Dubai, 24th February 2014 - Rose Ball ( Bal de La Rose), the exceptional event that brings together the elite and international high society
from all over the World is held benefiting the Princess Grace Foundation and is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Presided by TT.SS.HH. the Prince and Princess of Monaco and H.R.H. the Princess of Hanovre, Rose Ball will be held on Saturday March 29th
2014 in the prestigious Salle des Etoiles of Sporting Monte-Carlo.
A radiant spectacle in a fabulous decor, the Rose Ball has a different theme each year with artists and new trends. Big names help organise
the creative aspects of the event, bringing their talents to life on the stage in an almost dreamlike ambience to the delight of spectators.
For the 2014 edition, H.R.H the Princess of Hanovre, the Foundations president, asked her friend Karl Lagerfeld to work on the inspiration for
the Bal de la Rose and create the theme for this year.
Together, they decided to create a “Russian” ball, drawing inspiration from the constructivism era while paying tribute to Kazimir Malevitch –
Russian painter and theoretician, the main driving force behind the movement.
‘Constructivism’ is an artistic, architectural and spiritual movement that emerged in Russia in the early 20th century (1917-1921). It
revolutionized the art world, proclaiming minimal abstraction but also geometrical space construction of mainly using coloured elements such
as the circle, rectangle and straight line.
Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by this movement and decided to use it as a theme and transform the Salle des Etoiles and stage décor by playing
on over-dimentionalism, using geometric figures and flat colour areas. The ceiling will be a place where a large luminous construction
incorporates elements of constructivism - rectangles, circles and straight lines while the lobby will be decorated with screens containing
drawing sampled from the invitation also designed by Karl Lagerfeld.
To finalize the tribute to Malevich, dinner tables will be created especially for this occasion: tablecloths and napkin-scarves made of
unbleached, light cotton and printed with coloured geometric patterns and multi-coloured bouqets of roses and flowers that will be arranged in
geometric vases.
This is not the first year Karl Lagerfeld has been asked to design and create the theme for the Rose Ball.
In March 2013, the year of the 150th anniversary celebration of the Monte-Carlo SBM Group, the event was renamed Rose Ball on The Rock
for the occasion. Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld‘s artistic talent, the Salle des Etoiles was transformed into a “Belle et Pop” ballroom.
A radiant spectacle in a fabulous decor, the Rose Ball with unique and different themes each year attracts big artists and new trends. Big
names help organize the creative aspects of the event, bringing their talents to life on the stage in an almost dreamlike ambience to the delight
of spectators.
