CREATIVE WRITER LEILA ABOULELA TO SPEAK AT AUC


WHAT
Public lecture, “Through the Eyes of Others: Developing Empathy by Reading Fiction,” organized by the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at The American University in Cairo.

WHO
Leila Aboulela,  a Sudanese-Egyptian novelist whose work, written in English, has received critical acclaim for its distinctive exploration of identity, migration and Islamic spirituality. Early in her career, Aboulela won the Caine Prize for African Writing. She is the author of four novels, The Kindness of EnemiesThe Translator, a New York Times 100 Notable Books of the Year, Minaret and Lyrics Alley, fiction winner of the Scottish Book Awards. Her collection of short stories, Coloured Lights was shortlisted for the MacMillan Silver PEN Award and several of her plays were broadcast by BBC Radio. Aboulela's work has been translated into 15 languages including Arabic.
