Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Sudan held its First Conference on Business Performance last month, organized by Al-Magzoub Centre for Economic and Financial Advisory, in collaboration with Federalism Centre for Research and Capacity Building. The breakthrough inaugural conference was addressed by the Republic’s President, Field Marshal Omer Al Bashir, and discussed issues including the state's policies for attracting investment, the World Bank criteria and indicators for facilitating business activities, the role of government for enhancing indicators and the funding of investment.
The first-of-its-kind in the Republic, the initiative marks a significant step in removing the obstacles facing investment in Sudan and presents increased business opportunities for investors from the greater GCC region. During the two-day conference, President Al-Bashir directed the investment organs in the states to provide information and statistics for the National Investment Organ so as to be available for internal and external investors, as well as calling for the Conference on Business Performance to be held annually in Sudan with participation of all concerned parties and investors.
The initiative to support and enable business investment is also gaining support from the hospitality sector, with Corinthia Hotel Khartoum, the country’s leading five-star property – which also hosted a delegation from the First Conference on Business - proudly hosting the first ever Wedding Exhibition in Khartoum in June. Bringing together 2000 visitors over a four-day forum, the event presented investment opportunities for GCC investors in the wedding and events industry.
Nicholas Borg, General Manager of Corinthia Hotel Khartoum, said “We are thrilled to have hosted the first ever Wedding Exhibition in Khartoum and, moreover, operating in line with the objectives of the First Conference on Business Performance, we are proud to host and support initiatives that promote business investment. With these promising steps being taken to encourage greater investment in Sudan, we look forward to supporting this aim with similar initiatives in the future.”
