Atomenergomash and GE to supply turbine hall equipment for El Dabaa nuclear power station in Egypt

Cairo on October 10th 2018

AAEM LLC (a joint venture of Atomenergomash JSC and General Electric) has entered into the contract with DEZ JSC (acting on behalf of Atomstroyexport JSC, a general contractor for the El Dabaa project) to supply turbine hall equipment for Units 1 to 4 of the El Dabaa nuclear power station in Egypt. Under the contract the company will be responsible for designing, manufacturing and supplying four sets of steam turbines, condensers, generators and select auxiliary equipment, and for technical field advisory services during erection and commissioning of supplied equipment at the NPP site. Over 50% of the equipment will be manufactured in Russia.

The El Dabaa nuclear power plant will comprise ARABELLE™ half-speed steam turbines and GIGATOP™ 4-pole generators manufactured by General Electric. Ilya Vergizaev, General Director of AAEM, said: "I am positive that eleven-year long cooperation of Atomenergomash Engineering Division and GE Power in developing the joint venture's high-tech competencies both in the field of engineering nuclear turbine island equipment and in development of advanced production technologies, will provide a principled framework for successful implementation of this project."

"As Egypt works to diversify its energy production and to support its growing economy, the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, equipped with GE Power’s ARABELLE technology, will help Egypt deliver on their ambitious goals," said Andreas Lusch, CEO of GE’s Steam Power.

AAEM joint venture was established in 2007 to equip the conventional islands of NPPs of Russian design. The joint venture has combined extensive production capabilities and in-depth VVER expertise of Atomenergomash with high performance of GE equipment building based on the ARABELLE™ half-speed technology and the company's proven track record in nuclear power engineering.

El Dabaa power plant is constructed under the intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement for construction and operation of the nuclear power plant in the Arab Republic of Egypt between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, dated November 19, 2015. The Project will include four units equipped with VVER 1200 reactors. The El Dabaa power plant is located in the Matrouh region on the Mediterranean coast, 6 km from the town of El Dabaa.
