All-female team of Emirati students from Zayed University grabs top prize at Business for Better 2014

• Shamma Alfahim and Sumaia Alharthi’s business plan of Multi-Gym facility for pregnant and elderly women wins AED 90,000 worth of scholarship
• Teams from Manipal University and Abu Dhabi University stood second and third place respectively
• 2014 edition introduces three new categories--‘Most Innovative Idea,’ ‘Most Socially Responsible Business’ and ‘Best Presentation Skills’

]UAE, June 3, 2014[ – An all-female team of Emirati students from Zayed University in Abu Dhabi won top honors at this year’s Business for Better competition for their business concept of a Multi-Gym facility for pregnant and elderly women. The winning team, comprising of Shamma Alfahim and Sumaia Alharthi took home AED 45,000 worth of scholarships each. The competition, which is organized by Western Union, a leader in global payment services, and Al Ansari Exchange, a UAE-based foreign exchange and worldwide money transfer company, held the awards ceremony recently at the Address Hotel, Dubai Marina. The winners were determined after 13 shortlisted teams that represented various reputed universities from the UAE, presented their business concepts to a panel of judges earlier in the day.

The 13 student teams made detailed presentations of their plans for sustainable business. Judges reviewed the presentations based on the criteria of ‘Originality of the Idea,’ ‘Business Concept and Description,’ ‘Proposed Implementation and Methodology,’ and ‘Financial Planning and Corresponding Budgets.’ Aside from Hatem Sleiman, Regional Vice President, Western Union, and Kamal Asif, Head of Business Development, Al Ansari Exchange, and the judging panel comprised of Imad Ghandour, Founder & Managing Director, CedarBridge Partners and Lisa Labonte, Founder & Chief Executive Office, Arab Youth Venture Foundation.

The winning team had successfully identified the need for a specialty gym with a focus on expectant mothers and elderly women. They presented their business concept effectively, covering all aspects of a thriving business such as the implementation of the idea, marketing plan, and a well thought off revenue model.”

Eight universities, including the American University in Sharjah, the American University in Dubai, Zayed University, Heriot Watt University, Abu Dhabi University, University of Sharjah, Amity University and Manipal University participated in the ‘Business for Better 2014’ competition. Beside the shortlisted teams and judges, the family and friends of the students, university representatives, and senior executives from Western Union and Al Ansari Exchange, also attended the award ceremony.

The winning concept was the business proposal for a multi-gym especially for pregnant and elderly women along with teenagers and children. The proposed gym offers fitness programs, including yoga, aerobics and weightlifting for expectant mothers in order to keep them fit and healthy all through their pregnancy. In addition, there are specially designed Wii game programs for children and teenagers suffering from obesity. Other special features include exercises for elderly ladies to help fight age-related ailments such as arthritis and osteoporosis, fish pedicure, and a child center.

Grabbing second place was the team composed of Ahmed Abdur Rahman, Abdul Jabbar and Muhammed Anas from Manipal University, who were awarded AED 30,000 each as the prize money. The Abu Dhabi University’s team of Israr Ahmed, Muhammed Abdulla and Waleed Ihsan was placed third in the competition and received AED 20,000 each. The judging panel also handed over special awards for ‘Most Innovative Idea’ to the team of Khaled Gaber and Ahmed Elsayed from the American University of Sharjah, ‘Most Socially Responsible Business’ to the team of Nikhil Kumar, Meghna Nambissan and Shyair Ganglani from American University in Dubai and ‘Best Presentation Skills’ to the team of Yasmeen Rwaished and Mohanad Rwaished from American University of Sharjah. Participating students were presented with Certificates of Participation and Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of their efforts.

]الإمارات، 3 يونيو، 2014[ - فاز فريق مكوّن من طالبتين إماراتيتين من "جامعة زايد - أبوظبي" بالمركز الأوّل في دورة العام من مسابقة "عمل أفضل لهدف أفضل"، وذلك بناءً على مشروعهما المتمثّل في صالة رياضية متعدّدة الإستخدامات للنساء الحوامل والمسنّات. وضمّ الفريق الفائز كل من شما الفهيم وسمية الحارثي، حيث حصلت كل منهما على منحة دراسية بقيمة 45,000 درهم إماراتي. وجاء ذلك خلال حفل تكريمي أقيم مؤخراً في فندق العنوان في "دبي مارينا". ويٌذكر أن مسابقة "عمل أفضل لهدف أفضل" تُنظَّم من قبل شركة "ويسترن يونيون" الرائدة في خدمات تحويل الأموال والمدفوعات العالمية، وشركة "الأنصاري للصرافة"، الشركة الإماراتية المتخصّصة في توفير خدمات صرف العملات الأجنبية والتحويلات المالية حول العالم. 

وكانت الفرق الطلابية الثلاثة عشر المتأهّلّة إلى الجولة النهائية قد واجهت لجنة التحكيم لتقديم نماذج شاملة عن خططهم في شكل عروض تقديمية. وبدورها، قامت اللجنة بتقييم العروض المقدّمة ومراجعتها إستناداً إلى المعايير التالية: أصالة الفكرة، وأهمية المفهوم الذي تستند إليه الفكرة، والتفاصيل، وكيفية التنفيذ والمنهجية المتّبعة، والتخطيط المالي للمشروع والميزانية المحدّدة له. 

وضمت لجنة التحكيم كل من حاتم سليمان، نائب الرئيس الإقليمي لشركة "ويسترن يونيون"؛ و كمال أصف، رئيس قسم تطوير الأعمال،"الأنصاري للصرافة"؛ وعماد غندور، المؤسّس والمدير الإداري لشركة "سيدر بريدج بارتنرز"؛ وليزا لابونت، المؤسّسة والرئيسة  التنفيذية لـ"مؤسسة تطوير مشاريع الشباب العرب".

وقال راشد علي الأنصاري، مدير عام شركة "الأنصاري للصرافة": "نحن فخورون جداً بالطلاب الذين شاركوا في مسابقة "عمل أفضل لهدف أفضل 2014" هذه السنة، والذين قدّموا مشاريع وأفكار تعكس مستوى الإبداع والإمكانات ومهارات التسويق العالية التي يتمتّعون بها. ومن جهتها، تؤكّد "الأنصاري للصرافة" إلتزامها المطرد تجاه دعم المسؤولية الإجتماعية وخدمة المجتمع المحلي من خلال التركيز على قطاع التعليم بإعتباره ركيزةً أساسيةً من ركائز التنمية الإجتماعية. وأتاحت دورة هذا العام من المسابقة فرصة العمل من جديد مع شركائنا لدى "ويسترن يونيون" والمساهمة الفاعلة في تقديم نصائح فعلية وعملية للطلبة المشاركين بشكل خاص والمساهمة في دفع عجلة قطاع التعليم والأعمال في الدولة بشكل عام. ونهنئ جميع الفائزين في المسابقة  ونتمنّى لهم كل التوفيق والنجاح في مسيرتهم العلمية وكذلك المهنية".

ومن جانبه، صرّح حاتم سليمان: "تميّز المشاركون بتقديم الأفكار النيرة وخطط العمل الناجحة، مما جعل مهمة لجنة التحكيم أكثر صعوبةً في اختيار المراكز الثلاثة الأولى. وأظهر الفريق الفائز بالجائزة الكبرى في عرض فكرته الرامية إلى تخصيص صالة رياضية للنساء الحوامل والمسنات، مستوًى عالٍ من الكفاءة والحرفية في تقديم خطة عمل متكاملة الجوانب والأهداف شملت آليات  التنفيذ والخطة التسويقية ونموذج مدروس عن العائدات. ونود في هذا السياق أن نؤكّد على التزام "ويسترن يونيون" في تقديم الدعم الكامل لقطاع التعليم إيماناً منها بأن التعليم هو من أضمن الطرق لتحقيق الاشتمال المالي. إن مسابقة "عمل أفضل لهدف أفضل" والتي قمنا بتنظيمها للسنة الثالثة على التوالي مع شريكنا الأنصاري للصرافة تؤكد التزامنا بدعم التعليم وتنمية العقول الشابة وخلق الفرص للجميع. ونحن نفخر بالإنجازات المبهرة التي حقّقها الطلاب في دولة الإمارات كما أشكر جميع الجامعات المشاركة وطلابها لمشاركتهم الحماسية في هذه المسابقة ونهنئ الفائزين على حسن العمل “.

ويمثّل المشروع الفائز في إقتراح خطة عمل لتطوير صالة رياضية متعدّدة الإستخدامات للنساء الحوامل والمسنّات والشابات والأطفال. وتقدّم الصالة الرياضية برامج لرفع مستوى اللياقة البدنية والصحية لدى الأمهات الحوامل من خلال اليوغا والتمارين الرياضية ورفع الأثقال وغيرها من الأنشطة الرياضية التي تساعد في الحفاظ على صحة السيدات ورشاقتهن طوال فترة الحمل. كما تقدّم الصالة الرياضية برامج رياضية قائمة على لعبة "وي سبورتس" ومصمّمة خصيصاً لمعالجة الشابات والأطفال الذين يعانون من السمنة المفرطة. ويوفّر المشروع أيضاً برامج رياضية مخصّصة للنساء المسنات لمساعدتهن في التغلّب على الأمراض المرتبطة بالتقدّم في السن مثل إلتهاب المفاصل وهشاشة العظام؛ بالإضافة إلى العديد من المزايا والعلاجات الأخرى بما في ذلك "مساج الأقدام بالأسماك المعالجة" ومركز للأطفال.

وجاء في المركز الثاني في المسابقة فريقٌ مؤلفٌ من أحمد عبدالرحمن وعبدالجبار ومحمد أنس من "جامعة مانيبال"، حيث فاز كل منهم بمنحة دراسية بقيمة 30,000 درهم. وكان المركز الثالث من نصيب فريق ضم كل من إسراء أحمد ومحمد عبدالله ووليد إحسان من "جامعة أبوظبي"، وتمثّلت الجائزة بمنحة دراسية قيمتها 20,000 درهم لكل منهم.

كما شهدت دورة العام من المسابقة إضافة ثلاث فئات جديدة، هي جائزة "أفضل فكرة مبتكرة" فاز بها خالد جابر وأحمد السيد من "الجامعة الأمريكية في الشارقة، وجائزة "أفضل مشروع مسؤولية إجتماعية" التي نالها  فريق مكوّن من نخيل كومار وميجنا نامبيسان وشيار جانجالي من "الجامعة الأمريكية في دبي"، وأخيراً جائزة "أفضل مهارات العرض والتقديم"من نصيب ياسمين رويشد ومهند رويشد من "الجامعة الأمريكية في الشارقة". وتم في نهاية الحفل التكريمي توزيع شهادات مشاركة وتقدير لجميع الطلاب المشاركين في المسابقة تثميناً لجهودهم وأفكارهم المبتكرة. 

ويُذكر أن ثماني جامعات شاركت في مسابقة "عمل أفضل لهدف أفضل 2014"، هي "الجامعة الأمريكية في الشارقة" و"الجامعة الأمريكية في دبي" و"جامعة زايد" و"جامعة الشارقة" و"جامعة هيريوت وات" و"جامعة أبوظبي" و"جامعة أميتي" و"جامعة مانيبال".
