Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 25, 2018: Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), Standard Chartered Bank and General Electric closed a $600 million financing agreement that funded an ambitious power project implemented across Iraq.
Comprising of two phases, the Government of Iraq’s ‘Power up Plan’ was a major part of the country’s ongoing rebuilding and modernisation plans, delivering and securing more than 2 gigawatts (GW) of new power, while ensuring the continuity of up to 6.7 GW to Iraq's grid, supplying much-need electricity to homes and businesses nationwide.
The financing arrangement is the largest bespoke Letter of Credit (LC) confirmation and discounting transaction of its kind in the region.
TBI was established in July 2003 with the aim of helping the reconstruction of Iraq by facilitating international trade and continues to be at the forefront of large-scale infrastructure developments across the country. The institution’s financial network and expertise play a significant role in sourcing and securing funding for projects that will benefit the Iraqi people for generations to come.

The agreement further underscores the crucial financial history and positive relationship that exists among the three institutions.

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 25 نوفمبر 2018: أبرم المصرف العراقي للتجارة وبنك ستاندرد تشارترد وشركة جنرال إلكتريك اتفاقية تمويل بقيمة 600 مليون دولار، ساعدت هذه الاتفاقية على توفير التمويل لعدة مشاريع في مجال الكهرباء تم تنفيذها في مختلف أنحاء العراق. فقد مثلت خطة الحكومة العراقية لزيادة توليد الكهرباء المسماة (Power up Plan)، والمكونة من مرحلتين، جزءً رئيسياً من الخطط الجارية لإعادة إعمار البلاد وتحديث البنية التحتية، بتوفير وتسخير طاقة إنتاجية جديدة تزيد عن 2 جيجاواط من الكهرباء، مع ضمان استمرارية تزويد شبكة الكهرباء العراقية بـ 6.7 جيجاواط أخرى، مما يؤمن الطاقة الكهربائية الضرورية للمنازل ومؤسسات الأعمال. وتعتبر اتفاقية التمويل هذه أكبر كتاب اعتماد مخصص وتوفير اكبر خصم من نوعه في المنطقة.
تأسس البنك العراقي للتجارة في شهر يوليو من عام 2003 بغرض المساعدة في إعادة إعمار العراق من خلال تسهيل معاملات التجارة الدولية وما زال يحتل مركز الصدارة في مشاريع تطوير البنى التحية الكبيرة على مستوى البلاد. وتلعب شبكة التمويل والخبرات التي يتمتع بها المصرف دوراً بالغ الأهمية في تحصيل وضمان التمويل للمشاريع التي ستعود بالنفع على الشعب العراقي لأجيال عدة قادمة.
وفي تعليقه على الحدث، قال السيد فيصل الهيمص رئيس المصرف العراقي للتجارة ورئيس مجلس إدارته: "إن التمويل المقدم في إطار هذه الصفقة الأخيرة مع شركائنا في جنرال إلكتريك وبنك ستاندرد تشارترد سيكون له دور كبير في خلق مستقبل أكثر إشراقاً للشعب العراقي. فهذه الشبكة الكهربائية بما تتميز به من كفاءة وتطور وأمان وموثوقية تمثل الأساس الذي ستبنى عليه مشاريع التطوير والازدهار في العراق على المدى الطويل. وسيعمل المصرف العراقي للتجارة بتعاون وثيق مع شركائنا على ضمان مساعدة الاتفاقيات التي تتضمنها مذكرة التفاهم هذه في دفع عجلة هذا المشروع الحيوي قدماً بما يدعم رفاهية الناس والمجمعات ودوائر الأعمال في أنحاء العراق المختلفة."
