Scout Movement veterans
share thoughts on how youths can be empowered to make a difference in society

ALHOSN
University’s Architectural Engineering Department and Faculty of Arts and
Social Sciences recently organized a workshop on the culture and practices of
scouting. Three prominent figures of the local Scout Movement shared their
views, expertise and experiences on how scouting can promote individual growth
while fostering a strong commitment to serving the family, the community, the
country, and the world at large.
The distinguished
guest speakers – Fourth Generation Center Director Yahia Zayed, Eng. Zainab
Humaid Mubarak, Director of Projects and Development at Khalifa University and
a Board Member at Fourth Generation, and Ms. Yusr Zayed, a Girl Scout’s leader
and coordinator at Fourth Generation. Mr. Yahia Zayed is a Scout’s Leader with
over 30 years of experience in local and international scouting events, while
Eng. Mubarak is a Girl Scout’s Leader who has represented the UAE in several
regional and international scouting jamborees. Ms. Yusr Zayed is another Girl
Scouts Leader who has helped organize various scouting activities in the UAE
and abroad.
The trio
explained how scouting can enhance the physical, mental and social skills of
members. They emphasized that scouting is not just a series of outdoor
activities but more importantly upholds a progressive code of ethics that
advocates tolerance, teamwork, and personal development, learning by doing,
environmental responsibility, and community service.
Dr.
Kashef, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and Chair
of ALHOSN University’s Architectural Engineering Department, said: “Scouting plants
the seeds of trustworthiness, honor, camaraderie, social responsibility,
initiative, readiness, leadership, and collaboration within its members. More
than a movement, it is a way of life that teaches individuals to harness their
full potential while positively impacting the people and the world around them.
ALHOSN
University will definitely continue to support this important platform for
molding the nation’s future leaders.”
After the workshop, the
speakers received a crystal logo of ALHOSN presented by Prof. Munther Momany, Vice
Chancellor and CEO of ALHOSN University, Dr. Kashef, and Dr. Mohamed Saeed
Hasab Al Naby, the University’s Dean of Arts and Social Sciences. The
university officials also thanked the guests for encouraging ALHOSN students to
enlist in Abu Dhabi’s first Girl Scout Troop. The girls will undergo extensive training
in preparation for potential active participation in future local, regional and
international scouting events.
Abu Dhabi–based ALHOSN University was opened in
2005 to students of all nationalities in response to growing local demand for
high-quality, value-based education. The University scurrently offers 18
undergraduate and 11 graduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and
Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. Similar to the Scout
Movement, ALHOSN’s holistic approach to lifelong learning emphasizes both
individual development and community service.

قام قسم الهندسة المعمارية وكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية في جامعة الحصن
مؤخراً بتنظيم ورشة عمل حول ثقافة وممارسات النشاط الكشفي. وقدم ثلاثة من أبرز
شخصيات الحركة الكشفية المحلية آراءهم وخبراتهم وتجاربهم حول كيفية إسهام النشاط
الكشفي في تعزيز نمو الفرد والتشجيع على وجود التزام قوي تجاه خدمة الأسرة
والمجتمع والدولة والعالم ككل.
وضمت قائمة المتحدثين الضيوف كل من يحيى زايد، مدير مركز الجيل الرابع؛
والمهندسة زينب حميد مبارك، مدير المشاريع والتطوير في جامعة خليفة وعضو مجلس
إدارة مركز الجيل الرابع؛ والآنسة يسر زايد، القائدة الكشفية والمنسقة في مركز
الجيل الرابع. ويعد يحيى زايد قائداً كشفياً يمتلك خبرة تزيد على 30 عاماً في
الأنشطة الكشفية المحلية والدولية، فيما تعتبر المهندسة زينب قائدة كشفية مثلت
دولة الإمارات في العديد من المهرجانات الكشفية الإقليمية والدولية. أما الآنسة
يسر زايد فهي قائدة كشفية ساهمت في مختلف الأنشطة الكشفية في دولة الإمارات
والخارج.
وقام المتحدّثون الثلاثة باستعراض قدرة الأنشطة الكشفية على تحسين المهارات
البدنية والذهنية والاجتماعية للأعضاء، حيث أكدوا على أن العمل الكشفي ليس مجرد
سلسلة من النشاطات الخارجية وإنما هو أيضاً مجموعة من القوانين الأخلاقية التي
تدعو إلى التسامح والعمل الجماعي والتطور الشخصي والتعلم عن طريق العمل والمسؤولية
الاجتماعية وخدمة المجتمع.
وقال الدكتور كاشف، عميد البحوث والدراسات العليا ورئيس قسم الهندسة المعمارية في جامعة الحصن: "تغرس
الحركة الكشفية قيم الثقة والشرف والصداقة والمسؤولية الاجتماعية وروح المبادرة
والجاهزية والقيادة والتعاون في نفوس أعضائها. كما أنها تعتبر أكثر من مجرد حركة،
حيث إنها طريقة حياة تعلم الأفراد كيفية الاستفادة من كامل إمكاناتهم والتأثير
الإيجابي على الناس والعالم من حولهم. وسنواصل في جامعة الحصن دعمنا لهذا المنبر
الهام لإعداد قادة المستقبل".
وبعد ورشة العمل، قام الاستاذ الدكتور منذر مومني، مدير جامعة الحصن؛
والدكتور كاشف؛ والدكتور محمد سعيد حسب النبي، عميد كلية الآداب والعلوم
الاجتماعية، بمنح المتحدثين شعار جامعة الحصن الكريستالي. كما شكر مسؤولو الجامعة
الضيوف لتشجيعهم طلبة الجامعة على التسجيل في أول فرقة كشافة للفتيات في أبوظبي. وستخضع
الفتيات إلى تدريب مكثف تحضيراً للمشاركة الفعالة المحتملة في الأنشطة الكشفية
المحلية والإقليمية والدولية في المستقبل.
وافتتحت جامعة الحصن خلال العام 2005 وذلك استجابة لتزايد الطلب المحلي على
مؤسسات التعليم عالية الجودة، حيث تستقبل الطلبة من جميع الجنسيات. وتوفر الجامعة
حالياً 18 برنامجاً خاصاً بدرجة البكالوريوس و11 برنامج خاص بالدراسات العليا ضمن
كلية الهندسة والعلوم التطبيقية وكلية الأعمال وكلية الآداب والعلوم الاجتماعية. وتماماً
كالحركة الكشفية، فإن نهج الشمولية لجامعة الحصن في التعلم مدى الحياة يشدد على
التطور الشخصي وخدمة المجتمع.
