي دورة هذا العام، لا يزال تمثيل الدول في ميدلاب قويًا، في ظل وجود 15 جناحًا وطنيًا في المعرض تشمل ثلاثة أجنحة وطنية جديدة - بلجيكا وتركيا وروسيا - وجناح إقليمي واحد، برلين. ومن خلال إبراز أهمية مجال خدمات المختبرات الطبية في المنطقة، يتزايد حجم العديد من الأجنحة الوطنية في ميدلاب مثل الجناح النمساوي الذي سينمو بنسبة 15% وكذلك الجناحين الأمريكي والألماني، حيث سينمو كل واحدٍ منهما بنسبة 12%.
وحسبما ورد في التقرير الصادر عن كوليرز إنترناشيونال وهو جزء من سلسلة تقارير سوق ميدلاب، كان هناك تحول مستمر في ميزان القوى من مقدّمي الخدمات إلى شركات تأمين الرعاية الصحية ومن المختبرات في المستشفيات إلى المختبرات المستقلة؛ ما يوفّر تقنيات أفضل أداءً وأعلى تقدمًا إلى جانب تكلفة أقل للفحوص بسبب وفورات الحجم.
وتعليقاً على مشاركته في ميدلاب 2019، قال عبد الحميد العبيسي، الرئيس التنفيذي للمختبر المرجعي الوطني بأبوظبي: "واصل المختبر المرجعي الوطني عمله الدؤوب طوال عام 2018 لتوسيع قدراتنا المتخصّصة في الفحوص، وسنعود إلى دورة 2019 من ميدلاب لزيادة الوعي بين المتخصّصين في المختبرات ومقدّمي الرعاية الصحية في المنطقة بالفحوص التشخيصية العالية الجودة التي تتوفّر الآن في البلاد من خلال فروع المختبر المرجعي الوطني. وباعتباره حدثًا رئيسيًا يسلّط الضوء على قدرات دولة الإمارات في مجال المختبرات الطبية، لا يزال ميدلاب يمثّل المنصة الملائمة لنا لمشاركة أفضل الممارسات الدولية وأحدث ابتكاراتنا في الفحوص المخبرية السريرية".
وإلى جانب المعرض، يقدّم مؤتمر ميدلاب أيضًا منصة مهمة للتبادل العلمي من خلال الجمع بين أكثر من 6,700 موفد للاستماع إلى آراء أكثر من 110 متحدثين من 20 دولة سعيًا إلى توفير أساليب مخبرية طبية متطوّرة لتحسين الحالة الصحية.
وستشهد دورة 2019 من المؤتمر تقديم ثلاثة مسارات جديدة لأول مرة تشمل الذكاء الاصطناعي، وعلم أمراض المناعة، وعلم الوراثة الخلوية والتلقيح الصناعي، وبذلك يصل العدد الإجمالي للمؤتمرات المتعددة التخصّصات والمعتمدة للتعليم الطبي المستمر إلى 11 مؤتمرًا.
وفي هذا الإطار، قال ريجوي بيناسيرادا، مدير مؤتمر ميدلاب: "بصفتنا المؤتمر الوحيد المتعدد التخصّصات والمعتمد للتعليم الطبي المستمر في المنطقة، نعمل بشكلٍ وثيق مع المؤسسات الداعمة لدينا والتي تشمل معهد المعايير السريرية والمخبرية وكلية علماء الأمراض الأمريكيين والجمعية السعودية للكيمياء السريرية ومجلس الجودة السعودي والجمعية السعودية لأمراض الدم وجمعية مهندسي الكهرباء والإلكترونيات والجمعية الدولية لنقل الدم، لتقديم مجموعة مختارة من الجلسات المتعددة التخصّصات في الطب المخبري بهدف مساعدة المتخصّصين في المختبرات الطبية على تحسين مهاراتهم وتحسين الرعاية المقدّمة في المنطقة".
وعلى هامش مسارات مؤتمر الطب المخبري، ستنعقد الورشة المتقدمة لرؤساء المختبرات، وهي مناقشة حصرية بموجب دعوات فقط حول تحديات إدارة المختبرات السريرية تهدف إلى تعزيز سبل التعاون والتنسيق بين قادة المنطقة في مجال المختبرات لرفع مستوى الخدمات المقدمة إلى المرضى.
وسيستضيف ميدلاب أيضاً منطقة الملصقات العلمية التي ستسلّط الضوء على آخر الأبحاث من أخصائيي المختبرات في شتى أنحاء العالم وتقدّم مساحة للموفدين إلى ميدلاب للتلاقي ومناقشة نتائج آخر البحوث والتطورات في المجال. وعلاوةً على ذلك، ستتولى أيضًا شركات مخبرية وتشخيصية وشركات مصنّعة رائدة استضافة عدد من ورش العمل في أرض المعرض والتي ستقدّم الخبرة الفنية حول أحدث أساليب الفحص والنتائج والتقنيات، وستكون العديد من ورش العمل هذه معتمدة للتعليم الطبي المستمر.
جدير بالذكر أن معرض ومؤتمر ميدلاب يحظى بدعم رسمي من وزارة الصحة ووقاية المجتمع في دولة الإمارات، وحكومة دبي، وهيئة الصحة بدبي، وهيئة الصحة بأبوظبي، وسلطة مدينة دبي الطبية.
