AUC’S SCHOOL OF BUSINESS IS FIRST IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA TO JOIN THE CEMS GLOBAL ALLIANCE IN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION

November 15, 2017, Cairo – The School of Business at The American University in Cairo (AUC) is the first business school in the Middle East and Africa to join the CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education. AUC joins a global network of 30 leading business schools, including The London School of Economics and Political Science and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands, multinational corporations and social enterprises committed to educating future generations of international business leaders and global citizens through the top ranked CEMS Master’s in International Management (MiM).

Roland Siegers, executive director of CEMS, said, “we are delighted to welcome AUC’s School of Business on board as a CEMS Academic Member. The new partnership means that we are now present on all continents and AUC is our first partner in both the Arab World and Africa; which is hugely significant when it comes to promoting dialogue across all cultures.”

Nizar Becheikh Interim dean of the School of Business at AUC, said, “We are truly delighted by this new partnership with CEMS, an organization with which we share common educational goals and common values.” Through this partnership the top-ranked CEMS MiM will be offered in AUC’s School of Business, “providing students at AUC with another opportunity to pursue a world-class academic program that is in line with the School’s liberal-arts, experiential-learning and ‘glocalized’ approach to business education.”

Becheikh also said that this partnership will concurrently expand CEMS’s footprint to the Middle East and Africa, and offer CEMS global students a unique and exciting transformational immersion experience in Egypt. “It is a genuine win-win partnership that we are very excited about. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of students in 2019”, he added.

Sherine Gad El Mawla, director of internationalization and partnerships at AUC’s School of Business said that “Joining CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education and jointly offering the CEMS MiM degree is a great addition to the School’s internationalization efforts on the global map.”

CEMS MiM is a one-year, pre-experience program delivered by CEMS Academic and Corporate members that offers students the opportunity to be educated in a truly multicultural and boundless classroom. Students enrolled in the program study for one semester at their home university, with a mandatory study abroad in a different CEMS member school. In addition to completing a home degree, graduation from CEMS also requires students to have a business project, a compulsory international internship and a very good command of two languages in addition to the student’s mother tongue.

The CEMS MiM is ranked among the top 10 programs in both the Financial Times and Economist Masters in Management rankings. Its strength stems from a rigorous academic curriculum as well as a focus on practical business skills, language proficiency and early international experiences. Graduates of the CEMS MiM join an elite community of over 12,000 distinguished alumni representing 91 nationalities and working in over 75 countries.

“AUC’s School of Business prides itself on graduating global leaders who are able to implement and adapt ideal practices to their workplace contexts,” said Hakim Meshreki, assistant professor of marketing at the School. “Our CEMS MiM academic program is designed to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills and hands-on experiences on the challenges and solutions for conducting business in the Middle East within an environment that embraces cultural diversity and collegiality, hence preparing young leaders to confront future challenges. This is supported by state-of-the-art courses taught by distinguished faculty and modern classroom technologies that allow for an exceptional academic experience.”
