AUC-AUB TO DISCUSS RESPONSIBILITIES OF UNIVERSITIES TO THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AT A SYMPOSIUM


WHAT

A symposium, “Universities and their Neighborhoods: An AUC-AUB Conversation,” highlighting the responsibilities of universities to their local communities. The aim of the event is to raise awareness in Egypt about urban universities and their roles in their neighborhoods and to hold focused discussions on cases of The American University in Cairo (AUC) and The American University of Beirut (AUB) and to recommend future steps for Tahrir Square, New Cairo and Ras Beirut. The event is a joint effort between AUC, AUB and the Ford Foundation.

WHO

Keynote speaker is Hilary Pennington, vice president of the Ford Foundation’s Education, Creativity and Free Expression program. Accompanied by a panel of local Cairo experts and officials, Pennington will reflect on institutions and their relationship to the city and community around them.
