- Batelco Bahrain and Ericsson announce agreement to collaborate on the development of 5G
- Collaboration allows Batelco and Ericsson to evaluate performance and applicability of potential 5G key technology components to implement IoT use cases

Batelco Bahrain and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) have announced an MoU to join forces and collaborate on the development of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) use cases. The agreement will help drive innovation and early IoT applications on 5G mobile network technology based on the market requirements in Bahrain.
The primary objective of the collaboration is to develop a joint understanding of 5G use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios, as well as to evaluate performance and applicability of potential 5G key technology components.
Under the new agreement, Batelco Bahrain and Ericsson will jointly recognize and develop proof of concepts for feasible use cases to meet the needs of industries in Bahrain. The two companies will also collaborate on corresponding vertical use cases and will implement narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) for massive machine-type communication while advancing cloud architecture to enable 5G and NB-IoT technologies. The aim is to trial 5G capable radio technology and 5G Plug-in software in the existing 4G networks.

Ericsson 5G Radio Prototypes are the first products designed to enable operators to conduct live field trials in their own networks. Ericsson enables operators to move beyond the 5G hype of lab-based speed tests and gain a greater understanding of the potential for 5G in their own network environments and markets.

Batelco Bahrain, an early adopter of LTE with commercial launch in December 2011, has been serving corporate and consumer markets through the delivery of advanced fixed and wireless telecommunications solutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and together with Ericsson, recently delivered LTE-Advanced and VoLTE.

أعلنت بتلكو البحرين وإريكسون (المدرجة في ناسداك باسم: ERIC) عن توقيع مذكرة تفاهم لتوحيد الجهود والتعاون على تطوير حالات استخدام شبكات الجيل الخامس وإنترنت الأشياء. ومن شأن هذا الاتفاق أن يساعد في دفع عجلة الابتكار والتطبيق المبكر لتكنولوجيا شبكات الجيل الخامس اعتماداً على متلطبات السوق في البحرين.
ويتمثل الهدف الرئيسي لهذا التعاون في تطوير تفهم مشترك في مجال حالات استخدام شبكات الجيل الخامس، والمتطلبات وسيناريوهات التطبيق، فضلاً عن تقييم الأداء وإمكانية تطبيق مكوّنات تكنولوجيا الجيل الخامس الرئيسية المحتملة.
ومن خلال هذا الاتفاق، ستعمل بتلكو البحرين وإريكسون على تحديد وتطوير إثباتات حالات الاستخدام الفعالة لتلبية متطلبات القطاعات المختلفة في البحرين. وستتعاون الشركتان أيضاً على حالات استخدام متطابقة وتطبيق إنترنت الأشياء ضيق النطاق (NB-IoT) للاتصالات الآلية الضخمة، مع تطوير البنية السحابية لتمكين تكنولوجيات الجيل الخامس وإنترنت الأشياء ضيق النطاق والهدف هو تجربة تكنولوجيا الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية وبرمجيات إضافات الجيل الخامس في شبكات الجيل الرابع المتوفرة حالياً.
وقالت المدير التنفيذي لشركة بتلكو البحرين، المهندسة منى الهاشمي: "إن إيجاد الفرص الجديدة من خلال التطوير المستمر لمنصاتنا وتوفير تكنولوجيات فريدة من نوعها، هو جزء من التزامنا الثابت تجاه السكان والقطاعات المختلفة في البحرين. ومن خلال هذا التعاون مع إريكسون، نهدف إلى أخذ خطوات متقدمة نحو مستقبل الأجهزة المتصلة شبكياً، بوصفنا اسم رائد في قطاع التكنولوجيا يمكّن التغيير في قطاعات البحرين ومجتمعها".
وتعتبر أنماط الجيل الخامس اللاسلكية من إريكسون المنتجات الأولى المصممة لتمكين مشغلي الخدمات من تنفيذ تجارب ميدانية مباشرة على شبكاتهم. وتزوّد إريكسون مشغلي الخدمات بإمكانية الارتقاء لما يفوق اختبارات الجيل الخامس المتعمدة على المختبرات، لبناء تفهم أفضل تجاه الإمكانيات التي تقدمها شبكات الجيل الخامس في شبكاتهم وأسواقهم.
وقالت رافية ابراهيم، رئيس إريكسون في الشرق الأوسط وشرق أفريقيا: "في ظل توسع تكنولوجيا الجيل الخامس وتطورها خلال السنوات القادمة، فإنه من الحتمي لروّاد القطاعات التعاون وبناء الأسس التي تمكّن هذا التغيير. ونحن سعداء بتقديم تكنولوجيات فريدة من نوعها مع بتلكو في البحرين، لتمكين الناس، وقطاعات الأعمال، والمجتمع، من خلال إعادة تعريف العلاقة بين القطاعات، وبناء بنية تحتية محورية تتماشى مع رؤيتنا المشتركة في الوصول إلى المجتمع المتصّل شبكياً".
