University of Turku collaborates with the International Maritime Consortium

Led by Zaitoun Green Shipping



Both parties cooperates taking into consideration ship efficiency, environmental protection whilst prioritizing technological capabilities, safe operations and profit commitment




UAE-Dubai- 13th of January 2019: Dubai based Zaitoun Green Shipping L.L.C has recently announced that the University of Turku has joined the international maritime consortium as the selected academic partner. The university will further leverage the consortium with the needed expertise and academic research aiming to reduce the investment risks in container ships and creating significant business models.

The international consortium, led by Zaitoun Green Shipping, seeks to collaborate on radically improving performance of container ships and forming a new business model for this market. The consortium consists of the top international industry key players such as MacGregor, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Equipment, Wärtsilä, Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd, Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), WIN GD, CargoTech and Carinafour.

Identifying new concept for container ships business

Since Zaitoun Green Shipping’s mission is to protect the marine environment and drive business growth with innovative and smart approaches, the partnership is committed to add the real academic valued needed for the consortium to drive new business models that will lower the investment risk and ensure ecological and profitable operations. Eng.Mohammed Zaitoun, President and CEO of Zaitoun Green Shipping explained, “I have witnessed the current industry problems long time back. That’swhy I thought about developing an international maritime consortium of the main industry key players. Our strategic approach can challenge the current modes of operation and significantly increase ships’ economic efficiency while taking into consideration the environmental requirements.”

A distinctive academic role to leverage the consortium

The role of the University of Turku in the consortium is to study different finance and business model options in both the investment and operational phases. Special emphasis is placed on possibilities in value creation by increasing economic and ecological efficiency. Turku School of Economics leads the project at the University of Turku. Commenting on the partnership, Antti Saurama, Director of Corporate Research Co-operation, Turku School of Economics emphasized, “We are very pleased to be working with the leading international corporations in the field and to participate in creating future solutions for container ships which take into consideration both economic efficiency and ecological aspects.”

He added, “The need for new solutions is evident. The global industry has reported a lack of efficiency and poor economic results. At the same time, the decisions of the International Maritime Organization demand emission reductions and implementing new shipping technologies. Ship investments, which have a life cycle of approximately 25 years, have to be planned carefully.”



Zaitoun concluded, “We welcome all the interested parties worldwide to work with us through our collaborative consortium seeking together for a smarter and greener shipping future. One of our main goals is to establish a competitive fleet of efficient and economical vessels that will ensure better profitability.”

يتعاون الطرفان لتطوير كفاءة السفن وحماية البيئة مع إعطاء الأولوية للقدرات التكنولوجية والعمليات الآمنة والالتزام بتحقيق الأرباح


الإمارات العربية المتحدة - دبي - 13 يناير 2019: أعلنت شركة زيتون جرين شيبينغ ، ومقرها دبي، مؤخراً عن انضمام جامعة توركو إلى التحالف البحري الدولي كشريك أكاديمي. وستقوم الجامعة بإمداد التحالف البحري بالخبرات اللازمة والأبحاث الأكاديمية التي تهدف إلى تقليل مخاطر الاستثمار في سفن الحاويات وإنشاء نماذج أعمال متميزة. ويسعى التحالف البحري الدولي، بقيادة شركة زيتون جرين شيبينغ، إلى التعاون في تحسين أداء سفن الحاويات بشكل جذري وتصميم سفن صديقة للبيئة طبقاً لما تسعى له المنظمة البحرية الدولية. ويتكون التحالف من كبار المؤسسات البحرية العالمية، مثل ماكجريجور، ميتسوبيشي للصناعات الثقيلة والمعدات والآلات، وورتسيلا، فينترتور للغاز والديزل المحدودة، غازي ترانسبورت آند تيكنيجاز (جي تي تي)، إضافة إلى وين جي دي وكارغو تيك وكارنفور.

تحديد مفهوم جديد لأعمال سفن الحاويات

وباعتبار أن المهمة الأساس لشركة زيتون جرين شيبينغ كونها تقود البحري العالمي هي حماية البيئة البحرية ودفع نمو الأعمال البحرية من خلال اتباع أساليب مبتكرة وذكية، تلتزم الشركة بتوفير القيمة المضافة للكفاءات الأكاديمية التي يحتاجها التحالف البحري الدولي لطرح نماذج أعمال جديدة تقلل من مخاطر الاستثمار وتضمن التوافق مع حماية البيئة وتشغيل عمليات مربحة. وفي هذا السياق أوضح المهندس محمد زيتون، رئيس التحالف البحري الدولي ومؤسس شركة زيتون جرين شيبينغ، قائلاً: "لقد شهِدت العديد من التحديات التي تواجه الصناعة البحرية منذ وقت طويل، من أجل ذلك فكرت في تطوير تحالف بحري دولي يضم أهم اللاعبين الرئيسين في الصناعة الملاحية. وسيتمكن منهجنا الاستراتيجي الجديد من تحدي أساليب التشغيل التقليدية، ليحقق زيادة الكفاءة الاقتصادية للسفن بشكل كبير، مع مراعاة المتطلبات البيئية".

وأضاف زيتون: "ستعمل شراكتنا مع جامعة توركو على تعزيز الأفكار الإبداعية ونشر البحوث المتعمقة، التي من شأنها تمكين الاقتصاد البحري المستدام، وسوف يدعم هذا التعاون الفعال أعضاء التحالف البحري الحاليين من الرواد ذوي المهارات العالية الذين يشكلون مستقبل الصناعة البحرية بابتكاراتهم، وهذا هو ما نحتاج إليه لسد النقص الذي تعاني منه الصناعة البحرية".

تعزيز التحالف البحري الدولي بالقدرات الأكاديمية

سيتمثل دور جامعة توركو في التحالف البحري الدولي في دراسة خيارات التمويل والأعمال التجارية المختلفة في كل من مرحلتي الاستثمار والتشغيل. وسيتم التركيز بشكل خاص على إمكانات خلق القيمة والعائد للاستثمارات الموجهة لبناء وتشغيل ناقلات الحاويات عن طريق زيادة الكفاءة الاقتصادية والبيئية، وستقود كلية الاقتصاد في جامعة توركو هذا المشروع. وفي معرض تعليقه على الشراكة، أكد أنتي سوراما، مدير التعاون البحثي المشترك في كلية توركو للاقتصاد: "نحن سعداء للغاية بالعمل مع الشركات الدولية الرائدة في مجال الملاحة الدولية، والمشاركة في العمل على إيجاد حلول مستقبلية لتطوير سفن الحاويات، تلك التي تراعي رفع الكفاءة الاقتصادية ومراعاة الاعتبارات البيئية".

وأضاف سوراما: "من الواضح أن الحاجة ملحّة لتوفير حلول جديدة، وقد وجهت الصناعة البحرية العالمية نداء للمطالبة بالمساعدة في التغلب على انخفاض مستوى الكفاءة وضعف النتائج الاقتصادية لقطاع الشحن البحري. في الوقت نفسه الذي يواجه فيه القطاع ضغوطاً كبيرة ناتجة عن قرارات المنظمة البحرية الدولية لخفض الانبعاثات وتبني تكنولوجيات شحن جديدة، وتجاه ذلك يجب التخطيط بعناية للاستثمارات المخصصة لبناء وتطوير السفن، بحيث تضمن أن يدوم عمرها التشغيلي 25 عاماً أو أكثر".

واختتم زيتون حديثه قائلاً: "في التحالف البحري الدولي نرحب بجميع الجهات المهتمة من جميع أنحاء العالم للعمل معنا، من أجل مستقبل لقطاع الشحن البحري أفضل ذكاءً في تبني التكنولوجيا وأكثر صداقة للبيئة، ويتمثل أحد أهم أهدافنا الرئيسة؛ إنشاء أسطول تنافسي من السفن عالية الكفاءة التشغيلية والاقتصادية لتضمن تحقيق أرباح أفضل لقطاع الشحن البحري".
