Cisco and Princess Sumaya University for Technology Joins Forces to Mark 15th Anniversary of the Cisco Networking Academy Program and Host ‘Arabian Adventure Roadshow for Levant’ for MENA Academy Community
BEIRUT, Lebanon – 7 July 2013: Cisco joined forces with Jordan’s Princess Sumaya University for Technology to host the annual ‘Arabian Adventure Roadshow’ for the Levant region. Princess Sumaya University for Technology, the only private and non-profit university in Jordan, welcomes students who wish to pursue studies in a wide variety of academic and vocational fields. The strategic partnership between the two entities will help to boost academies in the region at the higher education level.
This year’s event gathered together almost a hundred representatives from the Cisco® Networking Academy® community from Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq. In addition representatives from the Ministry of ICT in Jordan, UN Women, All Jordan Youth Commission, Knowledge Stations Initiative and Jubilee School also were in attendance to mark the 15th anniversary of the Networking Academy Program. Delegates were provided with the opportunity to learn what networking academies are doing to promote regional networking, create sustainable academy communities, collaborate and drive the Information Communications Technology (ICT) education forward in this important region.
The main event incorporated program updates on the new curricula, including technical, administrative and training updates; re-training sessions for instructors; guidance to academies in effectively managing their business; public speaking and presentation training and exposure to future trends in networking offerings.
The Cisco Networking Academy program teaches more than a million students globally from every socioeconomic background the skills needed to design, build, manage, and secure computer networks—improving their career prospects while catering for the global demand for networking professionals. Today, there are 10,000 academies in 165 countries and the Networking Academy embraces the latest advances in technology to create a rich learning environment and has set a standard for using technology in ICT education.

The ‘Arabian Adventure Roadshow’ is an investment that pays long-term dividends by offering the knowledge and skills that the Networking Academy community as well as partners throughout the region need to make a powerful difference in their workplace and industry. - The Networking Academy program in MENA has witnessed the highest growth among all regions of the Cisco Networking Academy program for the past two years. Today, there are 684 networking academies and 65,785 students (over the past 12 months) in Cisco’s 19-country MENA region (which includes Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine). The MENA region also has the highest percentage of female Networking Academy students: 32 percent, compared to 19 percent globally. In Jordan today, for example, there are 19 academies with 50 instructors and a total of 1,209 enrolled students of whom 41% are female. A total of 9,308 students (of whom 31% are women), have participated in the academy program since it started in Jordan.
- The Networking Academy program provides ICT skills to students globally to improve their career and economic opportunities. It operates in high schools, colleges, universities, technical and military schools, community-based organisations, and government bodies. Its curriculum combines the theory and practice of designing, developing and implementing the networks that underpin businesses and other organisations. In addition, its advanced technology curricula in areas such as security, wireless and Internet Protocol (IP) telephony provide exposure to the latest technology skills in those fields. It also has a module teaching computer technician skills.

بيروت، لبنان - 7 تموز 2013: أعلنت شركة سيسكو عن تعاونها مع جامعة الأميرة سمية للتكنولوجيا لاستضافة معرض Arabian Adventure المتنقل السنوي لمنطقة بلاد الشام. وترحب جامعة الأميرة سمية للتكنولوجيا، الجامعة الخاصة غير الربحية الوحيدة في الأردن، بالطلاب الراغبين بمتابعة دراساتهم في مختلف المجالات الأكاديمية والمهنية. وستعمل هذه الشراكة الاستراتيجية بين هذه الجامعة وسيسكو على دعم الأكاديميات المنتشرة في المنطقة على مستوى التعليم العالي.

- شهد برنامج أكاديمية سيسكو للشبكات في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا أعلى معدل نمو بين كافة المناطق التي ينتشر فيها هذا البرنامج على مدى العامين الماضيين. ويوجد اليوم 684 أكاديمية للشبكات تضمّ 65,785 طالباً (خلال السنة الماضية) تنتشر في 19 بلداً بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا (التي تشمل الأردن ولبنان وفلسطين). كما تتميز أكاديميات الشبكات بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا باحتوائها أعلى نسبة من الطالبات إذ بلغت 32 % بالمقارنة مع 19 % على المستوى العالمي. فعلى سبيل المثال، يوجد في الأردن اليوم 19 أكاديمية تضم 50 مدرساً وما مجموعه 1,209 طالب مسجل منهم 41 % من الإناث. ومنذ بدايته في الأردن، شهد برنامج الأكاديمية مشاركة 9,308 طلاب (31 % منهم من الإناث).
- يوفر برنامج أكاديمية الشبكات مهارات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات للطلاب حول العالم لتعزيز فرصهم الوظيفية والاقتصادية. ويعمل هذا البرنامج في المدارس الثانوية، والكليات، والجامعات، والمدارس التقنية والعسكرية، والمنظمات المجتمعية، والهيئات الحكومية. وتجمع مناهج البرنامج بين تصميم وتطوير وتطبيق الشبكات نظرياً وعملياً، والتي تعزز أعمال الشركات وغيرها من المنظمات. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإن مناهج التكنولوجيا المتطور في مجالات مثل أنظمة الحماية، والشبكات اللاسلكية، والاتصالات الهاتفية عبر بروتوكول الإنترنت، توفر تعرضاً لأحدث مهارات التكنولوجيا في تلك المجالات. كما يشتمل البرنامج على وحدة تدرس مهارات الكمبيوتر الفنية.
