AUC TO DISCUSS EFFECT OF EU GLOBAL STRATEGY ON MIDDLE EAST

WHAT

A lecture, “What Does the EU Global Strategy Mean for the Middle East?” organized by the Middle East Studies Center at the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at The American University in Cairo (AUC). The lecture is part of an effort to promote the dialogue between the academic scholars, policy professionals in Egypt and the European policy makers. In light of the global strategy adopted by the EU in June 2016, the lecture will explain the willingness of the EU to increase the resilience of states and societies all over the world but particularly in neighboring regions; the building of cooperative regional orders; and an EU external action guided by “principled pragmatism.” The lecture will also discuss which specific steps have been taken towards translating this vision into specific priorities and whether ongoing events in the MENA region confirm the relevance of the vision. The lecture is followed by a Q&A session.
