Global Chemistry Leader celebrates 20th anniversary of PU Systems House in Egypt
18 September 2018 – Cairo, Egypt – Dow Chemical is participating at the first ever Big 5 Construct exhibition in Egypt, held from 18-21 September in Cairo. During the Show, Dow experts will be on hand to showcase the Company’s industry leading portfolio of high-performance technologies that address a wide range of applications for construction, from building insulation and interior/exterior coatings to waterproofing systems and fire-safety solutions.
Dow established its operations in Egypt in the late 90’s by setting up the first local polyurethane Systems House in the 10th of Ramadan City, in Greater Cairo. Polyurethane represents a key component of the Egyptian industrial sector, which includes the production of refrigerators, heaters, cars, thermal roof insulation, furniture, shoes and thermally insulated pipes among others. Dow solutions for thermal insulation have also been utilized in a number of high-profile projects in Egypt such as the New Egyptian Museum and the Egyptian Parliament building renovations.

Recently, the Dow Systems House was selected by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to test a newly designed machine aimed at finding more cost-effective, environmentally friendly PU production solutions. The results indicated the possibility of replacing the use of ozone-depleting hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) as blowing agents for PU production.
