Company reveals successful installation of large capacity
foodservice disposer model SS-300 in Chinese ice breaking research vessel MV

With the entry of 2014, InSinkErator,
the world's largest manufacturer of food waste disposers and instant hot water
dispensers for home and commercial use, has expressed plans to reinforce its market
presence across the region’s rapidly growing maritime industry. The company is
looking towards achieving this objective by leveraging its diverse portfolio of
food waste disposers across various types of shipping vessels—ranging from
cargo vessels to luxury cruise ships. In line with this, InSinkErator has
revealed the successful installation of its large capacity foodservice disposer
model, SS-300, on board the MV Xuě Lóng, a Chinese ice breaking research
vessel. The newly installed SS-300 is expected to help the MV Xuě Lóng comply
with recent guidelines on proper food waste disposal released by Stiftelsen Det
Norske Veritas (DNV), a Norwegian classification society organized as a
foundation with the objective of 'Safeguarding life, property, and the
environment.'
The recent DNV guideline stipulates
that all discharges of waste into the sea are highly prohibited—including
cooking oil and all plastics, even in the form of incinerator ash. To help
ensure compliance, the SS-300 facilitates the processing and disposal of all
food wastes to improve ship hygiene and cleanness in line with the vessel’s environmental
responsibility. The unit, which is mounted on a ¾” rubber mounting, offers a
corrosion resistant stainless steel grind chamber that is powered by a three
horse powered induction motor. The SS-300 features stationary and rotating
shredding elements made from cast nickel chrome alloy for long life and
corrosion resistance and also designed for reverse action grinding. A triple
lip seal protects motor from water damage while a secondary spring-loaded oil
seal provides double protection against water and loss of grease. The unit is
stainless steel and chrome plated and has been kept paint-free for lasting
sanitation.
According to InSinkErator senior
executives, the company has now set its sights on servicing the maritime
industry, particularly vessels in the region’s rapidly growing cruise ship
segment. The focus towards the tourism cruise ship industry complements recent
industry reports saying that Dubai’s cruise segment is poised for more growth
in 2014. In fact, the emirate’s cruise segment already plays host to over 94
nationalities from around the globe. Recent industry reports have also shown
that the cruise shipping sector is expected to grow to approximately AED 840
million per year by 2015. Expanding the growth of cruise tourism is one of
the key drivers in attracting 20 million visitors per year to Dubai by 2020.
“As we usher in 2014, InSinkErator is
aiming to consolidate its leadership in the food waste disposal market by
reaching out to various industry verticals. One such vertical that we are
looking to conquer is the Middle East region’s continuously growing maritime
industry,” said Mohamed Karam, Business Development Manager for MEA,
InSinkErator. “Our goal is to leverage our wide portfolio of food waste
disposal units, which range from half horse powered engines to ten hose powered
engines, across different kinds of vessels. In fact, we have just recently
installed our large capacity foodservice disposer model, the SS-300, on board the
research vessel MV Xuě Lóng. Our wide range of food waste disposal units have
been designed to help vessels like the MV Xuě Lóng comply with set
international standards on waste disposal while at the same time leave less of
an environmental footprint.”
The MV Xuě Lóng was built in 1993 at
the Kherson Shipyard in Ukraine and was later converted from an Arctic cargo
ship to a polar research and re-supply vessel in 1994. The ship has a crew of
34 and can accommodate 128 researchers or passengers.

كشفت "InSinkErator"، أكبر شركة مصنعة ومبتكرة لوحدات التخلص من مخلفات الطعام
وأجهزة توزيع المياه الساخنة الفورية للإستخدامات المنزلية والتجارية في العالم، عن
عزمها على معالجة المشاكل البيئية الناتجة عن مخلفات الطعام وذلك عبر ادخال نظام
وحدات التخلص من مخلفات الطعام الى قطاع الملاحة البحرية المتنامي في الشرق الاوسط
وتعزيز حضورها ضمن هذا القطاع. وقد بدأت InSinkErator بتثبيت وحداتها في انواع مخنلفة من المراكب، من بواخر الشحن الى
اليخوت الفارهة، ومنها كاسحة الجليد MV Xuě Lóng، السفينة الصينية المعنية بعمليات البحث والاستقصاء،
التي وضعت فيها وحدة SS-300 للتخلص من مخلفات الطعام والتي ستساعد
السفينة الصينية بالارتقاء الى معايير التخلص المجدي لمخلفات الطعام الخاصة
بالمراكب البحرية التي وضعتها منظمة "ديت نورسك فيريتاس" (DNV) النرويجية المعنية بحماية الحياة والممتلكات والبيئة.
وقد منعت القوانين الموضوعة من قبل منظمة
"ديت نورسك فيريتاس" Det
Norske Veritas (DNV) القيمين
على المراكب البحرية من رمي مخلفات الطعام في البحر بما في ذلك الزيت المخصص للقلي
وكافة أنواع البلاستيك حتى بعد احراقه. وتماشياً مع ذلك، تقوم وحدة SS-300 بمهام التخلص من بقايا الأطعمة للحفاظ على الصحة العامة ونظافة السفينة،
وتتميز الوحدة برأس مطاطي يبلغ ¾ بوصة عازل للصوت والارتجاج إضافة الى الجرن
المخصص للطحن والمصنوع من مادة الستاينلس ستيل المقاومة للصدأ والذي يعمل بقوة
محرك ثلاثة أحصنة، أما بالنسبة الى شفرات الطحن والتقطيع التي تقوم بحركة الدوران
المعاكس، فهي مؤلفة من خليط النيكل والكروم المقاوم ايضاً للصدأ لضمان الجودة
والنوعية للمنتج. ويقوم بحماية المحرك من المياه غلاف ثلاثي الطبقات اضافة الى
غلاف لولبي مخصص للزيت لحماية ثنائية من المياه ونقص الشحم. كما انه لم يتم طلاء
المنتج الاّ بالستاينلس ستيل والكروم حفاظاً على معايير الجودة والنوعية.
وتعتزم InSinkErator مساعدة قطاع اليخوت الفارهة في المنطقة والذي يحظى
بنسبة نمو عالية ضمن قطاع الملاحة البحرية عموماً. ويأتي التركيز على قطاع سياحة
اليخوت الفارهة تناسباً مع التوقعات الايجابية باستمرار نمو وازدهار سياحة اليخوت
في العام 2014 حيث تجذب اكثر من 94 جنسية مختلفة. وأشارت تقارير الصناعة بأن قطاع
الشحن البحري سينمو ليصل حوالي 840 مليون درهم عام 2015.
وإن توسّع قطاع السياحة البحرية في دبي يعتبر من إحدى العوامل الرئيسية لإستقطاب
ما يقارب 20 مليون سائح سنوياً مع حلول العام 2020.

الطعام بهدف مساعدة السفن مثل MV Xuě Lóng على الامتثال للمعايير الدولية المتعلقة بالتخلص من
النفايات وفي نفس الوقت المساهمة في تقليل البصمة البيئية".
وتم بناء السفينة MV Xuě Lóng في العام 1993 في حوض كيرسون
لبناء السفن في أوكرانيا، ومن ثم تم تحويلها لاحقاً من سفينة شحن للقطب الشمالي
إلى سفينة بحوث وإعادة تموين قطبية في العام 1994. وتضم السفينة طاقماً مؤلفاً من
34 شخصاً ويمكن أن تستوعب 128 من الركاب أو الباحثين.
