Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University honors winners of ‘Reading Knights’ Competition


 

Competitors are inspiring ambassadors for raising awareness on importance of reading in development of societies


UAE, July 9, 2017- Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) recognized the winners of its Smart Book Club’s latest ‘Reading Knights’ Competition for their active role in promoting reading during a special ceremony held at its campus in Dubai Academic City. The competition was originally launched in honor of the proclamation of 2016 as the ‘Year of Reading’ by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

The contest aims to heighten awareness on the importance of reading and knowledge enrichment, develop the habit of self-learning, enhance analytical and critical thinking, and encourage knowledge sharing among readers of different cultural and cognitive backgrounds. Participants are invited to submit objective Arabic or English reviews of famous literary works.

The second round saw strong competition, with 566 candidates aged between 18 and 65 years from different nationalities vying for the ‘Best Review’ of ‘Sharjah Air Station: Between East and West’ and ‘Sarad El Zat,’ two books written by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. This year’s champion under the ‘Arabic’ category was Ahmed Mubarak Salem (Bahrain) with 96.4 points, followed by Ruqaia Ashkanani (1st runner up, UAE) with 93.1 and Alia Mutref (2nd runner up, UAE) with 89.4.  Shabbir Jabir (India) bested the ‘English’ category with an average of 62.5 points.

Dr. Mansour Al-Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, honored the new Reading Knights for their high level of work and emphasized the importance of continuously developing knowledge through self- and distance learning, which he referred to as pillars for comprehensive and sustainable development.

Al-Awar said: “Reading is an effective tool for gaining knowledge that leads to the development of individual capabilities. It contributes to the stimulation of intellectual abilities, the expansion of cognitive awareness, and the upgrading of analytical skills. We are going forward with this initiative to support national efforts to make the UAE a global capital of content, culture and knowledge. We are committed to highlighting its role as a major contributor to encouraging young generations to read and make reading a part of their daily lifestyle. This will allow them to play prominent roles in building a knowledge-based society, keeping abreast of technology and facing the challenges of the 21st century.”

The ‘Reading Knights’ Competition reflects the vision of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University to adopt a lifelong learning approach and drive excellence in knowledge exchange and enrichment by advancing learning and scientific research – two pursuits vital to development and prosperity which are key to making the UAE one of the most advanced countries in the world.

The upcoming third round of the competition will accept objective analyses of the book ‘Reflections on Happiness and Positivity’ written by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai which can be submitted in Arabic or English. دور كبير للمتسابقين كسفراء ملهمين للتوعية بأهمية القراءة في تطور المجتمعات


الإمارات، 9 يوليو2017  - احتفت "جامعة حمدان بن محمد الذكية" بالفائزين في المرحلة الثانية من مسابقة "فرسان القراءة" المنظوية تحت مظلة "نادي الكتاب الذكي"، والتي ابتكرتها الجامعة العام الماضي تماشياً مع توجيهات صاحب السمو الشيخ خليفة بن زايد آل نهيان، رئيس الدولة "حفظه الله" بإعلان 2016 "عام القراءة". وجاء ذلك خلال حفل توزيع الجوائز للمتسابقين باعتبارهم سفراء فعالين في مجال القراءة والذي أقيم مؤخراً في حرم الجامعة في مدينة دبي الأكاديمية.

وتتلخص الأهداف الرئيسية للمسابقة في زيادة الوعي بأهمية القراءة وإثراء المعرفة، وكيفية تطوير التعليم الذاتي، وتحسين القدرة على التفكير التحليلي والنقد البناء، وتسهيل نشر ونقل وتبادل المعرفة بين القراء من مختلف الخلفيات الثقافية، بالإضافة إلى مواجهة المشاركون تحدياً لإعداد أفضل تحليل موضوعي للأعمال الأدبية المعروفة سواء باللغة العربية أو الإنجليزية.

وشهدت الدورة الثانية منافسة قوية بمشاركة 566 مرشح، ترواحت أعمارهم ما بين الـ18 والـ65 من جنسيات مختلفة للتنافس على إعداد "أفضل مُلخص" لكتابي "محطة الشارقة الجوية: بين الشرق والغرب" و"سرد الذات" لصاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي، حاكم الشارقة. وسجلت الجولة الأخيرة فوز كل من أحمد مبارك سالم من مملكة البحرين، والذي حاز على المركز الأول بـ 96.4 نقاط؛ ورقية أشكاني وعلياء مترف من دولة الإمارات اللتان حصدتا المركز الثاني والثالث بـ 93.1 نقطة و89.4 نقطة على التوالي؛ ضمن فئة الكاتب العربي، بينما فاز شابير جابر من الهند عن فئة الكاتب الإنجليزي بمجموع 62.5 نقطة.

وقام الدكتور منصور العور، رئيس "جامعة حمدان بن محمد الذكية" بتكريم "فرسان القراءة" الجدد مثنياً على ما قدموه من أعمال عالية المستوى، ومشدّداً على أهمية مواصلة مسيرة المعرفة من خلال الاعتماد على التعلم الذاتي والتعلم عن بعد، كونها ركناً أساسياً من أركان التنمية الشاملة والمستدامة.

وقال العور: "القراءة هي المدخل إلى كنز المعرفة الذي يؤدي إلى تطور الإمكانات الفردية للقارئ، لا سيّما وأنها تساهم في تحفيز القدرات الذهنية وتوسيع المدارك المعرفية والارتقاء بالمهارات التحليلية. ومن هنا جاء حرصنا على استمرار هذه المبادرة كخطوة داعمة للجهود الوطنية الرامية إلى جعل دولة الإمارات عاصمة عالمية للمحتوى والثقافة والمعرفة، إضافة إلى أهميتها كمساهم رئيسي في تعزيز حب القراءة في نفوس الأجيال الشابة ودفعهم للعب دور بارز في بناء مجتمع قائم على المعرفة والإدراك ومواكبة عصر التكنولوجيا والتحديات التي يفرضها القرن الحادي والعشرين."

وأضاف العور: "سررنا بالمستوى الاحترافي للمنافسين في الجولة الثانية لمسابقة "فرسان القراءة"، ونفتخر بدورهم في ترسيخ القراءة كعادة مجتمعية، والعمل على نشر أهمية دور القراءة في التنمية والتطور وغرس قيم الهوية الوطنية، ونظراً لردود الأفعال الإيجابية ستحرص جامعة "حمدان بن محمد الذكية" على تقديم مبادرات مبتكرة لجعل القراءة وسيلة تحقق التميز الشخصي والمهني والوطني."

وتعكس مسابقة "فرسان القراءة" رؤية جامعة "حمدان بن محمد الذكية" في تبني نهج التعلم مدى الحياة ودفع عجلة التميز نحو تبادل وإثراء المعرفة من خلال السير قدماً في درب التعلم والبحث العلمي للإسهام في دفع عجلة النهضة والتطور والنماء، وصولاً بالدولة إلى مصاف الأمم الأكثر تقدماً في العالم.
